Mansfield, 2 @ Franklin, 8 – Final – Ben Paterson, Anthony Lampasona, and Dan Daley each had three points apiece in a big win against Mansfield. The Panthers built a 3-0 lead in the first period and then scored twice in the final minute to extend the lead to 5-0. Paterson had two goals and one assists while both Lamapsona and Daley scored once with two assists. Ryan Sicchio, Aidan Kuykendall, Logan Marchand, and Dylan McEvoy each scored once for Franklin.

Oliver Ames, 1 @ Plymouth South, 2 – Final

Franklin, 1 vs. Medway, 3 – Final

King Philip, 2 @ Norwood, 6 – Final – Mallory Johnston made 49 saves, including the 1,000th of her career in the loss. Katarina Precobb had both KP goals, one assisted by Mara Boldy and the other by Lydia Maxwell.

Woburn Tournament (Mansfield) – Mansfield senior Colton Johnson dominated in the 220-bracket, going 4-0 to win the individual title as the Hornets took 14th place in the Woburn Invitational. Johnson, the top seed in the 220 bracket, opened the day with a first round, and won his second round match with a pin in 62 seconds. Johnson won in the semifinals with another first round pin and defeated the three seed in the finals with his fourth pinfall of the day. Dylan Detch (132) and Odin Miller (170) each finished sixth in their bracket.

Springfield Central Duals (Milford), 9:00AM

Cumberland Tournament (North Attleboro), 10:00AM

Oliver Ames Super Quad/Kieron Smith Tournament – Oliver Ames competed in two locations on Saturday, including a super quad meet at home and the Kieron Smith Memorial Tournament at Monty Tech. In the quad meet, Oliver Ames went 3-1 with wins over Durfee (66-22), Boston Latin Academy (72-12), and Norwood (45-33) along with a close loss to Milton (42-39). Senior captain heavyweight Jaden Hinton made his return to the line and went 4-0, including a pair of pins, and sophomore 145 Danny Dwyer went 4-0 in his varsity debut. Junior Ryan Smith (120, 3-1 overall) and freshman Taharka Parry (132, 2-1 overall) each recorded their first varsity wins. The other half of the squad placed fifth at the Kieron Smith Tournament, highlighted by a first place finish from senior Victor Romeiro (126). Seniors Jake Manthous (182) and Nathan Lipski (145) each took second, and freshman Jonah Bornstein (106) earned third.

St. John’s Shrewsbury Quad (Sharon) – It was another impressive day on the mats for the Eagles, who won all three of that matches. Sharon secured wins over Masconomet (66-12), Marlboro (60-24), and host St. John’s Shrewsbury (46-30). Robby Hutton, Cam Birnbaum, Nick Varvak, Cyrus Jones, Aaron Stafford, Mason Lelling, and Cormac Horlbogen all went undefeated on the day.

Marshfield Quad (Taunton) – Taunton suffered its first loss of the season in a competitive match with Methuen but the Tigers did register three other wins on the day. The Rangers earned a 54-26 win to hand Taunton it’s first loss but the Tigers did pin down victories over South Shore Voke (78-6), Silver Lake (58-240, and host Marshfield (69-12). Xavier Sandoval, Ben Mandeville, Ethan Harris, and Logan Frank all went 4-0 for the Tigers.

Boys Soccer
Foxboro, 1 @ Taunton, 6 – Final – Click here for a photo gallery of this game. – Taunton senior Riley Rebello scored a pair of first half goals and the Tigers raced out to a big lead and never looked back. After trading goals in the opening 20 minutes, the Tigers finished the first half with four goals. Quincy Jones-Sylvia opened the scoring, Devin Poe scored his first of the game for Taunton’s second goal, and Rebello scored back-to-back goals: one on a terrific strike from distance and another off a free kick. Conal Scully and Poe each added a goal in the second half. Marco Pacini scored a first half goal for the Warriors.

Stoughton, 0 @ Franklin, 3 – Final – Franklin scored a pair of first half goals and tacked on a key insurance tally in the opening moments of the second half to secure a win over visiting Stoughton. Sophomore Garrett Scagliarini opened the scoring for the hosts, finishing off a feed from junior Rex Cinelli in the 13th minute to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Just past the half hour mark, sophomore Wyatt Herndon set up junior Hansy Jacques to double the hosts’ advantage. Just two minutes into the second half, Trey Lovell capped the scoring with an unassisted strike.

Mansfield, 3 @ King Philip, 2 – Final – Mansfield got the odd goal in five to pull out a win at KP. All the goals were scored in the opening half. Dan Checkoway opened the scoring for the Hornets finishing off an assist from Grady Sullivan. Aiden Steele got the second with a pass from Lucas DeSousa. Sullivan got what turned out to be the game-winner after 27 minutes. Tyler Znoj had the assist. Matt Crago had a goal and assist for the Warriors and Oliver Blackburn got a goal from the penalty spot. Will Bowen also had an assist for KP. Mansfield coach Steve Sheridan praised his team’s effort in the second half to hold onto the one-goal lead.

Sharon, 0 @ North Attleboro, 1 – Final – Carson Dameron scored seven minutes into the second half to give North a big win over Sharon. Bryce Newth got the assist on the goal. North’s back line of Jack Regan, Brody Carter, Sam Bush, and Kaden Burns put in a strong shift to limit Sharon’s scoring opportunities.

Canton, 0 @ Attleboro, 0 – Final








Girls Soccer
Attleboro, 3 @ Canton, 1 – Final – Jamie Davies recorded three points (two goals and an assist) and Alexis Campbell saved a penalty, as Attleboro picked up a critical road win that moves the Bombardiers back within a win of .500. Davies had a first-half brace, the first assisted by Tatum O’Brien after seven minutes and the second assisted by Tatum Leahy 15 minutes later. Campbell came up with a big stop on a penalty kick that kept the Bombardiers in front at the break. Attleboro kept up the energy to win the midfield battle in the second half and O’Brien sealed the win with a goal, assisted by Davies, three minutes from the final whistle.

Taunton, 0 @ Foxboro, 2 – Final – Lauren Miley had a goal and an assist and Foxboro ended a 10-game winless streak to pick up the home win on senior night. Freshman Shea Dorney opened the scoring off a Miley pass and then Miley double the lead in the second half, assisted by Erin Foley. Lindsey Resnick led a strong defensive effort for the Warriors along with goalie Allie Sougaris.

Franklin, 1 @ Stoughton, 0 – Final – Franklin got its second clean sheet in as many days, holding on for a win that moves the Panthers one point ahead of KP in the league title race ahead of Friday’s showdown. Lauren Mitchell and Emma Tremblay both played well in the Stoughton defense, helping keep Franklin to one goal. Katrina Varnum made 11 saves for the Black Knights.

King Philip, 1 @ Mansfield, 2 – Final – Avery Hawthorne scored a winner midway through the second half to lift Mansfield to the upset of Kelley-Rex leader King Philip. Bridget Hanley opened the scoring for the Hornets with a first-half penalty. Mikayla Thompson equalized with an unassisted goal for the Warriors 12 minutes after the break, but Hawthorne popped up five minutes later to finish off a pass from Meghan McCann.

Milford, 2 @ Oliver Ames, 6 – Final – OA scored six times in the first half and the Tigers made it 10 straight wins, opening up a five-point lead atop the Davenport division. Taylor deVos scored a brace, while Lucinda Li Cotter, Jolie Diaz, Jenna Gilman, and Carly Gibson each scored once to build a 6-0 lead. Cotter and Diaz also had assists. Dani Atherton scored a brace in the second half to bring Milford closer.




