Outlook:
It’s a new era in Canton as Anthony Fallon takes over for longtime head coach Dave Bohane, who stepped down from his second stint in charge of the Bulldogs at the end of last season.

While it’s a new era, all of the players and coaches are hoping that the success from the past two seasons continues going forward. If that success is going to continue, it’s going to be by a host of new faces. The Bulldogs graduated a historic class that won back-to-back Davenport division titles and reached the D5 South Sectional final in 2019. While competing for the Davenport division title this year, Canton will lean heavily on its few returners while new players take advantage of the new opportunities.

Senior Matt Connolly is a force on both sides of the ball, protecting the quarterback on the offensive line and leading the way for the ground game with his blocking. And defensively, the 6-foot-2, 300-pound senior who is committed to play at Assumption College, is an absolute handful and requires a lot of attention. Cam Sanchez is another experienced player back for the Bulldogs and will be involved in the running game offensively and apart of the secondary defensively. Carson Campbell started all 11 games for Canton last year at right tackle and will add defensive line duties this season. Jack Albert should see an expanded role on both sides of the ball and will be one of the main targets in the receiving game.

“Our team has great speed in our secondary, we are big and strong upfront and our linebackers are tough and fast,” Fallon said. “We have a solid mix on our varsity of juniors and seniors. I am also excited with our numbers on the sub-varsity level with 30-plus players. With a tough-minded defense and a fast offense, I know we will compete in every game.”

Foxboro

Outlook:
There is a lot of optimism in Foxboro for the Fall II season, and with a strong group of returning starters in different spots all over the field, there is good reason for it.

The Warriors seem to be in the mix for the Davenport division title each season, coming in third in 2019 and 2017. With talent back in key spots, Foxboro could be a serious contender for their first crown since 2015. The offense starts with the line and Foxboro has some experience and size to work with. Senior Sean Ferguson is a towering presence at 6’5, 315-pounds and anchors the line from the center position and he will be joined by junior Dylan Kerrigan (6’0, 205) at tackle. Senior Cam Prescott will start under center and will have a bevy of options to work with including playmaker Luis Sulham and junior Rashaad Way. Look for Chris McNamara to pick up where he left off carrying the ball.

Foxboro has an equal amount of playmakers on the defensive side of the ball with the strength of the team coming from the linebackers and the secondary. Seniors Mike Norvish and James Stamatos return with plenty of varsity experience under their belts and will anchor the linebacker position while senior James Kraus will start at safety and will be accompanied in the secondary by Way and Tom Sharkey, both juniors. One player to keep an eye out for is senior Jon Moses, a 6’4 defensive end that really improved over the course of last season and could be a handful for opposing offenses to deal with.

“The heart and soul of team this year is the senior leadership and experience along with a strong and talented junior class,” said Foxboro head coach Jack Martinelli.

Outlook:
North Attleboro was ravished by injuries during the 2019 season and the result was the program’s first sub-.500 season in 27 years. It speaks volumes to how consistent the Rocketeers are year in and year out that it had been that long but the Big Red are ready to turn the page and begin a new streak.

The Rocketeers are getting a lot of players back that missed time last year and also have a bunch of players back that were thrown into the fire last year and now have varsity experience. With that combination, North Attleboro is hoping the end result is the Davenport division title. Junior Tyler DeMattio is back under center for his second year as the starter after making a big splash on Thanksgiving his freshman season. DeMattio can get it done with both his arm and his legs (and his foot in the kicking game). He has a lot of weapons at his disposal this year with Jared Penta and Alex McCoy in the slots, Coby Feid and Matt Penta at split end, and 6-foot-5 Endicott-commit Robbie Donovan at tight end. Jacob Silva returns at tailback and will be complemented by senior Tommy Whalen while sophomores Nathan Shultz and Greg Berthiaume could be in the mix as well. Harry Bullock will anchor the offensive line alongside classmates Danny Hayes and Justin Vecchiarelli and juniors Jared Vacher and Keysun Wise.

On top of the eight returning starters on offense, the Rocketeers boast eight returners on the defensive side of the ball as well. North Attleboro has a lot of depth at the linebacker position with Silva, a team captain, being a key part of the group. He’ll be joined by Berthiaume, Vecchiarelli, Whalen, senior Dylan Eberle, and junior Tyler Bannon. Jared and Matt Penta are both very experienced safeties while McCoy and Feid return at corner, so the secondary will certainly be a strength for the Big Red. The Rocketeers don’t have the biggest defensive line but the likes of Donovan, Vacher, and Bullock provide speed from the edge.

