Boys Basketball
Canton, 40 @ Attleboro, 48 – Final – Canton cut a double-digit halftime deficit down to three in the third quarter but Attleboro finished the quarter strong and pulled away for good with a 10-0 run to start the fourth. Lanse Dorcelus drained a three with three minutes left in the third to make it 28-25 but Attleboro closed with a 7-2 run to take a 35-27 lead into the fourth. Alvin Harrison, who had a career-high 19 points, scored twice down low and then sophomore Neo Franco (eight points) and senior Colin Morais each hit a three as the Bombardiers pushed the lead to 45-27 with five minutes left. Dorcelus scored 12 of his team-high 13 points in the second half, Dillon Nguyen hit a trio of second half trifectas for 12 points, and Matt Chafin had 11 points for the Bulldogs.

Foxboro, 68 @ Taunton, 69 – Final – Taunton’s big three of Trent Santos, Tristan Herry, and Faisal Mass combined for 65 points and the Tigers avoided an upset bid from visiting Foxboro. The Warriors twice rallied from big deficits to make a game of it but came up just short as the buzzer expired. Taunton raced out to a 21-5 lead but Foxboro had a big second quarter to make it a six-point game, 43-37, at halftime. After an even third quarter, Taunton once again stretched its lead to double-digits at 64-51 before the Warriors came charging back in the final minutes. Santos, who dropped a game-high 33 points, sank a pair of free throws with 30 seconds left to put the hosts ahead 69-66. Foxboro finally converted at the rim with under 10 seconds to go but there wasn’t enough time left to force an inbounds and the buzzer sounded for a 69-68 win for Taunton. Santos hit five first-half threes while Faisal Mass also had two in the opening half, finishing with 19 points. Herry added a first half three of his own and finished with 13 points. Dylan Gordon led Foxboro with 22 points, Alex Penders added 15, and Sam Golub chipped in with 13 points with three trifectas for the Warriors, who sank a season-high 11 three-pointers.

Sharon, 57 @ Franklin, 75 – Final – Sharon had a one-point lead after the first quarter, Franklin surged ahead by 10 at the halftime break, the Eagles cut it back to eight going into the fourth, and then the Panthers poured in 24 points in the final frame to run away with the win. Senior Sean Vinson (14 points) sank four three-pointers in the fourth quarter and sophomore Henry Digiorgio (game-high 25 points) had five three-pointers in the second half, two in the fourth, to help Franklin pull away. Sophomore Sean O’Leary scored 12 of his 18 points in the opening half as Franklin staked a 35-25 lead at halftime. Sharon’s Donyae Pierre scored eight of his 13 points in the opening quarter and both Will Hippler (10 points) and Matt Baur (10 points) hit first quarter threes to help the Eagles take a 17-16 edge into the first intermission.

Oliver Ames, 56 @ Mansfield, 69 – Final – Mansfield jumped out to a double-digit lead by the end of the first quarter and kept OA at bay the rest of the way to finish crossover action with a win. Junior Chris Hill (eight rebounds, four assists, two blocks, two steals) tied a career-high with 21 points, including 13 in the first half to help the Hornets seize a 33-20 advantage at halftime. The Tigers held the hosts to 10 points in the third but Mansfield went 9-for-10 from the line in the fourth and put the game away with 26 points. Andrew Slaney (four steals) hit three three-pointers on his way to 15 points while Caden Colby had eight first-half points for Mansfield. CJ Williams and Drew Baxter paced OA with 11 points each while CJ Santos and Zach Tagliamonte chipped in with 10 points apiece.

Stoughton, 57 @ Milford, 54 – Final – Stoughton used a balance attack offensively and survived a last second shot from Milford to record a win on the road. The Black Knights had eight players in the scoring column with senior Cash Mathurin leading the way with 11 points. Stoughton led by four (23-19) after a hot start from both offenses but the Hawks tied it up at 32-all by halftime. Stoughton jumped ahead by the end of the third (45-39). Rayan Sablon had a huge three in the final minutes and finished with a team-high 13 points for Stoughton. Milford had a shot at the go-ahead basket in the final seconds but its bid from the block stayed out. Sophomore Jake Soares led Milford with 13 points.

Taunton, 33 @ Foxboro, 60 – Final – Freshman Kailey Sullivan continued her strong rookie campaign with 22 points, as the warriors earned a fourth straight victory. Camryn Collins also reached double figures for Foxboro, finishing with 11.

Franklin, 61 @ Sharon, 27 – Final – Franklin had 10 players get on the score sheet and the Panthers held their fourth straight opponent under 30 points to improve to 10-0 on the season. Sharon was held to just four points in the first quarter and Franklin broke the game open by scoring 20 in the second for a 29-12 halftime lead. An 18-6 third quarter put distance between the teams. Stefany Padula and Olivia Quinn each scored 14 points. Padula scored all of her points in the middle two quarters and buried four threes. Quinn had five of Franklin’s nine points in the first and another six in the second. Katie Peterson added nine points in the win. Jasmine Davis led the Eagles with nine points and Tess Letendre scored eight.

King Philip, 29 @ North Attleboro, 23 – Final – KP was able to pull out a defensive struggle on the road and moved back to .500 on the season. Although North was able to hold KP’s center Emily Sawyer to six points, the Rocketeers struggled to find the range with only four players getting on the score sheet. Summer Doherty led North with nine points and Taylor McMath added seven, while also doing a strong job defensively in the paint and on the glass. Ava McKeon chipped in with five points.

Mansfield, 36 @ Oliver Ames, 60 – Final – Mansfield made a second quarter push to cut the deficit to single digits, but Oliver Ames dominated the second half to get the win. The Tigers limited the visitors to just four free throws in the opening quarter to establish a 20-4 lead through eight minutes. Mansfield made a game of it with a big second, cutting it to 32-23 by halftime. But OA once again locked in defensively, surrendering just three points in the third to run away with the win. Senior Caroline Peper led the way with 15 points and eight assists, sophomore Jasmyn Cooper added 14 points and 11 rebounds, Anna Murphy chipped in with 10 points, and Hailey Bourne set the tone with high energy defensive play. Abby Wager led Mansfield with a team-high 10 points.

Milford, 40 @ Stoughton, 36 – Final – Following a 40-point night against Burncoat on Monday, Maddalena Mannucci Pacini scored 23 against Stoughton to help Milford win for the second time in two days. The Black Knights had a 25-23 lead going into the fourth, but the Hawks scored 17 in the final eight minutes to come from behind and pick up the win. Pacini had 11 points through three quarters and exploded for 12 in the fourth, including 4-of-4 at the line, and Maeve Driscoll added four of her nine points in the final quarter to pull out the win. Jess Maddalena led the Black Knights with nine points. Katrina Varnum nearly had a triple-double in the loss, scoring eight points, blocking seven shots, and grabbing nine rebounds, while Alyssa Edwards had seven points and 10 boards.

Boys Hockey
Oliver Ames, 1 @ Franklin, 8 – Final – Franklin came out hot right from the opening puck drop, scoring five goals in the opening period in a league win over visiting Oliver Ames. Dylan Marchand scored twice while Christian Shabbick, Ben Paterson, and Domenic Lampasona each found the back of the net once as Franklin established a 5-0 lead. Shabbick, Logan Marchand, and Dylan McEvoy tacked on goals in the third period for the Panthers. Ryan Sicchio assisted on half of Franklin’s goals, Paterson added three helpers, and Justin Magazu recorded two assists. Andrew Livingstone (from Jack Corey and Sean Kearns) scored a second period goal for OA. Junior Brandon Burke turned away 27 saves for OA while sophomore Cole Pouliot-Porter had 16 saves in the win for the Panthers.

Boys Swimming
Mansfield, 63 @ Seekonk, 94 – Final – Mansfield closed its dual meet with a loss to Seekonk but put up some impressive performances in the setback. Rico Balanza won both the 100 free and the 100 back, Kevin McCarthy shaved off seven seconds for a new personal best in a first place finish in the 200 free, Xavier Gwynne set a new PR in his win in the 100 fly, and Ryan Morley came in first in the 100 breaststroke with a new PR. Palanza, Morley, McCarthy, and Gwynne teamed up to take first in the 200 free relay as well.

Girls Swimming
Mansfield, 73 @ Seekonk, 97 – Final – Mansfield recorded a handful of season-best times but fell on the road to Seekonk. Sofia Seifert took first in the 100 breaststroke, followed by a second place finish and new PR time from Katherine Elliott. Seifert added a season-best time in the 100 free and took second, Elliott also set a new PR in a second place finish in the 200 IM, and Carla Guirguis set a new personal record in a second place finish in the 100 fly. Separately, over at Wheaton College at the Hockomock League Diving Championships, Mansfield’s Caitlyn Zajac took home the championship with a score of 187.75.

