The pieces fit together perfectly during the 2015 season for the Oliver Ames boys soccer team. The Tigers received key contributions from three classes all season long en route to an undefeated season and a Division 2 State Championship.
The Tigers were made up of a talented senior class full of leaders, a group of juniors ready to make the most of their opportunities, and a skillful sophomore class that wasn’t afraid of the big moment. After coming up just short in the state final the year before, the Oliver Ames boys soccer team was determined to go all the way in 2015.
“I would say preseason we knew we were all locked in to push ourselves to have another great year,” said senior captain Keegan Nutt, who went on to have a successful four-year career at Stonehill. “We ended 2014 with a loss in the state championship and told ourselves we’re not letting this happen again. We made goals before our first Hockomock game and said first we want to win the league, then we want to win the south, and best of all we want to win our first state championship.”
Up top, junior Thomas McCormick was a menace inside the area, always quick to a loose ball to punish opposing teams. Nutt and sophomore Nathaniel Cardoza directed play from the center of the pitch while sophomores Matt Alvarado, Jack Sheldon, Mason Galbato, Cam Vella, and Matt Campbell applied pressure on opponents either up top or on the wings.
Defensively, the Tigers had 14 shutouts on the season with just eight goals against during the regular season. Sophomore Jack Carroll took over in net that season and was helped along by defenders Max Bamford, Max Ahearn, and Jared Mallers.
Senior captain Chris Romero did it all for the Tigers, anchoring the defensive unit at times while also getting minutes in the attack.
“This team was special from minute one,” said Oliver Ames head coach John Barata. “They trained at a high level all the time and never gave up. These players put in the extra time and never deviated from the plan we set during our preseason goals. We wanted to be dominant in every facet of the game and made a commitment to give everything we had to this team and the season.”
Oliver Ames went undefeated in the regular season to win its fourth Davenport division crown in a five-year span. The Tigers notched 13 wins, including an impressive 1-0 result against Kelley-Rex division champion Mansfield. Besides a draw with Sharon, OA tied a talented Foxboro side twice during the year. That Foxboro squad, featuring the likes of Anthony Barreira, Devante Teixeira, and Joe Morrison, was one of the most dangerous offensive groups from the Hock this decade.
The second meeting between the two featured a late equalizer from Cardoza that gave the Tigers a point and the division title. It was only a sign of things to come as this Oliver Ames team had a flair for the dramatic, especially in the state tournament.
“Players sacrificed social lives, free time and family time to put in extra effort for the Oliver Ames program,” Barata said. “This team had the X factor – the EXTRA something that is hard to quantify. I knew after our first game this group was going to be special. However, it was the Foxboro games that convinced me that we had the potential to go far in the tournament.”
OA grinded out a gutsy win in the opening round of the tournament, knocking off a tough Milton squad 1-0. Romero provided the heroics in the next round, depositing the game-winner in double-overtime with just seconds left to play. After a rout of the #2-seed Greater New Bedford (5-0), Vella and Cardoza scored in the South Sectional Final, the latter in overtime to give the Tigers a win over Medfield.
“We were playing with three in the back with the most relentless defense I had ever seen,” Nutt added. “And our offense was clicking too and teams couldn’t figure out how to stop us or score on us. We had great team chemistry but it’s all in coach Barata. He perfected a system and way of playing that was literally unbeatable, and it paid off.”
In the state final, OA fell behind 1-0 to Masconomet but responded with three straight goals to claim the title. After going down 1-0 in the 12th minute, Romero equalized just seven minutes later. Five minutes later, Cardoza buried a loose ball in the box off a corner kick, and the Tigers added an insurance goal in the 57th minute off of the head of McCormick on a cross from Alvarado. It marked the first state championship in program history.