“The extended off season has provided extra time for tremendous growth in the weight room,” said North Attleboro head coach Don Johnson. “The depth at the skill positions on both sides of the ball will be the strength of this team. The key will be how quickly and effectively we can put together our offensive and defensive lines.”

Outlook:
Oliver Ames is back in the Davenport division and is looking to make a splash in its first season back.

The Tigers had a lot of success when the league first split into two divisions, winning the Davenport title in 2011 and 2013 before making the jump up to the Kelley-Rex. With a strong group of players back, OA is looking to take the next step forward during the Fall II 2020 season. Senior captain Gavin Morrison is a two-way lineman and will anchor the offensive group from the center spot. He’ll be joined by senior Dante Cocivera and Max Tower, both returning players from last season. Junior Collin Williamson burst onto the scene last year and should see an expanded role in the backfield during this abbreviated season while sophomore Chad Silva should be in the mix as well.

Speed will be a strength on the defensive side of the ball for the Tigers, who boast a lot of the same faces on the defensive line as their offensive line. Tower anchors the linebackers and will be one to keep an eye on, using his speed and strength to make plays, and he’ll be joined by the sophomore Silva. Senior captain Jaden Ricci is one of the best defensive players on the team, a fast, physical player with a nose for the ball that will start at corner. He’ll be joined by senior Jaden Krowski in the secondary.

Outlook:
Sharon had a very young squad a season ago and went through plenty of growing pains. The Eagles are hoping to turn some of that experience into success on the field this season.

Not only do the Eagles have their quarterback and top receivers back, but they are also getting a big boost with a return from injury. Senior Kiran Chandrasekaran returns under center and has weapons in PJ McManus, Owen Conway, and Conor McLaughlin in the passing game. Nico Marrero, who showed flashes of great play as a sophomore, had to miss all of last year due to injury but is back this year and will be a key two-way player for the Eagles. Marrero is a powerful runner that will look to find space created by an improved offensive line. The Eagles’ offensive line is anchored by senior center Shea Letendre while junior Jack Murphy and sophomores Miles Clay and Daniel Davis help round out Sharon’s line.

Defensive the Eagles are always a competitive group, the challenge will be doing so for four quarters against some top offenses in the Davenport. Ike Ogbonnanze, who is also a big receiving target on offense, will start at linebacker alongside Marrero and Letendre, giving the Eagles a very experienced group in the heart of the defense. McManus and Conway will play on both sides of the ball, starting in the secondary defensively.

“Our kids know our numbers are not strong but they have a great attitude and are playing like their backs are against the wall,” said Sharon head coach Dave Morse.

Stoughton

Key/Returning Players: Christopher Ais, Sr., RB/LB; Christian Ais, Sr., RB/DB; Christian Georges, Sr., HB/DE; John Burke, Sr., QB/DB; Jake Queeney, Sr., WR/DB; Sproul Derolus, Sr., OL/DL;

Outlook:
Stoughton head coach Greg Burke always leans heavily on his senior class and he has a real talented group this year.

The Black Knights have a handful of very talented and experienced seniors that have played a lot of snaps over the past two seasons and that has Stoughton primed for a run a the Davenport division title. Senior John Burke is back under center at quarterback for the Knights and it’s likely we’ll see Brady Conlin take some snaps similar to how Burke split with Clayton Rahaman last season. Both quarterbacks will have plenty of options to work with, especially on the ground. The Knights have a “home run” type offense with any given handoff capable to break off a big run. Senior brothers Christopher and Christian Ais recently committed to the University of New Haven and both bring speed and power when running the ball. Christian Georges is another workhorse out of the backfield while juniors Anthony Girolamo and Jonah Ly could see some carries as well. What makes Stoughton’s run game so dangerous is all of the backs do a great job of blocking when they don’t get carries. Jake Queeney will be the main target in the passing game for the Knights. Sproul Derolus is one of the few returners on the offensive line so Stoughton will need some players to step up there.

Defense is always a staple for the Knights and that looks to be the case again this year. A lot of the same faces that make plays on the offensive side will be the ones making plays on the defensive side. Georges is an absolute monster coming off the edge and uses his speed and strength to cause havoc in the backfield. Christopher Ais will be joined by Ly and Girolamo at linebacker while Christian Ais, Queeney, and Burke are all returners in the secondary for the Knights.