Gymnastics
North Attleboro, 123.15 @ Oliver Ames, 136.3 – Final – Senior Kate McGarry took first place in both the bars and the floor, Abbey DeCouto won the beam, Katie Babinikas grabbed first on the vault, and Oliver Ames finished its final dual meet with a win over North Attleboro. McGarry scored a 9.1 on the bars, and won the floor with a 9.3 while OA captains Peyton Rivers (8.8) and Halley Gramer (8.3) each set new personal bests on the floor. DeCouto and Babanikas each scored 9.0 in their respective wins while Shayla Nagle, Kalli Puskar and Lexi Weintraub all scored key points to help the Tigers.

Mansfield, 56 @ Canton, 41 – Final – Mansfield opened the game with a dominating first quarter and never looked back to get a win on the road at Canton. The Hornets raced out to a 9-2 lead and then scored 10 points over the final three minutes to establish a 19-4 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Junior Chris Hill scored eight of his 11 points in the opening quarter and Mansfield seized a 27-14 lead at halftime. Caden Colby scored nine of his 12 points in the third to help the Hornets pull away in the second half. Senior Matt Hyland also scored 12 points for the Hornets while Canton senior Lanse Dorcelus scored a game-high 17 points.

Milford, 46 @ Foxboro, 61 – Final – A big first quarter helped Foxboro establish a double-digit lead that it never surrendered the rest of the way to take its second win in as many days. Sam Golub hit a pair of threes and scored nine of his 13 point sin the first quarter as the Warriors jumped out to a 20-3 lead after eight minutes of play. From there, it was an even game with Dylan Gordon scoring eight points in the second and seven more in the fourth, finishing with a game-high 22 points. Junior Alex Penders chipped in with 15 points for the Warriors. Sophomore Jake Soares led the Scarlet Hawks with 13 points while freshman Luca Testa added 10 points.

King Philip, 54 @ Oliver Ames, 65 – Final – After a close first quarter, Oliver Ames nearly doubled up on King Philip between the second and third quarters to grab a key crossover win at home. The Tigers took a 20-17 lead after one quarter but held the visiting Warriors to eight points in the second, grabbing a 37-25 halftime lead, and then limited KP to nine points in the third to push the advantage to 50-34 going into the fourth quarter. Junior Zach Tagliamonte got the hosts off to a strong start, scoring 15 of the team’s 20 first quarter points. Tagliamonte finished with a game-high 30 points while Drew Baxter added 13 points for OA, who hit 27 shots from the floor. King Philip had six players connect from downtown for a total of 10 three-pointers. Senior Braeden Sottile hit two of them and finished with a team-high 12 points while senior Charlie Grant also knocked down a pair for 10 points.

Franklin, 71 @ Stoughton, 43 – Final – Franklin had four players score in double figures and used a big third quarter to run away with a win on the road at Stoughton. Senior Sean Vinson (19 points), sophomore Henry Digiorgio (15 points), sophomore Andrew O’Neill (13 points), and sophomore Sean O’Leary (10 points) accounted for 11 of Franklin’s 13 made three-pointers on the night. Digiorgio and O’Leary each hit one in the third and O’Neill knocked down a pair and had a total of 10 points in the third as the Panthers turned a 10-point halftime lead (30-20) into a comfortable 57-37 advantage going into the fourth quarter. Junior Rayan Sablon led the way for the Black Knights with 15 points.

Taunton, 60 @ North Attleboro, 33 – Final – Trent Santos and Troy Santo each knocked down a pair of first quarter three-pointers as the Tigers grabbed an early lead but Taunton needed a big second half to pull away from a pesky North Attleboro side. Taunton led 22-13 after a quarter but a prepared and pesky North defense limited the Tigers to just five points (all from Tristan Herry) in the second quarter as the Rocketeers closed the gap to five, 27-22, at halftime. Taunton responded by limited the hosts to just four points in the third as Trent Santos (17 points), Herry (15 points), and Faisal Mass (14 points) each had a pair of baskets to push the lead back to double-digits, 39-26, going into the fourth. Taunton’s strong defense continued, holding North to seven in the final frame while the offense came back alive for 21 points. Casey Poirier led North Attleboro with 10 points.










Girls Basketball
Sharon, 32 @ Attleboro, 61 – Final – Meghan Gordon scored a game-high 31 points to power Attleboro to a big win. The Bombardiers jumped out to a 21-9 lead after the first, extended the lead in the middle quarters, and then closed with a 15-4 fourth quarter to break the game wide open. Gordon scored 10 of Attleboro’s 12 points in the second and nine of Attleboro’s 15 in the fourth. Kayla Goldrick added nine points and Lindsey Perry and Riley Camacho each had seven for the Bombardiers. Jasmine Davis was the leading scorer for the Eagles with 13 points, while Trinity Payne had six and Rachael Hager had five in the loss.

Foxboro, 69 @ Milford, 30 – Final – Freshman Kailey Sullivan recorded a career-high 23 points to lead the Warriors to a second win in as many nights. For the second straight game, Foxboro had three players reach double figures. Erin Foley added 13 and Camryn Collin scored a dozen points in the win. Brooke Ferreira was Milford’s leading scorer, finishing with 17.

Stoughton, 27 @ Franklin, 61 – Final – Franklin led 18-3 after one quarter and never allowed Stoughton to get back into the game from there, extending its long win streak and staying unbeaten in league play. Stefany Padula buried a handful of threes on her way to a game-high 17. Katie Peterson had 11 points and Emma Sousa finished with eight. The trio combined for all 17 of Franklin’s points in the third quarter. Sophomore Maiya Merritt had 11 points while Alyssa Edwards chipped in with 8 points for Stoughton.

Oliver Ames, 57 @ King Philip, 32 – Final – OA went on a run at the end of the half to take the lead for good and then locked down defensively in the second half to earn the road win. The Warriors led 11-10 after one but a run near the end of the second quarter gave the Tigers a 26-19 lead heading to the locker room. OA took control with a 16-8 third quarter and then held KP to just five points in the fourth to pull away. Anna Murphy anchored a strong defensive effort from OA and added 13 points offensively. Sophomores Jasmyn Cooper (eight rebounds) and Sarah Hilliard (seven rebounds) tied for the team-high with 14 points apiece while classmate Kaydance Derba added 10 points and eight boards. Emily Sawyer finished with nine points, seven in the first half, to lead the Warriors, which also got eight points from Julia Marsden.

North Attleboro, 30 @ Taunton, 53 – Final – Kameron St. Pierre scored 14 points in each half, knocked down four three-pointers, and finished with a game-high 28 to lead the Tigers to a big home win. Summer Doherty was North’s top scorer with 13 (10 in the first half) and no other Rocketeer finished with more than three points. Taunton jumped out to a 19-6 lead in the first and never looked back, leading by 11 at the half and holding North to just two made field goals after the break. Abby Souza added six points, all in the first half, for the Tigers and three other players finished with five.

Foxboro, 57 @ North Attleboro, 36 – Final – Three players scored in double digits to lead the Warriors to a big road win that moves them back over .500 on the season. Hannah Blake scored a game-high 15 to lead the way for Foxboro, while Erin Foley added 12 points and Camryn Collins had 11. Foxboro led by nine at halftime (29-20) but then outscored North 28-16 in the second half to push the lead to more than 20. Summer Doherty was North’s top scorer with 14 and Ava McKeon added 11 in the loss.

Doherty Helps North Pull Out Win Over Stoughton

NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. – North Attleboro has been struggling with its offense all season long and that has made it difficult to close out close games in the fourth quarter. On Friday night at the Pickering Gym, the Rocketeers figured out ways to manufacture points in the final minutes and put up their best scoring night of the year.

Leading by seven after the third, North scored 17 points in the fourth quarter to pull out a 54-43 victory over Stoughton and end its three-game win streak. The teams entered the night as the league’s lowest-scorers and both set season highs in points.

“We need to play as a team,” said North coach Nikki Correia. “It’s frustrating when you’re not winning. Once we talked yesterday and said, you win as a team, you lose as team. You need to start playing together and stop making those mental mistakes and the game will come. We came out for the first time looking confident. We battled through mistakes and kept working hard and stuck to the game plan.”

Slow starts have been an issue for the Rocketeers as well, but North jumped out to an 8-0 lead that it never relinquished. Summer Doherty was the spark plug for the hosts, scoring eight of her game-high 23 points in the first. She also finished the night with three blocks, three steals, and seven rebounds.

Doherty started things with a pull-up jumper, then leaked out on the break to get a layup after Ava McKeon’s defensive rebound. She buried another jumper off an Abby Camelio assist to make it 10-2. Stoughton got off to a tough start and head coach Charmaine Steele Jordan called for more energy at the first timeout.

