Attleboro, 13 @ Dartmouth, 7 – Final– Sophomore Dakota Kirby knocked in a team-high four runs on three hits to lead the Bombardiers. Nate Tellier went 2-3 with a pair of RBI, pair of runs and pair of stolen bases while Robbie Araujo went 3-5 with an RBI.
Canton, 7 vs. Cohasset, 0 – Final– Canton senior Kevin Powers allowed just three hits in a complete game shutout effort, striking out six on 73 pitches for the win. Jim Jenkins was a perfect 3-3 at the plate with a pair of singles and a double, Matt Casamento went 2-2 with a stolen base and two runs scored and Jimmy Hamrock scored a run.
Sharon, 5 @ King Philip, 3 – Final – The Eagles scored three runs in the third and added two more in the fifth to build the lead. Sharon freshman left handed pitcher Noah Kamens made his varsity debut, tossing 5.2 innings for his first career win. Jordan Chabot went 2-4 with a double and a triple and knocked in three runs for Sharon.
Stoughton, 1 @ Brockton, 0 – Final– Stoughton’s Justin Hutchinson tossed a one-hit complete game shutout, striking out five to lead the Black Knights to a win at Campanelli Stadium. Stoughton’s lone run came in the top of the second when Ryan Sullivan reached on a fielder’s choice. Joe Piana’s two out RBI single plated Sullivan for the lone run of the game.

Attleboro vs. Dartmouth, 4:00
Franklin, 3 vs. Bridgewater-Raynham, 2 – Final– After Bridgewater-Raynham opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with a run, Franklin replied right away in the bottom half. Allie Shea led off with a single and Clara DeCarlvalho reached on an error. Alexx Niss then smashed a three run home run over the fence in centerfield. Caroline D’Aprile struck out five to get the win for Franklin. DeCarvalho also threw out two runners trying to steal with freshman Tara Hartnett applying the tags.
Mansfield, 3 @ Milford, 8 – Final – Maggie Farrell launched a three run home run to center field in the fifth inning, turning a 3-1 deficit into a 4-3 lead and the Scarlet Hawks never looked back. Farrell went 2-4 with four RBI, also having a triple. Kate Irwin went 3-4 with a double, Jess Tomaso was 1-3 with a double, Megan Jacques went 1-2 with an RBI, a double and a walk and Emily Piergustavo went 2-3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Ali Atherton struck out a career-high 14 batters, allowing just one earned run. Mansfield’s Maddie Letendre struck out five while allowing 10 hits.
Oliver Ames, 2 @ Weymouth, 3 – Final– OA’s Victoria Ziner was 2-3 with a double and a solo home run, Katie Pursley was 2-3 with a double, Jordyn Leite was 1-1 with a nice shot to center, and Dalene Gomes knocked in Sarah Tetrault on a suicide squeeze in the 7th. Kayla Georgeu pitched six innings for the Tigers striking out 5 and allowing only one earned run.
Sharon, 2 vs. Milton, 10 – Final – Senior catcher Rachel Usen went 3-for-4 (a double and two singles) with an RBI for the Eagles in the loss. Freshman Jody Goldenberg had an RBI double and sophomore Sam Marglous added a double and a run scored for Sharon.
Taunton, 24 @ Durfee, 0 – Final (5 inn.)– Jordan Wade hit a pair of home runs, knocking in four runs to lead Taunton’s offensive outburst. Courtney Fisher improved to 6-0 in the circle, allowing just one hit and striking out seven. Amber Wainwright had three hits, including a triple and two RBI, Bailey Clapp had three hits and two RBI, Sarah Bagge reached base five times, with two hits and five RBI and Aimee Kistner had two hits and an RBI.

Canton, 12 @ Braintree, 6 – Final – Canton raced out to a 6-1 lead and never looked back in a non-league contest at Braintree. Ben O’Neill scored four goals, including his 100th career goal, passing former Bulldog Pat Ward to become the third highest scorer in program history (103 goals, 49 assists). Shaun Kirby netted a hat trick and had an assist, Dan Dillon scored twice and Mike Shaw, Ryan Lodge and Charlie O’Connor each scored once for Canton.