“Hopefully without a ton of injuries we can have a good year,” Burke said. “We have some experience and the kids have worked hard in the clubs for weight training. We need the juniors to step up and contribute fast while still learning varsity speed. The league is always tough and hopefully, we can survive tough crossover games.”

King Philip, 30 @ Franklin, 45 – Final – Click here for a Photo Gallery from this meet. Despite having to forfeit three weight classes and starting the match down 12-0, Franklin rolled to a win that clinches the outright league dual meet title. It is the third Kelley-Rex title in the last four years for the Panthers. Drew DiFillipo started the comeback at 120 with a 10-2 win that cut the KP lead to 12-4. Devin Bramson got the hosts within two with a first round pin at 126 pounds and then a forfeit at 132 put the Panthers ahead 16-12. Jackson Kelley wasted little time putting the Warriors in front with a first round pin, but Alex Fracassa put Franklin ahead for good with a 10-2 win at 145. Following a KP forfeit at 152, Dom Sackley added six more points with a first round pin. At 170, Liam Cogavin jumped ahead 7-2 after two periods, but Cole Ricci battled back in the third with a takedown cutting the lead to three and then forcing Cogavin to hold on for the win and three points. Dylan Nawn put Franklin ahead 41-18 with a second round pin at 182, but Shawn Conniff answered back with a first round pin at 195. It was Conniff’s 130th career win and his 100th career pin. He is now two wins shy of the program record. Matt Walker closed out the meet with a 13-2 win at 220 before another forfeit at 285.

Hockomock League Dive Championships, 4:00 (@ Massasoit)

Boys Indoor Track
Oliver Ames, 61 vs. Attleboro, 39 – Final – Oliver Ames took first and second in three events and had six more first place finishes, including one relay, to earn a win over Attleboro. Junior Kyle Sarney clocked in at a league-best 9:44.64 to win the 2 Mile and sophomore Owen McMorrow (10:01.38) was second (third best in the Hock), senior Rory McLaughlin (4:40.07) and junior Nathan Reservitz (4:46.44) took first and second in the 1 Mile, and sophomore Ashton Hart (6.92) and junior Jaiden Daly (6.93) were the top two finishers in the 55M to lead OA. Hart also won the long jump (19-07.75), junior Ryan Petrillo was a double-winner, taking first in the high jump (5-10.00) and 55M hurdles (8.41), junior Jimmy Keane won the 1000M (2:49.88) and senior Ryan Hilliard crossed first in the 300M (37.87). Attleboro junior Nathan Seybert won the 600M (1:29.47) with classmate Joey Soucy taking second (1:32.81), and junior Ethan Crosby won the shot put (46-02.00).

Milford, 46 vs. Canton, 54 – Final – Canton swept both the 55M dash and the 300M race, taking first in three other events to earn a win over Milford. Jonathan Chery had another stellar showing, winning both the 55M (league-best 6.61) and the 300M (36.87). Junior Sainvil (6.76) and Cam Sanchez (6.87) took second and third, respectively in the 55M dash while Zachary Goldstein (37.12) and Andrew Butler (40.03) did the same in the 300M. Sophomore Kyle Downing won the 2 Mile (10:36.77), junior Deyontai Dennis took first in the high jump (5-10.00), and senior Nate Quan won the long jump (18-03.75). Milford senior Max Manor was a double winner, taking first in both the 1000M (2:52.70) and the 1 Mile (4:52.56).

Foxboro, 34 vs. North Attleboro, 65 – Final – The Red Rocketeers registered sweeps in both the shot put and the high jump on their way to a win over Foxboro. Emmett Ruote took first in the shot put with a toss of 43-08.25 while Joseph Beckett (39-10.00) and Jack Perriello (37-03.50) were second and third, respectively. Nick Taylor (5-08.00) took first in the high jump with Colby Feid (5-06.00) and Isa Siddiq (5-02.00) following. Kyle Robinson was a double-winner for the Big Red, crossing first in each the 1 Mile (4:59.14) and the 2 Mile (10:40.98) while Jack MacLaughlin earned a first place finish at 1:32.66 in the 600M. Foxboro’s Adam Connolly won both the 55M (7.06) and 300M (37.71), Ryan Proulx crossed first in the 1000M (league-best 2:40.43), Ali Nasri won the 55M hurdles (8.52), and Tyler Hagan set a new PR in a win at the long jump (19-00.00).