The Black Knights did come out with more life to close the quarter. After Raina Tat walked into a straightaway three, Makaiyah Singleton Rivera (11 points and nine rebounds) gave the visitors a much-needed lift with four points, both baskets coming off offensive boards, including one at the buzzer to send Stoughton to the bench down just 15-9 after one.

“She was a nice spark tonight for us,” said Steele Jordan of Singleton Rivera. “We started a little slow. We got good looks, shots just weren’t falling our way tonight. They’re gritty, they fight, it’s tough because I can’t ask them to go harder. They’re giving me all they’ve got.”

Singleton Rivera started the second with a jumper to cut the lead to as little as four, but Doherty answered with a three down the other end. Tat (six points) hit her second three of the night but Camelio (10 points and nine rebounds) matched it off one of McKeon’s four assists. McKeon (13 points and 12 rebounds) also started to get things going with six in the quarter, pushing the lead to 27-19. McKeon and Doherty combined for 21 of North’s 27 in the first half.

Stoughton went on a quick burst right at the end of the half, with Singleton Rivera making two at the line and then turning a steal into a layup, to send the teams into the locker room with North only up four.

Doherty didn’t slow down coming out of the break, starting the half with her second three. After Kate Bulger’s runner, Doherty added a jumper from Sam Faria’s skip pass over the top of the Stoughton zone. Evie Lam nailed a triple on the other end and then got an easy two after Singleton Rivera grabbed a rebound and managed to squeeze a pass to her while laying on her back.

North had stalled on the offensive end but got a big bucket before the end of the quarter when Camelio banked in a three to extend the lead to 37-30.

Again it was Doherty that got North going, starting the fourth with a layup. Camelio added another after McKeon’s rebound and long pass ahead to put North up by double digits. To that point, all but one of North’s points had been scored by the trio of Doherty, McKeon, and Camelio, but in the final quarter other players stepped up.

Taylor McMath (five points) went 4-of-8 from the line in the fourth and Faria got her lone basket after Camelio hit her with a long pass over the press coming out of a timeout. The Rocketeers may have put the game away sooner but shot 6-of-13 from the line in the fourth (and 15-29 for the game).

Stoughton continued to battle, despite losing Singleton Rivera and Jess Maddalena to injuries in the second half. Bulger (five points) drilled a three and assisted on one for Lam (eight points), while Vanessa Phelimond got her only points of the night with three-point play after a pass by Alyssa Edwards.

“I couldn’t be prouder of hard we’re trying,” said Steele Jordan. “We’re getting better executing, we’re getting better talking and listening on defense, which is what you want to see at this time of the year. I can’t wait for their heart and their hustle to convert into a win because they want it.”

With North running the clock down on every possession, Doherty sealed the win in the final minute by burying a three after a swing pass by McMath.

Correia said, “We have to play four quarters and a lot of time we may have two really good quarter and two quarters where they become stagnant, they stand around. We kept fighting through. We responded tonight, which we haven’t done in past games.”

North Attleboro (3-6) will try to carry that momentum into Monday night when it hosts Foxboro. Stoughton (0-9) will also be at home, on Tuesday, to face unbeaten Franklin.

Stoughton, 65 @ Attleboro, 88 – Final – Attleboro junior Trevor White scored 10 of his career-high 27 points in the opening quarter, helping the Bombardiers establish a double-digit lead it never relinquished against Stoughton. The Bombardiers scored over 20 points in three of the four quarters, racing out to a 24-9 lead after one period. Attleboro carried a 38-25 lead into the locker room at halftime, and then White added 10 more points in the third, hitting a total of four three-pointers. Evan Houle added a trio of three-pointers on his way to 19 points while sophomore Neo Franco had one three and finished with nine points. Joe Francois-Annevil hit four shots from the field and finished with 11 points for the hosts, who carried a 61-44 lead into the final frame. Stoughton senior Connor Andrews went 12-for-13 at the line and hit nine shots from the field for a career-high 31 points while junior Rayan Sablon added 13 points for the Black Knights, who were limited to just five three-pointers.

Canton, 68 @ King Philip, 56 – Final – Canton senior Lanse Dorcelus scored half of his career-high 30 points in the final frame as the Bulldogs pulled away from King Philip in the second half for a key crossover win. Dorcelus had a team-high 15 points going into the final frame, with his squad holding a 45-38 advantage. He hit a three early, added three field goals from two-point range, and then went 6-for-7 from the line to help secure the win. Nate Mei added four of his 10 points in the fourth while senior Dillon Nguyen scored all 11 of his point through the first three quarters. King Philip, who was tied with the visitors 26-26 at halftime, got a team-high 16 points from Braeden Sottile while classmate Danny Clancy added 14 points for the Warriors, who ended up with just five three-pointers and went just 5-for-12 from the free throw line.

Foxboro, 53 @ Franklin, 78 – Final – Franklin opened the game with a big run, established a double-digit advantage by halftime, and never looked back in a win over visiting Foxboro. A strong start led to a 19-point first quarter for the hosts with Will Tracey (eight points) and Andrew O’Neill (12 points) each connecting from deep, and sophomore Sean O’Leary accounting for six of his 10 points. Sophomore Henry Digiorgio (16 points) hit a trio of threes in the second as Franklin took a 35-23 lead into the locker room. Tracey and classmate Sean Vinson (14 points) added threes in the third and O’Neill had seven more points to keep the Panthers ahead, leading 59-38 going into the fourth. Foxboro senior Dylan Gordon had a team-high 12 points while Sam Golub added 10 points for the Warriors.

Sharon, 48 @ Mansfield, 69 – Final – Mansfield’s lead grew at the end of each quarter, culminating in a 23-point fourth quarter to secure a 69-48 win over Sharon, snapping the Eagles’ five-game win streak. Senior Andrew Slaney (11 points), senior Jack Lasbury-Casey (eight points), and junior Dante James (six points) each connected from three-point range to help the hosts build a 12-8 lead at the end of the opening quarter. The lead grew to 27-20 by halftime and then a 19-point third quarter, featuring buckets from Caden Colby, Trevor Foley, and Anthony Sachetti, helped the Hornets push the lead to 40-30 heading into the final frame. Senior Matt Hyland put the game away, scoring 11 of his game-high 25 points in the final frame to help Mansfield pull away. Sophomore Nate Katznelson had a team-high 14 points while junior Matt Baur added all 12 of his points in the second half for the Eagles, who ended up connecting on just one three-pointer coming in the third quarter.

Oliver Ames, 56 @ Taunton, 86 – Final – It was a game to remember for senior Trent Santos, leading Taunton to a big win at home over visiting Oliver Ames. Santos etched his name into the record books, connecting on 11 three-pointers on his way to a career-high 46 points. After just five points in the opening quarter, Trent took center stage. He hit five three-pointers in the second quarter alone, adding five free throws as well for 25 points in the first half, helping his Tigers to a 42-30 lead. The three-point barrage continued after halftime as Trent hit three more in the third quarter and two more in the fourth to get to 46 points. Taunton held an 18-10 lead after one quarter and a 60-43 edge after three quarters of action. Sophomore Troy Santos had a career-high 15 points while senior Faisal Mass added 11 points. Oliver Ames junior Zach Tagliamonte hit 11 shots from the field to finish with a team-high 25 points while senior Drew Baxter added 11 points.










Girls Basketball
Attleboro, 70 @ Stoughton, 27 – Final – Attleboro’s offense continues to fire on all cylinders, as the Bombardier scored 40 points in the first half to take a big lead that it wouldn’t relinquish. The Bombardiers jumped out to a 20-2 lead after the first quarter and then added another 20 in the second to go into the break up 40-15. Attleboro continued its strong defense in the second half, holding the Black Knights to just 12 points after the break. Meghan Gordon led all scorers with 14 and Lindsey Perry added 12. Kayla Goldrick scored eight, while Lilian Froio and Vanessa Ellis each had seven for Attleboro, which got points from each player on the roster. Vanessa Phelimond and Evie Lam each had five to lead Stoughton.

Franklin, 51 @ Foxboro, 47 – Final – Franklin’s unbeaten run nearly came to an end at Foxboro, but the Panthers rallied from three points down with two minutes to play to remain in first place in the Kelley-Rex. After Foxboro took a one-point lead after the first, Franklin scored 20 in the second to take a 29-24 lead into the locker room. The Warriors won the third to send the game into the final quarter tied. Camryn Collins had a career-high 21 points, including 10 in the third quarter, to lead all scorers. Erin Foley added 13 and knocked down four threes, while Hannah Blake scored all seven of her points in the fourth to help Foxboro take a late lead. Stefany Padula scored eight of her 12 points in the fourth, making 6-of-8 from the line, to help Franklin pull out the win. Katie Peterson and Olivia Quinn each scored 11 points in the win, with 19 of their combined 22 coming in the opening half.