Golf
Attleboro, 184 @ Oliver Ames, 183 – Final (5 cards) – Tied through four cards, Oliver Ames pulled off a one-stroke victory on the fifth card to take a win over visiting Attleboro. Oliver Ames’ Sean Kearns and Attleboro’s Leo Lombardo shared medalist honors after each shot a 34 on the day. Michael McGinnis and Braden Shapiro each added a 37 for the Tigers, Daniel Paul came in with a 38, and Ryan Smith, Carter Hanson, and David Rodgers each shot a 39. For Attleboro, Carter Shelton fired a 35 and Ryan Hill finished with a 36.

North Attleboro, 176 @ Foxboro, 187 – Final – Jake Gaskin was the only player to shoot a sub-40 round, taking medalist honors with a 39, as North pulled out the non-league win. The Rocketeers also got rounds of 41 from Tyson Laviano, 47 from Caiden Albergio, and 49 from Ishan Kohli. Foxboro was led by Zac Georgantas, who had three pars and a round of 45. Louie Carangelo was one back with a 46 and Reese Curreri and Josh Connolly each shot a 48 for the Warriors.

Taunton, 177 @ Sharon, 174 – Final

Stoughton, 39 @ Weymouth, 100 – Final

Milford, 155 @ Canton, 161 – Final – Milford earned a close win over Canton, led by Jacob Hipolito’s medalist round of 36. Anthony LaPierre also broke 40 for the Hawks, finishing with a 37. Eric Farrell added a round of 40 and Zach Hippolito shot a 42. Canton’s low scorer was Brendan Tourgee with a 38, while Brian Middleton had a 39. Charlie Vaughan finished with a round of 41 and the Bulldogs had three golfers, Matt Yeaton, Danny Hall, and Joey Ryan, shoot rounds of 43.

Foxboro, 0 @ Wachusett, 3 – Final

Franklin, 2 @ Newton South, 0 – Final – Franklin scored once in each half to earn a massive road win against a fellow Div. 1 title contender. Olivia Costa opened the scoring in the first half, finishing a feed from Tori Carmignani. Kelly O’Connor scored from a Katie Ewald corner in the second half to secure the points in a hard-fought, physical matchup. Rachel Welch made eight saves for Franklin. Newton South came into Tuesday’s game as the third-ranked team in D1.

Field Hockey
Attleboro, 2 @ Canton, 1 – Final – Attleboro scored its biggest win of the season, going on the road and knocking off Hock powerhouse Canton. Audrey Koen scored in the first quarter to give the Bulldogs the early advantage but Siobhan Landers answered off a corner in the second quarter to bring the Bombardiers level. Landers found the back of the net again in the third and Siany Ortez (12 saves) and the Attleboro defense pitched a second half shutout to close out the win. Alyvia Bessette, Marley Young, and Jordan Mooney each had an assist in the win. “A collective massive team win today,” said Attleboro head coach Jess Pink. “There was no one player that stood out as the defense worked together to secure the win and resist a lot of Canton pressure at the end of the game. The middies fed the offense and came up with some big block tackles to maintain position.”

Franklin, 13 @ Stoughton, 0 – Final – Franklin’s Kaitlyn Carney recorded a hat trick and both Shaw Downing and Haley Wernig scored a pair of goals in a big win on the road.

King Philip, 2 @ Mansfield, 1 – Final – King Philip scored less than a minute into each the first and second quarter and that proved to be enough in a close battle on the road at Mansfield. Sophomore Makenzie McDevitt opened the scoring just 57 seconds into the contest, and KP took a 1-0 lead into the second quarter. This time, it took just 19 seconds for McDevitt to find the back of the net and double the advantage. Mansfield made a game of it when Emma Redding scored at 11:32 of the second quarter, finishing off an assist from Kristina Kipp on a corner. The Warriors applied a lot of pressure in the second to try and add to its lead, but couldn’t solve Mansfield goalie Lily Danehy (18 saves) again.

Milford @ Oliver Ames, 3:45

North Attleboro, 8 @ Sharon, 1 – Final – After scoring twice in the first quarter, North Attleboro exploded for five goals in the second quarter in a big win on the road at Sharon. Ava Spencer scored the opener goal midway through the first quarter and finished the game with a pair of goals and a pair of assists. Caroline Folan and Julia Puccio (one assist) both added two goals while Madison Folan and Ella Luistro each scored once. Olivia LeBlanc scored a fourth quarter goal for Sharon.

Taunton, 0 @ Foxboro, 7 – Final – Following a scoreless first quarter, Foxboro staked a 3-0 lead by halftime and then exploded for four goals in the fourth quarter to secure a big win. Ella Campbell scored a pair of goals just two minutes apart, finishing off a pass from Mary Collins for the first goal of the game three minutes into the second quarter, and then scoring unassisted at 10:24. Mya Waryas added an unassisted goal with just over two minutes to go in the first half to make it 3-0. Paige Curran extended Foxboro’s lead 90 seconds into the final frame and then Collins scored a hat trick in the final 12 minutes with Kaelin Connors, Campbell, and Mia DiNunzio each recording an assist.








Volleyball
Taunton, 3 @ Foxboro, 1 – Final – Taunton overcame a one-set deficit by winning three straight to secure a 3-1 (20-25, 25-19, 26-24, 25-21) win on the road at Foxboro. The Warriors jumped out to a lead with a win in the first set but the Tigers evened the match at 1-1 and then took a very close third set to gain momentum in the win. Sayla DePinra had a big game for the Tigers with nine kills and one block, Hayley Krockta added eight kills and 12 digs, and Morgan Smith chipped in with five kills and a pair aces. Courtney Martin had a good serving game with nine aces along with eight digs, and Anna Abouzeid had a strong all-around performance with 25 assists, seven digs, six aces, and four kills. For Foxboro, Juliana Pettigrew (15 kills, seven digs) and Ava Kirk (nine kills, three blocks, two aces) paced the offense while Shannon McElhinney (18 digs, seven aces) and Gianna Dunne (11 digs, ace) anchored the Warriors’ defense.

Milford, 0 @ Oliver Ames, 3 – Final – Oliver Ames defended its home court, recording a 3-0 sweep (25-12, 25-19, 25-22) over visiting Milford. Senior Maddie Homer recorded 19 digs, junior Sarah Hilliard notched 13 kills, sophomore Ava Barth had a big day serving with 18 service points, and junior Paula Romero had a strong game for the Tigers.

King Philip, 3 @ Mansfield, 0 – Final – King Philip opened with a dominating first set and never looked back in a sweep on the road at Mansfield, 3-0 (25-8, 25-16, 25-16). Seniors Emily Sawyer (seven aces) and Sami Shore (two aces) paced the offense with nine kills apiece, seniors Ahunna James (nine digs, four kills, three aces) and Olivia O’Neil (four kills, four digs) both had strong all-around games, and junior Ava Kelley anchored the defense with eight digs. Elyssa Buchanan had four kills and a block for the Hornets while Lauren Rubicine (seven digs) and Gabrielle Moore (eight digs) played well defensively for the Hornets.