Franklin, 63 vs. King Philip, 36 – Final – Senior Jacob Cummings and junior Shane Bissanti each took home a pair of individual wins and the Panthers won three more events, plus both relays, to earn a win over King Philip. Cummings won both the long jump (19-09.25) and the 300M (37.98) while Bissanti crossed first in the 55M hurdles (9.44) and won the high jump (5-04.00). Alec Hanley (1:27.53) and Camden Harrington (1:27.95) went 1-2 in the 600M while Griffin Sieczkiewicz (10:47.01) and Joseph Zercie (10:49.74) did the same in the 2 Mile race. KP’s Mike Griffin and Franklin’s Tyler Brogan put on another show in the 1 Mile Race with Griffin (4:18.22) edging out Brogan (school-record 4:18.95), with KP’s Michael Norberg (4:24.56) taking third, the three clocking in the best three times among Hock runners on the night.

Stoughton, 52 vs. Sharon, 48 – Final – Stoughton won one of two relays and got key points from each the shot put, high jump, and long jump to edge out Sharon in a battle of unbeatens and win the Davenport division title. The Black Knights took first and second in both the high jump (Elisha Claude, 6-06.00 and Nathaniel Peters, 5-10.00) and the long jump (Claude, 21-06.25 and David Peters (21-02.25) while taking first and third in the shot put (Mark Edge, 46-11.25 and Jaden McCall, 39-07.00) to earn a close win. David Peters also won the 300M (36.40, PR) and the 55M hurdles (7.40, PR), Nathaniel Peters took first in the 600M (1:24.47), and Anthony Pizzano earned key points with a second place finish in the 55M hurdles (8.00). Sharon’s Patrick McManus won the 55M (6.70, PR), juniors Jordan Saks (2:48.33, PR) and Mark Starovoytov (2:48.79) took first and second in the 1000M, Starovoytov (4:58.73), Siddarth Reddy (5:00.98), and Bradley Weiss (5:02.67) swept the 1 Mile, and the Eagles swept the 2 Mile with Reddy (10:44.52) taking first, James Kong (10:59.69) crossing second, and Weiss (11:20.40) taking third.

Mansfield, 78 vs. Taunton, 22 – Final – The Hornets took first in all but one event to cruise to a win over Taunton and the 2020 Kelley-Rex division championship. Senior Andrew Williams continued his dominance, taking first in the 55M hurdles (8.36), the high jump (6-00.00), and the long jump (20-06.75). Mansfield swept the long jump with Jake Wall (20-02.50) and Joe Cappelletti (19-04.75) rounding out the top three as well as the 55M hurdles as Dylan Buchanan (8.61) and Chris Verros (9.03, PR) took second and third. Wall took first in the 55M dash (6.91, PR), Jack Rivard won the 300M (36.89), Peter Oldow placed first in the 600M (1:29.12), Mike Mullahy clocked in at 2:43.66 to win the 1000M, sophomore Chris Leonard set a new PR at 4:55.79 to win the 1 Mile (by 0:00.01 over Taunton’s Nolan Tavares), and Nico Holmes won the shot put (41-06.00). Taunton junior Ty Cali ran a PR in the 2 Mile, taking first in 9:56.61.










Girls Indoor Track
Oliver Ames, 47 vs. Attleboro, 53 – Final – Attleboro swept the 55M hurdles and took first and second in both the 300M and 1 Mile races to earn its first win of the season. Junior Meghan Panzer set a new PR, clocking in at 9.68 to win the 55M hurdles with sophomore Angela Cooney (10.00, PR) and junior Eleanor Graber (11.18) taking second and third, respectively. Junior Diana Blouin clocked in at 5:43.55 to win the 1 Mile while classmate Kelly Neuendorf took second in 5:51.96. Junior Cassondra Stuger crossed first in the 300M (43.49) and senior Jessica Matheson took second, setting a new PR (47.30). Neuendorf also earned key points by winning the 2 Mile (12:11.48) while Stuger took second in the 55M dash (7.97). Oliver Ames’ Madison Perry won a pair of events, taking first in the 55M dash (7.76) and the long jump (14-11.00).