Football
Milford’s Jarrod Casey currently leads Assumption in tackles through six games this season. Casey has a team-best 50 tackles (8.3 per game), including two tackles for loss and two interceptions as the team’s starting strong safety. Stoughton grad Brandon Swain-Price is third in receptions for the Greyhounds with 11 for a total of 250 yards and two touchdowns. The former Black Knight is averaging 19.1 yards per catch for Assumption (5-1). Another Milford alum – Patrick Corcoran – has played in five of six of Assumption’s games.
King Philip graduate Sam McDonald has started in all six of Bentley’s games this season and is second in tackles with 32 – best among defensive backs. McDonald has two interceptions, four pass breakups and three tackles for loss on the season for the Falcons. Taunton’s Shane Wellman has played in six games this year with five tackles, Mansfield’s Kyle Wisnieski (four tackles, one interception), Attleboro’s Luke Morrison (two tackles) and Franklin’s Quintin McDermott (one tackle) have all appeared in four games for the Falcons.
Former Franklin Panther Colton Cardinal has made four appearances on the gridiron for Boston College this season. Cardinal, who made two tackles for the Eagles last season, switched to the offensive side of the ball for 2016. From his fullback position, the sophomore has three receptions for 52 yards on the year.
Oliver Ames alum Cameron Williamson has been a steady contributed for the Bridgewater State Bears so far this season. A junior, Williamson has played in all six games so far this season with 19 solo tackles and 21 total. He came away with his lone interception of the season so far in a close win over Western Connecticut and has three pass breakups.
Although Brown is off to a 1-3 start, North Attleboro’s Alex Jette continues to be a bright spot. He leads the team with 25 receptions and has a team-best 271 yards through the air through four games, including one touchdown. He is fourth on the team in rushing as well with 48 yards on six carries (12 yards per carry), giving him a team-high 319 all-purpose yards. Jette is also the team’s punter, averaging 37 yards per punt with a long of 61 and six of his 24 punts landing inside the 20-yard-line.
Franklin’s Craig Anderson has been a key piece as Endicott has bounced back from a slow start to the season. After an 0-3 start, the Gulls have picked up two straight conference wins heading into a trip to Maine Maritime this weekend. Anderson is fifth on the team with 17 tackles and has appeared in all five games so far. Anderson has one sack and six tackles for loss, and blocked a field goal against Nichols. Oliver Ames grad Joe Tepper has two tackles this season and returned a kick for 13 yards.
Canton alum Sterlin Garvin is making an impact during his sophomore season at Fitchburg State. The former Bulldog is second in rushing for the Falcons with 133 yards on 43 carries (3.1 yards per carry). He found the end zone in Fitchburg’s win over Castleton in early September, scoring on a five-yard pass.
A handful of former Hockomock players continue to contribute to Framingham State’s success. On the defensive side of the ball, Attleboro alum Tom Burns is fourth on the team in tackles with 28 with just four of the team’s six games played. Burns has also recorded three pass breakups for the Rams. King Philip graduate Brian Donahue has appeared in all six games as a linebacker for Framingham with 18 tackles, including one sack and a pass breakup. Foxboro’s Derek Gilreath has a pair of tackles in five games played. Offensively, Stoughton’s Joe Wilder, a captain, has started all six games on the left side of the offensive line for the Rams.
A pair of former Kelley-Rex division rivals are now teammates at Nichols College, helping the Bison to two wins so far this season. Attleboro’s Brenden Massey has hauled in a team-high 20 catches this season for 323 yards (16.2 yards per catch). Masssey has also scored two touchdowns this season. King Philip’s Brett McEvoy is second on the team with 44 total tackles, including three tackles for a loss. McEvoy has also forced a fumble for the Bison through five games.
Attleboro’s Brendan Nunes and Franklin’s Danny McDermott are both making plays all over the field for the undefeated Salve Regina Seahawks. McDermott, a junior, has completed a pass, run the ball three times and even hauled in a 20-yard reception for Salve (4-0). Nunes, a freshman, is third on the team in all-purpose yards with 210 after emerging as the team’s primary return man. Nunes (one catch) has returned five kickoffs for a total of 171 yards, including a 76-yard touchdown against Worcester State. Nunes has also made a tackle on defense for the Seahawks.
UMass Dartmouth has three wins so far this reason with four former Hockomock athletes making plays on the defensive side of the ball. Mansfield’s David Collins in second on the team in tackles with 44, including 5.5 that went for a loss. Taunton’s Marcel Flynn has recorded 22 tackles, six of which have been for loss and has two blocked kicks on the season. Mansfield’s Louis Petrella had 18 tackles on the season, including a fumble recovery while Canton’s Anthony LaRose has 17 tackles and a team-high 2.5 sacks for the Corsairs.
Worcester State picked up its first win of the season this past week with a close 17-14 decision over Fitchburg. On the season, Milford’s Eric Nunez is fifth on the team with 28 tackles, including one sack. Mansfield’s Aurian Dawkins has recorded 22 tackles so far in four games played with three tackles for a loss and one interception. Offensively, Milford’s Jay Rodriguez has 37 yards on nine rushing attempts this season.
Men’s Soccer
Attleboro graduate Spenser Powell is having an impressive senior year at Adelphi. Powell has been honored as the NE-10 Conference Goalkeeper of the Week three times already this season while the Panthers are now ranked #14 by the NSCAA. Powell has started in all 10 games with a 0.41 goals against average and 34 saves. He has an 8-1-1 record with six shutouts.
Franklin’s Zach Scafati has started on defense in all 11 of Assumption’s games so far this season. The Greyhounds are allowing fewer than two goals per game. Scafati, a captain for the squad, also has four shots this year. Oliver Ames’ Chris Romero has appeared in seven games so far, including the last six straight. Romero recorded his first career point, scoring his first collegiate goal off a rebound.
Over at Brandeis, two former Hockomock players are making an impact for the Judges’ offense. North Attleboro’s Josh Ocel leads Brandeis in points with 11, tying for a team-high in goals (4) and assists (3). King Philip’s Andrew Allen is third in points (7), having netted a pair of goals this season while tying Ocel for the team-high with three assists.
The defending MASCAC champion Bridgewater State Bears have five former Hockomock athletes on the roster this season. The Bears (5-5-1) have Foxboro’s Sawyer Fleck, Riley Fleck and Brian Bortolotti along with Milford’s Justin Borges and Mike Da Silva. Sawyer Fleck is currently tied for third on the time with three points on three assists this season while Bortolotti has scored one goal. Riley Fleck has started in eight games this year while Borges had made three appearances off the bench.
Oliver Ames alum Adam Borbely has been a key player in Colby Sawyer’s 6-4-1 start this season. Borbely has notched one assist by has started in all 11 of the Chargers’ games so far this year. His 722 minutes played ranks sixth most on the team and he has registered two shots on goal.
Wentworth has recorded an 8-2-4 record so far this season with a pair of Hockomock grads contributing. Franklin’s Joe Kalil has started 13 of the team’s 14 games and registered five points – two goals and one assist. Kalil scored in a win at MIT and then again at home against Western New England. OA graduate Gaston Cetrangolo has made six appearances for Wentworth this season.
Keegan Nutt continues to make an impact in Easton, this time for the Stonehill Skyhawks. The former Oliver Ames standout and 2015 HockomockSports.com Best XI selection has played in and started all 12 games for Stonehill (5-7), just one of four players to do so. Nutt netted his first collegiate goal against Franklin Pierce back in September and has two assists this season.
King Philip graduate Joe Kellett has played nearly every minute of his rookie season so far for the 8-0-2 River Hawks of UMass Lowell. Kellett has started in all 10 of the team’s games (10) – just one of seven players to do so. His 930 minutes played rank fourth on the team and he’s registered four shots on goal.
Women’s Soccer
A trio of Hockomock alum have played in all 13 of Assumption’s games so far this year, helping the Greyhounds to a 6-6-1 record. Taunton’s Tayla Morais, a senior forward, has scored once and started a pair of games. Franklin’s Alexis Stowell has made five starts with a goal and assist while 2015 HockomockSports.com Player of the Year Victoria Stowell has come off the bench in each game so far.
A pair of former teammates and MIAA State Champions found themselves on the same pitch again, this time as opponents when Kristi Kirshe and Williams College hosted Nicole Ellin and Bard College. Kirshe and Ellin were both part of Franklin’s title winning team in 2012. Kirshe notched two assists in the game and the Ephs emerged with a 5-0 win. Earlier this month, Kirshe became Williams’ (defending 2015 NCAA DIII National Champions) all-time leader in points with 102 and was named NESCAC Player of the Week two days later. For Bard, Ellin has started on defense in all 12 of the Raptors’ games this season. Bard is 7-5 overall this season.
North Attleboro’s Jamie Grinavic has been a key piece for Bentley this year as the Falcons are off to a 6-3-2 start this season. Grinavic, a senior midfielder, is fourth on the team in points after registering three assists and scoring one goal for five points. She’s just one of seven players to start in all 11 games so far this season.
Goals have been hard to come by in Bridgewater State’s games this year – both for and against – but a trio of Hockomock alums have helped the Bears in getting points in eight of their 11 matches. Taunton’s Alana Vincent leads BSU in scoring, netting four goals so far this year. The Bears have only allowed seven goals this season with Mansfield’s Katie Bongarzone (11 starts) and Molly Shield (10 starts) being big reasons why.
