Baseball
Attleboro, 3 @ Taunton, 2 – Final – Taunton scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning but Attleboro chipped away with single runs in the third and fourth innings and then scored the winning run in the top of the fifth. Dakota Kirby had a leadoff single in the third and scored when Jon Candiales drew a bases-loaded walk. In the fourth, Troy Gamache led off with a single and scored to tie the game on an RBI double from James Weir. The Bombardiers took the lead in the fifth when Corey McKenna had a two-out single, stole second, and scored on an RBI single from Gamache. Ryan Morry earned the win, allowing two first-inning runs in a complete game effort. Morry allowed six hits — four in the first inning — before settling down, striking out three and walking one.

North Attleboro, 13 @ Foxboro, 3 – Final – North Attleboro’s Nate Pearce launched a grand slam in the second inning, highlighting the Rocketeers’ sixth run frame in a win over Foxboro. North scored two runs in the first inning and tacked on five more in the third inning. Nick Sinacola improved to 7-0 on the season, allowing one run on two hits and one walk, striking out six in four innings of work. Matt Seavey earned the save, striking out five in three innings of work. Brendan McHugh went 3-for-3 and Zach DeMattio was 2-for-2 with five RBI.

Stoughton, 9 @ Canton, 5 – Final – Stoughton got off to a great start, pushing across six runs in the first inning and never looked back. The Black Knights added three more in the second inning to build a large lead. Evan Gibb got the win on the mound, going 6.2 innings with three earned runs allowed on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Gibb, Ruben Gonzalez, and George Currier each had two hits. James Genest added a two-run single, Robbie Seaman had a double with two walks, and Mike Nazzaro had two RBI and two stolen bases. Jack Brown got his first varsity hit and Tim Kellogg played stellar defense in the field for the Black Knights.

King Philip, 2 @ Franklin, 5 – Final – Franklin senior Jake Noviello scattered five hits, struck out five, allowed two runs and didn’t issue a walk in a complete game effort to lead the Panthers to a win. Steve Luttazi (two doubles, RBI, run) and Jack Nally (RBI, run) each had two hits for the Panthers while Alex Haba (triple, run), Jake Macchi (RBI), and Colby Fitzgibbons (double) each had a hit. Pat Limerick (RBI, run), Jeremy Rhines (RBI), and Ian Zimmerman each had a hit for KP.

Oliver Ames, 0 @ Mansfield, 1 – Final (8 inn.)

Softball
Taunton, 21 @ Attleboro, 6 – Final (6 inn.) – Taunton held a one-run lead after five innings but exploded in the sixth for 15 runs to get the win. Kya Enos had four hits, including a double, with five RBI and four runs, Hanna Aldrich (double, home run, six RBI) and Mackenzie Handrahan (two runs) each had three hits, and Liana Duarte went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Jaylin Couto got the win with four strikeouts and three runs allowed in 3.2 innings of work. Kelsey White came on in relief and struck out five with two runs allowed in 2.1 innings of work.

Canton, 0 @ Stoughton, 7 – Final – Gina Carafa was 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored, Karly Estremera and Nikki Coppola each had two hits, and Taylor Levine contributed with a hit and two RBI. Carafa picked up her sixth win of the season, striking out five and allowing only four hits.

Foxboro, 3 @ North Attleboro, 16 – Final – Bella Erti struck out sixth, recording her 100th of the season and went 3-for-4 with a double at the plate to pace the Rocketeers to a win over Foxboro. Olivia Capobianco was 3-for-3, including a leadoff home run and had four RBI, Annabelle Hebard added three hits and two runs, and Jaclyn Buckley had two hits and four RBI. Emily Nardelli and Stephanie Inglese both added two hits while Emily Pastore and Katherine Munley had one hit apiece and a run scored.

Franklin, 0 @ King Philip, 9 – Final – Brooke Taute set the tone early with a first-inning grand slam to help the Warriors sweep the season series against Franklin. Sydney Phillips, Jessica Bonner (two-run home run) and Brianna Lacy each had two hits. Elise Pereira pitched a complete game shutout, giving up only three hits while striking out five.

Foxboro, 7 @ Xaverian, 17 – Final

Franklin, 17 vs. Dover-Sherborn, 7 – Final – Franklin’s offense had another strong game, picking up a win over D3 powerhouse Dover-Sherborn. Eric Civetti was responsible for 10 of those goals, scoring seven and assisting on three more. Jake Davis (three goals, one assist), and Matt Lazzaro (two goals, two assists) each had four points while Nitin Chaudhury and three assists. Jacob Alexander dominated the face-off X, winning 24 of 28 attempts. Connor O’Rourke made nine saves while Will Davis came in and made two stops.

Mansfield, 11 @ Stoughton, 2 – Final

North Attleboro, 8 @ Scituate, 7 – Final

Oliver Ames, 17 @ Southeastern, 4 – Final – Oliver Ames recorded its 12th win of the season, setting a new program mark for regular season wins. The Tigers had 11 different goal scorers in the win with Owen Gallagher leading the way with three goals and three assists.

Canton, 7 @ Holliston, 15 – Final – Leah McClellan scored three goals and assisted on three others for the Bulldogs in the loss. Maggie Connolly had a goal and an assist, while Caroline Tourgee, Molly Colburn and Rachel Beatty had one goal apiece. Vicki Revanche made 21 saves in defeat.

Foxboro, 13 @ Wellesley, 14 – Final

King Philip, 15 vs. Bishop Feehan, 4 – Final – Caroline Klim continued her all-star season with six goals to lead KP to a big win over a potential playoff opponent. Alli Meehan added four goals and an assist and Olivia Tormey had two goals and an assist for the Warriors. KP also got goals from Shayla Weitzman, Jess Sullivan, and Mackenzie Mazur.

North Attleboro, 4 vs. Natick, 18 – Final – Julia Tolfa scored two goals for North but the Rocketeers fell at home to Natick.

Sharon, 13 @ Ursuline Academy, 12 – Final – For the second time this season, the Eagles rallied from four goals down at halftime to beat Ursuline. Sharon went on an 8-3 run in the second half and won the game on Sabrina Robbins’ fourth goal of the afternoon with just one second remaining. Emma Eberhardt scored five goals to lead the Eagles, adding the 100th of her career in the process. She also had two assists. Rose Wald made nine saves, including six in the second half. Maeve Barbera scored a pair of goals and Cass Barbera and Lydia Chase each had one.