Boys Cross Country
King Philip, 24 @ Milford, 31 – Final – King Philip’s Nate Sylven took first overall and the Warriors had five of the top eight runners to get a win on the road over Milford. Sylven won in 17:02 while Owen Mackenzie (18:59), Eliot Davis (19:12), and Max Miller (19:13) took fourth, fifth, and sixth overall, respectively for KP. Paxton Hubert (19:34) rounded out the scoring for the visitors, taking eighth overall.

Canton, 38 @ Oliver Ames, 19 – Final – The top harrier for the Bulldogs was Luke Darling, who took fourth overall with a time of 18:59. Also running strong races and career bests for Canton were Austin DiBiasio (20:05) and Maks Alves (20:16), who finished seventh and ninth, respectively.

Sharon @ Foxboro, 3:45

Mansfield, 15 @ Stoughton, 48 – Final – Mansfield took the top five spots on its way to a sweep of Stoughton. Junior Talon Johnson won his fourth race of the season, finishing in 18:00 while sophomore Ben Dury took fourth place in 19:12.

Girls Cross Country
King Philip, 21 @ Milford, 34 – Final – King Philip took four of the first five spots, and five of the top seven on its way to a win over the Scarlet Hawks. Sydney Kalil continued her winning ways for Milford but the next four runners to cross were from KP: Kate Buban taking second overall (20:32) followed by Rachel Bailer, Leah Burke, and Keira Evans. Bridget Swezey (seventh) and Kat Precobb also ran well for the Warriors.

Canton, 50 @ Oliver Ames, 15 – Final – Canton’s top runner was Johanna Bouwmeester, running 24:04. She was followed by a strong pack of Bulldogs including Klara Redquest, Tahlia Weaver, Honesty Johnson, Nishka Baduamanda, and Tema Mazonson.

Sharon @ Foxboro, 3:45

Mansfield, 26 @ Stoughton, 30 – Final – Mansfield’s Anna Moore picked up her fourth win of the season as the Hornets secured a close victory over Stoughton. Senior Alexis DiVasta was fourth and sophomore Sierra Wojick took sixth for the Hornets.

Attleboro, 43 @ Taunton, 16 – Final

Franklin, 18 @ North Attleboro, 45 – Final – Franklin’s Alex Batla and Fiona Morrison took the top two spots and rounded out its scoring with five of the top six runners to clinch the Kelley-Rex division title. Batla won in 20:45 with Morrison crossing at 20:46. Vivienne Loukota, Katie Sweeney, and Carli Walbert took fourth, fifth, and sixth overall, respectively, to give the Panthers the win.




Golf
King Philip, 145 @ Stoughton, 177 – Final – King Philip junior Ethan Sullivan fired a medalist round to lead the Warriors to a win on the road over Stoughton at Easton Country Club. Sullivan carded a 35, Gavin Croke and Cam Hasenfus each shot 36 on the day, and freshmen Jason Silva and Evan Regan each carded a 38. For Stoughton, James Spector shot a 40 and Joe Rush finished with a 43.

Oliver Ames, 162 @ Mansfield, 158 – Final – Mansfield earned its biggest win of the season, handing Oliver Ames its first loss of the season and clinching a share of the Davenport division alongside the Tigers. Nate McClean had a great performance at Norton Country Club, firing a 37 to earn medalist honors in the win. Cody Nieratko and Brendan Vokey each finished at 40 for the day and Davon Sanders, who had an eagle on the ninth hole to help clinch the win, finished at 41. Sean Kearns, David Rodgers, and Daniel Paul all shot a 40 for Oliver Ames while Ryan Smith chipped in with a 42.

Taunton, 175 @ Franklin, 150 – Final – Franklin won its final division match of the season to finish tied in first, clinching a share of the Kelley-Rex division crown along with King Philip. Jack Hagerty had a pair of birdies and finished with a medalist round of 36 to lead the Panthers. Matt Cacciapaglia (two birdies), Brendan Collins (one birdie), and CJ Steel (one birdie) each came in with a 38 for Franklin. Logan Letourneau led the way for Taunton with a 41.

Sharon, 164 @ Milford, 150 – Final – Milford returned home after a five-match road trip and secured a win at Hopedale Country Club, taking down visiting Sharon. Junior Anthony LaPierre fired a two-under par round of 33 to lead the way for the Hawks, earning match medalist honors. Jacob Hipolito added a 38 and Nate Lawrence finished with a 39 in the win. Sharon’s Dylan Cummings shot a team-low round of 39.

Girls Soccer
Foxboro, 2 @ Walpole, 2 – Final – After allowing a late goal on Monday in a draw against North, Foxboro scored in the final minute on Tuesday to earn a point on the road at Walpole. Lauren Miley got Foxboro’s first goal, finishing a free kick from Erin Foley. With less than a minute to play, Neve Taylor scored off a Lindsey Resnick pass (the same combo from Monday’s game) to rescue a result for the Warriors. Keeper Allie Sougaris had another strong game for Foxboro.

Field Hockey
Mansfield, 6 @ Sharon, 0 – Final – Mansfield built a big lead early with four goals in the first quarter, then tacked on two more in the final quarter to secure a win over Sharon. Lola Varricchione opened the scoring for the Hornets, Kristina Kipp scored back-to-back goals, and Ella Palanza capped Mansfield’s first quarter scoring to make it 4-0. Danni Cuzzi and Rose Maher each scored once in the fourth quarter while Ava Adams finished the game with two assists.

Volleyball
Foxboro, 3 vs. Walpole, 0 – Final – After a tough five-set loss on Monday, Foxboro bounced back with a clean sweep on Tuesday, taking down Walpole, 3-0 (27-25, 25-23, 25-17). Alyssa Cloherty dished out 28 assists and added six digs and four aces, Ava Kirk had a big day with nine kills, and Mallorie Meyer finished with 13 digs, five kills, four aces, and two blocks.








Boys Cross Country
North Attleboro, 39 @ Taunton, 19 – Final – For the second straight race, Taunton’s Brayden Cali (17:17) and Andrew Cali (17:25) took the top two spots, and Jack Pawlowski took third as the Tigers ran away with a win over North Attleboro. Aiden Zamora (sixth) and Daris Alves (seventh) rounded out the scoring for the Tigers. William Atwood was North’s top runner, clocking in at 18:22 for fourth overall while Brady King (18:25) was fifth.

Canton, 38 @ Sharon, 20 – Final – Canton’s top runner was Sam Vail (third overall), who ran a career best of 18:28 over the 5K course at Ward’s Berry Farm. Luke Darling (18:42) and Austin DiBiasio (20:06) also ran career best times for the Bulldogs.

Stoughton, 49 @ Foxboro, 15 – Final

Oliver Ames, 19 @ Mansfield, 38 – Final

Milford, 20 @ Franklin, 43 – Final – Milford’s Sydney Kalil took first place by nearly a minute but Franklin followed with 11 straight runners to get the win over the Scarlet Hawks. Ashley Tighe and Abigail Baker were Franklin’s top two runners, taking second and third overall, respectively. Alex Batla, Fiona Morrison, and Carli Walbert rounded out the scoring for Franklin with fourth, fifth, and sixth place finishes.

Girls Cross Country
North Attleboro, 31 @ Taunton, 26 – Final – Taunton used a one-two finish to collect a close win over visiting North Attleboro. Emersyn DePonte crossed the finish line in 20:04 to take first and Colby Dunham followed at 20:13 for second overall.

Canton, 44 @ Sharon, 18 – Final – Sophomore Tahlia Weaver was Canton’s top runner, taking third overall and finishing in 22:59. Johanna Bouwmeester (23:46) and Klara Redquest (24:12), who placed eighth and 10th respectively, also had strong races for the Bulldogs.