The Boston College Eagles are off to a 10-4-1 start this year with former Hockomock League MVP Lauren Berman playing a big role. Berman has started all 15 games and played 1,205 minutes, good for fourth on the team. She has netted four goals so far and six assists, good for 14 points, third most for BC this year.
Milford’s Kaley Pratt has been a spark off the bench for Eastern Connecticut State this season and netted the game-winner in overtime against Keene State this past weekend. Pratt has three goals and one assist on the year, which puts her second on the team in points. Stoughton’s Rachel Berkowsky has started eight games so far for the Warriors (8-2-2) with one assist.
Oliver Ames’ Nicole Taylor has helped Endicott to a strong 9-2-2 start this season. Taylor, a senior captain, has started in seven games so far with the Gulls recording a 7-1-1 record in that stretch. The Gulls have limited opponents to just nine goals in those nine games with Taylor being a key piece on defense.
Stoughton’s Shelby Sprague continues to be an offensive juggernaut for Massasoit. After scoring 25 goals last season, Sprague has already scored 22 goals this year for the Warriors.
Providence College women’s soccer is off to a 9-4-2 start and is allowing less than a goal per game so far with two Hockomock alums playing big roles in the Friars’ defense. OA’s Kendall Andrew has appeared in 14 of the 15 games so far for the Friars while Canton’s Hailee Duserick has appeared in 10 games with seven starts.
Canton’s Kim McNally has played a big part in Sacred Heart’s 5-4-3 start this year, playing her usual strong defense but also contributing on the offensive side of the ball. McNally scored her first goal of the season in a 1-0 win on the road at Saint Peter’s in early September and then netted her second goal of the year in a 3-0 win over Robert Morris in early October.
Brianna Duserick has helped Stonehill to an incredible start, one that included the Skyhawks being ranked as high as #4 in the NSCAA Poll. Duserick, a Canton alum, is third in points for Stonehill (10-2-1) with one goal, which came at Franklin Pierce, and five assists, the last two coming in consecutive games against Assumption and Saint Michael’s.
Sharon graduate Meg James is just one of seven players to start in all 13 of the University of Vermont’s games this season. A defender, James has been a vital piece for the Catamounts over the years. Check out our feature on James from earlier this year.
Volleyball
Canton graduate Avery Devoe is seeing a lot of action for Ball State University this fall, the Cardinals registering eight wins through 20 matches so far. Devoe has 14 starts and played in 60 sets so far, notching 61 kills and serving over 90% so far. She leads Ball State with a total of 48 blocks so far.
At Bridgewater State, Mansfield’s Alyssa Kelley continues to contribute on defense for the Bears. Kelley has 115 digs and 193 serve receives thus far. Oliver Ames grad Megan Tamasanis has registered 23 kills in 33 sets played this season for the Bears.
Junior outside hitter Lauren Beecher is fourth in kills for the 9-9 Dickinson Red Devils. Beecher, a former Mansfield Hornet, has played in eight of Dickinson’s nine game, twice hitting double digits in kills. Beecher had 10 kills in a 3-1 win over Haverford and then 10 more kills on the road in a 3-2 win at Keystone.
Attleboro’s Michelle Sheehan is making an impact already for Mass Maritime as a freshman. Sheehan is second on the team with 170 assists and has 41 kills (fifth on the team) and has registered 150 digs so far for the Buccaneers.
Two former Hockomock rivals are now teaming up for the Suffolk Rams, who have played 18 matches this season. Canton’s Chidera Nwankwo is third in kills for the Rams with 82, hitting at a team-best .212 clip. Nwankwo also has a total of 28 blocks, which is second on the team. Taunton’s Alyssa Gibson, a freshman, has played in 14 matches so far and registered 18 kills and seven blocks.
Julia Murphy has hit a couple of milestones in her final year with the UMass Boston volleyball team. The Canton alum recorded her 1,000th career kill in a 3-0 win over Western Connecticut back on September 17th and was named Little East Offensive Player of the Week just two days later. In Murphy’s next game, she recorded her 121st career solo block, which set a new program record for the Beacons.
Westfield volleyball has 10 wins already this season with King Philip graduates Brigid Murray and Micaela Murray both factoring in. Bridget Murray leads the Owls with 499 assists this season, ranking fourth in the MASCAC with 6.61 assists per set. Bridget also has 21 aces on the season, tied for fourth on the Owls. Micaela Murray, in her first year, has three kills, four assists and a team high 53 aces, 0.76 per set – good for first in the MASCAC.
WPI volleyball has three Hockomock players to thank in part for its 17-4 start to the season. King Philip’s Melissa Daigle is third on the team in with 114 kills and also has 55 digs and 13 blocks. Franklin’s Shay Feeley is second on the team in assists with 319 and also has 101 digs and 24 aces, first on the team. Oliver Ames’ Caroline Meyer is third in assists with 35.
Field Hockey
Mansfield’s Janet Maher is just one of five players on Bridgewater State to start all 11 games so far, with the Bears posting a 7-4 record. Maher, a defender, has helped limit opponents to 26 goals against while also registering an assist herself. King Philip’s Kathryn Jacobson has appeared in nine games for the Bears and Foxboro’s Jill Delaney has played two games in goal with just one goal allowed.
Attleboro’s Kelsey Wagner has made two appearances for Duke Blue Devils, the #2 ranked team in the country with an 11-2 record. Wagner has played just under 40 minutes so far this season with three saves.
LIU Post is off to an 8-3 start this season and has been ranked as high as #1 in the NFHCA poll. Oliver Ames graduate Molly Cunha has appeared in nine games so far for the Pioneers.
Four former Hockomock players are making an impression for Merrimack (4-6) field hockey this season. Canton grad Mary McNeil is second on the team in points with four goals and four assists while Franklin’s Hannah Magerman is fourth, having scored three goals with two assists. Milford’s Jessica Palmer has appeared in nine games so far with four starts while Canton’s Lindsey Nolte made her first collegiate appearance earlier this year.
Katie Notarangelo is just one of five players to have started all 11 games of the season for MIT. The Engineers are off to a 9-2 start with Notarangelo playing a big role in midfield. The Foxboro alum has scored twice this season, once in a win over UMass Dartmouth and again in a win over WPI.
Regis College is off to a 6-5 start this season with a pair of former Hockomock players playing a big part. Oliver Ames’ Yvone Abate has started in every single game for the Pride so far. Stoughton’s Ashley Chipman has played in all 11 games with four starts and has netted a pair of goals. For her efforts, Chipman was named NECC Rookie of the Week earlier this month.
Former HockomockSports.com Player of the Year Hannah Friend picked up her second NE-10 Rookie of the Week honor earlier this week, helping Saint Anselm’s to a 10-2 start. Friend leads the Hawks with seven goals and two assists for a team-high 16 points. Franklin’s Maddie Bressler and North Attleboro’s Rose Mooney each have a pair of goals and assists for six points. Franklin’s Elizabeth Alie, a senior defender, has started in all 12 games for the Hawks this season while Canton’s Mary Nee, a freshman, has appeared in 11 games and registered one assist.
Former Franklin Panther Sammy Rondeau is second in points for the 7-5 Simmons field hockey squad. Rondeau has potted six goals and notched four assists for the Sharks. Rondeau has scored twice in two games this season, in home wins over Nichlos and Wheelock in September.
Springfield College’s field hockey team has picked up five wins in its first 12 games this season with a pair of Hock alums factoring in. North Attleboro’s Emily Knobel is tied for fifth on the team with five points, scoring once with three assists. Knobel scored against Husson and had assists against Keene St., Husson and Saint Joseph’s. Mansfield’s Allie Skinner has started in all 12 of the Pride’s games so far with one assist.
Taunton’s Katelin Morrissey is tied for second in points for the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth (4-10). Morrissey has scored six goals and added one assist for a total of 13 points. Franklin’s Allison Burke has started five games in net and played more than 400 minutes so far. She has a team-high 48 saves with a 2.33 goals against average.
Oliver Ames graduate Carly Cidado is making an impact in her first year at WPI. The freshman has started all 12 games this season for the Engineers, registering two goals and three assists for seven points – tied for fourth best on the team. Cidado scored in her first ever game and then netted another in a win over Clark last week. She had assists against Bridgewater State, Elms and Smith.
Cross-Country
Former Milford standout Jenise Madden has had an incredible start to her collegiate career, being named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Cross-Country Rookie of the Week an astounding four times already. Madden was the Bears’ top runner at the James Earley Invitational at Westfield State, finishing in 23:14.83 (22nd out of 459).
Also at Bridgewater State, another first year runner is turning heads. Taunton’s Trevor Wysong was named the MASCAC Men’s Cross-Country Rookie of the Week for the third time this season. Wysong was 50th out of 432, finishing in 27:00.24 at the James Earley Invitational.
Golf
Oliver Ames’ Nick Carter has played in three matches for Saint Anselm’s this season. In the season opening Bowdoin Invitational, Carter shot a 153 to finish ninth overall. At the NE-10 Championships, Carter was 56th with a 169 and then finished 36th at the St. Rose Shootout with a 161.
North Attleboro’s Eric Marchetti has played in three tournaments so far this season for the University of Rhode Island, finishing in the top 65 in each of them. At the Doc Gimmler at Bethpage State Park, Marchetti tied for 35th with a 216, just six strokes over par. At the Hartford Hawks Invitational and the Quechee Club Collegiate Challenge, Marchetti finished 61st overall both times.

