Attleboro Overcomes Early Deficit, Wins Playoff Opener

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – The game was barely underway and Methuen was on its first attack when out of nowhere the ball ended up behind Attleboro goalie Siany Ortez. Before some of the home fans had settled into the bleachers, the Bombardiers were trailing Thursday afternoon’s Div.1 play-in game at Tozier-Cassidy Field.

Despite falling behind inside of the first minute of the game, Attleboro never let its energy level drop and quickly took control. The Bombardiers scored twice in less than a minute to take the lead after one quarter and added an important insurance goal in the fourth to pull out a come-from-behind 3-1 win and advance to face top seed Walpole.

“We sometimes do start a little slow,” admitted Attleboro coach Jessica Pink. “It takes them a minute to get their feet on the ground and running and going. I thought about calling a timeout, but I didn’t want to waste it so early on. They know that they needed to regroup and they did just that.”

She added, “It’s always hard when you’re sitting, trailing, especially because it’s not like a regular season game where you’re trailing and if you lose it’s a bummer but you have the next one. Coming back from a goal so early is tough, so the fact that they were able to get two at the end of the quarter was such a game-changer.”

The Rangers took the opening face-off and immediately went on the attack down the left wing. Charlotte Putnam battled her way to the end line, created a little bit of space, and rifled a ball across the face of goal. Kylee Henriquez was able to find a pocket of room where she could settle the pass, turn, and fire shot under Ortez.

Attleboro looked stunned, but was able to recover quickly. By the time play resumed, the Bombardiers were on the front foot and hardly let up for the remaining 59 minutes.

Only seconds after getting the ball, Marley Young was on the run down the right wing and forced a save out of Methuen goalie Alexandra Tardugno. Young was a constant menace in the right channel and she split a pair of defenders to get room for another cross, which was tipped wide of the far post by Mackenzie Cooper.

With six minutes left in the half, Attleboro earned its first corner of the game. The Bombardiers turned that opportunity into a tying goal. Young played the corner out to Alyvia Bessette, who played it down the wing to Jordan Mooney. The senior midfielder cut the ball back into Siobhan Landers, who was cutting down the middle, and she smacked it first-time to find the back of the net.

Just 38 seconds later, Attleboro was in front. Landers created the scoring chance with a good run through the midfield. She played a pass out to Bessette on the right wing and she was able to cut the ball back to Young in the middle for a transition goal that turned out to be the winner.

“That goal and our second one is our tournament team,” said Pink. “I know that’s how we’re capable of playing. I knew once they got there, it would be good and the momentum really did shift. We were really connecting and the girls made it happen.”

Attleboro was flying and nearly scored seconds before the end of the quarter. Landers played the ball to the top of the crease, but Mooney smacked it through a crowd with no touch. Just a minute into the second, Young again managed to slip through a crowd but her shot went off the side of the net.

Midway through the quarter, Landers had a bast from straight away but Tardugno kicked it aside. Bessette and Young pressed from the top, forcing a turnover but again the Methuen goalie was equal to it.

The Attleboro defense of Kelsey Hodson, Meghan Ferreira, Victoria Westwater, and Paige Parenteau was largely untroubled, cutting out Methuen attacks well before they got close to Ortez, but in the closing two minutes of the half the Rangers finally got a look at goal. Vanessa Fritschy had a go from high on the right side that went wide and Ortez was quick to get down and block a chance at the post off a corner. It was one of only two saves the Attleboro goalie was called on to make.

On the other end of the field, Tardugno was doing everything in her power to keep the Rangers in the game. She made six of her 15 saves in the third quarter alone. Landers set up Young for a shot from a good angle on the right that was kicked away, then Mooney found Young in space in front but Tardugno stopped that and the rebound effort from Stella Krawiec.

With no time on the clock, Landers nearly converted another corner only to have the goalie rob her from close range again.

“Methuen’s goalie is phenomenal,” said Pink. “We probably had 20 shots in the third and fourth quarters and she only let one in. It was nice to see that we were able to capitalize and get up there over and over again.”

Attleboro continued to press for the goal that would seal the win. The Bombardiers had six corners in the fourth (and held a 12-4 advantage for the game). Mooney and Bessette played a nice one-two off one of the corners, which opened up a shot for Young only for Tardugno to make the save.

Just when it looked like the Methuen goalie might just allow her team to find its way back into the match, Attleboro finally found a third. Landers played it to Mooney, who fired it into the mix in front and Young was in the right place to get the necessary tip and find the back of the net.

So, now Attleboro (8-11) moves into the Round of 32 and its reward is a trip to top seed Walpole, which reached the state final a year ago. While it is obviously a daunting task, Attleboro is excited about the challenge.

“Our league has been so tough and we’ve opportunities to really challenge ourselves,” Pink explained. “They want to play the best because at the end of the day it’s going to make them better and I think that’s their mindset going into it. We’re going to put it all on the line.”