Mansfield, 58 @ Sharon, 29 – Final – Mansfield clamped down defensively in the second half, limiting Sharon to just nine points and turning a close game into a big win. The Hornets led 28-20 heading into the locker room, but came out with a 19-4 third quarter to break the game wide open. Kara Santos scored eight of her 12 points in that third quarter run and Hallie Popat added four of her dozen points to lead Mansfield. Abby Wager chipped in with 10 points, eight in the first half, and Anna Darlington scored all eight of her points before halftime. Rachael Hager led the Eagles with 12 points, all coming on threes in the first half, as she scored 12 of Sharon’s 20 before the break. Jasmine Davis added eight points, scoring a basket in each quarter.

Milford, 41 @ North Attleboro, 30 – Final – Milford made its free throws down the stretch and limited North to just five points in the fourth quarter to pick up its first league win of the season. Jill Araujo and Maddalena Mannucci Pacini each scored 11 points to lead the Hawks. Summer Doherty scored a game-high 15 for the Rocketeers. Milford led 22-17 at halftime but North cut the lead to just two by holding the Hawks to three points in the third. The Hawks turned the tables in the fourth, outscoring the hosts 14-5 over the final eight minutes.

Taunton, 44 @ Oliver Ames, 86 – Final – Oliver Ames scored 53 points in the second half, turning a six-point game into a big win. Taunton made a game of it, keeping close with the hosts and trailed 33-27 at the break. OA got on track in the third and pulled away for the big win. OA senior Caroline Peper led all scorers with 22 points along with five assists while sophomores Kaydance Derba (19 points) and Jasmyn Cooper (13 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists) both had big games for the hosts. Kameron St. Pierre continued her strong season for the Tigers, scoring a team-high 17 points. Abby Souza added 14 points and Cali Melo scored nine in the loss.

Franklin, 144.2 @ Oliver Ames, 140.55 – Final – Franklin seniors Kate Rudolph and Emma White took the top two spots in the All Around category to help the Panthers land a win over Oliver Ames. Rudolph was first with a score of 37.4 and White was right behind at 36.4. Rudolph was first in the bars (8.85) and the beam (9.5) while taking second in the vault (9.6) and the floor (9.45). White was the winner for the vault (9.7) and the floor (9.7), taking second on the beam (9.0), and fourth on the bars at 8.0. Lizzie Brown added a third place finish on the vault (9.2), Elizabeth Schirduan was third on the bars (8.2) and the beam (9.0), Emma Nelson recorded a 9.0 on the vault and a 8.4. on the bars, and Caroline Woelfel scored key points in the vault (9.1), the beam (8.9), and the floor (8.85).

Franklin, 53 vs. Worcester North, 42 – Final – Franklin held just a one-possession lead with just under five minutes to go in the game but limited Worcester North to just two points over the final 4:47, finishing the contest on a 10-2 run to get the win. The Panthers trailed after one (12-9) but took a one-point lead (20-19) into halftime, and a four-point lead (37-33) into the final quarter. Sophomore Henry Digiorgio scored six of his game-high 22 points in the final quarter and senior Sean Vinson added seven of his 12 points in the fourth. Franklin hit 12 three-pointers on the day, with Digiorgio sinking five, Vinson and Andrew O’Neill each with two, and Ben Harvey, Justin Allen, and Sean O’Leary all adding one.

Sharon, 65 vs. Waltham, 50 – Final – Sharon tightened it up defensively in the fourth and turned it on offensively in the same frame to pull away from Waltham to claim the Clocker Classic Championship. The Eagles were locked in a tight battle with Waltham, leading slightly after one (15-12) and three (40-38), and tied at halftime (25-25). Sophomore Nate Katznelson delivered a career-high 21 points, scoring 14 in the second half. Sophomore Jacob McLaughlin added a career-high 14 points, half coming in the third quarter, and senior Matt Baur finished strong with 11 of his 16 points coming in Sharon’s decisive 25-point fourth quarter.










Girls Basketball
King Philip, 51 vs. Chicopee, 57 – Final – KP fell behind by eight points after the first quarter and couldn’t catch Chicopee Comp to lose for the first time this season. The Warriors struggled to contain Chicopee’s top scorers Yamirelis Natos (19 points) and Nicole Rodriguez (game-high 20 points, including four threes). After Chicopee took the first 18-10, KP rallied to cut the lead in half by the break. In the third quarter, Chicopee extended the lead back to seven. The fourth quarter was a shootout, as KP scored 19 points in an attempt to come from behind, but Rodriguez scored nine of Chicopee’s 18 to hold off the Warriors. Emily Sawyer scored a team-high 17 points, including nine in the second quarter. Liv Lafond added 15, 12 of them coming in the second half, and Jackie Bonner scored 10, knocking down three from the outside. The trio combined for 17 of KP’s 19 points during the fourth quarter.

North Attleboro, 42 vs. Durfee, 44 – Final – Durfee grabbed an offensive rebound and scored as time expired to pull out the win in the final of Taunton’s holiday tournament. Even with leading scorer Summer Doherty limited with two early fouls, North went into halftime down just 22-20. The Rocketeers never trailed by more than five points after the break. Sam Sweeney knocked down a big three with 1:15 left to play that cut the Durfee lead down to two. After a big defensive stop, Katie Corsetti was fouled going to the basket and hit both free throws to tie the game. Ava McKeon and Taylor McMath both led the Rocketeers with eight points apiece, and McMath also added eight offensive rebounds. Sweeney and Doherty each finished with seven points and Doherty was named to the all-tournament team.

Taunton, 34 vs. Holliston, 37 – Final – After scoring only eight points in the opening half, Taunton rallied after halftime to close the gap and nearly pull off a come from behind win in the consolation round of its holiday tournament. Jillian Doherty scored four of Taunton’s eight points before the break. The Tigers then came out in the third quarter and scored 15 as a team, adding 11 more in the fourth. A day after scoring 28 against Durfee, Kameron St. Pierre took a little while to get going against the Panthers but exploded for 11 of her team-high 13 points in the second half to help with the comeback. Cali Melo added all nine of her points in the second half and Lexi Haywood knocked down a big three.

King Philip, 66 vs. New Bedford, 63 – Final – King Philip junior Tommy Martorano hit six fourth quarter free throws to cap off a career-best 36-point performance to lead the Warriors to a win over New Bedford in Randolph’s Blue Devil Holiday Tournament. Without leading scorers Will Laplante and Danny Clancy in the lineup, Martorano took advantage of his opportunity. He came out of the gates flying with 10 point sin the opening quarter and had 23 by halftime as KP established a 46-28 lead by the break. New Bedford cut into the lead in the third and then came out flying in the fourth, getting it down to one-possession a handful of times in the final minutes but Martorano kept the Warriors ahead with shots from the line. Senior Braeden Sottile added 10 points for KP, who will take on host Randolph in the tournament final on Thursday at 6:30.

Milford vs. Bethany Christian – Postponed to TBD.

Oliver Ames, 61 vs. Dighton-Rehoboth, 39 – Final – Oliver Ames exploded for 26 points in the third quarter, turning a close game at halftime (25-19) into a comfortable victory over Dighton-Rehoboth in the opening round of the Muscato Holiday Tournament. MJ Jean-Baptiste scored eight of his career-high 14 points in the big third quarter for the Tigers, who had six players contribute to the 26-point frame. Zach Tagliamonte added four of his 11 points in the frame and Drew Baxter scored five of his nine.

Sharon, 68 vs. Fitchburg, 64 – Final (OT) – Sharon saw its eight-point lead at the start of the fourth quarter disappear over the final eight minutes but senior John Baez went 6-for-6 at the line in the overtime period to help the Eagles outlast Fitchburg. Baez finished with a career-high 16 points, going 8-for-8 from the line and hitting four shots from the field. Sharon’s bench had a big showing, helping the Eagles rally from a first half deficit. Junior Tyler Goodman led the charge off the bench with 10 points, Jacob McLaughlin added eight points, Nate Katznelson chipped in with six points and five boards, and Nate Yaffe had a key three in the first half. Sharon will take on Waltham on Wednesday night at 7:00 in the finals of the Ashland Clocker Classic.

Attleboro faced it third state title contender in its opening five games and the Bombardiers struggled to contain Feehan’s balanced offensive attack. Eight different players scored for the Shamrocks, including three in double digits, and Feehan 20 or more points in each of the first three quarters to pick up the win. Meghan Gordon led the Bombardiers with 15, including seven in the fourth quarter, and Lily Routhier added nine. Lindsey Perry scored all seven of her points in the second half, as Attleboro scored in double digits as a team in three of the four quarters, despite Feehan’s tough pressure defense.

Foxboro, 53 @ Needham, 47 – Final – Hannah Blake led all scorers with 21 points to help the Warriors win a third straight game and pick up an impressive non-league road victory. Freshman Kailey Sullivan hit double digits for the third straight game, adding 14 in the win.