Franklin, 7 vs. Hopkinton, 3 – Final– Seven different Panthers recorded an RBI as the Panthers advanced to the finals of the Pedroli Tournament to play Lincoln-Sudbury. Nick Santucci went 2-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI, Josh Macchi went 1-3 with a run scored and an RBI, Mike Skaza was 3-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, Jason Ulrickson was 3-4 with an RBI, Joe Corsi had a hit, two runs and an RBI, Brad Jarosz went 1-1 with an RBI and Alex Bissanti had an RBI and a run scored. Ryan Hodgkins added three hits for Franklin, including a double, and scored a run. Sophomore Jake Noviello got the win on the mound, allowing a pair of runs in five innings of work, striking out seven. Ryan Morse had a scoreless inning in relief for the Panthers.

Oliver Ames, 2 vs. New Bedford, 1 – Final– With the game knotted at 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Oliver Ames senior Ryan Adams cracked an RBI triple to drive in Matt Muir as the Tigers edged the Whalers. Muir led off the inning with a walk and was sacrificed over by Chris Romero, setting the stage for Adams’ hit. Sam Burr pitched four shutout winnings for the Tigers to get the win.
Sharon, 0 @ North Quincy, 4 – Final
Taunton, 0 @ Durfee, 1 – Final– Taunton freshman Jack Moynihan was terrific on the mound for the Tigers but was the tough luck loser as the Taunton offense was unable to get anything going. Moynihan pitched six innings, allowing just the one run while striking out five. Moynihan only allowed four base runners, three hits and one walk.

King Philip, 6 @ Dighton-Rehoboth, 4 – Final – King Philip’s Brooke Taute had a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the seventh, breaking a tie game and giving the Warriors the win on the road. KP originally captured a 4-3 lead on a two-out, two-run single from Caeli Bench in the top of the fifth inning. Chris Wagner, Hailey McCasland, and Ashley Hession each had two hits for KP. Freshman Elise Pereira had an RBI bunt single in the game and battled for a hard fought walk in the seventh inning. Kali Magane for the win for KP, scattering six hits while fanning 12 batters.
North Attleboro, 5 @ Durfee, 2 – Final– Liz Morehouse knocked in a pair of runs with two hits and Amelia Murphy fanned seven batters as the Rocketeers picked up the win on the road. Mycala Moody and Meg Barlow each had three hits in the win and Gina Miceli added a pair of hits for Big Red.

Rahul Herur fought back at first singles after dropping to first set to get a 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 win at first singles, Eli Brooks won 6-2, 6-2 at second singles and Dan Barrow won 6-2, 6-4 at third singles. Tom Mancini and James Johnston won 6-0, 6-1 at first doubles and Tyler DiPalma and Derek Wu won 6-0, 6-1 at second singles.
North Attleboro, 5 vs. Durfee, 0 – Final– North Attleboro won all five matches in straight sets with two wins coming without a game lost. Sarah Leger won 7-5, 6-0 at third singles, Lark Warner and Valeria Tueme won 6-3, 6-0 at first singles and Claudia Ferrara and Rachel Stryke notched a 7-5, 6-1 at second doubles. Franklin’s Hannah Sweeney won 6-1, 6-0 at first singles and Anna Humphreys won 6-3, 6-1 at second singles.
North Attleboro, 5 @ Durfee, 0 – Final– The Rocketeers and Hilltoppers played 10 game prosets, with North Attleboro emerging victorious. Jordan Willis won 10-0 at first singles, Emily Chiasson won 10-0 at second singles and Azka Siddiq won 10-1 at third singles. Gabby Duva and Katie Demontigny won 10-6 at first doubles and Hana Hershey and Shurobhi Nandi won 10-3 at second doubles.

NORTH EASTON, Mass. – Any time that Taunton made a move on Saturday, Oliver Ames had an answer.
OA had an answer for both times that Taunton scored and added two late insurance runs to pick up a 7-4 win at Frothingham Park.
Taunton had an idea start with junior Matt Machado battling through a 10 pitch at-bat to earn a leadoff walk and senior Kevin Griffin followed suit with a walk. Sophomore Christian Simoes hammered a one-out double to score both Machado and Luke Figueira, who had reached on a fielder’s choice. It looked like the Tigers would add some more but a nice catch in right field by Matt Mancini turned into a double play to end the inning.
It didn’t take long for Oliver Ames to answer, rallying to tie the game and then take the lead in the bottom of the first. Chris Romero and Matt Muir started off with back to back doubles. Josh Minuskin flew out to right but an errant throw to third trying to catch Romero on the tag sailed out of play allowing a run to come home. Ryan Adams walked and with runners on the corners, Kyle Gagliardi connected for an RBI double. Mitch Goulet followed up at the next at-bat with an RBI single to plate Adams and senior Kevin Geary hit a two-out RBI single up the middle to make it 4-2.
“Offensively, we executed pretty well today,” Oliver Ames head coach Leo Duggan said. “That first inning was big for us to come back. Then we went into a little funk for a bit. We told them it wasn’t going to end a 4-2 game. It took us three innings until we got it going again. We had a chance in the fourth but we couldn’t anything. These remaining three games are going to be like tournament games and we have to act like they are.”
Both starters settled down after the opening inning. OA’s Matt Muir needed just 10 pitches to retire the side in order in the top half of the second and punctuated a 1-2-3 inning in the third with a strikeout for the third out. Taunton’s Charles Hearrold III induced three straight pop ups to get through the bottom of the second and got a strikeout in 1-2-3 bottom half of the third.
“That first at bat, that was a great at bat, and I think [Muir] was a little rattled after that because he walked the next guy,” Duggan said. “But after that, he was dominating. We tried to stay away from Figueira, we didn’t want him to get going. And then Mancini made a nice catch in the first inning, a really good catch and we might have been down more if he didn’t.”
Oliver Ames threatened in the bottom of the fourth inning when Chris Pearsons singled and Geary walked. Taunton’s Danny Keogh came in to pitch in relief and induced two straight pop ups to get out of the inning.
After Muir got the bottom of Taunton’s lineup in order on three straight groundouts, OA was able to tack on another run in the bottom of the fifth. Adams launched a one-out shot into deep center field for a triple and scored on a wild pitch with Gagliardi up at bat to make it 5-2.
Taunton’s offense was able to roar back to life in the top of the sixth. Machado was the catalyst, leading off by getting hit by a pitch and Griffin followed with a walk. Simoes picked up his third RBI of the game, a ground out to short to bring Machado in from third. Max Bowden followed with an RBI single to score Griffin from second and the Tigers cut into the deficit, making it 5-4.
But once again, Oliver Ames had an answer. Travis Campbell drew a lead off walk against new Taunton pitcher Tyler Medeiros. A single from Matt Muir put runners on first and second but Medeiros got the second out with a strikeout. Adams came through with two outs though with an RBI single to score Campbell and then on a hit and run, Gagliardi’s grounder got through on the left side and brought Muir home to make it 7-4. Taunton’s Owen O’Gara came in with the bases loaded to get the final out.
“Ryan came up with that big, big triple and then the RBI single the next inning,” Duggan said. “Gagliardi continues to get better. He was in a slump but he’s doing much better now. Give Taunton credit, they came back. After our start of 1-6, I think we’re playing pretty good baseball. It’s been much better, the kids are much more together.”
Taunton tried to rally again in the top of the seventh inning against OA reliever Zach Sato with sophomore Jacob Crawford reaching on a one out single and Machado walking again. But Sato was able to induce a ground ball to third and Pearsons tagged the bag and fired to first for the game ending double play.
“Credit goes to OA, every time we scored they seemed to respond very well,” Taunton head coach Jeff Sylvia said. “We came out flat, I don’t think we were prepared well for today.”
Oliver Ames (9-9, 9-5), which is postseason bound regardless of the results of the last two games due to a second place finish in the Davenport, will close out league play at home against Foxboro on Monday and Attleboro on Tuesday. Taunton (13-4, 11-4) will wrap up league play on Monday against Mansfield. A win against the Hornets will clinch at least a share of the Kelley-Rex title.