Milford, 68 vs. Canton, 30 – Final – The Scarlet Hawks swept the 300M race and took first place in seven more races plus one relay to pick up a win over Canton. Sophomore Sarah Flanagan clocked in at 43.30 to take first place with classmate Maren Halpin (46.92) and senior Juliana France (48.09) crossing next. Flanagan also won the 55M dash (league-best 7.48), Sara Comisky won both the 1000M (3:34.36) and the 1 Mile (6:04.03), Kerry O’Connor placed first in both the long jump (16-02.25) and the 600M (1:40.58), Sarah Brogioli was a double-winner with first place finishes in each the 55M hurdles (9.27) and high jump (4-08.00), and freshman Sydney Kalil took first in the 2 Mile (13.29.57). Milford’s 4×400 relay team of O’Connor, Bella Gonzalez, Flanagan, and Halpin broke the school record by seven seconds, clocking in at 4:10.57. Canton’s Bronwyn Mahoney won the shot put (33-10.00) while the 4×200 team of Mia Walsh, Morgan Quinn, Leah Murphy, and Kiley Hanlon won in 1:57.59.

Foxboro, 25 vs. North Attleboro, 66 – Final – By sweeping both the high jump and 55M hurdles, and taking first and second in each the shot put and long jump, North Attleboro earned a win over Foxboro. Olivia Etienvre won the high jump with a leap of 5-02.00 with Ari Preacher (4-10.00) and Cassidy Becker (4-10.00) rounding out the top three while the same three swept the 55M hurdles in the same order, Etienvre winning in 9.07. Etienvre (16-06.50) and Becker (15-11.50) went 1-2 in the long jump while Alivia Byrne (30-01.00) and Arianna Newth (27-01.00) did the same in the shot put. Foxboro junior Emma Dahl took first in the 600M (1:45.67, PR) and freshman Emilia Lacy won the 1 Mile (6:03.88, PR).

Franklin, 42 vs. King Philip, 58 – Final – Franklin swept a pair of events but King Philip showed off its depth, taking wins in both relays and six other events to get the win. Junior Sofia DelVecchio won the 55M dash (7.66), junior Allison Beltramini took first in the 300M (45.03), juniors Isabelle Crocker (3:18.29) and Charlotte Majer (3:19.87) went first and second in the 1000M, sophomore Maya Evans won the 2 Mile (12:32.69), junior Milan Simmons (9.42) and senior Victoria Priestley (9.53) went 1-2 in the 55M hurdles, and seniors Sarah Vigevani (30-01.00) and Bailee Ziolkowski (29-10.00) took the top two spots in the shot put. Franklin swept the long jump with sophomore Jillian Fenerty (14-11.00) taking first and sophomore Ava Fraulo (14-10.50) and junior Katelyn Guidi (14-03.00) following as well as the 600M race, won by senior Samantha Powderly (1:45.84) and Sydney Hawkins (1:48.31) and Riley Fitzpatrick (1:50.06) rounding out the top three.

Stoughton, 40 vs. Sharon, 60 – Final – Sharon won eight events plus one relay to earn a win over Stoughton and clinch the Davenport division crown. Elizabeth Lee and Jada Johnson each won a pair of events for the Eagles, with Lee taking first in the 55M hurdles (8.65) and the 300M (44.95) while Johnson won both the high jump (5-02.00) and the long jump (17-04.75). Other winners for Sharon included Wendy Wooden in the 55M dash (7.78), Carolyn Bayha in the 600M (1:50.13), Daphne Theiler in the 1000M (3:12.79), and Taylor Saks in the 1 Mile (5:38.70). Stoughton picked up wins from freshman Elaine McCarty in the 2 Mile (13:52.97, PR) and senior Chinazo Odunze in the shot put (30-09.00).