Boys Tennis
Taunton, 5 @ Attleboro, 0 – Final

Canton, 3 @ Stoughton, 2 – Final – Stoughton won at first and second singles but the Bulldogs got the win at third singles and swept doubles play to beat the Black Knights. Freshman Minh Duong won 7-5, 6-2 at third singles, the team of Charlie Malloy and Aidas Jakubenas earned a 7-6, 6-3 win at first doubles and Ethan Nguyen and Justin Luk picked up a 6-1, 7-6 (4) win at second doubles. Stoughton freshman Waseem Sablon won 6-1, 6-2 at first singles and junior Erik Anderson earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at second singles.

Foxboro, 0 @ North Attleboro, 5 – Final – North Attleboro’s three singles players combined to lose just a single game in a convincing sweep over Foxboro. Richard Bermudez won 6-1, 6-0 at first singles while Christian Bermudez and Jonah Manso each won 6-0, 6-0 at second and third singles, respectively. Ben Pfeffer and Vikram Senthilakumaran pulled out a 6-3, 6-2 win at first doubles and senior Alex Rinaldi and freshman Sam Gallagher notched their fourth straight win, 6-3, 6-2, at second doubles.

Franklin, 0 @ King Philip, 5 – Final – King Philip clinched its second straight Kelley-Rex title with a sweep over Franklin. Marco DiStefano earned a 6-1, 6-4 win at first singles, Nick Putney prevailed 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 at second singles and Jack Cannon won 6-1, 6-4 at third singles. The team of Sean Desroches and Nate Ihley emerged with a 7-5, 3-6, 10-5 at first doubles and Nick Ihley and Aidan Ignatius teamed up for a 6-1, 6-0 victory at second doubles.

Oliver Ames, 0 @ Mansfield, 5 – Final

Sharon, 5 @ Martha’s Vineyard, 0 – Final – Sharon swept the first of two matches with Martha’s Vineyard, winning all five matches with proset rules. Fred Bondar won 8-2 at first singles, Andre Olivei earned an 8-6 win at second singles and Danujan Thirumavalavan won 8-5 at third singles. The team of Max Brody and Ashwin Sreevatsa picked up an 8-5 win at first doubles and Arie Chinnappan and Alex Asprevailedaled 8-5 at second doubles.

Sharon, 3 @ Martha’s Vineyard, 2 – Final – Sharon earned its second win on the day with a 3-2 proset win. Fred Bondar won 8-3 at first singles, Danujan Thirumavalavan earned an 8-7 (7-1) win at third singles, and Arie Chinnappan and Alex Aspel recorded an 8-2 win at second doubles.

Girls Tennis
Attleboro, 0 @ Taunton, 5 – Final – Taunton earned its second win of the season over the Bombardiers, this time taking all five matches and doing so in straight sets. Junior Jillian Pagliuca won 6-2, 6-2 at first singles, senior Vanessa Rosa picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at second singles, and freshman Jocelyn Pagliuca walked away with a 6-0, 6-0 decision at third singles. Juniors McKenzie Lucie and Samantha Martin won 6-0, 6-3 at first doubles and seniors Amanda Pugh and Gabrielle Fagundes earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at second doubles for the Tigers.

Stoughton, 0 @ Canton, 5 – Final – Canton freshmen Natalie Keppler and Rachel Kupferman had strong performances on the day with neither losing a game in their respective matches. Keppler (first singles) and Kupferman (second) each won 6-0, 6-0 while sophomore Sarah Hernandez picked up a 6-0, 6-4 win at third singles. Senior Caitlin Matthews and sophomore Stelina Michaelidis won 6-1, 7-6 (6) at first singles and the team of seniors Jenna Moyle and Anjali Mandal earned a 6-1, 6-4 win at second doubles for the Bulldogs.

Mansfield, 2 @ Oliver Ames, 3 – Final – Oliver Ames swept doubles play and earned a win at third singles to edge Mansfield. Kristin Bloumbas and Emily You prevailed 7-6 (5), 6-0 at first doubles, Olivia Groebe and Rachel Stryke picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win at second doubles, and sophomore Maura Kiernan dropped just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win at third singles. Mansfield’s Sarah Doyle recorded a 6-1, 6-2 win at first singles while Elizabeth Elsner emerged victoriously, 6-4, 7-5, at second singles.

Oliver Ames, 3 @ Attleboro, 0 – Final – Oliver Ames scored two runs in the second, added another in the third and stranded 13 Attleboro base runners to earn a win on the road. CJ Deveau had a two-RBI hit in the second inning to give Oliver Ames the lead while Chris Pearsons (double), Jake Erlich, and Matt Muir each scored for the Tigers. Tom Parker earned the with five scoreless innings of work while Muir got the save, striking out two in the seventh. Ryan Morry allowed five hits and two walks, striking out three in a complete game effort for the Bombardiers.

Sharon, 1 @ Canton, 2 – Final – Sharon tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the seventh but Canton came back with the game-winning run in the bottom half, walking off with a win over the Eagles. Mike Konzal led off the bottom of the seventh with a double and scored on a base hit down the first base line from Nate Quan for the win. The Dogs took the lead in the fourth off when Matt Casamento (double) scored on a passed ball. Sharon’s Ben Stamm singled in the top of the seventh to tie it. Robbie Wilkinson tossed a complete game for Canton, striking out six and walking four with just three hits allowed. Sharon’s Max Tarlin also threw a complete game, striking out six with three walks and seven hits allowed.

Foxboro, 7 @ Milford, 1 – Final – Foxboro senior Devin Hassett allowed just one hit in 3.2 innings of work and sophomore Anthony Mollica didn’t allow any hits in 3.1 innings of relief to lead the Warriors to a win on the road. Milford took a 1-0 lead (Aidan Wilde three walks, run) into the sixth inning but Foxboro exploded for seven runs in the frame to take the lead. Joe Freitas (1-for-3) had two RBI while Joe Cavaleri and JT Burke each had two hits and an RBI in the win. Matt Rongione and Hassett each added a hit and an RBI for the Warriors.

Taunton, 11 @ King Philip, 1 – Final – Taunton’s offense had its best showing of the season, scoring two runs in each the third, fourth, fifth innings and then putting the game out of reach with a five-run sixth inning. Jacob Crawford led the Tigers with three hits while Jack Moynihan (two RBI), Jakob Roberts, and Tyler Medeiros each had two hits. Tyler Pietrzyk had a team-high three RBI for the Tigers. Moynihan tossed five scoreless innings for the win, striking out three.