Golf
Milford, 160 @ Franklin, 142 – Final – Franklin bounced back from a loss on Monday by taking down division foe Milford at Franklin Country Club on Tuesday. CJ Steel had third birdies and Tyler O’Brien had two, each finishing at 35 for the day to earn medalist honors. Brendan Collins (three birdies) and Jack Hagerty (two birdies) both finished at 36 to round out the scoring for the Panthers. Anthony LaPierre and David Fleming each shot a 39 for the Hawks while Jacob Hipilito, Tyler Caldon, and Eric Farrell each shot a 41.

Oliver Ames, 154 @ Canton, 163 – Final – Oliver Ames stayed atop the standings in the Davenport division, securing a win on the road over Canton at Blue Hill Country Club. Battling the wind and rain, as well as the Bulldogs, the Tigers had a strong showing. Senior Michael McGinnis and sophomore Braden Shapiro each shot a 38 on the day to share medalist honors for OA, while juniors Lucas Riley and Ryan Smith each finished with a 39. Canton’s Huck McCready had a team-best round of 40 while Brendan Tourgee, Joey Ryan, and Gavin McMahon each shot a 41.

North Attleboro, 161 @ Taunton, 183 – Final – North Attleboro senior Jake Gaskin had a great performance, battling the elements to card a medalist round of 36 to lead the Rocketeers to a win on the road over Taunton at Segregansett Country Club. Sophomore Tyson Laviano added a 40 in the win, Ishan Kohli added a 41, and Jordan Paradis rounded out the scoring for the visitors with a 44. Agricola, Macrina Lead KP in Comeback at Mansfield

MANSFIELD, Mass. – In the playoffs, winning and losing games generally comes down to execution in crucial moments. That is especially true when it is two league rivals that know each other well and would love to advance at the other’s expense.

After King Philip traveled to Alumni Field and knocked out Mansfield 6-5 with a strong second half comeback in the Div. 1 South first round game, the one word that both coaches used to define why the Warriors came out on top was execution.

“We put a lot of time in practice to different defensive scenarios,” said KP coach Jacob Kravitz, “and we used everything at least once even if it was just for one possession. Everybody on ‘D’ had a lot on their plate from a playbook perspective and they executed everything.”

Mansfield coach Tim Frias was blunt in his assessment of the second half. He said, “They didn’t make mistakes and we made a lot of mistakes. They did very well and they had a great game plan going into it.

“It really came down to their players executing and our players not.”

The Hornets were executing early and built a 4-2 lead at the break. In fact it took only 44 seconds for Jarrett Saunders to open the scoring with a low angle shot that snuck past Paul Macrina. KP nearly tied it late in the first with a great passing move in transition only to have Harry Fallon hit the post.

With 2.4 left in the quarter, Billy Grant made it 2-0 with a shot from straightaway that Macrina got a piece of and appeared to have kept out, only to have the ball trickle past him and over the line.

KP responded in the second quarter to tie it. John Deluca got the first with a shot that bounced over the head of Mansfield goalie Sean Powers (15 saves). Fallon tied it with 6:04 left to halftime when he snared a rebound and went behind his back to find the top corner.

Mansfield again found late goals to regain the lead. Ryan Smith was involved in both, scoring the first when he snagged a loose ball on the edge of the crease and then taking advantage of a bad turnover to assist on a goal by Sam O’Connell, who matched Fallon with the creativity of his finish.

Coming out of halftime, the Warriors took control of the game. KP would score the next four goals between the third and fourth quarters to take the lead, while its defense continued to shut down the Mansfield attack. Even when the Hornets did get chances to possess the ball, they rushed their chances and allowed KP to heap even more pressure on the Mansfield defense.

“Not settling and not playing our game and that really showed in the second half,” said Frias. “Really it was something that we hadn’t done all season.”

Kravitz credited Macrina for sparking his team at the break. The junior goalie followed up his halftime team talk with a stellar showing in the second half, making nine of his 11 saves to regularly deny the Hornets another goal.

“I see it all the time,” said Kravitz with a smile. “He’s just always that good and he’s a great person too.

“At halftime, the first person to say anything was Paul and he said, we can’t get down, we can’t blame anyone, we can only win it as a team. That was probably a big part of that second half.”

Anthony Truini got the comeback started with a lefty shot to the bottom corner on the run within the first minute of the third quarter. With three minutes left in the third, Sam Agricola popped up in transition off an assist by Zach D’Amico to tie the game at 4-4.

“He matched up against two or three different all-league midfielders today (Connor Finerty, Hunter Ferreira, and Billy Grant) and did a great job,” said Kravitz of D’Amico, who he called an underrated part of the team’s success. “He was also the one man clear on the timeout that ended up icing the game.”

Early in the fourth quarter Agricola struck again off an assist from Deluca. He sniped the top corner to make it 5-4. Seven minutes later, Tim Watson forced a turnover in the attacking zone and fed Agricola for another rip into the corner to make it 6-4.

“He’s tough,” said Kravitz of Agricola. “He takes elbows and sticks and hits and he doesn’t care and he puts the ball on the cage.”

Grant took advantage of a man-up situation to fire in his second of the game and cut the lead back to one. With 1:04 remaining, Jon Reed had one last chance for the Hornets to try and tie it. He was open on the edge of the crease and had time to throw several fakes but Macrina still managed to read the play and stuff the chance.

“Paul is an unbelievable goalie,” said Frias of Macrina. “He did it all last year and he’s doing it again this year especially at the right time getting hot.”

King Philip (11-8) will face the winner of Newton North and Natick in the quarterfinals.

Stoughton, 8 @ Canton, 5 – Final – Stoughton’s Nico Parmeggiani improved to 5-0 on the season, tossing 5.1 innings with just three earned runs allowed. Pat Hagerty paced Stoughton’s offense from the lead off spot, going 3-4 with an RBI and a stolen base and Ryan Sullivan also added three hits, a stolen base and a run scored for the Black Knights. Joe Piana broke up a 2-2 game in the fifth inning with a two run single, Justin Hutchinson had a pair of hits and Doug Seaman (2-4, two RBI) helped cement the win with a home run in the top of the seventh.

Foxboro, 1 @ Sharon, 0 – Final – Aaron Wentling dazzled on the mound, striking out seven in a complete game two-hit shutout effort for the Warriors. Foxboro’s lone run came via junior Cam Feldman with an RBI fielder’s choice.

North Attleboro, 5 @ Franklin, 6 – Final – North Attleboro plated four runs in the first inning but Franklin’s bullpen limited the Rocketeers to just three hits over the final 6.2 innings and the Panthers offense chipped away to get the win and qualify for the state tournament. Bryan Woelfel came in with one out and the bases loaded in the first and was able to limit the damage for Franklin. Woelfel went five innings, allowing two hits and one earned run while striking out three. Ryan Morse got the win, allowing just a hit in 1.2 innings. Franklin scored a run in the first, two more in the third and two more in the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. North tied the game in the top of the sixth but sophomore Steven Luttazi scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth for the Panthers. Sophomore Jason Ulrickson went 2-3 and knocked in a pair of runs, Mike Skaza was 1-1 with a pair of walks, an RBI and a run scored and Tyler Gomes went 1-3 with an RBI and a double. Ryan Hodgkins (2-4) scored twice for Franklin and Cam Benham scored once. Andy Katch went 2-3 for North while Zach DeMattio had two RBI for Big Red.