Stoughton, 8 @ Canton, 5 – Final– Stoughton’s Nico Parmeggiani improved to 5-0 on the season, tossing 5.1 innings with just three earned runs allowed. Pat Hagerty paced Stoughton’s offense from the lead off spot, going 3-4 with an RBI and a stolen base and Ryan Sullivan also added three hits, a stolen base and a run scored for the Black Knights. Joe Piana broke up a 2-2 game in the fifth inning with a two run single, Justin Hutchinson had a pair of hits and Doug Seaman (2-4, two RBI) helped cement the win with a home run in the top of the seventh.
Foxboro, 1 @ Sharon, 0 – Final – Aaron Wentling dazzled on the mound, striking out seven in a complete game two-hit shutout effort for the Warriors. Foxboro’s lone run came via junior Cam Feldman with an RBI fielder’s choice.
North Attleboro, 5 @ Franklin, 6 – Final– North Attleboro plated four runs in the first inning but Franklin’s bullpen limited the Rocketeers to just three hits over the final 6.2 innings and the Panthers offense chipped away to get the win and qualify for the state tournament. Bryan Woelfel came in with one out and the bases loaded in the first and was able to limit the damage for Franklin. Woelfel went five innings, allowing two hits and one earned run while striking out three. Ryan Morse got the win, allowing just a hit in 1.2 innings. Franklin scored a run in the first, two more in the third and two more in the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. North tied the game in the top of the sixth but sophomore Steven Luttazi scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth for the Panthers. Sophomore Jason Ulrickson went 2-3 and knocked in a pair of runs, Mike Skaza was 1-1 with a pair of walks, an RBI and a run scored and Tyler Gomes went 1-3 with an RBI and a double. Ryan Hodgkins (2-4) scored twice for Franklin and Cam Benham scored once. Andy Katch went 2-3 for North while Zach DeMattio had two RBI for Big Red.
Oliver Ames, 10 @ Milford, 4 – Final– Senior Kevin Geary notched his first career win on the mound as the Tigers rallied from a 3-1 deficit to take the lead. Sophomore Matt Muir cleared the bases with a three run triple, giving the Tigers the lead. Chris Romero, Josh Minuskin and Ryan Adams each had three hits on the day for OA while Muir, Matt Mancini and Chris Pearsons each had two.

Mansfield, 6 @ Attleboro, 0 – Final– Mansfield senior Maddie Letendre tossed her first no-hitter of the season, striking out seven in the win. The Hornets took a 1-0 lead in the fifth and then tacked on five more runs in the sixth. Consecutive singles from Bri Homer, Jocelyn Reardon and Marissa Staffier resulted in the first run. In the sixth inning, Kara Bendanillo singled, Mady Bendanillo walked, Maddie Letendre had an RBI single, Rachel Carafa had a two RBI single, Reardon knocked in a pair with a double, Marissa Staffier knocked in another run and Megan Letendre singled.
Canton, 3 @ Stoughton, 7 – Final– Karly Estremera and Sam Tullis set the pace for Stoughton’s offense, each scoring two runs each. Estremera hit a triple and stole two bases including a delayed steal of home while Sam Tullis added a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the fifth. Gina Carafa pitched seven innings, striking out five while giving up one earned run.
Sharon, 1 @ Foxboro, 9 – Final – Foxboro celebrated its seniors with a hit parade, totaling 12 as a team. Emma Rohan struck out 10 while allowing just three base runners (two hits and a walk). Offensively, Kelli McCarthy went 2-4 with two RBI, Hannah Davis was 3-4 with a home run, a pair of doubles and three RBI, Kelly Fisher and Kayley Tran each went 2-4 while Chelsea Gibbons was 2-3 on the day for the Warriors.
North Attleboro, 4 @ Franklin, 5 – Final– The Panthers used a suicide squeeze to score the winning run in bottom of the seventh for the win. Olivia DiGiacomo laid down a bunt with one out to score courtesy runner Kerry Blaney for the win. Maddie Connelly got things started in the final inning with a lead off double and moved to third on a single from Clara DeCarvalho (2-4, RBI double), who moved to second on the throw. A passed ball gave Franklin a shot to score the run but North was able to get the runner at home. After a walk to Alexx Niss (2-3, RBI double), DiGiacomo squeezed in the run. Before the winning run, Franklin rallied from a 4-2 deficit to tie the game in the sixth. Olivia Haba (2-3) led off with a single and pinch hitter Kim Moulton blasted a two-run home run to the game. Caroline D’Aprile got the win for Franklin, striking out five. Meg Barlow had three hits for the Rocketeers and Mycala Moody and Kaylea Sherman each had two.
Taunton, 2 @ King Philip, 0 – Final– Strong defense helped anchor Taunton’s season sweep over the Warriors. Taunton head coach Dave Lewry said Jordan Wade played great at shortstop and Meghan Navarro did the same at second base. Lewry also pointed to Bailey Clapp’s outfield assist in the fifth, throwing out a runner with Sarah Bagge applying the tag at home. Aimee Kistner struck out four, allowing three hits in a complete game shutout. Liana Duarte went 2-4 with a run scored and a stolen base, Jaime Brown was 1-3 with a double and Bagge went 2-3.
Milford, 15 @ Oliver Ames, 1 – Final (5 inn.)– Milford clinched at least a share of its fourth straight Davenport title, winning at least a share of the division ever since joining the Hockomock. Jess Tomaso was a perfect 4-4 at the plate, including a two run home run, and finished with five RBI. Kaitlyn DeCapua knocked in four runs on three hits, including a double, while Megan Jacques went 2-4 with an RBI. Kelley Reichert struck out four while scattering three hits for Milford. Jamie Gottwald went 2-2 with an RBI and a double for OA.

Ryan Smith had two goals and two assists to lead the Hornets while Connor Finerty also found the back of the net twice. Josh Schafer, Sam O’Connell, Hunter Ferreira (two assists), Joe Cox, Billy Grant and Jon Reed each scored once for Mansfield. Sean Powers made 13 saves in net for the Hornets.