Stoughton, 1 @ North Attleboro, 2 – Final – North Attleboro rallied with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to earn a walk off win over visiting Stoughton. Brendan McHugh got things going with a two-out single and then stole second to get into scoring position. Nick Raneri delivered the big hit with a single to right center to bring McHugh (1-for-2, walk, two stolen bases) home for the win. North took the lead in the fifth inning when Nick Sinacola had a one-out single, pinch-runner Jackson Billingkoff moved to third on a single from Zach DeMattio, and Billingkoff scored on a squeeze dropped by McHugh. Stoughton kept the game alive with a run in the top of the seventh behind a leadoff single from Zak Paquette. Pinch runner Jack Brown stole second and took third on an infield hit from Ruben Gonzalez. Brown then scored on a sacrifice fly from Evan Gibb. Stoughton had Gonzalez in scoring position with just one out but Nick Sinacola (CG, 8 H, 1 BB, 8 K) got two strikeouts to keep the game level. Nate Pearce added two doubles and a walk in the win for North.

Softball
Attleboro, 4 @ Oliver Ames, 2 – Final – Oliver Ames freshman Emma Varella struck out four in a complete game effort but the Tigers fell just short against Attleboro. Katie Abreu was 2-for-3 with two doubles and a run scored. Abbi Holmes had an RBI and Lexie Campbell scored the other run for the Tigers.

Canton, 11 @ Sharon, 4 – Final – Canton sophomore Caroline Hughes went 4-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles and three RBI while freshman Liz Bickett also was 4-for-4 with a double and two RBI to lead the Bulldogs to a big win on the road. Hughes also pitched four scoreless innings to earn the win. Sarah Kelly added a double, Torie Anglin chipped in with a triple, and Ally Chin had a pair of singles for the Bulldogs.

Milford, 19 @ Foxboro, 6 – Final – Milford’s offense exploded for 22 hits, earning a big win on the road at Foxboro. Shannon Cormier (double, two runs, two RBI), Sabrina Haarstick (RBI), and Maddie Bonvino (double, two RBI) each had three hits to lead the Hawks’ offense. Emily Hartman (four RBI, two doubles), Jess Tomaso (three runs, RBI), and Emily Piergustavo (triple, three runs, RBI) added two hits apiece. Kelley Reichert struck out three while allowing three hits in four innings pitched.

Mansfield, 1 @ Franklin, 9 – Final – Franklin’s offense continued to roll, plating nine runs to sweep the season series against Mansfield. Franklin scored runs in all but two innings, plating three in each the second and fourth innings. Jackie Cherry tossed a one-hitter, striking out nine to earn the win in the circle. Maddy White (two doubles, run, three RBI) had three hits for the Panthers while Gabby Colace (two runs, RBI), Anna Balkus (three runs, three stolen bases, two RBI) and Meg Caron chipped in with two hits apiece. Megan Letendre had the lone hit of the game for the Hornets, doubling in the fourth inning to score Kara Bendanillo, who had reached on a walk.

North Attleboro, 8 @ Stoughton, 2 – Final – Andrea Miceli had a two-out single to drive in a run in the fifth and Olivia Capobianco broke the game open with a three-run homer in the sixth inning. Bella Erti picked up the win, striking out five and allowing four hits, and helped her own cause with a pair of hits and an RBI. Abby Gallagher and Katherine Munley each had three hits for the Rocketeers, while Ashley Cangiano (two RBI) and Katy Daby both had two hits. Stoughton’s Karly Estremera was 1-for-3 with a triple, scoring both of the Black Knights’ runs. Jordan Lyons was 2-for-3 at the plate and played an outstanding game at shortstop. Haley Stone, Sarah McGrath, and Taylor Levine each had a single for the Knights.

Oliver Ames, 19 @ Taunton, 0 – Final – Oliver Ames’ Steve Heino registered a shutout in his second career varsity start. The Tigers’ offense was balanced with 11 different goal scorers, led by four from Owen Gallagher and three from Colin Bourne.

Girls Lacrosse
Canton, 14 vs. Brookline, 13 – Final – Vicki Revanche made 21 saves to help Canton earn a one-goal victory on senior night. Canton coach Laurie Chabot said, “We controlled the game with quick transition, great defense and great shots on goal.” Leah McClellan sparked the Bulldogs offensively with four goals and six assists, while Maggie Connolly added two goals and two assists. Senior Molly Colburn chipped in with a hat trick in the win.

Franklin, 8 vs. Walpole, 9 – Final (OT) – Sophomore Gianna Cameron made 15 saves to keep the Panthers in the game, helping send the game against unbeaten Walpole to overtime, but the Rebels netted the winner to prevail with the win. Annie Walsh had three goals and an assist, Erin Walsh scored once and had an assist, and Kate Jones finished with two goals for the Panthers.

Mansfield, 8 @ Sharon, 12 – Final – Rose Wald had a big game for the Eagles, making 15 saves in the win. Sabrina Robbins led the Sharon attack with three goals and an assist, while Emma Eberhardt added two goals and two assists. Lydia Chase and Maeve Barbera each scored twice for the Eagles and Jenna Goldstein, Abbi Solomon, and Cass Barbera each had one goal apiece.

Taunton, 11 @ Oliver Ames, 17 – Final – Taunton freshman Alana Tavares scored six goals, including the 100th of her career in the loss.

Canton, 0 @ Sharon, 5 – Final – Sharon didn’t lose a single game in four of the five matches to earn a convincing win on the road at Canton. Fred Bondar (first singles), Andre Olivei (second), Arie Chinnappan (third), and Max Brody and Russell Rapaport (first doubles) all won 6-0, 6-0. The team of Alex Aspel and Eric Zhang earned Sharon’s fifth point with a 6-3, 6-3 win at second doubles.

Mansfield, 2 @ Franklin, 3 – Final – Franklin picked up two wins in singles play and another in doubles to slip past the Hornets in a close match. Liam Marr picked up a big point with a 6-1, 1-6, 6-1 win at second singles, Saketh Saipalli didn’t lose a game at third singles, and the team of Tony Calderone and Dan Angermeier won 6-3, 6-1 at second doubles. Mansfield’s Luke Nickerson won 6-3, 6-2 at first singles and the team of Jalaj Singh and Sethu Odayappan won 6-7 (6), 6-2, 10-6 at first doubles.

King Philip, 4 @ Taunton, 1 – Final – Taunton’s Francois Hennaux saved six match points at first singles en route to a 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 win but King Philip won the other four matches to get the victory. Nick Putney won 6-3, 6-2 at second singles, Jack Cannon earned a 6-0, 6-3 win at third singles, the team of Nate Ihley and Sean Desroches rallied for a 5-7, 6-1, 6-0 win at first doubles, and Nick Ihley and Aidan Ignatius won 6-2, 6-1 at second doubles for the Warriors.