Taunton, 1 @ King Philip, 20 – Final– The Warriors had 13 different players find the back of the net in the big win. Sam Agricola scored all five of his goals in the first quarter while Harry Fallon had one goal and five assists in the same frame. Zach D’Amico and Evan Megura each scored twice for KP while freshmen Aiden Bender and Tyler Bartlett scored their first career goals. Taunton’s Andrew Wellington scored the lone goal for the Tigers.

Boys Volleyball
Taunton, 3 vs. Brockton, 2 – Final– Taunton was just a point away from getting swept by the Boxers, trailing 24-20 in the third game after losing the first two games. But the Tigers clawed back with a 6-0 run to clinch the third game and went on to win the final two to get the win (20-25, 17-25, 26-24, 25-16, 15-10). Taunton received a great all around effort from David Perry, Malik Charles, Lance Law, Lens Esquil, and Collin Hunter. Head coach Toby Chaperon credited Nate Grant for stepping up at setter after Ricardo DaFonseca departed with an injury. Chaperon also noted that Dawid Fusiecki and Jason Khang were solid on defense.

Attleboro, 9 @ Sharon, 0 – Final – Senior Tyler Stowe struck out six in six innings of work, allowing just two hits to earn the win. Will Carter went 2-2 with two RBI and a pair of stolen bases while Pat Collins also added a pair of hits and scored two runs. Head coach Matt Bosh noted the strong defense from Nate Tellier at shortstop.
Canton, 5 vs. Fairhaven, 3 – Final – Griffin Jerrier went the distance on the mound, striking out one and issuing just one walk to get the win. At the plate, Jerrier was 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Kevin Powers was 2-3 with a run scored and Joe Peccia was 2-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Jim Jenkins came through with a big hit in the third inning, knocking in a run for the Bulldogs.
Foxboro, 14 @ Dedham, 16 – Final – Jesse Galanti and Darren Kelly each had three hits for the Warriors and A.J. Cavossa added a pair of doubles and drove in three runs.
Milford, 1 @ Mansfield, 3 – Final – Jared Menzer tossed a complete game, scattering six hits and striking out four to earn the win for the Hornets. Jake Tryder went 2-2 with an RBI double and a run scored and Tyrone Pascual was 1-3 with an RBI triple and a run scored for Mansfield.
North Attleboro, 10 @ Central Catholic, 8 – Final – North Attleboro scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to break open a tie game and get the win. Brian Poillucci led off with a triple and scored on a single from Ridge Olsen. Brian Kleczkowski reached on a fielder’s choice and pinch runner Zach Levitsky advanced to second on a walk to Brett Cloutier. Pinch hitter Nick Pedro brought Levitsky home with a single and Bryan Harris plated Clouter with a double. Andy Katch tossed a complete game without issuing any walks, striking out five to earn the win. Sophomore Zach DeMattio paced the offense with three hits and four RBI while Poillucci also had a double in the game.
Taunton, 5 vs. Durfee, 4 – Final – Charles Hearrold III did it all for the Tigers on Tuesday morning. Hearrold III picked five innings, scattering five hits while allowing just one run. At the plate, he had a pair of hits and a pair of RBI. In the bottom of the seventh, he came home to score the winning run on a wild pitch.

Stoughton, 16 @ Milton, 3 – Final – Stoughton had 19 hits in the first game of the doubleheader, including a 3-3 day from senior Sam Tullis, who had a homerun, three RBI, and scored four runs. Nicole Bodette added three hits and six other Black Knights had a pair of hits apiece. Gina Carafa picked up her first win, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out five over four innings.
Stoughton, 6 @ Milton, 3 – Final – Freshman Karly Estremara began the game with a lead-off homer. She finished 3-3 on the day and a single shy of the cycle, while scoring three times, and recorded her fourth straight multi-hit game. Sam Tullis had three hits in both games of the doubleheader and Shannon Flaherty threw a compete game, allowing two earned runs and striking out six Milton hitters.

Franklin, 14 vs. Masconomet, 3 – Final – After leading by just a goal at the halftime break, the Panthers pounced in the second half. Franklin held a 4-3 lead at half before winning the second half 10-0. Senior Austin Kent had six goals and two assists and sophomore Eric Civetti scored five goals with one assist. Connor O’Rourke made seven saves in net while freshman Jacob Alexander had another huge game at the face off X.