Franklin, 1 @ Attleboro, 0 – Final – Franklin converted a penalty kick 15 minutes into the second half to get a win on the road over Attleboro and clinch the Kelley-Rex division title. An unlucky hand ball on a service into the area from Noah Cain gave the visitors a chance from the spot. Senior Trey Lovell stepped up and buried a low shot for the only goal of the game.

Canton, 5 @ Foxboro, 0 – Final

King Philip, 0 @ North Attleboro, 2 – Final – North Attleboro scored once in each half to record a win at home over visiting King Philip. Givany Carney found Zach Smahi at the top of the box and he deposited his shot into the back of the net just five minutes into the game for a 1-0 advantage. Smahi returned the favor in the second half, setting up Carney at the 50th minute mark to double the hosts’ advantage. Cole Templin had some big saves for North Attleboro to keep the Warriors off the board. “I’m extremely proud of the effort from all of the seniors tonight,” said North Attleboro head coach Mike Lacasse.

Mansfield, 2 @ Stoughton, 2 – Final – A back-and-forth battle ended in a 2-2 draw with each side taking a point. Senior Matheus Groberio blasted a free kick into the back of the net from just outside the area to give the hosts the lead but just two minutes later Connor Palinski finished off a cross to bring the Hornets level. Mansfield carried that momentum and scored again less than 10 minutes after tying it as Dan Checkoway headed in a corner kick from Grady Sullivan. Stoughton came back and found the equalizer before the break as Groberio set up Sam Santos to make it 2-2. Mansfield freshman goalie Troy Lasbury-Casey made 13 saves and played well in his first career start.

Milford, 4 @ Taunton, 0 – Final – The Scarlet Hawks deposited a pair of goals in each half to return home with two points via a 4-0 win over Taunton. Eduardo Santana opened the scoring, running onto a long ball from Nate Dinis and poking it past the keeper to make it 1-0. Rodrigo Lourenço drew a foul with clever dribbling and Lucas Nalon Ribero buried the free kick to double the lead going into the half. Ribero grabbed his second of the day, blasting a rocket of a shot from 40 yards away to make it 3-0. Kaua Pereira capped the scoring for the Hawks, finishing off a corner from Lourenço.

Sharon, 0 @ Oliver Ames, 1 – Final – Oliver Ames broke the stalemate midway through the second half to get a win at home over visiting Sharon. Senior Mirray DaSilva converted a pass from Joey Carney in the 60th minute for the lone goal of the game.








Girls Soccer
Attleboro, 1 @ Franklin, 4 – Final – Anya Zub’s hat trick pushed the Panthers to a big home win and maintained their lead at the top of the Kelley-Rex. Selene Hammad opened the scoring for Franklin just two minutes into the game, with Zub picking up the assist. Zub would score the next three goals. Kelly O’Connor, Olivia Costa, and Hammad had the assists. Jamie Davies added a late goal for the Bombardiers, converting a penalty after Tatum O’Brien’s nice run into the box drew a foul. Alexis Campbell made double digit saves in the loss.

Foxboro, 1 @ Canton, 2 – Final – After Foxboro battled back to tie the game, Mekhala Costello’s second half goal lifted Canton to the win and kept the Bulldogs within two points of league-leading OA heading into the final game of the regular season. Canton grabbed the lead in a first half that was delayed by lightning. Foxboro answered back three minutes into the second half. Grace Riley got the equalizer off a Shea Dorney corner. Costello found the winner with a blast from distance to secure two points.

North Attleboro, 0 @ King Philip, 3 – Final – Mikayla Thompson scored twice and Heidi Lawrence and Ella Pisani each recorded two points to keep the Warriors in the league title mix with one match remaining. KP sits just a point back of Franklin in the division. Lawrence opened the scoring for KP when she took a nice pass from Pisani and lifted it over the keeper. Pisani also had the helper on KP’s second goal four minutes later, putting in a perfect cross for Thompson to tap home from close-range. Thompson would add KP’s third in the second half, this time getting a toe to a cross from Lawrence.

Stoughton, 0 @ Mansfield, 2 – Final – Olivia Salisbury set a new school record with her 30th career clean sheet (ninth of the season), as Mansfield continued its impressive run. The Hornets have gone 11 games without a loss and picked up a sixth straight win. Avery Hawthorne made it three straight games with a goal, scoring what turned out to be the winner 10 minutes into the second half. Bridget Hanley’s ball over the top set up the goal. Mansfield added a second just two minutes later when Lyla Nappa scored off a cross from Olivia Dunham.

Taunton, 1 @ Milford, 6 – Final – Milford celebrated senior night with its biggest win of the season. Dani Atherton scored a brace to the lead the way for the Hawks, who scored four unanswered in the second half to break open a close game. Kaylee Whitney, Serena Borges, Paige Caldon, and Ava Baglione each scored once for Milford and Kayleigh Tourtellot had a solid game in goal. Juliana Matos had the lone goal for the Tigers.