North Attleboro, 6 @ King Philip, 8 – Final– King Philip built a 4-1 lead by the end of the first quarter and never trailed in a battle against North Attleboro. Senior Sam Agricola led the way offensively with three goals and an assist and junior Tim Watson potted two goals and had one assist. Harry Fallon had two helpers for KP while Anthony Truini, John DeLuca and Zach D’Amico (six ground balls) each scored once. Steven Eaton led the Warriors with 10 ground balls and KP head coach Jacob Kravitz praised the work of sophomore midfielder Nate Minkwitz (five ground balls) for his excellent defense.

North Attleboro, 5 @ Franklin, 0 – Final– North Attleboro and Franklin battled under the lights at the new courts at FHS. North Attleboro’s Julia Mark won 6-4, 6-4 at first singles, Jordan Willis won 6-0, 6-2 at second singles and Allie Grinavic swept 6-0, 6-0 at third singles. The team of Jhanavi Kapadia and Emily Chiasson won 7-5, 6-3 at first doubles and Gabby Duva and Katie Demontigny secured a 6-3, 6-2 win at second doubles for the Rocketeers.

NORTH EASTON, Mass. – Heading into the bottom of the seventh inning faced with a three run deficit, it looked like Oliver Ames was headed to its ninth loss of the season.
With two outs, not much had changed with the Tigers still trailing 4-1 to the Mansfield Hornets. But on a 2-2 count, OA senior Josh Minuskin belted a three-run home run into left center field, tying the game and it looked like the game was destined to head to extra innings.
But a walk, a single and a hit batter later, suddenly Oliver Ames had the bases loaded and a chance to win. Freshman Chris Pearsons blooped one into left field, right in between a charging left fielder and a pair of back pedaling infielders to score the winning run and the Tigers walked off with a 5-4 win at Frothingham Park.
The rally started with a one out walk drawn by senior Matt Mancini. After a pop out for the second out, sophomore Matt Muir battled his way to a walk to put two on with two outs. Minuskin got a fast ball on a 2-2 pitch and launched it into left center. Mancini and Muir came around to score easily and after a slight bobble at the cutoff in left, Minuskin was sent home and he was able to beat the throw to tie the game.
“He’s a senior captain and that was a bomb, easily the furthest hit all day,” Oliver Ames head coach Leo Duggan said. “With the weather today, we didn’t think the ball would go that far. And then coach [Ed] Rollo sent him home because there was an issue at the cutoff so that was a great call right there.
“We’re thinking we’re going to lose 4-1 or 4-2 maybe if Josh gets a single but then he got a good pitch he could drive and that was a bomb.”
The bases didn’t stay clear for long with Ryan Adams drawing a four pitch walk. Kyle Gagliardi followed with an infield single between third and short to put two on with two out. Sophomore Mitch Goulet was hit by a pitch to load the bases for the freshman Pearson. Pearson connected on the second pitch her saw, blooping one into left as Adams scampered home, sending the Tigers into a frenzy.
“We were happy we tied it so we had [Zach] Sato, probably our best pitcher, was going to warm up for the eighth,” Duggan admitted. “Then Ryan [Adams] drew a walk, Kyle singled and Mitchell got hit. We were playing for extra innings but all of a sudden they woke up. Chris is only a freshman and he seems to be getting better everyday. That was a big situation and he came through.
“That was a great ending, I’ve seen a lot in my long time coaching. We snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.”
Mansfield took the lead in the fourth inning and added a run in each of the fifth and seventh innings. However, the feeling was one the Hornets have had before.
“I just talked to the guys about playing a complete seven innings,” Mansfield head coach Joe Breen said. “For a team that hasn’t had the lead in the seventh inning a lot of times this seasons, I think we get a little too excited and think the game is over and don’t play to the last out. Unfortunately for us and fortunately for them, they played through the last out and came out on top.”
A leadoff single from Zack Peterson in the top of the fourth got things started for the Hornets. Junior Aidan Cahill followed it up by reaching on a throwing error and senior Mike Arnold loaded the bases with no outs after getting hit with a pitch. Tyrone Pascual grounded into a fielder’s choice, plating Peterson to make it 1-0. Jake Tryder singled in Cahill at the next at bat to double the Hornets’ lead.
Mansfield struck again an inning later with freshman Dan Saraceno leading off with a single. A sacrifice bunt from recently called up sophomore Cullin Anastasia pushed Saraceno to second and a ground out from junior Max Boen pushed the runner to third. Peterson came through with a two out base hit up the middle to extend Mansfield’s lead to 3-0.
Oliver Ames was able to pull a run back in the bottom half of the inning to cut the deficit to two. Mancini reached on a fielder’s choice and moved to third on a double from senior Chris Romero. Muir then knocked Mancini in with a grounder to second.
It looked like the Hornets added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning, again getting the lead off man on base. Colin Gibbons singled and moved to second on a sac bunt from Saraceno. Max Boen’s sac bunt attempt turned into an error with the throw hitting him as he raced to first, allowing Gibbons to scamper home to make it 4-1.
OA’s Michael Mulrean got the win for the Tigers, allowing a run in two innings of work. Muir was the starter, going five innings with two earned runs allowed. Jack Neureuter pitched a scoreless four innings for Mansfield while Jared Menzer pitched the final three innings.
Oliver Ames baseball improves to 6-8 overall and 6-5 in league play, putting them in second place in the Davenport Division. The Tigers will host Sharon on Monday while Mansfield (4-9 league, 5-10 overall) will play host to North Attleboro on the same day.

Attleboro, 3 @ Franklin, 4 – Final – Franklin rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh, the second scored by Jake Lyons (1-3, BB) on a wild pitch as the Panthers walked off with the win. Junior Tyler Gomes went 2-3 with a pair of RBI and Mike Skaza also added two hits for Franklin. Nick Santucci added a double, a walk and two runs scored. Ryan Morse earned the win after pitching a scoreless top half of the seventh. Bryan Woelful pitched a scoreless sixth in relief while sophomore Jake Noviello got a no decision after five innings of work, striking out seven with four walks. Attleboro’s Nate Tellier pitched six innings, striking out eight and scattering six hits. Jon Dunn went 3-3 with a walk for the Bombardiers, James Weir went 2-4 with two RBI and Patrick Collins had two hits, including a double.
Canton, 12 @ Foxboro, 5 – Final – Kevin Powers knocked in four runs and Mike McMahon had four hits as Canton’s offense tied its highest output of the season. McMahon was 4-5 with three runs scored and a stolen base while Powers had two hits, including a triple and a run scored. Joe Peccia added three RBI, connecting for a home run and three runs scored, Joe Bires knocked in a pair of runs and Jim Jenkins also had an RBI. Daniel Harnett went 1-2 with an RBI sacrifice fly and sophomore Matthew Casamento was 3-4 with two runs scored. Powers got the win on the mound, throwing four innings with seven strikeouts and two earned runs allowed. Steve Gorham pitched the final three innings with four strikeouts.
Mansfield, 6 @ King Philip, 7 – Final– Senior Jake Cavanagh took the mound in the seventh inning with the Warriors clinging to a one run lead, inheriting runners at second and third with just one out. But Cavanagh got out the jam, inducing a grounder to short and a fly ball to center to notch his first save of the year. Will Weir, Kyle Guenthner, Jake Lannigan and Jon Rolfe each had two hits for the Warriors. Rolfe got the win on the mound for KP, going 5.2 innings.
Sharon, 0 @ Milford, 8 – Final – Milford junior Blake Hill needed just 81 pitches in a three-hit complete game effort, striking out eight on the mound to earn the shutout win. Hill helped his cause at the plate, going 2-4 with two RBI and a triple. Sophomore Aidan Wilde also had two hits for the Scarlet Hawks, going 2-3 with a double and three RBI.