King Philip, 8 vs. Hopkinton, 7 – Final – King Philip trailed for the majority of the game but took the lead with 1:09 left in the game behind a goal from Anthony Truini on an assist from freshman Collin DeVellis. Hopkinton leveled the game with 42 seconds to play but John DeLuca scored the game winner for the Warriors with 20 seconds to go off an assist from Harry Fallon. “I’m really proud of the way our team responded after losing tough game against Feehan to come back here and play a strong game against a strong opponent,” head coach Jacob Kravitz said. Sam Agricola had three goals and an assist for KP while Tim Watson scored once and had two assists, Fallon had a goal and an assist, Truini and DeLuca each scored once and Conor Khung came up from the defense to score a goal.

Taunton, 3 vs. Norwood, 0 – Final – The Tigers opened the season with a 3-0 sweep over Norwood, 25-11, 25-21, 25-16. Sophomore Lance Law led the way with 14 kills, 10 digs and three aces while Ricardo DaFonseca picked up right where he left off last year, notching 24 assists. Lens Esquil had five kills and a block, Malik Charles added four kills, three aces and a block and Nate Grant had four kills, and ace and a strong game at the net. TAUNTON, Mass. – A late goal in the second period sparked King Philip to a huge third period, as the Warriors erased a four-goal deficit with six unanswered tallies to top Taunton, 6-4.
Down 4-0 late in the second period, Matt Smith redirected a shot from Clay Geuss into the net to get King Philip on the board, a goal that gave the Warriors hope heading into the third.
“I think it woke the guys up,” King Philip head coach Paul Carlow said. “We definitely needed that. We certainly were not playing as well as we could at that point and we needed something.”
KP then exploded for three goals within the first four minutes of the third period to tie the game. Nick Connor carried the puck from the right corner to bottom of the circle, and a wrist shot snuck through to the goal line, where Collin Cooke finished it off. Just 38 seconds later, Richard Lucente netted a wrist shot from the high slot, and about a minute after that, with King Philip skating with a two man advantage, Geuss added one of his own to even the score.
“Once we got those two goals that really turned the momentum of the game,” Carlow said. “It gave the kids some confidence and they started skating.”
Cooke’s second goal of the game was the game winner, a rebound from a Jeremy Smith shot that gave KP its first lead of the night while the Warriors were on the power play. Jacob Kelly added some insurance for the Warriors with a drive from the left half wall that found the net. KP outshot Taunton 42-31 in the game but had a distinct 21-6 advantage in the third period alone.
“They played an outstanding third period,” Carlow said. “It took a couple goals to get the confidence and that momentum swing, and then once we had it, it was just a matter of time.”
Zack Albert scored the first goal of the game for the Tigers, burying one on the doorstep after a Nick Terry shot was deflected onto his tape. Tyler Pietrzyk then went to work to extend Taunton’s lead, scoring a hat trick in the second period alone. Pietrzyk potted rebounds on shots from Zack Albert and David Perry and then finished a breakaway set up by a Mike Volkmann stretch pass.
“We knew Taunton was 7-3 going in with some really good forwards,” Carlow said. “We knew what they were coming in. I felt like it was going to be a 50-50 game. I felt like we were very evenly matched and it was going to come down to who wanted it more.”
In addition to the goal, Geuss had two assists for King Philip while Connor, Lucente and Jeremy Smith each had one helper. Evan Remmes made 27 saves in net for the win.
Pietrzyk added an assist to his hat trick for a four point night for Taunton, extending his Division 2 South points lead. Brother Trevor Pietrzyk, Terry, Albert, Perry and Volkmann had an assist each.
King Philip (5-4, 3-1 Hockomock) will now look to build off its third period effort with a trip to Franklin on Sunday night at 6 p.m. Taunton, now 7-4 overall and 1-3 in the league, will face Attleboro on Saturday afternoon.
“It’s our first time we’ve won two straight,” Carlow said. “That third period tonight, I hope it keeps us going in the right direction.”