Mansfield, 42 vs. Westwood, 43 – Final – Despite having junior Abby Wager leave with an injury midway through the third quarter, Mansfield battled Westwood to the final minutes in a game that was back-and-forth throughout. The Hornets had a one-point lead after one, but the Wolverines tied the game at halftime. Westwood won the third quarter 10-9, and held onto that advantage to the end. Kara Santos was the top scorer for the Hornets with seven points, including seven in the first half. Wager scored nine before her injury and Rose Maher and Bridget Hanley each had five. Mansfield will face Fontbonne in the consolation round of the Hearts for Hope Tournament on Thursday at 5:30.

Oliver Ames, 61 vs. Walpole, 37 – Final – Oliver Ames built a double-digit lead by halftime and went on to turn it into a blowout win over Walpole. The Tigers, limited to just seven players in uniform, played with a lot of discipline to only have two fouls in the first. Senior Caroline Peper led the way with 19 points, four blocks, and four steals while Jasmyn Cooper added 16 points (8-for-8 free throw) and 12 rebounds in the win.

Sharon @ East Bridgewater – Postponed to TBD.

Taunton, 53 vs. Durfee, 59 – Final – Kameron St. Pierre scored a game-high 28 points, but it wasn’t enough for the Tigers in the first round of their holiday tournament. Taunton went into the break down by just four, 31-27, after St. Pierre beat the buzzer with a near half-court three. She finished the first half with 18 of her team’s 27 points. St. Pierre added 10 more in the second half, including six from the line. Braeley MacDonald chipped in with a pair of threes and eight points in the second half. Durfee’s MacKenzie Carreiro scored 16 of her team-high 23 in the second half to help the Hilltoppers hold on and advance to face North Attleboro in Wednesday’s final. Taunton will face Holliston in the consolation round.

North Attleboro, 41 vs. Holliston, 38 – Final – The Rocketeers locked down on defense, using an effective 1-2-2 press to keep Holliston’s bigs from getting touches, and earned a win in the first round of the Taunton holiday tournament. North led 16-5 after one quarter, went into halftime up by nine and was able to hold off the Panthers in the second half to reach the final. Summer Doherty gave North an offensive spark, scoring 10 of her 19 points in the opening half. Taylor McMath added eight points for the Rocketeers, who missed some chances to put the game away at the line but continued to grind on defense to keep the lead. North will face Durfee in the final on Wednesday at 7:00.

Milford, 40 vs. Norwell, 60 – Final

The Bulldogs got off to a tough start to the game, falling behind 21-8 after one quarter and never fully recovered to lose to a fellow D2 tournament contender. Hingham’s pressure defense caused Canton problems early, but Sydney Gallery knocked down a pair of threes, scoring half of her 12 points in the first. The Bulldogs played better defensively in the second, holding the Harborwomen to just seven points and cutting the lead to single digits at halftime. Erin Beatty provided a spark off the bench, grabbing double digit rebounds and hitting a three in the second. Kiara Cerruti (11 points) scored four and Fay Gallery (12 points) added a three in the second. Cerruti added four more in the third, but Hingham extended its lead by one heading to the fourth. Canton put together a fourth quarter rally that cut the lead to just three (40-37), but the visitors went on a quick 11-2 burst that put the game away. Fay Gallery added a pair of threes in the fourth.

Boys Hockey
Foxboro, 5 vs. Old Rochester, 4 – Final – Tied after each the first (1-1) and second periods (3-3), Foxboro won the third period to beat Old Rochester. Jack Watts factored into each goal for the Warriors, scoring twice and assisting on all three of the others. Matt Grace scored twice, Alex Coviello lit the lamp once, and both Tom Marcucella and Brady Callahan had an assist. Josh Marcoux recorded the win in net.

Tanner Ferguson (126), Braxton Ferro (132), and Christopher Galligan (138) all earned pins in less than a minute while Griffin Gouck (152) and Austin Dean (195) also win by pin. Jaad Ismail (170) picked up an 18-2 tech fall while heavyweight Keysun Wise took a 9-4 decision. Taunton got wins from Ryan Jones (120, 1:31), Ben Mandeville (145, 3:44), Christian Balmain (160, 6-2), Ethan Harris (182, 11-3), and Peter Ye (220, 12-5).

North Attleboro, 39 vs. Cumberland, 29 – Final – North Attleboro went 2-0 on the day, adding a win over Cumberland as well. Tanner Ferguson (126, 3:25), Christopher Galligan (138, 4:38), Griffin Gouck (152, 3:03), and Austin Dean (195, 2:35) all earned two pins on the day while Keysun Wise (285, 2:25), and Jaad Ismail (170, 7-5) both went 2-0. Greg Berthiaume (182) added a pinfall win (5:45) for the Rocketeers.

OLiver Ames Tri-Meet @ New Bedford – Oliver Ames picked up two wins on Tuesday, pinning down wins over Plymouth North (58-7) and New Bedford (42-39). Senior captains Giovany Juste (170) and Deric Lipski, Jr. (160) both went 2-0 with two pins while senior John Dobbin (138), junior Kyle Hardie (145), junior Henry Mirrione (152), and junior Jaden Hinton (285) also went 2-0. Against New Bedford, Henry Mirrione’s thrilling come-from-behind pin to win at 152 sparked the rally for the Tigers, who clinched the win over the Whalers when Jaden Hinton pinned his opponent with a quick headlock at heavyweight.

North Finds the Range, Sinks Sharon in Second Half

NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. – It is amazing how much confidence comes from watching that first shot find the bottom of the net. Once one falls, the floodgates can open, the energy picks up on defense, and a game that was slowly slipping away can turn into a comfortable win.

After scoring 10 points through the opening 21 minutes of Friday night’s game at the Pickering Gym, North Attleboro scored 30 points in the final 11 minutes, went on a 25-2 run, and held Sharon to just two points in the third quarter to pull out a 40-29 victory.

“I told them, we have to keep shooting,” North coach Nikki Correia explained. “We have to get into a rhythm. I leaned on my freshmen, all three of them, and they answered big time. They missed a couple at the beginning, but they’re starting to get into the rhythm of the game, they’re starting to figure it out a little bit, we started moving the ball a little bit better, and we started believing in our offense.”

It was a contrast in styles, as North likes to get out and run whenever possible, while the Eagles want to use clock and keep things in the half-court. For the better part of the three quarters, the visitors won the tempo battle.

Summer Doherty (team-high 13 points) nailed a three for the first basket of the game, but North only scored two more points in the first quarter. Trinity Payne (12 rebounds) got a basket on an offensive rebound and then the Eagles started to get the ball into sophomore forward Jasmine Davis.

After a 32-point, 28-rebound performance in the opening game, Davis was the focal point of the North defense, but she scored twice in the post and had six in the first. Carmen Leonardi added a layup with a nice backdoor cut and an assist from Payne.

Things slowed down even more in the second quarter. After combining for 15 points in the first, both teams found a lid on the basket after the first break, and together managed only 10.

“They want to run and I told my kids, we don’t,” said Sharon coach Sandy Lombardi. “We want to play half-court and make them play defense against us in the half-court.”

Rachael Hager (six points) buried a three and Tess Letendre’s put-back had the Eagles up 15-5. North’s comeback started with a three by freshman Sam Faria off a pass from Mandi Hanewich. Doherty then knocked down a pull-up jumper in transition to cut the lead to five.

North had momentum at the start of the third quarter, although it didn’t really feel like it. It took 4-1/2 minutes for either team to score in the second half, and it was Davis (15 points, 18 rebounds, and three blocks) scoring off a rebound to put Sharon up 17-10.

Thirty seconds later, the game flipped. After going five minutes of the third quarter without a point, North rattled off 13 points in the final 3:04 of the quarter.

Faria kicked a pass to classmate Maryellen Charette for a jumper. Then, Charette kicked out a pass to Doherty for her second three of the night. Sam Sweeney (seven points) took a kick-out pass from Taylor McMath (five points and 11 rebounds) for a corner three and North’s first lead at 18-17, then Doherty’s steal led to a Faria jumper. Sweeney hit again from downtown and suddenly North found itself up 23-17.

“Scouting reports said they want to dribble drive, so let’s see if they can hit the outside shot and they started hitting the outside shot,” Lombardi said.

Finding its scoring touch seemed to spark the effort on the defensive end as well. McMath and Charette were doing a solid job of surrounding Davis and denying the entry pass into the post. Doherty was popping up with big steals in the full-court press, and North started to play the game at the pace it prefers.

“That killed us,” Lombardi said of only scoring two points in the opening 10 minutes of the second half. “They did a great job on Jasmine inside. She still had her fair share of rebounds but they did a good job of collapsing on her and we couldn’t hit an outside shot. That was the name of the game.”