Oliver Ames, 6 @ Sharon, 2 – Final – Emma Gavin recorded three goals and Lucinda Li Cotter had four points (two goals and two assists) to lift the Tigers to a win in a back-and-forth game in the rain at Sharon. With the win, OA kept hold of a two-point lead on Mansfield and Canton going into the final match of the regular season. Jolie Diaz added a goal and Jenna Gilman had a pair of assists for the visitors. Sharon battled back two get within two twice, Autumn Simon finishing with a brace. Sofia Goclowski and Jessica Li had the assists. Taylor Standring had a strong game in net for the Eagles.




Field Hockey
Attleboro, 0 @ Franklin, 5 – Final – Attleboro kept it close, trailing just 2-0 at halftime, but Franklin scored a late goal in the third quarter and two more early in the fourth to pull away for the win. After a scoreless first quarter, Emily Carney scored three minutes into the second (from Kaitlyn Carney and Sophia Cuneo) and then again with under a minute to play until halftime (from Haley Wernig and Cuneo). Payten Crandell (from Kaitlyn Carney) pushed the Panthers’ lead to 3-0 with just over a minute to play in the third, and both Wernig and Kaitlyn Carney scored inside the first five minutes to make it 5-0. Siany Ortez made 10 saves in net for the Bombardiers.

Stoughton, 0 @ Mansfield, 6 – Final – Mansfield scored two goals in each the first and third quarters and tacked on one each in the second and fourth quarters to get a win over Stoughton. Ava Adams opened the scoring and Danni Cuzzi scored back-to-back goals, one in the first quarter and one in the second to give the Hornets a 3-0 lead at halftime. Adams grabbed her second in the third, Kristina Kipp made it 5-0 in the third quarter, and Adams completed her hat trick with the lone goal of the fourth.

Taunton, 3 @ Milford, 0 – Final – Kaysie DeMoura scored a pair of goals to lead the Tigers to a shutout win on the road at Milford. Caelen O’Leary added one goal to go along with DeMoura’s two while Jasmine Lucier made three saves in net for the shutout.

Oliver Ames @ Sharon – Postponed to Tuesday, 10/25 at 3:30.

Foxboro, 1 @ Canton, 1 – Final – Click here for a photo gallery of this game. – Mary Collins scored midway through the fourth quarter to cancel out Maggie McCready’s opener and send both times home with a point. The first half was a defensive struggle, with Foxboro having the only shot on net in the opening 30 minutes. Canton turned things around in the third, dominating the quarter and breaking the deadlock. Carolyn Schiavo created space on the right side and fired a shot that Kathryn Ferguson needed to save. The rebound sat in the crease for a couple seconds before McCready pounced to knock it home. Foxboro took control of play in the fourth. Carolyn Durand made a series of good saves but eventually Mya Waryas’ shot from distance was tipped in the circle by Collins. The ball caromed out from the back of the net, causing confusion, but after a discussion between the officials the goal was given.




Volleyball
North Attleboro, 0 @ King Philip, 3 – Final – King Philip landed a dominate win at home, and along with Franklin’s win over Attleboro, the Warriors moved back into a first place tie atop the Kelley-Rex division with one match to go. Emily Sawyer landed 10 kills along with seven aces and three blocks to lead the Warriors to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-7, 25-11) win over the Rocketeers. Sami Shore (three aces) and Ahunna James (five digs) each added seven kills while Olivia O’Neil finished with four kills and two aces.

Oliver Ames, 3 @ Sharon, 1 – Final – Junior Claire O’Rourke had a big day at the net to help Oliver Ames shake off a close loss in the third set and finish off the win, 3-1 (25-17, 25-19, 24-26, 25-15). O’Rourke notched 13 kills while Sarah Hilliard added 12 kills to lead the offense. Maddie Homer had 16 digs and six aces, Clare Kavolius recorded 35 assists and five aces, and Cecelia Cupples had a strong game at the net.

Foxboro, 2 @ Canton, 3 – Final – Canton rallied from a 2-1 deficit to stay alive and force a fifth set and then outlasted visiting Foxboro to get the win, 3-2 (20-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-22, 15-9). Jess Wright had an efficient night at the net, hitting 0.425 with 19 kills while Liana Lamparelli added 13 digs, three kills, and three blocks for the Bulldogs. Seniors Haley Duhaime, Nevaeh Osborne, Liz Beal and Riley Costa played well in the five set battle.

Attleboro, 2 @ Taunton, 0 – Final – Attleboro scored early in the opening quarter and added a key insurance goal early in the final quarter to earn a win on the road at Taunton. Marley Young opened the scoring just under four minutes into the game, taking a pass from Siobhan Landers and finding the back of the net to establish a 1-0 lead. After back-to-back scoreless quarters, Stella Krawiec scored off of a pass from Young less than five minutes into the fourth to make it 2-0. “I’m really proud of the girls for playing their game and using great passing skills around an aggressive Taunton team,” said Attleboro head coach Jess Pink. Attleboro’s Siany Ortez made seven saves in net for the shutout.