Mansfield, 36 vs. Taunton, 63 – Final – The Tigers used a sweep in the 300M, took first and second in three other events, and won both relays to earn a win over Mansfield and force a three-way tie for the Kelley-Rex division title with the Hornets and KP. Junior Morgan Zakrzewski (44.08) won the 300M while Kerla Sylvestre (44.38) and Abieyowa Olaye (45.72) rounded out the top three. Junior Olivia Dias won the 600M in 1:43.04 while Nia Mainer-Smith (1:43.91) took second, Braelyn Nichos won the 1000M in 3:17.15 while Tatyana Mainer-Smith (3:18.05) took second, and Jaylin Couto took first in the shot put (28-07.50) with Olyvia Mendonca (28-05.00) taking second for the Tigers. Taunton also got wins from Amanda Labrecque in the 55M hurdles (9.28), Julia Labrecque in the high jump (5-00.00), and Victoria Gravel in the long jump (16-01.25). Mansfield swept the 1 Mile race with Tessa Lancaster clocking in at 5:38.07 for first, and Grace Doyle (5:51.15) and Celia Puleo (5:51.40) following behind. Jessica Alestock won the 2 Mile (12:46.14) and Gabrielle Devlin took first in the 55M dash (7.84, PR)

Milford, 70 @ Canton, 51 – Final – Milford junior Ben Blanchard (14 points) connected on four three-pointers in the second half, three in the third quarter alone, as the Hawks turned a one-point halftime lead into a comfortable win on the road at Canton. Milford held a 31-30 advantage at halftime before outscoring the hosts 19-9 in the third, with Colby Pires (14 points) adding a three of his own and Jordan Darling (23 points) scoring five in the frame. Darling scored 16 points in the first half, Milford having a 17-13 lead after a quarter. Nick Cushman scored a career-high 20 points for the Bulldogs, connecting on five three-pointers, while Eric Mischler added 15 points for Canton.

North Attleboro, 46 @ Foxboro, 63 – Final – Foxboro used a late surge at the end of the first half to create separation and pulled away with a solid second half to beat North Attleboro. The Warriors led 16-15 after a quarter and then turned defense into offense late in the second, Ryan Hughes scoring in transition plus the foul and Donald Rogers converting a layup after a steal from Brandon Borde, to take a 28-25 lead. Foxboro pushed the lead to 46-36 after three and scored 17 more in the final frame to secure the win. Borde scored eight of Foxboro’s 12 points in the second quarter and then hit a pair of threes in the third, totaling nine of his game-high 24 points in the frame to help Foxboro extend its lead. Hughes added 13 points and Rogers finished with 12 points in the win. Edan Kelley led North with 11 points and Brody Rosenberg added 10 points.

Oliver Ames, 64 @ King Philip, 72 – Final – Oliver Ames cut a 16-point half deficit down to seven entering the fourth quarter but King Philip connected on 14-of-23 free throws over the final eight minutes to hold on for the win. Alex Fritz hit five of those free throws and finished with a game-high 22 points, Andrew McKinney was 4-for-4 in the fourth from the line and had 16 points, and Chris Roy made four free throws and chipped in with 13 points. Fritz scored eight in the opening quarter to help KP build a 19-9 lead, while McKinney, Roy, and Tommy Donahue (eight points) each scored in the second to push KP’s lead to 36-20 at halftime. OA’s Owen Friel scored seven of his 17 points in the third, Amari Brown added 16 of his team-high 22 points in the second half, and Jay Spillane chipped in with seven of his 10 points in the second to help the Tigers get back in it. Ryan Burkett added 11 points for OA.

Sharon, 54 @ Stoughton, 71 – Final – Stoughton recorded an important division victory at home on Friday night with three players scoring in double figures. Senior Obinna Ugwuakazi led the way with a team-high 16 points while classmates Ahmad Jahed and Myles Grigalunas-Powell each scored 13 points.

Taunton, 51 @ Mansfield, 65 – Final – Taunton had a strong start to the game, building a 17-6 lead through eight minutes of play but it was all Mansfield over the final three quarters. The Hornets exploded for 24 points in the second to take a 30-26 lead by halftime, and then added 20 more points in the third to seize a 52-36 advantage through three quarters. TJ Guy scored seven of his 10 points in Mansfield’s big second quarter, Matt Boen added five of his 12 points in the second, and Brendan Foley (eight points), Cincere Gill, Chris Hill, and Sam Stevens (18 points) all scored in the second to help Mansfield take a lead it never relinquished. Stevens added eight points in the fourth quarter to help Mansfield close the door. Taunton junior Josh Lopes scored nine of his 14 points in the opening quarter while junior Tyler Stewart scored all 13 of his points in the second half.










Girls Basketball
Franklin, 73 @ Attleboro, 41 – Final – The Panthers continued to dominate, particularly on the defensive side of the ball, and remained unbeaten and one game up in the Kelley-Rex standings. Ali Brigham put up 20 points to lead Franklin, which also got 12 points apiece from sophomore forwards Olivia Quinn and Emma Sousa.