Doherty (four assists and four steals) drove baseline and dropped a pass to the opposite block to McMath for a layup plus the foul. She then grabbed a steal in the backcourt and turned it into a wide open layup that made it 30-17.

With just two points in the second half, Sharon needed a spark and finally got the ball into Davis for an easy bucket and a nice finish in the lane. Faria (11 points and four assists) answered with a pair of jumpers before Hager drilled a three to give the Eagles hope at 35-29 but with time running out.

North, which was playing without junior Ava McKeon hit its free throws in the closing minute and walked away with the win.

“Once you start making some shots they get a little bouncy,” said Correia. “I have to remind them that shots aren’t always going to fall but they still need to have that bounce or that pep in their step. I definitely think it’s because the shots started falling and they started buying into it and it took off.”

North Attleboro (1-1) will host rival Attleboro on Monday night, while Sharon (1-1) will host Taunton.

Kiara Cerruti, Senior – Canton

Heading into her senior season, Cerruti has developed into one of the league’s most consistent scorers. With the ability to either step out and knock down threes or take defenders off the dribble, Cerruti is a tough matchup for any team. Her size and strength allows her to take smaller players into the paint or shoot over them on the outside, but her versatility makes it difficult to guard her on the perimeter with bigger forwards. An increasingly effective defender, with quick hands, and a solid rebounder, Cerruti has become a strong all-around player who can be counted on at both ends of the court. Canton’s leading scorer each of the past three seasons, Cerruti’s return gives the Bulldogs a solid foundation as this talented senior class looks to live up to its potential by competing for a league title as well as putting together its first tournament run.

2021-2022 Girls Basketball Players to Watch

Emily Croteau, Junior – Milford

Croteau brings a different level of energy to the floor and it lifts the rest of her team. The type of player that doesn’t have one defining skill, Croteau does a lot of things really well and is willing to do all of the little things, the dirty work, that helps the Hawks compete on a nightly basis. Never shy about getting involved in physical battles in the paint, Croteau is a strong rebounder on both ends of the floor, her aggressiveness particularly noticeable on the offensive end keeping possessions alive. An improving shooter, Croteau is best near the basket causing havoc or racing to get out on the break. Effort is never an issue for Milford, and Croteau leads the way on the defensive end, guarding multiple positions regardless of whether she is undersized in the post. The Hawks will be hoping to be more competitive overall this season and Croteau’s the type of player they can count on to be up for the challenge.










2021-2022 Girls Basketball Players to Watch

Summer Doherty, Senior – North Attleboro

Doherty has the chance to be a breakout star for the Rocketeers this season, as the senior winger is a strong player on the ball and in transition, who is a perfect fit for head coach Nikki Correia’s up-tempo style of play. A physical presence on both ends of the floor, Doherty isn’t a subtle player and always seems to have her eyes on the rim and, when she puts her head down to drive, is difficult to keep out of the lane. Capable of finishing in traffic, and not one to shy away from contact, Doherty has improved as an outside shooter and passer, making it tougher for defenses to sit off her. North will be trying to fight for a playoff spot this season and Doherty, the team’s top returning scorer, will be one of the key players to help the Rocketeers make that push for the tournament berth.

Erin Foley, Sophomore – Foxboro

There is a changing of the guard at Foxboro this winter after the graduation of Kaitlyn Mollica and, as usual, the Warriors seem to have a ready-made replacement stepping in. Foley impressed right from the opening night of last season, showing off her range from the outside, her quickness taking the ball to the basket, and the tenacity that was on full display this fall on the soccer pitch. The lefty guard averaged nine points a game as a freshman and will be the Warriors’ top returning scorer. Expect her to get more time on the ball and more scoring opportunities this winter as Foxboro will need someone to replace Mollica’s ball-handling duties. Foley’s energy and physical play also fits into head coach Lisa Downs’ typical high-paced, aggressive style. Foxboro seemed to be playing its best at the end of last year, so expectations are for the Warriors to build on that experience to compete in the Davenport and D2 this season.




2021-2022 Girls Basketball Players to Watch

Meghan Gordon, Senior – Attleboro

Gordon is a great example of a player that has improved with every season and heads into her senior year as one of the league’s top two-way forwards. Long and athletic, Gordon started out two years ago as a dynamic rebounder, who scored most of her points by crashing the boards, but showed a more complete game last season, taking players off the dribble and knocking down shots from the outside. As she adds more facets to her game, Gordon has become one of the toughest covers in the Hock. The Southern New Hampshire-commit is also a difficult matchup on the defensive end where she gives the Bombardiers a rim protector and someone to guard the passing lanes. The league’s second-leading scorer last year (16.5 points per game), Gordon comes into this winter with a lot of momentum and will be hoping to lead the Bombardiers to another tournament berth under new head coach (and former player) Bri Bracken.

2021-2022 Girls Basketball Players to Watch

Caroline Peper, Senior – Oliver Ames

One of the league’s top outside threats for the past three seasons, a healthy Peper will get another chance to help the Tigers make a deep tournament run, as the defending Davenport champions look to again be one of the league’s deepest teams. Peper’s high, quick release makes her shot very difficult to challenge on the perimeter and she can get that shot off in the halfcourt or by pulling up off the dribble in transition. More than just a shooter, Peper has developed a strong handle and her size and length allows her to finish well around the rim, even in traffic. She is increasingly able to play through contact against aggressive defenders and has turned into a solid passer off the dribble, which could be key as she takes on more of the ball-handling duties this winter. Peper has also improved on the defensive side with her versatility and quickness allowing her to guard multiple positions. Her increased strength means that she can guard in the post when needed and crash the boards to help out OA’s forwards. After missing out on a chance at a playoff appearance last season, the Tigers will be itching for the chance to defend its league title and take on the statewide tournament this winter and Peper will be the leader of a deep, talented roster.

Olivia Quinn, Senior – Franklin

The Wesleyan-commit followed up her breakout sophomore season with a dominant, albeit shortened, junior year. Quinn was third in the league in scoring last year with more than 16 points per game and helped Franklin extend its win streak to 35 games. She can stretch the floor as a consistent three-point shooter, use her quick first step and good handle to get to the basket, and also take advantage of her size to score in the paint. Not only is Quinn a dynamic offensive threat, but also has the size and speed to guard multiple positions at the other end or play multiple spots in the Franklin press. The Panthers don’t lack size in the forward position, and Quinn’s versatility on the perimeter means that teams will struggle to match up when Franklin spreads the floor. Quinn is one of the preseason favorites for MVP and her continued development as one of the league’s top players is the reason that the Panthers remain the team to beat in the Kelley-Rex.




Emily Sawyer, Junior – King Philip

Three years ago, Sawyer made her KP debut with the difficult task of guarding Ali Brigham and now she enters her junior season as the player capable of being the league’s dominant paint presence. After two years in a proudly chaotic, high-pressure, high-speed system, Sawyer will be in a very different system this season under new head coach Jeff Miszkiewicz that could better fit the 6-foot-3 center’s skill set. A strong rebounder and a creative player around the rim, Sawyer will give KP a scoring threat in the post and someone that will draw defenders off the outside shooters. Defensively, Sawyer’s size makes her an obvious weapon around the rim, whether blocking shots or just giving opponents something extra to think about when they get in the paint. Sawyer’s presence allows the guards to be aggressive on the perimeter knowing they have her protecting the net. The Warriors had a unique style the past couple seasons, but this may be an opportunity for Sawyer to have a breakout winter.

2021-2022 Girls Basketball Players to Watch

Kameron St. Pierre, Junior – Taunton

St. Pierre had an impressive rookie campaign, breaking onto the scene and averaging more than 14 points per game as a freshman in the 2019-20 season. After sitting out last year’s COVID-shortened season, St. Pierre will be back for the Tigers this winter looking to build on the experience of two years ago and help Taunton push for a playoff spot. The quick and confident lefty has plenty of range and is never afraid to look for her shot regardless of the distance. Her speed and skills with the ball allow her to create driving lanes. A creative finisher in the lane, St. Pierre also draws a lot of attention from the opposition, which gives her teammates more open looks on the perimeter. After a year off, it will be interesting to see what St. Pierre has added to her game on both ends of the floor, but her scoring punch should be a big boost for a Taunton team looking to make some noise in its third year (and second season) under head coach Amy Siggens.