Franklin, 10 @ North Attleboro, 1 – Final – Franklin came out of the gate flying with five first quarter goals and never let up on its way to a win over the Rocketeer. Kaitlyn Carney was nearly unstoppable, scoring four of her five goals in the opening 15 minutes of play while Emily Carney had the other goal. Haley Wernig, Shaw Downing, Ella Aldred, and Sydney Rogan also scored for the Panthers. North scored just past the midway point of the second as Caroline Folan scored off of an assist from Francesca Spencer. Julia Puccio orchestrated the goal by knocking down a Franklin aerial and started the counter with Spencer. Gracie Leary (six saves) and Eman Farid (12 saves) played well in net for North. Devon Barry and Megan Sullivan each made three saves for Franklin.

King Philip, 8 @ Milford, 0 – Final – King Philip juniors Mara Boldy and Kelly Holmes each recorded four points to help the Warriors earn a big win on the road over Milford. Boldy scored a hat trick and had one assist while Holmes found the back of the net once and notched three assists. Meg Dowling added two goals, Nikki McDonald scored once and added one helper, and Makenzie McDevitt added a goal for KP.

Sharon, 0 @ Mansfield, 4 – Final – Mansfield got off to a great start with four goals in the opening half and that was enough to earn a win over visiting Sharon. Rose Maher opened the scoring less than a minute into the game, converting a pass from Ava Adams at the 56-second mark to make it 1-0. Lola Varricchione (from Danni Cuzzi) and Maher added to Mansfield’s lead with first quarter goals while Liv Barry made it 4-0, finishing off a pass from Ella Palanza in the second quarter. Lily Danehy earned the shutout in net for the hosts.

Volleyball
Canton, 1 @ Oliver Ames, 3 – Final – Canton came storming back to win the third set to keep the match going, but Oliver Ames closed it out with a hard-fought fourth set to take a 3-1 (25-16, 25-19, 11-25, 25-20) win over the Bulldogs. OA senior Maddie Homer recorded 31 digs to eclipse the 1,000-dig mark for her career. Sophomore Clare Kavoulis dished out 37 assists, junior Sarah Hilliard landed 18 kills, and senior Courtney Raymond recorded 27 service points to go along with eight aces and five kills. Jess Wright and Sally Hoban combined for 17 kills, 16 digs, and five aces while Liana Lamparelli played well for the Bulldogs with 11 digs, three aces, and a pair of kills.

Franklin, 3 @ North Attleboro, 0 – Final

King Philip, 3 @ Milford, 0 – Final – King Philip bounced back into the win column in a big way, earning an emphatic 3-0 (25-15, 25-6, 25-19) win on the road at Milford. Senior middle Emily Sawyer landed a team-high 17 kills along with a pair of aces and a pair of bocks, senior Ahunna James recorded 11 kills and eight digs, senior Sami Shore added five kills, and senior Olivia O’Neil had five kills and four digs. Junior Ava Kelley chipped in with eight digs for KP.

Sharon, 0 @ Mansfield, 3 – Final – After running away with the first set, Mansfield prevailed in a very competitive second set that went down to the wire and went on to finish the match in the third for a 3-0 (25-8, 26-24, 25-12) win over Sharon. Lilly Verheggen (three aces) led a balanced offense for the Hornets with eight kills while Elyssa Buchanan added seven kills, Lily Campbell added six kills, and Lexie Scibilia chipped in with five kills and seven blocks. Jackie Zelic anchored the defense with 14 digs, Ella Mahoney (six aces) and Gabrielle Moore (five aces) both had strong games serving, and Keira Fitzpatrick orchestrated the offense with 14 assists.

Attleboro, 3 @ Taunton, 0 – Final – Attleboro stayed a match ahead and atop the Kelley-Rex standings with just a week to go following a 3-0 sweep (25-17, 25-16, 25-20) win on the road at Taunton. Natalie Brojek dished out 26 assists to go along with five aces and four kills, Julia Leonardo added 17 kills, and Addie Shelton finished with five kills and two aces.

Morgan Cook, Sabrina Rodrigues, Shayla Ford, and Makenzie O’Connor each scored for the visitors. Molly Fox made 10 saves to each the clean sheet.




Field Hockey
King Philip, 4 @ Attleboro, 0 – Final – Lauren Barreiro led the Warriors with three points, helping them pick up a big road win. Barreiro scored twice and assisted on a third, while Mara Boldy and Makenzie McDevitt each found the back of the net once. Nicole McDonald had a pair of assists. Siany Ortez had a massive game for the Bombardiers, making 17 saves in the loss.

Canton, 9 @ Stoughton, 0 – Final

Taunton, 0 @ Franklin, 8 – Final – Kaitlyn Carney and Haley Wernig each scored a pair of first goals while Emily Carney tacked on two in the third quarter as the Panthers picked up a big win. Carney netted a pair of unassisted first halfs while Wernig added one late in the first (from Chloe Fales) and another early in the second quarter (from Kaitlyn Carney). Emily Carney scored just over a minute apart in the third (first from Kaitlyn Carney, the second unassisted) while Sydney Rogan (from Shaw Downing) made it 7-0 at the midway point of the third. Downing capped the scoring with the lone goal of the fourth (from Emily Carney).