Oliver Ames, 10 @ Milford, 4 – Final – Senior Kevin Geary notched his first career win on the mound as the Tigers rallied from a 3-1 deficit to take the lead. Sophomore Matt Muir cleared the bases with a three run triple, giving the Tigers the lead. Chris Romero, Josh Minuskin and Ryan Adams each had three hits on the day for OA while Muir, Matt Mancini and Chris Pearsons each had two.

Mansfield, 6 @ Attleboro, 0 – Final – Mansfield senior Maddie Letendre tossed her first no-hitter of the season, striking out seven in the win. The Hornets took a 1-0 lead in the fifth and then tacked on five more runs in the sixth. Consecutive singles from Bri Homer, Jocelyn Reardon and Marissa Staffier resulted in the first run. In the sixth inning, Kara Bendanillo singled, Mady Bendanillo walked, Maddie Letendre had an RBI single, Rachel Carafa had a two RBI single, Reardon knocked in a pair with a double, Marissa Staffier knocked in another run and Megan Letendre singled.

Canton, 3 @ Stoughton, 7 – Final – Karly Estremera and Sam Tullis set the pace for Stoughton’s offense, each scoring two runs each. Estremera hit a triple and stole two bases including a delayed steal of home while Sam Tullis added a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the fifth. Gina Carafa pitched seven innings, striking out five while giving up one earned run.

Sharon, 1 @ Foxboro, 9 – Final – Foxboro celebrated its seniors with a hit parade, totaling 12 as a team. Emma Rohan struck out 10 while allowing just three base runners (two hits and a walk). Offensively, Kelli McCarthy went 2-4 with two RBI, Hannah Davis was 3-4 with a home run, a pair of doubles and three RBI, Kelly Fisher and Kayley Tran each went 2-4 while Chelsea Gibbons was 2-3 on the day for the Warriors.

North Attleboro, 4 @ Franklin, 5 – Final – The Panthers used a suicide squeeze to score the winning run in bottom of the seventh for the win. Olivia DiGiacomo laid down a bunt with one out to score courtesy runner Kerry Blaney for the win. Maddie Connelly got things started in the final inning with a lead off double and moved to third on a single from Clara DeCarvalho (2-4, RBI double), who moved to second on the throw. A passed ball gave Franklin a shot to score the run but North was able to get the runner at home. After a walk to Alexx Niss (2-3, RBI double), DiGiacomo squeezed in the run. Before the winning run, Franklin rallied from a 4-2 deficit to tie the game in the sixth. Olivia Haba (2-3) led off with a single and pinch hitter Kim Moulton blasted a two-run home run to the game. Caroline D’Aprile got the win for Franklin, striking out five. Meg Barlow had three hits for the Rocketeers and Mycala Moody and Kaylea Sherman each had two.

Taunton, 2 @ King Philip, 0 – Final – Strong defense helped anchor Taunton’s season sweep over the Warriors. Taunton head coach Dave Lewry said Jordan Wade played great at shortstop and Meghan Navarro did the same at second base. Lewry also pointed to Bailey Clapp’s outfield assist in the fifth, throwing out a runner with Sarah Bagge applying the tag at home. Aimee Kistner struck out four, allowing three hits in a complete game shutout. Liana Duarte went 2-4 with a run scored and a stolen base, Jaime Brown was 1-3 with a double and Bagge went 2-3.

Milford, 15 @ Oliver Ames, 1 – Final (5 inn.) – Milford clinched at least a share of its fourth straight Davenport title, winning at least a share of the division ever since joining the Hockomock. Jess Tomaso was a perfect 4-4 at the plate, including a two run home run, and finished with five RBI. Kaitlyn DeCapua knocked in four runs on three hits, including a double, while Megan Jacques went 2-4 with an RBI. Kelley Reichert struck out four while scattering three hits for Milford. Jamie Gottwald went 2-2 with an RBI and a double for OA.

Foxboro, 6 @ Mansfield, 10 – Final – Mansfield built a 9-1 lead in the fourth quarter and held off a late push by the Warriors. Ryan Smith had two goals and two assists to lead the Hornets while Connor Finerty also found the back of the net twice. Josh Schafer, Sam O’Connell, Hunter Ferreira (two assists), Joe Cox, Billy Grant and Jon Reed each scored once for Mansfield. Sean Powers made 13 saves in net for the Hornets.

Franklin, 13 @ Oliver Ames, 1 – Final

North Attleboro, 6 @ King Philip, 8 – Final – King Philip built a 4-1 lead by the end of the first quarter and never trailed in a battle against North Attleboro. Senior Sam Agricola led the way offensively with three goals and an assist and junior Tim Watson potted two goals and had one assist. Harry Fallon had two helpers for KP while Anthony Truini, John DeLuca and Zach D’Amico (six ground balls) each scored once. Steven Eaton led the Warriors with 10 ground balls and KP head coach Jacob Kravitz praised the work of sophomore midfielder Nate Minkwitz (five ground balls) for his excellent defense.

Oliver Ames’ Erin Fitzgerald netted her 100th career goal for the Tigers in the game while Kendall Clifford also scored and Abby Duvall and Olivia Piazza each had an assist. OA’s Ariana Waldorf had 21 saves in net.

Canton, 4 @ Stoughton, 1 – Final – The Bulldogs got a clean sweep in singles play and earned another win at doubles to beat Stoughton. North Attleboro’s Julia Mark won 6-4, 6-4 at first singles, Jordan Willis won 6-0, 6-2 at second singles and Allie Grinavic swept 6-0, 6-0 at third singles. Hearrold III also paced the Tigers at the plate with a pair of hits and a pair of RBI. Luke Figueira and Matt Machado each had a pair of hits for the Tigers as well. Max Bowden knocked in a pair of runs and sophomore Joe Manchester had one RBI.

Oliver Ames, 3 @ Canton, 8 – Final – Senior Griffin Jerrier stole the show on the mound for Canton, striking out nine in a complete game effort, scattering six hits and only allowing two earned runs. Mike McMahon (double, RBI) and Joe Bires (run) both had a pair of hits for Canton while Jim Jenkins and Sean Doyle each knocked in a pair of runs for the Bulldogs. For Oliver Ames, sophomore Matt Muir had two hits.

Milford, 5 @ Foxboro, 6 – Final – Foxboro’s Jesse Galanti connected for a two run single, turning a 5-4 deficit into a 6-5 lead in the sixth inning and the Warriors were able to hold on. Nick Wright picked up his third save of the season, pitching a scoreless top half of the seventh inning. Andrew Block tossed six innings for the win for Foxboro. Aaron Wentling pitched in with a team-best three hits while Darren Kelly and Wright each had two hits for the Warriors.

Mansfield, 1 @ Franklin, 12 – Final – The Panthers’ offense roared to life with all nine players in the lineup getting either a hit or scoring a run. Nick Santucci and Ryan Hodgkins each had a pair of hits and a pair of RBI for Franklin while Josh Macchi knocked in four runs and had a double. Jake Lyons, Mike Skaza, Jason Ulrickson and Alex Bissanti each had an RBI for Franklin as well. Ulrickson got the win on the mound for Franklin, tossing six innings with just two hits allowing and four strikeouts. Classmate Matt Foley closed the game with a scoreless seventh inning.