Franklin Quad (Franklin) – Franklin went 2-1 on the day. After starting with a 41-25 setback to St. John’s Prep, Franklin picked up wins over Salem (NH) 60-14 and closed the day with a 35-26 win over Lawrence.
Barnstable Quad (Mansfield) – Mansfield fell to host Barnstable (54-30).
Milford Invitational (Milford) – Milford placed fourth.

Sandwich Tournament (Taunton) – Taunton finished fourth as a team with five wrestlers making the semifinals. Other first place finishers included Pat Johnson in the 300M (39.62), Gareth King in the 600M (1:33.75) and the 55M hurdles (8.38), Matt Reimels in the 1000M (2:44.45), freshman Liam Monahan in the 2 Mile (10:27.96) and Matt Tarantino in the high jump (5-08.00). Canton, 16 vs. Oliver Ames, 80 – Final – The Tigers had a dominate day with multiple strong performances. Doug MacDonald was first in the 55M dash at 6.89 and other first place finishes included Jonathan Long in the 600M (1:32.96), Colin Herschlag in the 1000M (2:58.26), Jarod Boone in the 1 Mile (4:46.41), Jack MacAdam in the 55M hurdles (9.00) and the long jump (18-03.75), Tyler Watson in the shot put (32-8.00) and Andre Cathcart in the high jump (5-02.00). Canton’s top performances came from Pat Hession in the 300M (39.42) and Mark Clancy in the 2 Mile (10:26.44).
Franklin, 53 vs. King Philip, 47 – Final – In a close battle, Franklin was able to pull out the win. Luke Gordon was first in the 300M (39.29), Jimmy Robbins was first in the 1000M (2:48.60) and Ryan Spelman had the best time of all teams in the 1 Mile at 4:40.49. Other first place finishes were Spelman in the 2 Mile (10:53.41) and Michael Bullen in the long jump (18-06.75). King Philip’s Sean Garrity had the best 55M dash performance off all 12 schools, taking first in 6.85. Ethan Dunne was first in the 600M (1:33.09) and the 55M hurdles (8.45), Paul Macrina in the shot put (42-05.00) and a league best high jump performance from Michael Roby (5-08.00).
Foxboro, 31 vs. Sharon, 69 – Final – The Eagles had first place performances in all solo events , starting with Carlos Grullon in the 55M dash (6.93), the high jump (5-06.00) and the long jump (league best 20-01.50), Jake Goloboy in the 300M (39.84), Tyler Kaufman in the 600M (1:32.60), Grant Fawcett in the 1000M (3:00.13), Tianrui Sun in the 1 Mile (4:42.19) and the 2 Mile (10:21.30), William McManus in the 55M hurdles (league best 8.09) and Matthew McManus in the shot put (40-04.75). Mansfield, 63 vs. Taunton, 37 – Final – The Hornets had the two top times of all 12 schools in the 600M with sophomore Kevin Crawford in first (1:30.53) and junior Kyle Amerantes in second (1:31.68). Other first place finishes included Jack Crawford in the 1000M (league best 2:38.88), Jareme DiLorenzo in the 55M hurdles (8.59), Kevin McCree in the shot put (43-09.50) and Jake Morrill in the high jump (5-06.00). Taunton had strong performances as well with first place finishes from Damion Theodule in the 55M dash (6.87), Brian Cherenfant in the 300M (league-best 38.21) and the long jump (19-09.00) and Dylan Lynch in the 1 Mile (4:41.44) and the 2 Mile (10:18.09).