Oliver Ames, 5 @ Attleboro, 0 – Final – Oliver Ames’ Sarah Barron won a third set tiebreaker and the team of Olivia Groebe and Rachel Stryke rallied back from a one-set deficit to highlight the Tigers’ sweep of Attleboro. Barron won 7-5, 3-5, 10-4 at third singles while Tate Hadges (first singles) won 6-3, 6-4 and Maura Kiernan (second singles) earned a 6-3, 6-2 win. Groebe and Stryke rallied for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 win at first doubles while Emily Yu and Eva Belanger took a 6-2, 7-5 decision at second doubles.

Sharon, 5 @ Canton, 0 – Final – Sharon won all five matches in straight sets to earn a win on the road over Canton. Nupur Shukla won 6-1, 6-2 at first singles, Lulu Yuan earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at second singles, and Emily Win prevailed 6-0, 6-1 at third singles. The team of Rithika Neti and Sophia Fein won 7-5, 6-4 at first doubles and Ellie Romantz and Makaila Cheung picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win at second doubles.

Foxboro, 5 @ Milford, 0 – Final – It was a clean sweep for the road Warriors, winning all five matches in straight sets. Sophia Prinos (first singles) and Pamela Nelson (second singles) each won 6-0, 6-0 while Kayla Prag earned a 6-1, 6-1 decision at third singles. Foxboro’s first doubles team of Sarah Prag and Julia Muise won 6-0, 6-1 while the team of Olivia Dantona and Kendall Milender picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory at second doubles.

Franklin, 1 @ Mansfield, 4 – Final – The Hornets defended home court by winning two singles matches and sweeping doubles play against visiting Franklin. Sarah Doyle picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at first singles and Elizabeth Elsner followed suit with a 6-1, 6-2 win at second singles. The team of Tessa Garufi and Hannah Podolske dropped just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory at first doubles, and Samantha Sternburg and Aryana Khosravani won 7-5, 6-3 at second doubles. Franklin’s Lucia Kehoe won 6-3, 6-2 at third singles.

Taunton, 0 @ King Philip, 5 – Final

Stoughton, 0 @ North Attleboro, 5 – Final – North Attleboro punched its ticket to the state tournament with a sweep of visiting Stoughton. Jordan Willis (first singles) and Emily Chiasson (second) each won 6-0, 6-0 while junior Mae McLoughlin earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at third singles for Big Red. Azka Siddiq and Katie Ovoian won 6-2, 6-0 at first doubles while Shurobhi Nani and Brototi Nandi picked up a 6-0, 6-4 victory at second doubles.

Boys Volleyball
Milford, 3 @ Xaverian, 0 – Final

Taunton, 3 vs. North Quincy, 0 – Final – After beating North Quincy on the road in five sets earlier this season, the undefeated Tigers flexed their muscles on home with a clean sweep (25-22, 25-15, 25-20). Lance Law paced the attack with 14 kills and an ace, Lens Esquil added 10 kills and five blocks, and Collin Hunter chipped in with three kills, three blocks, and three aces.

FRANKLIN, Mass. – Coming off of a 12-6 win over Canton, the Franklin softball team knew it would have to continue its success at the plate to get a win over Stoughton. The Panthers did that as its offense started fast and came away with a 12-2 win over the visiting Black Knights on Wednesday afternoon.

After Emily Valentino (complete game, seven hits, 11 strikeouts) set Stoughton down 1-2-3 in the top of the first, Franklin got right to work in the bottom half of the inning as Tara Hartnett (1-for-1, two walks, two RBI) hit an RBI triple to bring home Anna Balkus (2-for-4, two RBI), who reached on a bunt single earlier in the inning.

After a scoreless top of the second, Franklin got back at it in the bottom half of the inning, sending every batter to the plate as Meg Caron led off the inning with a single, and after a lineout, Gabby Colace singled. A force out at third left Franklin with runners on first and second and two outs, but Balkus singled home Colace to put Franklin up 2-0. Kylie Bouzan followed that up with an RBI single, and following a walk by Hartnett, Jackie Cherry scored two on another RBI single. Maddy White then singled home Hartnett to extend Franklin’s lead to 7-0.

“We did it all [offensively] with two outs, which really makes me happy,” said Franklin coach Kate Fallon-Comeau about Franklin’s offensive output.

In the bottom of the third, Colace reached on an error and was moved over to third after a double by Ally Shea. After a throwing error at first on a Balkus bunt, Colace and Shea both scored to give Franklin a 9-0 lead. They would threaten with runners on second and third but a flyout would end the inning.

In the top of the fourth, Stoughton started to come alive offensively, as Nikki Coppola led off the inning with a single, and after a groundout by Jordan Lyons, Gina Carafa hit a double that one-hopped the right field wall and allowed Coppola to score. Lexi Baptista then drew a walk, and following a single by Taylor Levine, Stoughton had the bases loaded. Another single by Stoughton catcher Bri Ferrandiz scored Carafa and cut the Franklin lead to 9-2. Valentino managed to get the last two outs via the strikeout, and that inning was the only minor hiccup she would have all day.

“She threw a nice game, mixed her locations, mixed her speeds, had a nice game with her command today,” Fallon-Comeau said about Valentino.

In the bottom of the fourth, Franklin hit the run column again, as a sacrifice fly from = Caron scored White after she tripled, and Franklin took a 10-2 lead. In the bottom of the fifth Franklin scored on another sac fly, this time from Hartnett which scored Shea. In the bottom of the sixth, Natalie Stott, pinch-hitting for Cherry, singled home Bouzan to score Franklin’s final run of the game as the walked away with a 12-2 victory.

Franklin (4-4) will look to keep their bats hot against Sharon (0-7) on Thursday afternoon at Sharon High School.

Stoughton (2-6) will look to rebound on Friday afternoon as they host a talented Taunton team (7-2).

Attleboro, 3 @ Taunton, 2 – Final

Stoughton, 3 @ Canton, 2 – Final – Stoughton won games four and five to overcome a 2-1 deficit and grab its 16th win of the season. Senior Val Whalen and sophomore Mykiah Simpson combined for 29 kills while junior Molly Turner got 29 assists and 16 digs for the Black Knights. Senior Taylor Levine played strong in the back row with 17 digs. For Canton, Hannah Jerrier had a great night with 21 kills, hitting .340 and had two blocks. Megan McDonough had 25 digs and four aces and Nicole Brown had another outstanding night with 35 assists and 11 digs for the Bulldogs.

North Attleboro, 3 @ Foxboro, 0 – Final

King Philip, 3 @ Franklin, 1 – Final – King Philip capped its perfect Hockomock League schedule with a 3-1 (25-20, 25-19, 21-25, 25-18) win over Franklin. Sydney Phillips continued her strong season at the net with 23 kills while Michaela Palumbo added 12 kills and 10 service points. Kat Kmetz had 11 service points, including two aces, and three blocks while Julianne Rando finished with eight digs. For Franklin, Meaghan Maguire (five blocks) and Hailey Sanders (two blocks) each chipped in with eight kills and Maggie Doyle (two blocks) had seven kills. Junior Lauren McGrath had 35 assists for the Panthers.