Canton, 53 @ Milford, 29 – Final

Foxboro, 61 @ North Attleboro, 33 – Final – The Warriors added some distance between themselves and second-place North Attleboro with a big road win. Katelyn Mollica continued her progress towards 1,000 points for her career with 16 on Friday. Shakirah Ketant added 14 and Lizzy Davis and Morgan Sylvestre each scored nine points. Abby Hassman was a force on the glass, pulling down 13 rebounds. Defense was the story in the first half, as Foxboro held North to just two points in the first quarter and led 31-13 at the half. It was a second straight tough shooting night for the Rocketeers but Amanda Kaiser scored nine to lead North. Summer Doherty added six and Olivia Forbes had five. North coach Nikki Correia said, “The girls are having a tough time putting the ball in the basket. We need to get back on track and play together and run the offense.”

Mansfield, 49 @ Taunton, 57 – Final – The Tigers were able to build a double-digit lead over the middle quarters and held on for a rare win against the Hornets. Freshman Kameron St. Pierre led the way for the Tigers with 19 points, but Taunton also had great balance with Sonya Fernandez adding 13 points and Jaelyn Fernandez and eighth-grader Sam Lincoln each scored nine. Ashley Santos was the game’s top scorer with 22 and Kayla Vine added 17 for Mansfield, but the Hornets only got 10 points total outside of its top two scorers. Taunton coach Amy Siggens said, “All of the things we have been working on came together,” and she praised her team’s composure down the stretch. It is Taunton’s first win in the series since the Tigers swept Mansfield in 2012-13, ending a streak of 12 straight wins for the Hornets.

Stoughton, 29 @ Sharon, 38 – Final – Leah Fandel scored 10 points and Kaitlyn Wallace and Trinity Payne each scored nine to lead the Eagles to an important division win. Mackenzie Manning paced the Black Knights with 10 points.

Mansfield, 83 vs. Attleboro, 17 – Final – Mansfield’s Andrew Williams set a new school record in the high jump, breaking a 42-year old record with a leap of 6-06.00 in the high jump as the Hornets rolled to a win. Williams set the previous mark of 6’5 set by Mark Colby in 1978 and added wins in both the 55M hurdles (8.26) and the long jump (20-03.25). Joe Cappelletti (19-10.50) and Jake Wall (19-07.00) took second and third, respectively, to give the Hornets a sweep in the long jump while Dylan Buchanan (8.66) and Wall (8.82) finished the sweep in the 55M hurdles. Wall added a win in the 55M dash (6.95), Jack Rivard won the 300M (37.33), Peter Oldow crossed first in the 600M (1:28.50), Owen Mullahy was the winner in the 1000M race (2:41.34), Mike Mullahy crossed first in the 1 Mile (4:50.18), and Chris Leonard took first in the 2 Mile (10:55).

Canton, 80 vs. Foxboro, 19 – Final – Canton’s Deyontai Dennis won three events while Jonathan Chery and Kyle Downing each won a pair of events to lead the Bulldogs past Foxboro. Dennis won the 600M (1:36.36), the long jump (20-07.25), and the high jump (6-00.00), Chery took first in the 55M (league-best 6.73) and the 300M (league-best 36.92), and Downing was the top runner in each the 1 Mile (5:00.22) and the 2 Mile (11:04.19). Elias Jabbour won the 1000M for the Bulldogs, while Cam Sanchez (shot put, 55M dash), Junior Sainvil (long jump, high jump), Jack Hernon (1 Mile, 2 Mile), and Andy Butler (55m hurdles) all had second place finishes for Canton.

Mansfield, 71 vs. Attleboro, 29 – Final – Cassondra Stuger was a double winner for the Blue Bombardiers and Kamsi Igbobi had a win and one second place finish in a loss to Mansfield. Stuger clocked in at 7.90 to win the 55M dash, and crossed the finish line in 43.04 to take first place in the 300M, qualifying for divisionals in the process. Igbobi won the shot put with a PR throw of 32-01.00 and placed second in the long jump (15-00.25, PR).

Canton, 26 vs. Foxboro, 74 – Final – Canton’s Leah Murphy set a new PR and Kayla Wong took first in the 1 Mile but the Bulldogs fell to Foxboro. Murphy set a new PR in the high jump at 4-10.00 to take first while Wong clocked in at 6:05.10 to win the 1 Mile race. Rosano Cho (long jump), Kiley Hanlon (55M), and Morgan Quinn (600M) had second place finishes for Canton.