North Attleboro, 0 @ King Philip, 2 – Final – Jack DiCenso tossed a complete game shutout for the Warriors, scattering five hits while striking out six in the win. King Philip scored both of its runs in the first inning. After Kyle Guenthner walked, junior Will Weir plated him with an RBI double. Weir then came around to score on a single from DiCenso.

Sharon, 2 @ Stoughton, 4 – Final – Nico Parmeggiani threw a complete game for Stoughton, scattering five hits with only one walk and seven strikeouts to earn the win. Stoughton broke the tie game open with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Sharon sophomore Max Tarlin had his second straight strong start for the Eagles, going 5 2/3 with five strikeouts and two earned runs, while allowing just two hits. Junior catcher Jake Marglous had a two RBI single for the Eagles.

Softball
Attleboro, 0 @ Taunton, 9 – Final – Aimee Kistner (four innings, win) and Courtney Fisher (three innings) combined to throw a four-hit shutout and totaled 12 strikeouts in the win. Kya Enos had two hits, including a two-run home run while Jordan Wade had a pair of hits and a pair of RBI, Meghan Navarro had a triple and two RBI and Liana Duarte had a pair of hits for the Tigers.

Canton, 1 @ Oliver Ames, 8 – Final – Oliver Ames freshman pitcher Kayla Georgeu only allowed three hits, striking out four in a complete game effort. Missy Krim went 2-3 with a pair of runs scored and had one stolen base, Jamie Gottwald was 2-2 with an RBI and a run scored, Victoria Ziner was 2-3 with a pair of RBI and Katie Pursley (1-2) knocked in a pair of runs for the Tigers and also scored a run. Also for the Tigers, Katie Mills (1-1) knocked in Jordyn Leite (1-1, double).

Mansfield, 2 @ Franklin, 0 – Final – Mansfield senior pitcher Maddie Letendre kept the Panthers at bay, allowing just four hits while striking out seven. Freshman Megan Letendre paced the offense with three hits while junior Liz Mackin socked a pair of hits. Mady Bendanillo (RBI) and Amanda Giambanco each had a hit for the Hornets. Mansfield cashed in for both of their runs in the fifth inning with Bendanillo single knocking in Megan Letendre and Maddie Letendre knocking in Bendanillo.

King Philip, 6 @ North Attleboro, 5 – Final – After having just one hit through five innings, North Attleboro rallied for five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game. But King Philip sophomore Elise Pereira’s solo home run to lead off the seventh inning proved to be the difference. Kali Magane came in and pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning to preserve the win for the Warriors. After KP scored two runs in both the second and fifth innings, North Attleboro used a grand slam from Kaylea Sherman to tie the game in the sixth. Christa Wagner, Pereira, Magane, Brooke Taute and Meghan Gorman all had two hits for KP. Mycala Moody and Gina Miceli each had a pair of hits for the Rocketeers.

Stoughton, 5 @ Sharon, 1 – Final – Stoughton’s Shannon Flaherty tossed a complete game without surrendering an earned run. Flaherty also struck out nine while issuing three walks. Jeni D’Andrea, Gina Caraffa, Karly Estramera, Sam Tullis and Flaherty each had hits for the Black Knights.

Boys Lacrosse
Attleboro, 6 @ Oliver Ames, 8 – Final – Oliver Ames senior attack Matt Gilson scored four goals and sophomore attack Eric LeBlanc added a pair of goals for the Tigers.

Canton, 14 @ Milford, 1 – Final – Jack Dillon, Matt Mackay and Dan Cohen all scored their first career goals in the win for the Panthers. Dylan Cunningham had a pair of saves in a shutout fourth quarter in the cage. Canton head coach Bill Bendell said DJ Trerice played well at midfield and both Brian Albert and George Kent played great defense.

King Philip, 11 @ Sharon, 9 – Final – King Philip overcame from a four goal deficit at halftime and a three minute locked in penalty to start the fourth quarter to beat the Eagles. Sharon held a 3-0 lead after a quarter and a 5-1 lead at the break. Sharon led 7-5 going into the final quarter but an illegal stick forced KP into a man down situation for three minutes locked in. KP senior Steven Eaton kept the Warriors rolling, setting up a pair of man-down goals for KP to tie the game less than halfway through the final quarter. Junior Tim Watson scored one of his three goals with just 2:51 left to put KP up 10-8. After KP pulled within one, Eaton iced the game with a goal with 15 seconds left. Watson finished with three goals and four assists while Sam Agricola found the back of the net four times. Harry Fallon scored twice and had one assist, Anthony Truini scored once and Michael Curtin had one assist for KP. Junior goalie Paul Macrina notched 13 of his 21 saves in the second half for KP.

North Attleboro, 4 @ Mansfield, 11 – Final – Mansfield senior defenseman Josh Schafer set the tone early for the Hornets, going coast to coast and finding the back of the net for the first goal of the game and Mansfield held a 4-1 lead at the halftime break. The Hornets continued the attack with a 7-3 second half. Ryan Smith scored three goals and had an assist and Jon Reed found the back of the net twice for Mansfield. Connor Finerty, Billy Grant (two assists), Jarrett Saunders, Hunter Ferreira (assist) and Sam O’Connell each scored once for Mansfield.

Mansfield, 10 @ North Attleboro, 19 – Final – Hana Caster led the Rocketeers with five goals and five assists, while sophomore Mackenzie Rosenberg added six goals for North. Brooke Ebert played well in goal, according to North coach Mike Vitelli.

Taunton, 5 @ New Bedford, 8 – Final – Taunton goalie Lorna Li made 20 saves in the cage for the Tigers but the Whalers were able to get the close win. Abbey Kingman scored twice and Kayla Phillips, Lindsay Sneyd and Riana Winslow each scored once for Taunton while Annie Tate had an assist.

Taunton, 3 @ Attleboro, 2 – Final – The Tigers got a pair of wins in singles play and clinched the win with a win at first doubles. Freshman Brett Beaulieu won 6-2, 6-2 at first singles for Taunton and Mike Briggs picked up a 6-0, 6-1 at third singles. The team of Connor Briggs and Charlie Fiske won 6-0, 3-6, 6-0 at first doubles for the Tigers. The team of freshmen Tessa Garufi and Elizabeth Elsner took a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 win at second doubles to help clinch the win for the Hornets. Stoughton, 12 @ Attleboro, 4 – Final (5.5 inn.) – Stoughton’s offense came to life, plating nine runs in the first five innings and tacking on three more in the top of the sixth before the game was called due to the weather. Ryan Sullivan went 2-4 with two RBI and two runs, Joe Piana went 2-4 with two runs and three RBI, Pat Hagerty contributed a clutch 2-out two RBI single, scored a run, and stole a base, Jack Connelly had a stolen base as well, with two walks and two runs scored and Luke Johnson scored three runs and had a double and RBI. Shortstop Doug Seaman played well defensively, overcoming the elements to record five assists and a put out with no errors. Nico Parmeggiani got the win on the mound, going five innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on just three hits with three strikeouts.

Franklin, 0 @ Canton, 2 – Final – Kevin Powers got the win on the mound for the Bulldogs, going the distance by tossing a complete game, giving up six hits while striking out three and issuing just one walk. Powers helped his cause at the plate, going 2-4 at the plate with an RBI. Jim Jenkins was 2-3, Mike McMahon was 1-3 with the run scored in a stolen base and junior Kevin Monagle had two hits for Canton.

Mansfield, 5 @ Foxboro, 6 – Final – Aaron Wentling earned the win, pitching six innings and senior Nick Wright came in to pitch the seventh inning for the save. Both AJ Bubencik and Jesse Galanti had two RBI singles for the Warriors.