Mansfield, 2 @ Oliver Ames, 3 – Final – Oliver Ames rallied from a 2-1 deficit to win games four and five to earn the win over Mansfield (27-25, 19-25, 21-25, 27-25, 15-11). After an 0-6 start to the season, OA has won 10 of their last 13 games to qualify for the state tournament. Sophomore Allie Kemp led OA with 41 assists and five aces, senior Emma Petrillo had 14 kills and three aces, senior Kayla Raymond finished 11 kills and nine blocks, and junior Sadie Homer had 34 digs. For Mansfield, Julia Harrison had 26 kills and 11 digs, Meg Hill had 25 kills and Emma Ascoli finished with 48 assists and 36 digs.

Rocketeers Rally For Key Division Win Over Stoughton

STOUGHTON, Mass. – Sometimes a loss, especially early on the season, can turn into a valuable learning opportunity.

That was the case for North Attleboro, suffering a 3-2 non-league setback to King Philip last week.

Now Stoughton is hoping the same will come true for them after dropping a 3-2 decision to the visiting Rocketeers on Monday night.

Stoughton took the first game, and then went up 2-1, but North Attleboro responded each time and came away with a 21-25, 25-15, 16-25, 25-23, 15-6 win.

North Attleboro head coach Jeff Crins believes his team’s ability to bounce back is a direct correlation from having been in the same scenario less than a week ago.

“I think having played that game five [against KP] kind of gave them the confidence to go out there and play our game,” Crins said. “When we play our game, when we run our offense, it’s tough to stay with us. The kids just needed to hear it and see it, and it worked out in our favor tonight. Our offense was running on all cylinders in the fifth game.”

For Stoughton head coach Erica Batchelder, she’s hoping her squad – who hadn’t lost more than one set all season – will use this as a lesson.

“I think we can take this loss and learn from it,” Batchelder said. “We haven’t been down yet this season, we had only lost one set coming into today. I think this will definitely help us. The kids weren’t used to be down yet, but now we can learn from this.”

The Black Knights got off to a strong start in the first game. North Attleboro’s Kezia De La Cruz (13 kills, two aces) opened the match with back-to-back kills, but Stoughton then rattled off a 10-1 run to seize a 10-3 lead.

Stoughton kept its offense up, building a 19-8 lead behind a kill from Molly Turner (16 assists, seven kills, five aces) and it looked like the Black Knights would cruise to an opening game win.

But North Attleboro got into a groove behind strong serving from Leah Marceau. A block kill from Anna Caristi capped an 11-4 run for the visitors to cut the deficit at four, 23-19. But Turner was able to finish off a kill to give Stoughton a 25-21 win.

While North Attleboro didn’t come away with the win in the first game, the momentum captured in the comeback attempt carried over into the second game.

“I think it was huge to get back in it,” Crins said. “If we ended that game under double-digits, or losing by double-digits then the next game would have been a completely different outcome. I think we got some confidence. We kind of beat ourselves for the first 20 points so we just needed to play our game. Stoughton played great, they didn’t let anything drop but we just had to go the distance a little bit.”

Holding to a one-point lead early, the Rocketeers rattled off a 10-0 run, highlighted by a pair of kills from Tori Melanson (13 kills, seven blocks) and an ace from Emma Gunn to take a 17-6 lead.

The Rocketeers were able to keep that 10-point cushion the rest of the way, getting kills from Melanson, De La Cruz, Caristi and Katie DeMontigny to take a 25-15 win.

The third game was much tighter throughout. North Attleboro’s Amelia Murphy (18 kills, two aces) cut the Stoughton lead to just two at 15-13. But a quick 4-0 burst, including an ace from sophomore Makiah Simpson – suddenly put the Black Knights up 19-13.

Big Red called a timeout when Stoughton’s lead went to 22-16, but the break didn’t phase the Black Knights, getting the final three points via kills from Val Whalen (12 kills, four blocks), Hanna Holden (11 assists, four kills) and an ace from Turner.

The fourth game started out similar to the first as Stoughton raced out to a 10-3 lead, punctuated by an ace from Taylor Levine. But North Attleboro rallied for a 7-0 run to tie the game. Tied 16-16, Big Red then hit a 5-1 stride to take a 21-17 lead and force a timeout from the Knights. Stoughton rallied to cut the deficit to one (22-21), forcing Crins to take a timeout.

A kill from Whalen brought Stoughton within one (24-23) but an error allowed North Attleboro to take the win and force a fifth set.

“I think when we got them out of their system, we were at an advantage,” Crins said. “They still did a nice job to keep the ball in play and put pressure on us. I have to give it to my setter [Leah Marceau] she played a phenomenal game. She really did a great job keeping the pieces together and feeding the hot hand when we needed to.”

That’s when experience showed. North quickly turned a tie game (3-3) into a 9-4 lead behind a big kill from Murphy, forcing a timeout. Murphy registered another kill on the next play, added two more to extend North’s lead to 13-5. With game point on the line, Marceau set Murphy up and she slammed down her 18th kill for the win.

“That was our motivation, to get into first place,” Crins said. “If we lost, we would have had to play catch up the rest of the season. But if we controlled the match, then we control our destiny. We see them again so we know it will be just as tough but for now, we control our destiny.”

North Attleboro (7-1 overall, 6-0 Hockomock) returns home on Thursday to host Milford. Stoughton (7-1, 5-1) hosts Sharon on Wednesday evening.

Tyler Medeiros and William DaRosa each knocked in three runs to pace the Tigers offense while Medeiros earned the win on the mound. Medeiros pitched six innings, allowing one run on two hits and one walk while fanning nine batters. Chris Gomes added three hits and three runs and Jacob Crawford had two hits and three runs scored for the Tigers.

Canton, 0 @ Stoughton, 7 – Final – Stoughton senior Ryan Sullivan pitched five scoreless innings to earn his third win of the season. Justin Hutchinson went 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple, two runs scored and two RBI. Matt Gallagher and Jack Connelly each pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the Black Knights.

Foxboro, 2 @ North Attleboro, 5 – Final – North Attleboro plated three runs in the third inning and added two more in the fourth inning to beat Foxboro. Junior Zach DeMattio had a big day at the plate, knocking in four runs and scoring the fifth. In the third, Nick Sinacola (infield hit) and Nate Pearce (single) reached before DeMattio brought both home with a double. DeMattio scored the third run when John Brennan drew a bases loaded walk. In the fourth, Sinacola had another single and DeMattio launched a two-run home run. Sinacola earned the win on the mound, striking out five in four innings of work with just two hits allowed. Peter Cohen allowed one run on two hits and two walks in three innings of relief.