Milford, 36 vs. Stoughton, 64 – Final – Stoughton picked up its first win behind a number of strong performances. Clifton Gerring finished first in the 55M dash (6.93), Jordan Taylor was first in the 300M (38.76), Cameron Bean was first in the 600M (1:34.45) and the 1 Mile (4:54.51), James Tarchara took the shot put (37-05.50) and Steven Elice, Sean Perry and Gerring tied for first in the high jump (5-04.00). Franklin, 78 vs. King Philip, 22 – Final – A sophomore finished first in three different events to pace the Panthers. First place finishes for Franklin included second year athlete Jessica Kroushl in the 55M dash (7.61), the 300M (league-best 43.14 [Franklin freshman Halle Atkinson was second in the league at 43.16]) and the long jump (15-08.50), Meghan Doherty in the 600M (1:42.75), Brittany Robinson in the 1000M (league-best 3:09.44), Ella Gutkowski in the 1 Mile (5:45.04), Carly Rondeau in the 2 Mile (13:00.91) and Beth Neal in the 55M hurdles (9.72) and the high jump (league-best 4-10.00). Foxboro, 49 vs. Sharon, 51 – Final – This matchup dominated the 2 Mile race, with Foxboro grabbing first but Sharon getting second, third and fourth. Sharon sophomore Amanda Brown was first in the 600M (1:46.73), Ariadne Tolay was first in the 1000M (3:14.32), Brigid Loftus finished first in the 55M hurdles (9.87) and Rachel Goodman won the shot put (26-08.25). FOXBORO, Mass. – Prior to the season, Taunton coach Kris Metea talked about how his team had taken its lumps over the past few years, but that the players who were overwhelmed as eighth graders had now spent a few years in the program and were physically ready to make their mark this season.
On Wednesday night, in the Tigers season opener at the Foxboro Sports Center, Taunton outmuscled and wore down Foxboro for a dominating 7-0 victory.
Taunton coach Kris Metea said, “It was nice to see the boys come out and it was a little bit of a slow start but in the second period they put it together.”
The Pietrzyk brothers combined for four goals and six points for the Tigers. Senior Tyler had two goals and two assists, while sophomore Trevor added a pair of goals, including the final goal with just 2:09 remaining.
“They work hard,” said Metea. “They embody what we believe in the program. They give everything they’ve gotand they bleed Tiger hockey. They bring a ton of energy and it shows.”
Tyler Pietrzyk scored the eventual game winner nearly five minutes into the game. On a rush up ice, Will Walsh drew a defenseman and laid a perfect pass into Pietrzyk’s path and he blasted a slap shot over the shoulder of Foxboro goalie John Cronin.
Taunton outshot the Warriors 10-4 and controlled the vast majority of the offensive zone time and puck possession, but could not extend the lead. Still it was only a one-goal lead and Foxboro nearly pulled it back with two breakaways in the final three minutes of the period but Paul Vey’s shot was stopped by Justin Chappell.
Cronin (22 saves) played his part in keeping the Tigers at bay, including a big double save stopping a Walsh breakaway and the rebound. Foxboro coach Jim Genovese said that Cronin will be crucial to keep the Warriors in games this season.
“He’s going to be our backbone this year, especially because we’ve got four freshmen defensemen,” Genovese explained. “He did all the right things in the off-season to improve.”
During the first intermission, the Tigers talked about turning the dominance into goals and that message was received loud and clear. Taunton had nine shots on goal in the opening four minutes of the second period and finally got a second when Zack Albert hit Pietrzyk on a perfect outlet pass and he beat Cronin top shelf.
“We told them as much as they were carrying the play there was another level they could still bring up,” said Metea. “We talked about our ‘D’ getting shots to the net and getting more pressure in front.”
“They amped it up to another level and did everything we asked for adjustments.”
The goal seemed to open the floodgates for the Tigers, who tacked on three more before the end of the period. Defenseman Nick Terry made it 3-0 on the power play when he collected a loose puck by the near side boards and skated across the crease before roofing his shot.
Six minutes later his blue line partner David Perry added another power play goal with a wrist shot through traffic. With 22.6 left in the second, Trevor Pietrzyk knocked in a loose puck after a scramble in front to make it 5-0.
The third period was sluggish from both teams, as the big lead and fatigue set in for both teams. Walsh got his second point of the night when he finished off a nice move with a wrist shot under the bar against Foxboro backup goalie Clay Leopold. Trevor Pietrzyk tacked on his second with a tap in off Jakob Robert’s second assist.
Foxboro had chances to get back into the game, but was 0-7 on the power play including a full 1:30 with a two-man advantage in the third period. The top attacking line of Tim Luciano, Jason Galanti and Vey with Peter Smith added on power plays struggled to put the puck on net.
“We just got to move our feet quicker on the power play and move the puck better,” said Genovese. “We’re forcing passes. We have to slow it down in that aspect, but we have to be moving.”