2021-2022 Girls Basketball Players to Watch

Abby Wager, Junior – Mansfield

During Mansfield’s impressive run at the end of last season, winning its final five games, Wager emerged as a wing who can impact the game at both ends of the floor. After a solid rookie season, last winter was a breakout campaign for Wager, a quick, lanky winger who is a terror when she is able to get out in transition. A strong defender, who uses her long arms in one-on-one situations and in passing lanes, Wager has the speed to break out of the pack with the ball and the ability to finish at the rim. An improving shooter, Wager’s strength in the halfcourt is taking players off the dribble and being able to finish through contact. She is also a strong passer and ballhandler, who can take some of the responsibility off Mansfield’s guards when facing pressure. As Wager continues to develop her outside shooting, it will make it tougher for teams to contain her on the perimeter but she creates havoc by getting into the paint and drawing defenders. The Hornets will be hoping she continues to grow her game and they can continue improving to challenge Franklin’s reign in the Kelley-Rex.

2021-2022 Hockomock Girls Basketball Preview

Attleboro

2020-2021 Record: 9-4
Coach: Brianna Bracken
Attleboro finished second in the Kelley-Rex division last year and, despite only returning one starter, have an experienced corps that will be looking to push the Bombardiers back to postseason contention this season. There was a big change a few weeks ago when Marty Crowley stepped down as coach (after taking the athletic director job at Cumberland High) and former player and freshman coach Brianna Bracken was promoted to take over.

The change in coach won’t change the emphasis on defense and trying to use the roster’s athleticism to get easy baskets in transition. Attleboro’s lone returning starter is senior forward Meghan Gordon, who has improved every season on varsity and averaged nearly 17 points per game last year. Gordon will get help from classmates Lindsey Perry and Lillian Froio, who have both improved offensively and will help the Bombardiers take some of the pressure off Gordon on that end of the floor.

Injuries and transfers will have an impact as well. Senior Hailey Perry suffered a knee injury that will keep her out and last year’s freshman point guard Narissa Smith transferred to Rivers. Junior Lily Routhier has transferred in this year from Wheeler School and will help out on the boards. Sophomores Kayla Goldrick and Rylie Camacho will add to the Attleboro attack after getting experience as freshmen and senior Avery Vieira and sophomore Sarah Maher will try to fill Perry’s role in the backcourt. Sophomore Merry Bosh and Molly Moore and freshman Vanessa Ellis have had impressive preseasons as well.

“We have a great mix of experience and youth,” said Bracken. “We are excited about what lies ahead. Practices have been intense and the kids have been working really hard.” 

Canton

2020-2021 Record: 7-5
Coach: James Choquette
Canton could be poised for a big season with a mix of talented underclassmen and an experienced group of seniors who have played together on varsity for four years. The Bulldogs went 7-5 in the shortened 2020-21 season, but expectations are higher this winter, with hopes of challenging the top teams in the Davenport and putting together a playoff run.

Kiara Cerrutiis the team’s top returning scorer and the senior winger will be counted on to provide scoring punch with her mix of inside-outside skills. Fay Gallery is back to run the point for the Bulldogs, getting the team out in transition and finding ways to create good looks for teammates in the halfcourt. Sydney Gallery is also back to give Canton a strong post presence and scoring inside the arc. The three players combined to average 38 points per game last season and give the Bulldogs a strong foundation to build on and help spread the floor for a team that has the potential to be one of the top shooting teams in the league.

Marissa Staffiere and Carly Fitzgerald return to help run the point and give strong defensive effort in the backcourt and junior Samya DaSilva has stepped in to add another versatile weapon on the offensive end. If the Bulldogs can continue to improve defensively, they have the firepower to compete with anyone. Offensively, it will be about ball movement and making sure the ball doesn’t stick on the perimeter.

“Our program continues to grow and improve,” said Canton coach Jim Choquette. “With a strong senior class and a great group of underclassmen, we hope to improve each day we’re in the gym together and achieve the results we desire. Everyone knows how hard it is to win, but this group is willing to do whatever it takes and we’re so excited to see how this season unfolds.”

Foxboro

2020-2021 Record: 9-2
Coach: Lisa Downs
Foxboro had its four-year reign at the top of the Davenport division come to an end last season, as the Warriors came second to Oliver Ames. With a relatively young roster, Foxboro improved over the course of the shortened season and seemed to be peaking as it headed into what would have been the second half of a normal winter. The hope for this season is that those younger players will build on that experience to make another title challenge and playoff run.

With the graduation of the league’s leading scorer, Katelyn Mollica, the Warriors will have a lot of points to make up but have several players capable of taking on bigger roles this year. Senior forward Hannah Blake could help provide some of that scoring with her solid post-up game and mid-range jumper. Sophomore guards Erin Foley and Camryn Collins both had impressive rookie campaigns and showed versatile offensive games and both are aggressive and athletic defenders, who fit into Foxboro’s typical style.

Senior Andrea Slattery and junior Lauren Miley are under-sized forwards but both bring a lot of energy and aggression to the defensive end and hitting the glass. Freshmen Kaley Sullivan and Ava Hill will jump right into the varsity lineup this season and both could be ready to make instant impacts. Juniors Michelle Brandt and Maddie Maher and sophomore Isabelle Chamberlin will give the Warriors plenty of depth to call on this season, especially with their effort on the defensive end.

“Although we are young and have new faces, I am excited to see the potential and look forward to seeing the improvement every time they step onto the court,” said Foxboro coach Lisa Downs.







2021-2022 Hockomock Girls Basketball Preview

Franklin

2020-2021 Record: 10-0
Coach: John Leighton
Franklin returns eight players, including six seniors, from last year’s team, which extended the Panthers’ win streak to 35 games and clinched a third straight Kelley-Rex division title. The Panthers will be leaning on that experience as they seek to continue their reign at the top of the league and defend the Div. 1 state title that they won in 2019-20.

Senior forward Olivia Quinn will be the focal point of the Franklin offense this year after leading the team in scoring last winter and emerging as one of the top players in the Hock over the past two years. The reigning Kelley-Rex MVP will have plenty of help, particularly in the paint. While Franklin doesn’t have someone with Ali Brigham’s size, the Panthers have seven players on their roster that are listed at 5-foot-9 or taller. Senior Brigid Earley was the team’s leading rebounder last year and junior Katie Peterson is an athletic forward with a versatile game. Senior Emma Sousa is another experienced forward that gives depth in the post.

On the perimeter, Franklin has graduated a lot of its ball-handlers and shooters but senior Stefany Padula, a Springfield College-commit, is back and will help stretch the floor. Junior Bridget Leo is coming off a strong soccer season and could step in at point guard along with seniors Julia White and Jessica Pingeton, who saw some time last year. Sophomore guard Sasha Tracey is the lone underclassman on the roster this season.

“I am very excited to get back on the court with this team,” said Franklin coach John Leighton. “There is a lot of work ahead of us but there has also been many glimpses of what we could develop into. We have a very strong senior class who has set the bar high for the team. We hope to develop into a close-knit, supportive team that can win in different ways and also play defense that will limit our opponents’ options.”

King Philip

2020-2021 Record: 5-6
Coach: Jeff Miszkiewicz
There is going to be a transition period for King Philip this season, as the Warriors will be moving from former head coach Dan Nagle’s unique, non-stop pressure, quick-shot system to a new system brought in by first-year coach Jeff Miszkiewicz (who comes from LaSalle Academy in Rhode Island). With seven returning players, including five seniors, the Warriors should have the experience to adjust to the new style and be in the mix in the Kelley-Rex division.

Junior Emily Sawyer will be a major weapon for the Warriors on both ends of the floor. The 6-foot-3 center may be the biggest beneficiary of a change in system and is poised for a breakout year in the paint. Her classmate Jackie Bonner will move into a starting role this season, with her ability to create instant offense and be a pest on the defensive side of the game.

Seniors Liv Lafond, Julia Marsden, and Elizabeth Molla also project to be starters for the Warriors this season. All three are versatile wings that can space the floor and attack in transition. Lafond may be the best off-the-dribble player for KP this season and her ability to get into the paint and create will be key. Marsden is a smart player who always seems to be in the right spot and a solid scorer at the rim or out on the perimeter. Molla is a knockdown shooter from the outside and can punish teams that sink down into the paint to guard Sawyer or prevent driving lanes.

“The team plays really hard and is very coachable,” said Miszkiewicz. “I think that’s why we have seen so much improvement over the first week of practice. You’ll see us take full advantage of our athleticism on both offense and defense. We’re going to be a fun team to watch.”

2021-2022 Hockomock Girls Basketball Preview

Mansfield

2020-2021 Record: 9-4
Coach: Heather McPherson
Mansfield closed out the shortened 2020-21 season with five straight wins and will hope to keep that momentum rolling into this winter, although the Hornets will need a lot of players to step into bigger roles. Six seniors graduated from last year’s team, including the bulk of the team’s frontcourt and two of its three leading scorers. New players will need the early part of the season to adjust to the pace of the varsity level.

The Hornets will be hoping that junior guard Abby Wager’s growing offensive game will allow her to improve on the nine points per game she averaged as a sophomore. Senior Anna Darlington brings tenacity on defense and will make it tough for teams to get into their half court sets. Seniors Kayla Doherty and Sophia Allen will also need to add experience to a lineup that is growing into the season.