Franklin, 5 @ King Philip, 0 – Final – Franklin junior Jake Noviello tossed a complete game shutout, striking out three while scattering five hits and three walks to earn the win. Offensively, Cam Lupien had a team-high three hits and added an RBI while both Tyler Gomes and Alex Haba had two hits and two runs scored. Franklin clinched the Kelley-Rex division title outright with the win.

Stoughton, 10 @ Canton, 5 – Final – Stoughton took a 5-0 lead in the opening innings only to have Canton rally to tie the game in the fourth. The Black Knights regained the lead in the top of the sixth when Alessandra Loffredo beat out an infield single on a two-out grounder that plated Taylor Levine. Karly Estremera went 3-for-4 for Stoughton, scored three runs, and drove in a pair. Brianna Ferrandiz and Jordan Lyons each had two hits and Gina Carafa picked up the win with six strikeouts.

North Attleboro, 11 @ Foxboro, 12 – Final (8 inn.) – North Attleboro’s Meg Barlow (three hits) and Bella Erti (two hits) each had a double and home run but the Rocketeers fell in extra innings. Olivia Capobianco also had three hits and Kristina Murphy and Sam Courtemanche each had two hits for North Attleboro.

Olivia Sweeney won 6-1, 6-0 at first singles, Jordan Pagliuca notched a 6-0, 6-1 victory at second singles and Jillian Pagliuca grabbed a 6-0, 6-0 win at third singles. Taunton’s first doubles team of Ashleigh Eason and Emily Moor won 6-0, 6-0 at first doubles and Caroline Hebert and Jordan Martin secured a 6-1, 6-1 decision at second doubles.

Canton, 4 @ Stoughton, 0 – Final – Canton swept singles play and took one more win in doubles play to beat Stoughton. Milford, 9 @ Attleboro, 5 – Final – Attleboro held a pair of leads, up 4-2 and then again up 5-4 but Milford stormed back to get the win. Kevin Cambrola earned the win in relief for the Scarlet Hawks, shutting down the Bombardiers’ offense. Ryan Goncalves, Alex Macek and Luke Allegrezza each had two hits for Milford while the Hawks capitalized on five Attleboro errors and seven walks.

Canton, 0 @ Taunton, 15 – Final (6 inn.) – Taunton scored five runs in the first inning to set the tone and tacked on runs in all other innings except one to beat Canton. Christian Simoes had an impressive day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with four runs scored and three RBI to pace the Tigers’ offense. Jimmy Hoye was 4-for-4 with two RBI and two run scored, Joe Manchester was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, Billy DaRosa had two hits and two RBI and Matt Machado had two hits and two runs scored. Sophomore Griffin Tomaszycki tossed a six inning shutout in his first career start, allowing six hits while recording six strikeouts.

Foxboro, 2 @ Oliver Ames, 3 – Final (8 inn.) – Oliver Ames rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the games to extra innings and won with an infield hit an inning later. Senior Cam Johnson came through with the tying hit, driving in Mitch Goulet (walk) and Kyle Gagliardi (single) to tie the game. In the bottom of the eighth, Alden Newman led off with a single, moved to second on a hit batter, moved to third on a sacrifice and beat the tag at home on an infield hit from Gagliardi.

Stoughton, 3 @ Franklin, 4 – Final – Franklin sophomore Jake Macchi delivered a double in the bottom of the sixth inning, knocking in classmate Alex Haba for the go-ahead run to break a 3-3 game and give the Panthers the lead. Bryan Woelfel earned the save with a scoreless seventh inning. Junior Jason Ulrickson earned the win following a tremendous outing, striking out 10 while allowing just four hits and two walks. Jake Lyons added a double and a run scored for Franklin. Ruben Gonzalez was 2-for-3 with a walk, run scored an RBI and Evan Gibb had a two-run double to tie the game for Stoughton.

Sharon, 4 @ King Philip, 10 – Final – King Philip’s offense erupted for six runs in the sixth inning to break open a tie game. With the Eagles and Warriors knotted at 4-4, King Philip’s bats came to life to plate the go-ahead run and tacked on five more. Chris Wing tossed a complete game, striking out six with three earned runs allowed. Wing also collected two hits at the plate while Stephen Murray went 3-for-3 and Will Weir went 2-for-2.

North Attleboro, 3 @ Mansfield, 5 – Final – North Attleboro got off to a good start wtih a run in the top of the first inning but Mansfield with three runs in the bottom half and never surrendered the lead. Big Red came back to tie the game in the top of the third, but Mansfield plated what turned out to be the game winning run in the bottom half. The Hornets tacked on an insurance run in the sixth. Kyle Moran (2-for-3, run) doubled in Colin Gibbons (two runs, RBI) for the game-winner. Zack Peterson also went 1-for-3 with two RBI for Mansfield. Nolan Dousa earned the win, striking out eight with three earned runs allowed.

Softball
Attleboro, 0 @ Milford, 12 – Final (5 inn.) – Milford junior Emily Piergustavo continued to dominate at the plate, collecting three hits for the third straight game to pace the Hawks. Piergustavo was 3-for-3 with a double, home run, two runs scored and two RBI. Kaitlyn DeCapua (1-for-2) had two RBI, two runs and a walk, Kelley Reichert also knocked in two runs, Maddy Bonvino (double) reached base three times and Shannon Cormier knocked a run in for Milford. Ali Atherton allowed just two hits while striking out six in a complete game effort to earn the win.

Taunton, 15 @ Canton, 0 – Final (5 inn.) – Courtney Fisher retired nine consecutive hitters, including four on strike outs, as the Tigers defeated Canton. Jaylin Couto allowed two hits, but struck out six over her two innings in relief. Jaime Brown (triple, RBI), Liana Duarte (three RBI), and MacKenzie Handrahan (double, RBI) each had two hits, while Couto blasted a three-run home run to lead Taunton’s offensive attack.

Oliver Ames, 10 @ Foxboro, 5 – Final – Katie Mills, Victoria Ziner and Katie Abreu each had multiple hits and played a big role in Oliver Ames’ offensive outburst to beat Foxboro. Mills went 4-for-5 with three RBI scored, Ziner went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a home run and Abreu was 3-for-4 with a run scored for the Tigers. Lizzie Miller added two hits and a run scored, Caroline Mahoney had two hits and Rachel Han went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Kayla Georgeu earned the win, allowing seven hits while striking out five.