Oliver Ames, 2 @ Mansfield, 2 – Final – Kayla Kenney’s fourth quarter goal earned the Tigers a tie in a back-and-forth game at Alumni Field. Julia Maclaine put OA ahead in the second quarter, but Mansfield scored twice in the third to grab the lead. Rose Maher and Ava Adams each found the net for the Hornets. Kenney answered back in the fourth and both teams left with a point. Lily Danehy made eight saves for Mansfield.

Milford @ North Attleboro, 5:15

Sharon, 0 @ Foxboro, 9 – Final – Foxboro erupted for four goals in the second quarter and tacked on three more in the third on its way to a big win over Sharon. Mya Waryas was involved in the Warriors’ first five goals, setting up Ella Campbell for the lone goal of the first quarter, scoring the first goal of the second herself (from Mia Dinunzio and Mary Collins) and then assisting on the next three goals: two from Collins and another from Campbell (also assisted by Izzy Leclair). Collins and Campbell each finished with a hat trick and one assist, Jenny Gallagher and Catherine Cotter both scored once, and Macy Quinn registered an assist.








Volleyball
Sharon, 0 @ Foxboro, 3 – Final – Foxboro made it three straight wins, avenging a five-set loss to the Eagles earlier this season with a 3-0 sweep (25-21, 25-22, 26-24). Sydney Lebow took over at the service line and served the Warriors back at the end of the third set after the Warriors were trailing late. She finished with a pair of aces and seven digs while Alyssa Cloherty added 24 assists, six digs, and two assists. Sami Sloan had a huge day at the net with 22 kills for the hosts along with three digs while Mallorie Meyer had a strong all-around game with seven kills, six digs, three aces, and two blocks.

Taunton, 0 @ Franklin, 3 – Final

Canton, 3 @ Stoughton, 0 – Final – Canton picked up its third straight win and fifth in its last six matches, returning home from a quick trip to Stoughton with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 26-24) win over the Black Knights. Jess Wright led the charge with 13 ills, eight digs, two blocks, and two aces while Sally Hoban added nine kills. Zoe Scibelli played well defensively with 13 digs and had a strong showing at the service line with eight aces.

Oliver Ames, 3 @ Mansfield, 0 – Final – OA pulled out a 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-22) win at Mansfield that keeps its two-game lead atop the Davenport division. Brianna Monteiro provided the Tigers with great defense on the back row, while Maddie Homer finished with 29 digs and 20 receptions. Clare Kavoulis had 24 assists for the Tigers and Courtney Raymond put in a strong all-around performance with six kills, four aces, and a pair of blocks.

North Rallies in Fourth Quarter to Take Down Attleboro

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – It has been a difficult stretch of the season for North Attleboro. After a four-game win streak in which the Rocketeers didn’t allow a goal, North entered Thursday night’s rivalry game at Tozier-Cassidy Field carrying a four-game losing streak in which they been scored on 18 times.

After three quarters against Attleboro, things hardly seemed to be turning around.

This time, rather than allow the game to get away from them, the Rocketeers rallied. Emily Burnham and Caroline Folan each scored in the opening three minutes of the fourth, powering North to a 2-1 victory that brings North’s record back to .500 on the season.

“I was very proud of them for coming back,” said North coach Karen Folan. “They were getting a little chippy about the calls and I said, just play the whistle, play your game. The past few games, it was 0-0 or 1-0 at half but they get up 2-0 and our sails are deflated and they’ve let them rack up goals, but not today.”

Attleboro got off to a perfect start in front of its home crowd. The Bombardiers stormed out of the gates and forced a series of corners in the opening few minutes. Three minutes into the game, Attleboro took advantage of the pressure. Alyvia Bessette played the pass to the top of the circle and Siobhan Landers rifled a shot through the crowd in front and past North goalie Eman Farid (five saves).

“Siobhan just had a beautiful shot. It was a great goal to start the game,” said Attleboro coach Jessica Pink. “It was the best start that you could ask for as a coach and the momentum that it gave us for those first three quarters was exactly what they needed.”

North tried to respond midway through the half but Folan’s shot didn’t get the touch it needed in front and the goal didn’t count. While the visitors had several spells of possession, it was Attleboro that created the best chances in the opening 15 minutes.

Marley Young nearly hit the Rocketeers in transition but her shot from the right skidded across the face of goal. A minute later, Stella Krawiec attacked down the opposite flank and forced Farid into a kick save.

In the closing seconds of the first, Attleboro had a great chance to double the lead. Landers played a pass out to the right wing to get Nora Desrosiers into the attack. Her cross into the middle, with both Young and Krawiec lurking, was deflected on net but kicked aside by Farid.

Folan said, “At the beginning, this is a big game, it’s a big rivalry, but at the same time there’s a lot of friendships between the two teams. They play club together, so I think we were a little too excited at the beginning, maybe a little rattled when they scored.”

After a first period spent largely on its heels, North had a good response at the start of the second, forcing an early corner. Julia Puccio stepped to her backhand and ripped a shot that was blocked out to Kelsey Thompson, who was able to put her shot on goal and force a save out of Attleboro goalie Siany Ortez (five saves).