Metea knows that these penalties could cause problems over the course of the season. “We definitely stressed that penalties will kill us against good teams. We don’t want to give them power play opportunities.”
Taunton has higher expectations this season and this was a solid beginning for the Tigers, as they start what they hope will be a run to the playoffs.

Attleboro 2014-15 Record: 11-13-1 (2-8-0) 2014-15 Finish: Reached Div. 3 South semifinal Head Coach: Mike Cripps
The Bombardiers made an improbable run to the Div. 3 South semifinal before being eliminated by Hanover. Even with a short bench and a goaltender that had never played before, Attleboro won three tournament games for the first time in program history and this year will try to build on that experience and get back to the postseason.
With 20 players on the roster, depth may not be Attleboro’s strength but there are some players that Cripps will be counting on to produce this season led by senior forward Keagin Larkin. He will be helped out on the forward line by junior P.J. Elliott and sophomore Sam Parker. Freshman Sam Larkin will also step in right away and Cripps said that he has been “impressive” during the opening two weeks of practice.
Senior goalie Tim Gile returns between the pipes after a season that saw him put on goalie pads for the first time. He will be joined at the goalie position by junior Tyler Koppy. In front of goal, seniors Will McKenzie and Jack Flynn and sophomore Sam McKenzie will be part of Attleboro’s defensive corps.
There may only be 20 players on the roster, but the Bombardiers are a tight-knit group and Cripps is hopeful that they can get back to .500 and another trip to the playoffs. He said, “Our team is a group of hard-working players with good chemistry. With our lack of depth, we have to avoid injuries and illness. I am very happy with the progress I have seen after the first week.”
Franklin 2014-15 Record: 17-4-3 (10-0-0) 2014-15 Finish: Lost in first round of the Super 8 Head Coach: Chris Spillane
How does Franklin follow up its first ever appearance in the prestigious Super 8 tournament? How does the program recover from losing 21 seniors off a roster that finished unbeaten in the Hockomock League and had one of the league’s most exciting hockey moments when it beat Xaverian in overtime in the Super 8 play-in game?
Those are tough questions that head coach Chris Spillane will be trying to answer in the coming weeks as he incorporates almost an entirely new roster. The top returning scorer from last season is senior Alex Bissanti, who chipped in with five goals as a junior. He will be joined up front by junior Adam Assad, who Spillane said has “lots of offensive potential.” In addition, the coach noted that he is looking towards a “strong” sophomore class to provide a spark offensively.
Ryan Shea was a rock in goal last season after getting his first playing time as a senior and the Panthers will be counting on seniors Nick Jasinki (five games in 2014-15) and Cam Benham to step in this year and have a similar impact. In front of the goalies, Franklin has a strong defensive corps led by senior captains Matt Pleshaw and Jack Chaffee. The defense has been bolstered by the return of senior Tyler Oaks, who had been playing for the South Shore Kings. Spillane called him a “strong offensive defenseman.”
It is only the third season for Franklin in Div. 1 and already the Panthers have accomplished more than most public school programs. This could be a transition year for Franklin but expectations remain high for a perennial power. Spillane said, “With the departure of 21 seniors, the success of this team will rely on finding a identity early in the season.”
King Philip 2014-15 Record: 7-10-3 (4-5-1) 2014-15 Finish: Missed playoffs Head Coach: Paul Carlow
For the second time in three season, King Philip has changed coaches with Paul Carlow taking charge of the Warriors this winter after two seasons as the JV and assistant coach. Thanks to his experience with the program and with the players, Carlow, who was once a standout player for KP, called the transition “smooth.” He added, “I know the players and they know me, which has made it pretty easy. Everyone know what is expected.”
The Warriors numbers were not huge this winter and depth may not be a strength, but Carlow is excited about the talent that KP will send out on the ice with six forwards and six defensemen returning from last year’s squad. The Warriors will be led on the forward line by senior captain Matt Smith, while fellow captain Clay Guess will lead an experienced blue line group that also includes football star Corey Lombardo.
Sophomore Collin Cooke is a player to watch this season and is poised for a breakout winter after scoring 11 goals and 10 assists as a freshman. Fellow sophomore Dan McLoughlin could be a player that steps in and provides a spark along with junior Richie Lucente, who saw plenty of ice time last season. Carlow also said that junior Jeremy Smith should step right in at defense. He noted that Smith had the talent to get on the ice as a sophomore but was only limited by the experienced players ahead of him.