Franklin, 12 @ Stoughton, 2 – Final – Franklin junior Jackie Cherry retired the final six batters on strikes and notched a career-high 12 strikeouts to help the Panthers earn a win on the road. Offensively, Tara Hartnett had three RBI, Meg Caron had a pinch-hit two-run single and Alexx Niss went 2-for-4 with a triple and scored three runs. Taylor Levine and Alessandra Leffredo each drove in a run for the Black Knights and Nikki Coppola had a pair of hits.

King Philip, 12 @ Sharon, 0 – Final (5 inn.) – King Philip junior Elise Pereira made her mark on both sides of the ball in the Warriors’ win. Pereira allowed just two hits in a complete game effort while striking out 10 batters. At the dish, she had two hits, including a three-run home run for KP. Meg Gorman (double) had three hits while Betsy Walsh and Sydney Phillips each had two hits apiece.

Mansfield, 4 @ North Attleboro, 7 – Final – North Attleboro freshman Bella Erti scattered seven hits, struck out five and walked two, while allowing no earned runs to earn the win for Big Red. At the plate, Erti had a solo home run and a double, finishing with two RBI. Sam Courtemanche was 3-for-3 while Meg Barlow and Kristina Murphy were both 2-for-3. Abby Gallagher added three RBI for the Rocketeers and Ashley Cangiano picked up an outfield assist, throwing a run out at home from center. Kara Bendanillo drove in the first Mansfield run with a bases loaded walk in the fourth and Megan Letendre singled in a second. The Hornets added two more in the fifth on an overthrow and a wild pitch. Letendre and Marissa Staffer each had two hits for Mansfield, which finished with eight as a team.

Franklin, 10 @ King Philip, 4 – Final – Franklin limited King Philip to just one goal in the first half and scored five goals in each frame to pick up a key division win. The Panthers raced out to a 5-1 lead after the first two quarters. Eric Civetti scored a game-high four goals and had one assist, Sam Arsenault scored once and had three helpers, Packie Watson notched two goals and one assist, Chase Tanner found the back of the net twice and Nitin Chaudhury had one goal and one assist for Franklin. FHS head coach Lou Verrochi praised the work of sophomore Pat Morrison, saying “he was a beast in close defense.” Connor O’Rourke made eight saves in net and sophomore Jacob Alexander won 13 of 18 faceoffs for Franklin.

James Johnston and Derek Wu won 6-0, 6-0 at first doubles and Tyler DiPalma and Rahul Hosdurg notched a 6-0, 6-1 win at second doubles. Rahul Herur won 6-2, 6-3 at first singles, Eli Brooks didn’t lose a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win at second singles and Dan Angermeier won 6-1, 6-1 at third singles.

King Philip, 0 @ Sharon, 5 – Final – It was another strong performance for the Eagles, who won all five matches in straight sets. Senior Griffin took a 6-2, 6-0 decision at first singles, junior Fred Bondar notched a 6-3, 6-0 win at second singles and junior Andre Olivei recorded a 6-4, 6-4 win at third singles. The team of senior Alex Romantz and Alberto Olivei won 6-0, 6-1 at first doubles and sophomore Danujan Thirumavalavan and senior Sammy Kirshenbaum won 6-3, 6-3 at second doubles.

Mansfield, 3 @ North Attleboro, 2 – Final – Mansfield edged out Big Red by sweeping all three singles matches. Senior Benny Lin won 7-5, 6-1 at first singles, sophomore Luke Nickerson took a 6-0, 6-4 decision at second singles and senior Gus Daganhardt prevailed with a 7-6, 6-1 win at third singles. North Attleboro won both doubles matches with senior Daniel Zhang and junior Ben Pfeffer taking first doubles 6-2, 6-2 and Andrew Harris and Vikram Senthilakumaran winning 7-5, 6-2 at second doubles.

Girls Tennis
Milford, 5 @ Attleboro, 0 – Final – All matches were competitive but Milford prevailed with a sweep, winning all five in straight sets. Julie Rabinowitz won 6-0, 6-2 at first singles, Allison Buckenmaier won 6-3, 7-5 at second singles and Caitlin Carafella won 6-1, 6-3 at third singles. The team of Victoria Beyer and Daniella Arojo won 6-4, 6-4 at first doubles and the team of Ashlyn Oliveri and Angela Pillarella won 7-5, 6-1 at second doubles.

Canton, 0 @ Taunton, 5 – Final – Taunton first singles player Olivia Sweeney won her 58th career match, setting a new program record as the Tigers swept Canton. Sweeney won 6-0, 6-4 while Jillian Pagliuca won 6-3, 6-0 at second singles and Vanessa Rosa won 6-2, 3-6, 10-6 at third singles. The team of Emily Moor and Ashleigh Eason won 6-1, 6-0 at first doubles and the team of Jordan Martin and Caroline Hebert won 6-1, 6-1 at second doubles.

Foxboro, 5 @ Oliver Ames, 0 – Final – Foxboro won all five matches in straight sets to bounce back from just its second loss of the season. Junior Sophia Prinos won 6-0, 6-0 at first singles, senior Lexi Nelson won 6-0, 6-2 at second singles and junior Kayla Prag took a 6-3, 6-4 decision at third singles. The team of juniors Morgan Krockta and Olivia Dantona won 6-3, 6-1 at second doubles and sophomore Kendall Milender and senior Jacey Nicklas earned a 7-5, 6-0 victory at second doubles for the Warriors.

Stoughton, 1 @ Franklin, 4 – Final – Franklin seniors Madison Derby and Julia Hogan won a tightly contested match at first doubles in a 10 set tiebreaker to punctuate the Panthers’ win over Stoughton. Derby and Hogan won 7-5, 5-7, 10-6 while juniors Hailey Strier and Jillian McLaughlin won 6-3, 6-1 at second doubles. Hannah Sweeney didn’t lose a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles and senior Anja Deric won 6-0, 6-2 at second singles. Stoughton senior Ally Swartz won 6-4, 6-0 at third singles for the Black Knights.

Sharon, 5 @ King Philip, 0 – Final – Sharon’s three singles players didn’t lose a single game in a dominating performance on the road. Nupur Shukla (first singles), Emily Zhang (second singles) and Lulu Yuan (third singles) each won 6-0, 6-0. The team of Katie Merport and Emily Wen won 6-3, 6-1 at first doubles and Rithika Neti and Sophia Fein teamed up for a 6-2, 6-1 victory at second doubles.

North Attleboro, 5 @ Mansfield, 0 – Final – North Attleboro won all five matches in straight sets with its first doubles pair winning without dropping a game. Katie Demontigny and Azka Siddiq won 6-0, 6-0 at first doubles for Big Red. Emily Chiasson won 6-1, 6-1 at first singles, Jordan Willis won 6-0, 6-1 at second singles and Gabby Duva recorded a 6-2, 6-4 win at third singles. Hana Hershey and Shiobhi Nandi capped the win with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at second doubles.