Midway through the second, North almost tied it off another corner chance. Again it was Puccio with the first try but Attleboro’s defense got a block in. The rebound fell to Kelsey Hodson and her shot was also deflected. The third try fell to Folan from point-blank range, but Ortez got down quickly and made the stop.

Attleboro would have one good opportunity in the second. Landers again was the spark-plug in the midfield, spraying a pass out to Desrosiers on the right. The sophomore went for goal and was denied by Farid. The rebound bounced to Bailey Ellis on the far side, but Farid got across and blocked her shot as well.

Things settled down in the third quarter, as Attleboro started to tighten up defensively and try to prevent a transition that could lead to the tying goal. Landers had one chance after a good pick out from Young, but the shot was wide. Puccio had North’s best chance of the quarter, firing a shot wide from the top of the circle.

North came storming out of the blocks in the fourth quarter and Attleboro seemed to be struggling to match the energy of the visitors.

Pink explained, “They played the full 60 minutes and I just think they ran out of steam, where [North] had a lot of girls to circulate through, and I think at the end that made a huge difference.”

On the third in a series of rapid-fire corners, and on their 13th corner of the night, the Rocketeers leveled the score. Instead of playing it out to Puccio, North found Burnham on the left wing and she had enough time to line up a shot through the crowd in front of goal.

“That was beautiful,” Folan said of Burnham’s equalizer. “Yesterday we practiced some different corners. We don’t usually take it on that side, but our corners weren’t working so well.” Reflecting on one goal on 15 corners on Thursday, she added with a chuckle, “I don’t know that those corners worked all that well today either.”

North got a boost of energy from the goal and almost immediately found the back of the net again. Puccio slid a pass into Folan, but Ortez was able to keep it out. A minute later, just three minutes into the quarter, the Rocketeers forced a turnover in the midfield and Puccio was able to set up Folan for a quick second goal that turned out to be the winner.

Momentum was with the visitors and they looked to press their advantage. Puccio fired a backhand shot wide and Francesca Spencer had a nice run to set up Folan right in front but again the Attleboro goalie denied the chance. Thompson also set up Folan in the middle and Ortez was equal to it.

Attleboro started to win back territory in the closing two minutes, but was unable to create a significant chance to test Farid, as North got back in the win column at the start of a busy month.

“In the second half of the fourth quarter, they tried to regroup and you could tell they were really trying to push that momentum,” Pink said. “They were trying, but just couldn’t capitalize on the net. You could see they wanted it really bad at the end.”

North Attleboro (5-5-1) will look to keep things rolling with a trip to Sharon on Tuesday. Attleboro (4-8-0) will enter its final six games of the regular season with a visit to Canton.

North Attleboro, 0 @ Foxboro, 1 – Final – Foxboro broke into the win column, riding a first half goal to pick up two points against visiting North Attleboro. After a nice defensive play in the midfield by junior Ryan Flaherty, the Warriors were able to push forward into the attack. A nice run from senior Joel Gygi down the left side resulted in a cross that was parried by the keeper but right to senior Alex Penders, who blasted a low shot into the net for the lone goal of the game in the 23rd minute.

Attleboro, 1 @ Sharon, 1 – Final – Attleboro took the lead in the first half but Sharon found a late equalizer to split the points. Esvin Morales scored off of an assist from Alex Vecchioli in the first half, and the Bombardiers carried that lead late into the game before Sharon’s Adam Eastman headed in a cross with five minutes left to tie it.

Taunton, 3 @ Oliver Ames, 8 – Final – Oliver Ames had an offensive outburst to the tune of seven half goals on its way to a win over visiting Taunton. Sophomore Casey Milliken had a first half hat trick and capped OA’s scoring with his fourth goal in the second half. Andrew Martins added a first half brace (both assisted by Ryan Linhares), Mirray Dasilva had a goal and an assist, and Jason Zalis netted his second goal of the season in the win.

Milford, 9 @ Stoughton, 1 – Final – Milford’s offense was clicking on all cylinders in a big win on the road at Stoughton. Eduardo Santana had a big day with a first half hat trick, twice hooking up with Jonny Castro and one assist from John Borges. Castro had a third assist in the opening half, setting up Arthur Tome — who finished with a brace and two assists. Nate Dinis (from Nick Ribeiro), Marcello Alves (from Miguel De Olivera), Danny Da Silva, and Andre Baiano also scored for the Scarlet Hawks.

Franklin, 1 @ Mansfield, 0 – Final – Franklin scored the lone goal of the game just past the midway point of the second half to earn a hard-fought two points on the road against a tough Mansfield squad. Andrew O’Neill was there to pounce on the rebound of a shot from Will Kryzak in the 63rd minute for the lone goal of the game. “Mansfield really made us work for this one,” said Franklin head coach Fran Bositis. Mansfield applied a lot of pressure over the final 15 minutes but couldn’t find the equalizer. Mansfield coach Steve Sheridan praised his defense, highlighting strong performances from Brendan Flynn and goalie Liam Doyle.