Attleboro, 0 @ Franklin, 12 – Final (5 inn.)– Clara DeCarvalho belted a three run home run and Julia Arms, Olivia DiGiacomo and Maddie Connelly all knocked in a pair of runs in Franklin’s big win. DeCarvalho went 2-4 with four RBI on the day while Connelly was 2-4, Arms went 2-2 with a walk and DiGiacomo was 1-3. Alex Niss added two hits at the plate for the Panthers. Kim Moulton and Amanda Mandall connected for a 6-3-2 double play, halting a threat from the Bombardiers. Caroline D’Aprile tossed three shutout innings with four strikeouts while Emily Sawyer pitched a scoreless final two innings.

King Philip, 6 @ Mansfield, 1 – Final – King Philip scored a pair of runs in each the fourth and fifth innings and capped it with another run in the seventh inning. Kali Magane pitched five innings, allowing just two hits and one unearned run while Jenn Hutynan pitched the final two innings, allowing just one hit. Magane helped her cause by knocking in a pair of runs in the top of the fourth and then Hailey McCasland knocked in Christa Wagner and Elise Pereira knocked in McCasland. Sydney Phillips knocked in a run with a triple in the seventh. Liz Mackin, Rachel Carafa and Megan Letendre each had a hit for the Hornets, who received a strong pitching performance from Maddie Letendre. Letendre struck out seven while scattering six hits.
Milford, 12 @ Sharon, 0 – Final (6 inn.)– Milford’s Kelley Reichert took a no hitter into the sixth inning, eventually finishing with a one-hit complete game shutout effort, striking out six for the Scarlet Hawks. Megan Jacques went 2-3 with a double and two RBI, Emily Hartman had a triple and an RBI, Jess Tomaso had a triple and two RBI and Kate Irwin was 2-3 with two stolen bases for Milford.
North Attleboro, 2 @ Taunton, 7 – Final – North Attleboro became the first team to score an earned run on the Tigers, plating a pair in the fourth inning. But Taunton pitcher Aimee Kistner only allowed five hits in the game with five strikeouts and the Tigers played “outstanding team defense” according to head coach Dave Lewry. Meghan Navarro was a perfect 4-4 at the plate with an RBI and Jaime Brown went 3-3 with three RBI. Katie Van Zandt was 2-3 with an RBI and Becka Lajoie added a base hit RBI for Taunton. North Attleboro’s Jordan Sharpe (single) and Liz Morehouse (double) were both knocked in by a Kaylea Sherman double for North Attleboro’s runs.
Oliver Ames, 10 @ Stoughton, 4 – Final– Victoria Ziner and Jamie Gottwald combined for 12 put outs in the field, backing up a complete game effort from pitcher Kayla Georgeu. The Tigers had 11 hits spread out through the lineup. Ziner was 2-3 with three runs scored, a stolen base and an RBI, Gottwald was 2-2 with two walks, a triple, an RBI and three runs scored, Missy Krim went 2-4 with a double and a run scored, Katie Pursley had two hits, two RBI and two runs scored for OA. Emma Papargiris and Jordyn Leite each knocked in two runs for the OA, Caroline Mahoney had an RBI and Rachel Han scored a run.

Taunton, 7 @ Milford, 5 – Final– Taunton rallied three times from deficits (2-0, 4-2, 5-4) to earn the program’s first varsity win and it’s first Hockomock League win. Freshman Ryan Williams played his best game according to head coach Kris Metea, limiting the Scarlet Hawks to just one early goal in the second half. Williams made 14 saves, with six of his nine second half saves coming in the final quarter. Senior Jason Stern recorded a hat trick to pace Taunton’s offense while sophomore Cam Welby scored twice and had one assist. Eighth grader Tommy Joyce recorded two points with a goal and an assist, junior Lee Gobin scored once and senior Kyle Hebert had an assist.

Junior Rahul Herur won 6-1, 6-0 at first singles and classmate Eli Brooks battled back for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win at second singles. James Johnston and Tom Mancini won 6-1, 6-0 at first doubles and Tyler DiPalma and Derek Wu won 6-1, 6-2 at second doubles for Franklin.

Mansfield, 2 @ King Philip, 3 – Final– King Philip took care of business in doubles play and secured the victory with one win at singles to beat Mansfield. Sam Colella and Ryan Gemelli continued their strong season with a 6-2, 6-2 win at first doubles and Justin Rohan and Marco DiStefano won 6-1, 6-0 at second doubles. Garrett Schneider clinched the win with a convincing 6-0, 6-2 win at second singles. Mansfield’s Benny Lin notched a 6-4, 6-4 win at first singles and Gus Daganhardt picked up a 7-5, 6-2 win at third singles.

Taunton, 0 @ North Attleboro, 5 – Final – North Attleboro won all five matches in straight sets to beat Taunton. Senior Mitchell Dyer won 6-0, 6-1 at first singles, junior Zack Pfeffer won 6-0, 6-3 at second singles and junior Barsomo Nuay won 6-0, 6-1 at third singles. The team of seniors Jeff Yao and Nick Lockavitch won 6-0, 6-3 at first doubles and senior Jake Fontes and junior Daniel Zhang won 6-3, 6-1 at second doubles for Big Red.
Stoughton, 1 @ Oliver Ames, 4 – Final– Oliver Ames was paced by three seniors in singles play to pick up the win. Thomas O’Leary won 6-1, 6-2 at first singles, Greg Weinstein won 6-1, 6-1 at second singles and Jared Hedlund won 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 at third singles.

Foxboro, 4 @ Canton, 1 – Final– Foxboro only dropped one game in all three singles matches combined to get the win. Diana Prinos and Lexi Nelson both won 6-0, 6-0 at first and third singles respectively while Sophia Prinos won 6-0, 6-1 at second singles. Diana Hickox and Michaela McCarthy added another win for the Warriors, winning 6-3, 6-4 at second doubles. Canton’s Tiffany Ha and Sarah MacQuarrie rallied for a 2-7, 7-6, 6-1 win at first doubles for the Bulldogs.
King Philip, 3 @ Mansfield, 2 – Final – King Philip took a pair of wins from doubles and won at third singles to edge out the Hornets. Sophomore Meghan Sepich helped clinch the win with a 6-3, 6-2 win at third singles. Riley Spillane won 6-3, 6-0 at first singles and Olivia Groebe won 6-4, 6-4 at third singles. The team of Lark Warner and Valeria Tueme won 6-2, 6-3 at first doubles and Rachel Stryke and Claudia Ferrara teamed up for a 6-3, 6-3 win at second doubles for OA.