Oliver Ames, 2 @ King Philip, 5 – Final – With the game knotted 2-2, the Warriors plated three runs in the fifth inning to break open the game. Jake Cavanagh threw a complete game for the Warriors, scattering eight hits and striking out six. King Philip’s defense played error free and the offense belted out nine hits. Jon Rolfe went 3-3 on the day with an RBI while Jake Lannigan and Jack DiCenso each knocked in a pair of runs for the Warriors. Ryan Adams and Matt Mancini each had two hits for the Tigers.

Milford, 0 @ Taunton, 3 – Final (5 inn.) – In a rain shortened game, the Tigers took advantage in the first and fourth innings to get the win. Sophomore Christian Simoes smacked a two run double in the first inning, scoring Matt Machado and Max Bowden. Senior Kevin Griffin added an RBI single in the fourth, knocking in sophomore Joe Manchester (hit, stolen base). Senior Luke Figueira improved to 5-0 on the season, throwing five innings, striking out six with just two hits allowed.

Sharon, 7 @ North Attleboro, 5 – Final (6 inn.) – Sharon took advantage of a five-run second inning to get the win in a rain shortened game. Mark Botaish reached base four times, going 2-2 with a double, Aiden Arnold had a three-run double and Spencer Singer went 2-3. Andrew Filipkowski gave up two hits in 2 2/3 innings in relief for save. North Attleboro’s John Brennan had a double and a home run, knocking in four runs for the Rocketeers.

Softball
Attleboro, 6 @ Stoughton, 7 – Final – Stoughton scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out the win, which was capped by Shannon Flaherty’s walk-off single to right. Flaherty also picked up the win in the circle after pitching a scoreless seventh in relief of Gina Carafa, who had allowed three earned runs in six innings.Jordan Lyons went 2-4 for the Black Knights and scored a pair of runs. Carafa, Courtney Campbell, and Bri Ferrandiz each went 2-3 for Stoughton.

Franklin, 14 @ Canton, 2 – Final – Franklin broke the game open with an eight run third inning, tacking on five more in the final two innings after scoring one in the opening game. Alexx Niss went 3-4 with two RBI, a triple, and three runs scored, Olivia DiGiacomo went 4-5 and knocked in four runs and Olivia Haba, Julia Arms and Alyssa DaSilva combined for five RBI. Courtesy runner Kerry Blaney scored three runs for the Panthers. Emily Sawyer tossed a complete game, striking out four to earn the win.

Mansfield, 8 @ Foxboro, 5 – Final – It was a game to remember for freshmen twin sisters Mady and Kara Bendanillo. Mady went 4-4 at the play with two runs knocked in and Kara added three hits, knocking in two more runs. Liz Mackin also knocked in a pair of runs on two hits and Rachel Carafa had one RBI and two hits. Megan Letendre, Maddie Letendre, Marissa Staffier and Jocelyn Reardon all had a hit each for the Hornets, who totaled 16 hits. Maddie Letendre got the win for Mansfield, surrendering five hits while striking out 13.

King Philip, 10 @ Oliver Ames, 0 – Final – Oliver Ames freshmen Kayla Georgeu kept King Philip’s high powered offense in check through five innings but the Warriors exploded for eight runs in the the sixth inning. Christa Wagner had three hits while Meghan Gorman, Sydney Phillips and Elise Pereira each had a double in the sixth inning. Kali Magane struck out 11 to earn the win. Jamie Gottwald, Victoria Ziner, Caroline Mahoney (double), Missy Krim and Emma Papargiris each had a hit for Oliver Ames.

North Attleboro, 10 @ Sharon, 0 – Final – Amelia Murphy threw her first career perfect game and helped her own cause offensively, scoring three runs. Kristina Murphy paced the Rocketeers’ offense, going 3-4 with a home run and five RBI. Jordan Sharpe had three hits, Gina Miceli and Liz Morehouse each had two hits and Mycala Moody had eight assists defensively.

Attleboro, 2 @ Foxboro, 12 – Final

Canton, 9 @ Oliver Ames, 2 – Final – Canton jumped out to an 8-0 lead on its way to a win over the Tigers. Head coach Bill Bendell said Chris Albert and Dylan Cunningham both played well in the cage and added seniors Dan Nadeau and Ben Berkowitz stood out on defense.

North Attleboro, 6 @ Franklin, 11 – Final – Franklin held a two goal lead at halftime (5-3) and went on to score six second half goals. Eric Civetti had five goals and an assist and Austin Kent Scored twice with one assist. Justin O’Callahan pitched in with three assists and freshman Jacob Alexander won 17/21 faceoffs.

King Philip, 5 @ Mansfield, 8 – Final – Mansfield goalie Sean Powers was strong in the cage, helping the Hornets edge the Warriors. Hunter Ferreria and Ryan Smith each scored twice for Mansfield while Cullen Murphy, Connor Finerty and Sam O’Connell each scored once. Both Grant and O’Connell also had an assist for the Hornets, who led 4-3 at halftime. King Philip’s Tim Watson scored twice and had one assist while Harry Fallon, Sam Agricola and Anthony Truini each scored once for the Warriors.

NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. – The Hornets got off to a great start against Kelley-Rex rival North Attleboro in a non-league meeting on Friday afternoon. Behind two of Bill Grant’s three goals, Mansfield took a 4-0 lead in the first half and that turned out to be the difference.

The Rocketeers closed the gap with a fourth quarter rally but in the end the early deficit proved to be too much and Mansfield held on for an 8-5 victory.

“That was the really difference that our guys popped out to,” said Mansfield coach Tim Frias, “and, you know, North is a great team, they’re well-coached and you see them work hard after every ball, so nothing’s safe.”

North Attleboro coach Kevin Young, whose young team only has three seniors in the starting lineup, admitted that the lack of intensity at the start hurt on Friday.

He said, “That class last year was nice and strong, carried the load, so these guys have to step up and learn and they are. The second half was good…made a push at the end.

“We just have to get confident, start working together, and not make JV kid mistakes.”

Grant opened the scoring inside the opening minute off a feed from Connor Finerty. The score would stay the same for nearly seven minutes before Grant won a ground ball and then fed it to Ryan Smith, who had his first shot saved by Danny MacDonald but batted in the rebound.

Sam O’Connell made it 3-0 for the Hornets before the end of the first quarter off a great pass from Jon Reed from the ‘X.’ The Mansfield passing moved the North defense around and got MacDonald to chase out of his crease for a second to allow space in front for O’Connell.

“That’s the philosophy we’re working on on offense,” said Frias. “The faster you move the ball, the more opportunities you’ll get, especially with a lot of guys that can shoot. Move it around and you’ll get open and they’re getting it.”

North had a few chances in the first quarter. Sean Powers made three of his seven saves in the half and the Rocketeers hit the post twice, including a chance for Zack McGowan that smacked off the bar from close range. One shot by Owen Costello slipped past Powers but the muddy field held the ball just short of the line and the goalie was able to cover in time to prevent the goal.

Grant tacked on his second goal of the game on a man-up three minutes into the second quarter, but North was finally able to get on the board on its own EMO when freshman Nick Ward fired a shot inside the post.

In the second half, Finerty restored the four-goal lead on an assist by Hunter Ferreira, as the senior cut through the middle of the North defense. On a turnover, Ferreira got his first to make it 6-1 and it looked like Mansfield could run away with the game.