King Philip, 3 @ Canton, 5 – Final – Click here for a Photo Gallery from this game. – Jake McCabe recorded a second half hat trick to lead Canton to an important two points against visiting King Philip. McCabe had an assist on Canton’s opener, just three minutes in, using a clever touch on a near post run to set up freshman Vlad Francoeur for an open night right in front. The Warriors leveled the match just under 10 minutes later as Andrew Seropian played a great through ball to Matt Crago, who tucked a shot past the keeper in the 12th minute. The Bulldogs went back ahead in the 29th minute as sophomore Owen Morrissey notched his first career goal by heading in a cross to the far post from senior Carson Eagles. In the second half, McCabe scored twice inside the first 15 minutes, racing onto a ball over the top and beating the keeper 1-v-1, and then off of a deflected throw-in in the 54th minute to make it 5-1. King Philip scored twice in the final 10 minutes, first off of a deflection for a goal to Deven Patel, and then in the final moments when junior Keagan Fletcher played classmate Jack Morgan through for a breakaway.

Canton, 0 @ King Philip, 3 – Final – Ella Pisani scored a brace and the KP defense was able to quiet Canton’s potent attack to pick up an impressive win and move alone into first place in the Kelley-Rex division. Addisyn Lamothe-Vaughn tapped in a corner, assisted by Kylie Menendez, in the 28th minute for what turned out to be the game-winner. Pisani would add a pair of second half goals to seal the win. The first came with 19 minutes to play, taking a pass from Menendez and firing a shot over the keeper from 25 yards. With two minutes left, Pisani tapped in a perfect cross from Heidi Lawrence. Lauren Casper got the clean sheet in net, making five saves. KP coach Gary Pichel made a point of praising his back line, Grace Lawler, Rihanna Mason, Rylie Wesley, and Lamothe-Vaughn for its play in the shutout.

Foxboro, 1 @ North Attleboro, 1 – Final – North scored in the closing seconds to rescue a point against Foxboro. Trailing by a goal late, Emma Pratt scored the equalizer on a rebound after a cross from Kaitlyn Joyce. The Warriors had the majority of possession throughout and took the lead when Neve Taylor found the back of the net from a Lindsey Resnick assist.

Mansfield, 0 @ Franklin, 0 – Final – Mansfield and Franklin were unable to find the back of the net and settled for a point apiece in a hard-fought game. Franklin coach Tom Geysen said that it was evenly matched and well-played by both teams, while Mansfield coach Kevin Smith said there was a playoff intensity to the match. Mansfield keeper Olivia Salisbury made four saves to earn her fifth clean sheet.

Stoughton, 4 @ Milford, 3 – Final – Stoughton rallied from a three-goal deficit and Makenzie O’Connor scored with just two minutes to play to secure a dramatic come-from-behind victory. Ava Baglione scored twice and Dani Atherton added a third to put the Hawks into a 3-0 lead. Shayla Ford scored once to get back within two before halftime and then added her second to make it 3-2 after the break. Bianca Casna tied the game for the Black Knights, before O’Connor, who also had an assist, fired in the winner.

Oliver Ames, 6 @ Taunton, 1 – Final – Jenna Gilman scored twice to lead OA to a big road win Emma Gavin, Mary Cross, Jolie Diaz, and Laney Carroll each added one for Oliver Ames in the win while Lucinda Li Cotter had three assists and Sophia Byron had one Jenna Nelson and Ali Manson also added strong performances for the visitors. Juliana Matos scored Taunton’s lone goal on an assist from Emily Calderon and keeper Ashlyn Hebert made eight saves. Taunton coach Dan Borges was happy with his team’s effort and aggression in the second half and the way the Tigers kept fighting despite being behind.








Field Hockey
Sharon, 0 @ Attleboro, 7 – Final – Junior Siobhan Landers scored a hat trick and senior Marley Young had three assists as Attleboro rolled to a big win at home. Landers scored a trio of goals, including one on a stroke, senior Jordan Mooney added a pair of goals, and both sophomore Nora Desrosiers and junior Bailey Ellis scored once in the win. Senior Alyvia Bessette also had an assist while sophomore Siany Ortez recorded the shutout in net.

Foxboro, 3 vs. North Attleboro, 1 – Final – Foxboro junior Mary Collins scored twice and added an assist on the third as the Warriors earned a hard-fought win over North Attleboro. Jenny Gallagher opened the scoring for Foxboro on a pass from Collins, who then scored back-to-back goals for the Warriors. Mia Dinunzio and Mya Waryas had the assists on Foxboro’s second goal while Val Beigel and Dinunzio notched assists on the third tally. Beigel had a standout performance in the midfield for Foxboro while Waryas and Collins both played well offensively.

Mansfield, 0 @ Franklin, 4 – Final – Franklin scored twice in the second quarter, and then once in each the third and fourth, to pick up a win over visiting Mansfield. After a scoreless first quarter, the Panthers got on the board just over midway through the second when Haley Wernig buried an unassisted goal. The Panthers doubled their lead with a minute left in the half as Sydney Rogan set up Kaitlyn Carney to make it 2-0. In the second half, Wernig got her second (from Chloe Essam) with less than a minute left in the third, and Payten Crandall made it 4-0 (from Carney) less than two minutes into the fourth. Devon Barry had the shutout in net for the hosts.