Carlow has added preseason scrimmages and has changed the schedule around to add teams like Nauset, Walpole, and Coyle to prepare the team for the rigors of the Div. 1 tournament. After narrowly missing out the past two seasons, Carlow is confident the Warriors can make a run to the postseason. “We need to be ready for the type of teams we’re going to face,” said Carlow. “We may not be the deepest team, we didn’t have 90 kids tryout like Franklin, but we’ve got speed and we can play.”

Mansfield enters another season as one of the main threats to Franklin in the Kelley-Rex division. The Hornets, who are the only other team to have won the division (in 2011), are one of the few programs to consistently have the talent base to challenge the Panthers and this season is no different.
Junior forward Matt Farragher is primed for a breakout season after scoring 13 points as a sophomore and he will be paired up front with several classmates, including Pat Sunderland and Chad Piotti. Seniors Pat Graham, Shane Doherty, and Max Hoffman will return to give Mansfield strength in depth along its first two lines and the firepower to make the Hornets a dangerous team in the Hock.
Mansfield also has the potential to be strong defensively, as demonstrated by a scoreless tie with Winthrop on Saturday. Anthony Visconti, who gave up just more three goals per game last season, returns in goal and he will be helped out by senior defenseman Mike Arnold, who leads the blue liners, along with classmate Tim O’Brien.
The Hornets have experienced returning players, but there is plenty of youth coming through program as well with two freshman and five sophomores on the varsity roster. Franklin may remain the team to beat, but Mansfield is confident that it will be right there pushing the Panthers to the end.
North Attleboro 2014-15 Record: 12-8-1 (6-4-0) 2014-15 Finish: Reached Div. 2 South first round Head Coach: Stephen Snizek
The Rocketeers made it back to the tournament last season but were knocked out in overtime by Milford in the first round. With Sean Young graduated, North Attleboro will be looking for someone that can step into his role as the primary scorer and make a run at a first league title in its final season in the Kelley-Rex.
There is a lot of depth returning for North this season led on the forward line by senior captains Andrew Casson and Brian Poillucci and juniors Zach McGowan and Erik Clements, each of whom have years of experience for the Rocketeers. Sophomores Jason McNeany and Andrew Wissler and a strong freshman class will add to the forwards over the course of the season.
Defensively, North Attleboro will count on juniors Paul Baker and Vincent Zammiello and senior Matthew Marceau on the back line. The defense will be key and Snizek is expecting his forwards to help back as well as the Rocketeers will be using freshmen Chris Ulrich and Ryan Warren in goal this year.
The Rocketeers have a lot of weapons and Snizek is excited for the talent coming through the program. He said, “We have a lot of weapons on offense and we need to get pucks to the net and drive in the dirty goals. Our forwards will need to play in all zones on the ice.Not just the offensive zone.”
The Tigers have been building the program for the past few years, developing young skaters, and waiting for a time that it can come together for a potential run at the state tournament. Head coach Kris Metea is hopeful that this could be the year, as Taunton boasts a talented forward line that could provide the goals needed to get to the playoffs. Metea said, “The eighth graders and freshmen that took beatings three years ago have all grown up and can physically compete with players in the Hockomock now.”
Among the players that Metea highlighted this season are junior Nick Terry, who is coming off an all-star season, and senior Tyler Pietrzyk, who will both be starters. Junior Zack Albert and sophomore Will Walsh will add depth to the forwards as well. Defensively, senior David Perry and junior Mike Volkmann will be two of the key players and add a physical component to the Tigers.
Taunton has three goalies on the varsity roster and Metea has confidence in all of them to win games. Senior Cam Pitts is the most experienced of the trio but junior Justin Chappell and freshman Griffin Speicher both will see time as well.
If Taunton can improve the power play and utilize its overall team speed, this could be an interesting year for the Tigers. “It has been a pleasure working with these players and see them grow up as hockey players and young men,” said Metea. “They have matured physically and mentally and are ready to take the next step to compete with the top end of the ever-competitive Hockomock.”