But, North had an answer. Costello beat his man to the middle and despite heavy contact was able to get a shot away and beat Powers. Shortly after, Colin Young beat the Mansfield defense in transition after a strong clear and made it 6-3.

Frias laughed when asked if the muddy field affected his team, which is used to playing on turf. He said, “It slows you down and they take advantage of it on some of their clears. It was brilliant how they had great clears and we almost lost it based off of that and make it into a race.”

The North defense started to clamp down after the break and limited the chances for the Hornets and was aided by MacDonald, who made five of his nine saves in the second half.

“We have Danny in net this year, last year he was on attack,” explained Young. “That’s his position and I expect him to go far. He’s kind of a young kid too but he stepped up and made some huge saves. He’s been outstanding for us.”

The defense could only hold out so long, as Grant beat his close defender with a head fake to the back of the cage and then a spin move into the middle before depositing his shot to MacDonald’s left to complete his hat trick.

“That always helps,” said Frias of getting a hat trick from Grant. “Between him, Hunter, and Connor you figure we’re going to get one out of one of those guys.”

Smith fed Reed for his second goal of the game to make it 8-3, but North did not give up and managed to cut into the lead with a pair of quick transitions in the final minute.

McGowan beat his defender and then finished just under the bar and then Collin Young tacked on his second on a man-up in the final 30 seconds to cut the lead to three.

“That sense of urgency has to come all game,” said Young, “it can’t come just because we need a goal with a minute left. I think they’ll mature. The kids I have now will grow into people as strong as the teams we graduated.”

Frias admitted he was starting “down the path” to being nervous as North scored two quick goals, but he was proud of his team’s strong start to the season.

“That’s a credit to these seniors,” he said. “They’ve played on some very good teams, we’ve just had a hard time grinding it out. They’ve lived it so now they’re grinding it and they’re coming together.”

Mansfield (4-1) will face Hanover on Tuesday, while North Attleboro (2-2) will travel to Taunton.

Mansfield’s offense exploded with Kevin Dow and Mike Arnold each going 3-4 with three runs scored, Jake Tryder going 2-3 with two RBI and Tyrone Pascual went 2-3 with an RBI for the Hornets.

King Philip, 6 @ North Attleboro, 5 – Final – King Philip took a 3-0 lead in the top half of the first inning but had to battle back after the Rocketeers combined for five runs in the first and second innings. Will Weir had a three run home run that scored Stephan MacMeans (single) and Ben Furfari (walk). The Warriors then tied the game with a pair of runs in the fifth inning. Weir reached after being hit by a pitch and advanced on a single from Jon Rolfe. Both runners advanced on a double steal and Jack DiCenso followed it up with a two-run hit. Ryan Coulter scored the go-ahead run in the sixth after doubling, moving to second on a Ryan Guenette single and coming home on a wild pitch. DiCenso got the win for KP, coming on in relief and tossing 5.2 shutout innings while striking out seven. North Attleboro’s Brian Kleczkowski was 2-4 with an RBI.

Stoughton, 9 @ Sharon, 1 – Final – Jack Connelly went 2-4 with a run scored and two RBI and Doug Seaman was 2-4 with two runs and an RBI and to lead the Black Knights’ offense. Justin Hutchinson got the win on the mound for Stoughton, going five innings allowing just one earned run on three hits with no walks and four strikeouts. Barry Cooke pitched two no-hit innings in relief.

Softball
Taunton, 13 @ Attleboro, 0 – Final – Courtney Fisher didn’t allow a run in six innings of work, walking just a pair and allowing two hits while striking out seven to get the win. Jordan Wade went 3-4 with a double and three RBI to lead the Tigers’ offense. Liana Duarte went 3-4 with an RBI and a stolen base, Meghan Navarro was 2-3 with a double and an RBI and Jaime Brown was 2-4 with a double and a triple and a run batted in.

Foxboro, 2 @ Milford, 14 – Final – Emily Piergustavo and Jess Tomaso each drove in three runs to pace the Scarlet Hawks’ offense. Piergustavo went 3-3 with a double and three runs scored while Tomaso was 3-4 with a home run, a pair of doubles and two runs scored. Maggie Farrell added two hits, including a triple, two RBI and two runs scored while Shannon Cormier had a double and a run scored. Ali Atherton struck out nine in six innings of work, allowing three hits and a pair of runs to get the win.

Franklin, 2 @ Mansfield, 7 – Final – Freshman Mady Bendanillo had a career day, connecting on a pair of home runs to lead the Hornets. Bendanillo hit a solo home run in the first inning and then connected for her first career grand slam in the second inning. The tandem of pitcher Maddie Letendre and catcher Bri Homer limited the Panthers at the plate. Letendre struck out six in a complete game while Homer played great behind the plate according to head coach Lori Letendre. Maddie Letendre helped her cause at the plate, going 2-3, while Megan Letendre, Kara Bendanillo, Rachel Carafa, Homer and Liz Mackin all had hits. For Franklin, Ally Shea went 2-4 with a run scored, Clara DeCarvalho was 2-4 and Alyssa Dasilva had a pair of RBIs in the top of the seventh.

North Attleboro, 2 @ King Philip, 11 – Final – Kali Magane went the distance for the Warriors, allowing only three hits and one earned run while striking out 13 and walking none for the win. Offensively, KP had 12 hits with Christa Wagner and Haley McCasland paving the way. Wagner scored three runs while McCasland knocked in three runs. For North Attleboro, Mycala Moody had a double and scored two runs while Liz Morehouse added a single and an RBI.

Sharon, 0 @ Stoughton, 4 – Final – Shannon Flaherty struck out 11 in a complete game shutout, allowing just four hits and issuing just two walks to get the win. Karly Estremera had three singles and scored a run for the Black Knights while Brianna Ferrandiz knocked in a pair of runs for Stoughton.

Franklin, 7 @ Cohasset, 8 – Final – Senior Austin Kent and sophomore Eric Civetti both scored a hat trick and registered an assist for the Panthers. Head coach Lou Verrochi said Sophomore Connor O’Rourke was superb in goal with nine saves.

King Philip, 6 vs. Bishop Feehan, 8 – Final – Sam Agricola scored five goals for the Warriors and assisted on the sixth but King Philip couldn’t overcome Feehan. Freshman Colin DeVellis scored his first career goal for King Philip.

Mansfield, 8 @ North Attleboro, 5 – Final – Billy Grant scored a hat trick to lead the Hornets, who jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first half. Jon Reed added a pair of goals and Ryan Smith and Hunter Ferreira each had one. North was led by Colin Young and Zack McGowan each with two goals, while Nick Ward added one.

Oliver Ames, 10 @ Milford, 4 – Final – Senior Matt Gilson notched a hat trick in the game, putting him at 104 career points.

North Attleboro, 20 @ Mansfield, 7 – Final – Hana Caster was the top scorer for the Rocketeers with seven goals.

Milford, 8 @ Oliver Ames, 22 – Final – Erin Fitzgerald found the back of the net four times, adding a pair of assists to lead OA. Sam Lang scored four goals and also added an assist in the win. Ariana Waldorf made 17 saves and head coach Craig Gardner said Waldorf was “stellar” in net. Kendall Clifford (three goals, three assists), Sofia Masciarelli (three goals, one assist) and Abby Duvall (three goals) helped contribute to Milford’s offense.

Taunton, 5 vs. New Bedford, 8 – Final