Junior guard Olivia Salisbury and sophomore forward Kara Santos are going to be stepping up from utility roles into core pieces of the Mansfield offense this season. Salisbury has good vision and can create chances for teammates, while Santos will be a threat in the paint, making up for some of the size that graduated from last year’s team.

“After a shortened season under my belt I feel confident in the adjustments that the girls have made into a slightly different system than previous years,” said second-year Mansfield coach Heather McPherson. “We are emphasizing good fundamental defense and hoping that we can use it to create transition offense.”




Milford

2020-2021 Record: 3-8
Coach: TJ Dolliver
Milford ended last season with three wins in its final five games, building a little momentum that the Hawks are going to hope can get them off to a good start this winter. There will be a lot of changes from last year’s squad, as Milford graduated seven players, including a few four-year members of the team, so there may be some growing pains as new faces adjust to a new level.

Four seniors return to add experience and leadership to this year’s team. Guards Jess Douglas, Olivia Morelli, and Aubrey Korpi, and forward Jill Araujo are all back and will give Milford a foundation to build around. With so many new faces in the team this year, head coach TJ Dolliver will be leaning on his upperclassmen to help the younger players adjust, as the coaches work through the best way to utilize everyone’s skills on the court.

Junior forward Emily Croteau and guard Brooke Ferreira will be key players as well. The team’s top two returning scorers, Croteau and Ferreira will have to take on bigger roles this year and may be asked to carry a lot of the scoring punch. A three-year starter at point guard, Ferreira is the team’s top ball-handler and will be expected to get the Hawks into their sets while also looking for her own shot. An undersized forward, Croteau gives the team energy and rebounding, keeping possessions alive and getting chances thanks to her work rate.

“We are making a lot of changes this season,” Dolliver said. “It will be very important how we approach practice in regards to how successful we are this season. We have a lot of potential and I am excited to see where it goes.”

2021-2022 Hockomock Girls Basketball Preview

North Attleboro

2020-2021 Record: 4-9
Coach: Nikki Correia
North Attleboro had a tough finish to the 2020-21 season, losing five straight to close it out, but all five were against teams with winning records, including two against division champ Oliver Ames. With a full season ahead, North has two of its top scorers back and has added more size in the frontcourt to try and make a postseason push.

The two key returning players will be senior Summer Doherty and junior Ava McKeon. The two aggressive guards give North extra energy on both ends of the floor and push the Rocketeers into the transition game that head coach Nikki Correia prefers. Their defensive effort will be critical for North this season. Senior forward Taylor McMath has improved each year and adds scoring in the paint and is an aggressive rebounder on both ends.

Size hasn’t been a strength for North the past few seasons but freshman Maryellen Charette will be an important addition in the paint. Despite being just a rookie, Charette has shown good footwork with back to the basket and is a strong rebounder. Sam Sweeney is the other freshman on the roster, while North has seven seniors on the roster to provide necessary experience for the younger players.

“I am looking forward to this season with a full schedule and many returning players, so lots of familiarity with each other and playing more under control and trusting each other more,” said Correia. “They are already showing more confidence and being in the right spots, running the offense, and letting the game come to them instead of forcing it.”

Oliver Ames

2020-2021 Record: 10-0
Coach: Laney Clement-Holbrook
Oliver Ames finished unbeaten and won the Davenport division title last season, but the Tigers will be disappointed to have missed out on a potentially deep tournament run. Coming into this year, expectations remain high with a good mix of experienced players and youth that will be getting their first taste of a full Hockomock League campaign.

Senior guard Caroline Peper is a four-year starter for the Tigers and has always been one of the league’s top long-range shooters, but continues adding to her game and her scoring will be critical. Senior Hailey Bourne is another four-year regular and one of the top defensive players in the league, capable of guarding multiple positions. Their leadership will be a key to OA’s success this winter. Senior forward Anna Murphy has improved each year and has a solid all-around game, making an impact on both ends of the floor, and junior guard Maddie Homer is a quick, tenacious defender and her improved offensive game will be important.

In addition to the more experienced players, OA is excited about the potential of the trio of sophomores who made cameos last year. Forwards Jasmyn Cooper, Kaydance Derba, and Sarah Hilliard all had good rookie seasons that gave a taste of their capabilities. Cooper and Hilliard provide size and scoring in the paint and both are excellent rebounders. Derba also has good size to be a tough matchup on the defensive end and is a dangerous three-point shooter who can stretch the floor.

“The Hockomock League, as always brings its share of tough competition, which will help us better prepare for the new standards established for the power rankings needed for the state tournament,” said OA coach Laney Clement-Holbrook. “The thing that I am most proud of is the fact that my players have worked tirelessly to improve themselves as players and we are ready to give it our best fight.”




2021-2022 Hockomock Girls Basketball Preview

Sharon

2020-2021 Record: 1-10
Coach: Sandy Lombardi
It is hard to predict what type of season this will be for Sharon because the Eagles will be incorporating so many new faces and many of the players will be experiencing their first full season on varsity. After one win in 2020-21, the Eagles return only one senior on this year’s roster, so there is the potential to spring a few surprises on teams this season.

Trinity Payne is the lone senior for the Eagles. The four-year varsity player is a strong defensive presence and can control the glass, especially on the defensive end. Sharon coach Sandy Lombardi is looking for more offensive punch from Payne this season. Junior point guard Tess Lentendre returns after missing a few games last winter. A leader in the backcourt, Letendre is a three-year varsity player and will help control things on the offensive end.

The rest of the starting five for Sharon will be sophomores. Rachel Hager and Eva Poulton both saw time on varsity last season and play out on the wings. Jasmine Davis didn’t play last year but will start at center and should give Sharon extra size in the middle and should be a force on both ends of the court. Junior forward Emily Freeman is back from last year, but the rest of the Sharon roster are newcomers to the varsity team, although Lombardi is expecting good contributions from the bench.

“The girls have been working hard,” Lombardi said. “We are excited for the season and hopefully we can make some noise in the Hock this year.”

Stoughton

2020-2021 Record: 1-9
Coach: Charmaine Steele Jordan
Last year was a little bit of a transition season for Stoughton, as the Black Knights graduated a lot from a team that was a win away from tournament qualification. An inexperienced Stoughton roster had some growing pains in 2020-21, but with five seniors this year head coach Charmaine Steele Jordan is hoping that last year will set a foundation for this year’s team to build on.

Senior Jess Maddalena is an important returning player for Stoughton. After missing her junior season to an injury, Maddalena will give the Black Knights additional scoring and depth on the wing. Senior guard Kate Bulger will be back to run the offense and provide strong perimeter defense. Senior Vanessa Philemond adds athleticism, energy, and rebounding and her length can be a weapon on both ends of the floor.

In addition to their three captains, the Black Knights will also be hoping for big seasons and lots of leadership from senior guards Makaiyah Singleton Rivera and Evie Lam. Stoughton also has three sophomores, Katrina Varnum, Alyssa Edwards, and Maiya Merritt, and freshman Raina Tat, who will be handling their first full season of varsity basketball this season.

“It’s so good to be back on the hardwood to compete this season,” said Steele Jordan. “We will continue to play hard on both ends of the court this season. I am looking forward to the five seniors taking charge and setting the pace for us. We will play tough, be gritty, and battle until the final buzzer sounds each night in the Hock.”

Taunton

2020-2021 Record: 0-10
Coach: Amy Siggens
Taunton coach Amy Siggens is in her third year in charge of the program (and second season on the sidelines after not coaching last winter) and she will have a very different looking roster to the one that she first inherited. The Tigers graduated six seniors from last year’s team and there will be a lot of untested players getting their first taste of varsity action this season.

There is excitement about the return of junior guard Kameron St. Pierre. After a breakout rookie season in which she averaged more than 14 points per game, St. Pierre sat out last winter and will be back to carry a heavy load for the Taunton offense. The lefty point guard will get the Tigers into their sets and her long-range shooting should open the floor for teammates.

In addition to St. Pierre, the Tigers will have a host of guards to rotate through. Seniors Braeley McDonald, Kyanna Barros, and Abby Souza will give the Tigers plenty of energy on both ends of the floor and could benefit from the attention paid to St. Pierre to get decent looks from the perimeter. Sophomores Cali Melo and Lexi Haywood also have experience at the varsity level. Inside, Taunton will have several new faces but senior forward Olivia Gannon and junior Sayla DePina bring some size in the paint.

“As we look toward the beginning of this basketball season, caution and patience are the words that ring true for us,” said Siggens. “Baptism under fire is an appropriate description for our girls this season but with enthusiasm, hard work, and a commitment to improving, we have a chance to be competitive in a typically demanding Hockomock League.”