Milford, 3 vs. Taunton, 1 – Final– After losing a close first game, Milford responded with a dominant second game scored a 23-25, 25-9, 25-22, 25-20 win over the Tigers. Senior Ryan White had 11 aces for the Scarlet Hawks along with 19 assists, six digs, six kills and six service receptions while senior Mike Haver had eight kills, four service receptions, a pair of digs and a block. Senior Juan Ruelas added six kills, five assists, a pair of digs and service receptions and a block for Milford and classmate Nick Roy had six kills, three digs and two aces. Junior Danny Zwonik also had two kills and two aces, along with a block, a dig and a service reception for Milford.

Mansfield, 1 @ Attleboro, 5 – Final – Attleboro starting pitching Nolan Kane was superb in six innings of work, allowing just one unearned run. Kane struck out four and allowed just three hits to get the win. At the plate, Dakota Kirby was 3-3 with a big two RBI double in the sixth inning and Nate Tellier had a pair of hits, scored one run and had a stolen base. Attleboro head coach Matt Bosh noted that Brandon Galvao played excellent defense at first base. Matt Callahan came in and pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning for the Bombardiers.
Canton, 2 @ Stoughton, 13 – Final – Ryan Sullivan did it all for the Black Knights, picking up the win on the mound and helping his cause at the plate. Sullivan tossed five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and a pair of walks while striking out four. At the plate, he scored three runs and knocked in a pair of runs. Luke Johnson led Stoughton’s offense, hitting a triple with the bases loaded and finished with another triple a run scored and five RBI. Jake Gibb went 2-3 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored, Doug Seaman scored two runs, Justin Hutchinson drove in a pair of runs and Nick Quattrucci also had a triple.
Sharon, 4 @ Foxboro, 8 – Final – Darren Kelly and Jesse Galanti each reached base three times and came around to score three runs each to pace Foxboro’s offense. Nick Wright and Steve Couroupacis combined on the mound for seven strikeouts.
Franklin, 6 @ North Attleboro, 2 – Final – Franklin used a four run seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie and secure the win. With the bases loaded and two outs, Franklin sophomore Jake Noviello’s fly ball fell in the infield for a pair of runs and Mike Skaza followed with a two run single to create the separation. North Attleboro took a 1-0 lead in the first inning behind an RBI single from Ridge Olsen, scoring Kyle McCarthy (single). The Panthers tied it up in the top of the third when Ryan Hodgkins singled, stole second and was sacrificed to third. He scored on a sacrifice fly from Nick Santucci. Franklin took the lead in the top of the fifth when Tyler Gomes singled in Hodgkins (triple). The Rocketeers quickly tied things up in the bottom of the inning behind a home run from sophomore Zach DeMattio. Hodgkins finished 2-4 with a pair of runs, Jake Lyons was 2/2 with a run and Santucci finished with three walks, a run and an RBI. Jake Noviello went six innings, striking out a pair while allowing two runs on four hits. Jason Ulrickson closed the game out for Franklin. North Attleboro’s Andy Katch was stellar in 6.2 innings of work, striking out three.
Milford, 10 @ Oliver Ames, 11 – Final (12 inn.) – In a back and forth affair, Oliver Ames was able to prevail in the 12th inning. Sophomore Mitch Goulet led off the inning with a single, was sacrificed to second and the Tigers walked off on an RBI single from sophomore Matt Muir. Muir and senior Chris Romero each had three hits for the Tigers.
Softball
Attleboro, 4 @ Mansfield, 6 – Final – Mansfield’s Rachel Carafa went 2-3 with an RBI, Maddie Letendre had two hits, Megan Letendre had an RBI and Kara Bendanillo and Jocelyn Reardon each had a hit for the Hornets. Maddie Letendre allowed just three hits while striking out nine for the win.
Stoughton, 3 @ Canton, 2 – Final – Gina Carafa pitched well for the Black Knights, giving up one run on five hits and striking out eight for the win. Offensively, Stoughton was led by Jordan Lyons, Jenni D’Andrea and Nicole Bodette, who got a pair of hits each. Bri Ferrandiz (RBI), Gina Carafa and Sam Tullis also got hits in the win for the Black Knights.
Foxboro, 5 @ Sharon, 8 – Final – Sharon junior Clara Cook threw a complete game, collecting 11 strikeouts and allowing eight hits. Offensively, Cook was 2-4 with a first inning RBI triple and a sixth inning RBI single. Senior catcher Rachel Usen and freshman Rebecca Clayman were also also 2-4, each recording a pair of singles. Sharon head coach Deb Parker said freshman Jody Goldenberg played an outstanding game in right field.
Franklin, 9 @ North Attleboro, 1 – Final – Maddie Connelly and Alexx Niss each knocked in three runs as Franklin picked up a big win over division rival North Attleboro. Connelly went 4-5 with three RBI while Niss had a three-run home run along with three walks. Olivia DiGiacomo added a two RBI double, Clara DeCarvalho had three hits and Olivia Haba had three hits and an RBI. Caroline D’Aprile picked up the win, going five innings with five strikeouts. Emily Sawyer pitched the final two innings for the Panthers.
Oliver Ames, 4 @ Milford, 10 – Final – It was another perfect day at the plate for sophomore Emily Piergustavo, going 3-3 with a double and an RBI. Shannon Cormier went 2-2 with a pair of RBI and Maggie Farrell knocked in a pair and had a triple. Maddy Bonvino was 2/3 with a double and Jess Tomaso was 1/2 with a sacrifice fly. Ali Atherton tossed a complete game, striking out eight. Oliver Ames’ Rachel Han was 3-4 with a pair of singles, a double and two RBI. Victoria Ziner was 2-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored and Lexie Campbell (1-3, two runs scored) and Jamie Gottwald also scored for the Tigers on Han’s double.

Attleboro, 2 @ King Philip, 14 – Final – Ten different players found the back of the net for King Philip, who built a big lead and never let it go. Freshman Collin DeVellis led the Warriors with a hat trick and one assist while juniors John DeLuca and Ben Palmer each netted a pair of goals and had one assist. Freshman Robbie Tartaglia scored his first career goal in the win.
Canton, 8 @ North Attleboro, 7 – Final (2OT) – Ben O’Neill scored a team-high five goals, including the game-winner in the second overtime to give the Bulldogs a big league win. The Bulldogs trailed 6-4 at halftime but were able to limit Big Red to just one goal in the second half and overtime periods. Canton goalie Chris Albert was a big reason for that with 19 saves. Joe Mulkay, Dan Dillon and Mike Shaw each scored once and Shaun Kirby finished with three assists for Canton.
Milford, 1 @ Foxboro, 25 – Final – Louis Piccolo was in the giving mood on Wednesday, recording a career-high 10 assists in the Warriors’ big win. Piccolo also scored twice while Andrew Whalen scored four goals and had one assist, Trey Guerrini scored four goals and had two assists, Colby Nickerson notched a hat trick and Brian Buckner had one goal and one assist.
Mansfield, 7 @ Franklin, 15 – Final – The Panthers built a six goal lead by halftime and stretched the margin to double figures (16-5) by the start of the fourth quarter. Austin Kent led Franklin with eight points, scoring five goals and adding three assists while sophomore Eric Civetti scored six goals and had one assist. Sam Arsenault added a hat trick in the for Franklin. Freshman Jacob Alexander continued his dominance at the X, winning 23/28 faceoffs. Franklin head coach Lou Verrochi touted the play of his defense in front of sophomore goalie Connor O’Rourke (six saves).