Canton, 0 @ King Philip, 9 – Final – Junior Jeremy Rhines tossed a complete game shutout to earn the win for the Warriors. Rhines allowed just three hits while striking out nine batters. The Warriors’ offense came to life with 12 hits. Will Weir, Patrick Limerick, Ryan Coulter, and David Morganelli each had multiple hits.

Franklin, 2 @ Taunton, 5 – Final – Taunton jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the first inning and never looked back. The Tigers added another run in the fourth inning. Sophomore Jack Moynihan tossed a complete game, striking out six without issuing a single walk. He allowed seven hits with just one earned run. At the plate, Moynihan went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Matt Machado added two hits, Joe Manchester had a double and an RBI and Christian Simoes hit a home run.

Softball
King Philip, 6 @ Canton, 0 – Final – King Philip sophomore Faith Turnese tossed a complete game shutout in her varsity debut, allowing just two hits while striking out six batters. Meghan Gorman had three hits for the Warriors, including a two-run home run. Jess Bonner added a two-run double for King Philip.

Stoughton, 17 vs. Brockton, 6 – Final – Gina Carafa took over in the circle in the fourth inning with the Black Knights trailing 6-4 and held Brockton scoreless over four innings of work with nine strikeouts. She also drove in what turned out to be the game-winning run with a triple. Jordan Lyons went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and three RBI. Nikki Coppola, Shannon Flaherty, Taylor Levine, and Carafa all had multi-hit games for Stoughton.

Junior Madison Haughey won the high jump and qualified for states with a jump of 5-1 and also placed second in the hurdles. Junior Sophia Madonna won the discus while senior Julie Romano won the two mile. Mansfield also won the 4×100 relay (Olivia Horn, Julia Harrison, Angela Corkery, Amanda Mangano) and the 4×400 relay (Caitlin Whitman, Mikaela Maughn, Cassidy McMahon, Emma Oldow).

North Beats Stoughton, Books Return to Tournament

NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. – After losing star pitcher Meg Colleran and a host of seniors, North Attleboro coach Bill Wallace knew that 2015 would be a rebuilding year for the program. The additional loss of shortstop Mycala Moody to injury only added to a long spring.

Coming into this season, the Rocketeers returned seven starters, including a healthy Moody, and added sophomore KP transfer Amelia Murphy in the circle. The expectation was a for a quick return to the tournament and on Friday afternoon North fulfilled that goal secured its place in the postseason.

Behind a four-hit, three-RBI day from Moody in the leadoff spot and three RBI from No. 2 hitter Jordan Sharpe, North beat Stoughton 13-2 for its ninth win of the season.

“It’s good to be back in,” said Wallace. “The kids are thrilled.”

He added, “They knew last year was going to be a tough year with the amount of seniors we lost, so I think they came in here knowing we had seven starters coming back thinking we’re going to be in the tournament.”

The North offense was clicking with Moody setting the tone in her first at-bat with a hard grounder through the infield that was missed by the right fielder allowing her to take third. Sharpe brought her home with a groundout and North had a 1-0 lead.

The Rocketeers would have 18 hits as a team against Stoughton pitchers Shannon Flaherty and Gina Carafa and every batter in the starting lineup had at least one. In addition to Moody’s 4-for-5 day, Liz Morehouse went 2-for-4, Kaylea Sherman went 2-for-3 with a walk, Amelia Murphy was 2-for-2 with a walk, and No. 9 hitter Gina Miceli chipped in with a 2-for-3 day and reached base three times.

Miceli acts as a second leadoff hitter for North, setting the table for the top of the order, according to Wallace. He said, “I’ve been tempted to move her up but she’s very comfortable. Last year she dealt with injuries and things like that and this year she came out, won the spot and is very happy in the nine spot and we are too.”

Stoughton had seven hits, three of them in the four innings that Murphy pitched, but the Black Knights showed a lot of pop at the plate.

Unfortunately for the visitors, a lot of those line drives went right at North players, including shots to Sherman in center and Sharpe in right in the opening inning and a line drive ripped to Moody at short that she turned into a game-ending double play by picking off a runner at first.

“We’re snake-bitten,” said first-year Stoughton coach Tim Norton. “We’re swinging the bats real well right now. Everything was line drives; I think there was maybe one, two pop-ups. They just made the plays.”

The Rocketeers broke the game open in the third with four runs. Sherman had an infield single to start it and Murphy followed with a singe to left. Kristina Murphy bunted past the charging third baseman to load the bases.

Megan Barlow hit a sac fly to left for the first run, Sam Courtemanche had a squeeze bunt to plate the second, Miceli’s infield single scored the third and Moody lined a single to center for the fourth.

“After the first two innings I was a little frustrated,” Wallace explained, “because we left five runners on base, but then we started mixing in the bunt a little bit, we squeezed one home there. Sometimes that gets teams going and lately it seems to kind of kickstart us.”

The offensive outburst continued in the fifth. North sent 12 batters to the plate and scored seven runs to put the game out of reach.

A Morehouse single and an Amelia Murphy double put two in scoring position with one out and Kristina Murphy singled to bring one run in. A fielder’s choice reloaded the bases and a wild pitch scored another run.

After a walk loaded the bases for a third time, Moody doubled down the left field line for a pair of RBI and Sharpe followed it with a single to right center for two more runs. North led 12-0 after four innings.

“It’s a young team,” Norton said. “They’re still learning how to play together. It takes time and I think they’re learning but yeah occasionally we’re going to have those lapses in communication. You don’t need to help a team like that.”

Stoughton did not give up. Abby Warren came in to relieve Murphy in the circle after the starter had to leave for a family event and the Black Knights got on the board.

A walk to Taylor Levine and an infield single by Jenivieve D’Andrea put two on with no outs and Samantha Tullis followed with an RBI single to center. Jordan Lyons reached on a fielder’s choice and Brianna Ferrandiz smacked a single to right center that scored one, but Tullis slipped rounding third and was caught in a rundown for the first out.

North tacked on an insurance run in the sixth with Morehouse’s infield single bringing in Moody who had led-off with a hit and stolen second.

The Black Knights came into the game on a four-game win streak and had already clinched a playoff berth, their first since 2012. Norton was happy to see his team ensure tournament qualification in his first season as head coach.

“We’re really excited,” he said. “The future is bright. I was blessed with taking over a program that had a lot of young talent coming up.”

Stoughton (10-8, 7-7) will travel to Milford on Tuesday. North (9-8, 8-7) will host Attleboro on Monday afternoon.