Stoughton, 1 @ Milford, 0 – Final – Stoughton returned from a trip to Milford with its first win of the season, recording a 1-0 victory over the Scarlet Hawks. Carly Sanda scored for the Black Knights, converting a pass from Katherine Giroux. Kerry Driscoll and Cat Melo played excellent defense throughout the game to help seal the win for the Black Knights.

Canton, 5 @ King Philip, 2 – Final – Deadlocked at 2-2 at halftime, Canton used a strong second half to secure a key win on the road. Freshman Carolyn Schiavo had a hat trick to pace the offense while Audrey Koen and Ellie Bohane each scored once for the Bulldogs. Abby Macdonald and Mara Boldy (from Kelly Holmes) scored first half goals for King Philip.

Oliver Ames, 2 @ Taunton, 0 – Final – Click here for a Photo Gallery from this game. – Oliver Ames scored once in each half to emerge from a defensive battle with Taunton for the win. Erin Cottam scored both goals for the Tigers with Julia Maclaine recording the assist each time. Olivia O’Rourke had the shutout in net for the visitors.




Volleyball
Canton, 0 @ King Philip, 3 – Final – King Philip took care of business, earning a three-set sweep of visiting Canton (25-9, 25-14, 25-15). The Warriors continued to play well at the net with a balanced attack: senior Emily Sawyer (two blocks) had 11 kills while classmates Sami Shore (two aces) Ahunna James (nine digs), and Olivia O’Neil (five digs) each chipped in with six kills apiece. For Canton, Sally Hoban and Fatima Sidibay played well at the net while Kelly Schiavo and Zoe Scibelli played good defense.

Mansfield, 0 @ Franklin, 3 – Final – Taylor Lacerda and Makayla Kuykendall both had strong games as Franklin notched another 3-0 win (25-17, 25-17, 25-22), this time against a solid Mansfield squad. Lacerda had 11 kills in the win, adding five digs, a block, and an ace while Kuykendall recorded 16 digs, six kills, and four aces.

Foxboro, 2 @ North Attleboro, 3 – Final

Stoughton, 3 @ Milford, 1 – Final – Stoughton notched one of its best wins of the season, going on the road and grabbing a 3-1 win over the Scarlet Hawks. Patrik Oliveira anchored the defense for the Black Knights with 12 digs.

Oliver Ames, 3 @ Taunton, 1 – Final – Oliver Ames bounced back from a close first set loss to win three straight, taking a 3-1 decision (22-25, 25-7, 25-20, 25-21) over Taunton. Junior Sarah Hilliard continued her strong play at the net with 21 kills and three aces, sophomore Clare Kavoulis had 39 assists, Maddie Homer added 17 digs, Courtney Raymond chipped in with eight aces and five kills, and Addyson Smock finished with six kills and four blocks.

Sharon, 1 @ Attleboro, 3 – Final – After splitting the first two sets, Attleboro took two in a row to fend off a stiff test from visiting Sharon, 3-1 (25-8, 21-25, 25-13, 25-17). Julia Leonardo led the offense with 16 kills, nine digs, and two aces, Ellie Shelton added seven kills, and Addie Shelton chipped in with six kills and four aces. Natalie Brojek orchestrated the offense with 30 assists and added five kills as well.

Taunton @ Attleboro, 2:20

Franklin, 145 @ Oliver Ames, 144 – Final – The battle of the top two teams lived up to the hype as Oliver Ames earned a one-stroke win over Franklin in a non-league clash between division leaders. The Tigers’ top four of senior Michael McGinnis, senior Daniel Paul, junior David Rodgers, and junior Sean Kearns all shot a 36 at their home course of Pine Oaks for the win. Franklin’s Tyler O’Brien and Jack Hagerty shared medalist honors, both firing a round of 34.

Sharon, 188 @ Mansfield, 160 – Final – Drew Urban fired a medalist round of 38 to lead Mansfield to a win and a season-sweep of now division rival Sharon on the links at Norton Country Club. Nate McClean added a 39 in the win, Jason Friedman finished with a 41, and Hayden O’Connor rounded out the scoring with a round of 42 for the Hornets.

Milford, 168 @ King Philip, 151 – Final – Senior co-captain Gavin Croke shot an even par round of 35 to earn medalist honors and King Philip took down visiting Milford at Wentworth Hills. Croke had birdies on two and six in his medalist round. Ethan Sullivan added a 38 for KP while Cam Hasenfus, Jason Silva, and Evan Regan all came in with a 39.

Canton, 160 @ Stoughton, 173 – Final – Canton hit the road and came back home from Easton Country Club with a win over Stoughton. Brendan Tourgee earned match medalist honors, leading the way for the Bulldogs with a 38. Huck McCready added a 40 in the win and both Matt Anderson and Gavin McMahon shot a 41. Stoughton’s Mason Page and Colby Strunk each shot a 41.