Canton Beats Stoughton To Cap Memorable Season

CANTON, Mass. – The Canton football team has had two of its most successful seasons in recent history.

Last year, the Bulldogs ended on a sour note when rival Stoughton came to town and earned an upset win.

Canton wasn’t going to let that happen again.

The Bulldogs (10-1), who won the Davenport division outright this season, capped a historic season with a 30-8 win over the Black Knights (10-1) in the 94th annual Thanksgiving meeting between the neighbors.

It marks just the fourth time in program history the team has won 10 games, joining 1979, 1981, and 1987.

“The kids were disappointed last year, we didn’t play great and Stoughton came to play,” said Canton head coach Dave Bohane. “You see it over there on their sidelines…we had to live with that for a whole year. We didn’t want to let that happen again. I always knew it was important to the program, but that win two years ago and that whole feeling. It was a great day for the program, as is today, and it kind of started this run.

“We have a healthy rivalry. There’s a lot of talk about how the playoffs have taken the luster out of Thanksgiving, but not around here. I know how [Stoughton] values this rivalry, and I know how much we value it. Its two teams with mutual respect. Stoughton has a very good team that is very well-coached. Beating them on Thanksgiving is quite an accomplishment, that’s how we view it.”

Canton scored twice in the second quarter to take the lead and its defense pitched a second half shutout out, holding the Black Knights without a first down for nearly the entire second half.

Not only did the Bulldog defense prevent the Black Knights, who were without star two-way players Christopher Ais and Christian Georges due to injury, from moving the chains after the break, they limited the visitors to less than five yards on its first five series of the second half.

“For this program, for our class, this means everything for us,” said Canton senior David Allen, who had a second half touchdown catch. “We’ve won a lot together from when we were young. Getting knocked out of the playoffs hurt but to be able to take this trophy home to end the season means a lot to everyone on our team.

“It’s such a big rivalry. After a loss, you get to think about it but then it’s on to the next game, and especially with Stoughton, there’s a lot of extra motivation behind playing on Thanksgiving against them. We played very well defensively today, and we just had to grind it out on every play.”

After a scoreless first quarter that saw Canton come up with a stop against a goal-to-go situation for the Black Knights, the Bulldogs started the second quarter with 1st and goal from the 10 after a nice run from senior Kyle Fitzgerald (eight carries, 85 yards, touchdown) and 21-yard pass from Johnny Hagan (5-for-15, 99 yards, two touchdowns) to senior Jace Emma.

But similar how to the Black Knights were denied in the opening quarter, the Bulldogs couldn’t solve Stoughton’s defense. Despite getting down to the one-yard line, Stoughton got a good push up front from the likes of Carlvin LaGuerre, Oluwole Fabikun, Jerry Brisson, and Kelven Rodriquez, and senior Jaden McCall and junior Sproul Derolus combined for a huge tackle for loss on third down, and a fourth down pass fell incomplete.

Despite not scoring, the Bulldogs were able to flip field position, and cashed in on its next drive. On the first play from the Stoughton 35-yard line, Hagan floated one down the middle that Fitzgerald went up and grabbed over the defender and battled his way the final five yards for a touchdown. Owen Lehane’s point after made it 7-0 with 8:14 left in the second quarter.

Stoughton’s next drive didn’t go far thanks to a tackle for a loss on second down from Canton senior Jack Connolly, and a sack on third down from senior Lucas Ragusa. A good punt return from senior Gersom Rivera gave the Dogs the ball at the Stoughton 20-yard line.

Two plays later, Fitzgerald took his second straight handoff on a jet sweep and cut right up the middle for a 4-yard touchdown and a 14-0 lead with 5:39 left in the first half.

“It was a long break coming off the Holliston game, and you always worry if there will be a hangover from that loss,” Bohane said. “There was a couple of days I was a little worried but once we got back together, I could sense it. They are a very mature group, a lot of them play multiple sports and compete all the time. I could tell by the way they were acting that we’d be alright. The coaches did a great job preparing them and the kids came to play today.”

Stoughton responded with its best drive of the game to make it a one-score contest. Senior Clayton Rahaman (7-for-20, 147 yards) lofted one down the sideline that junior John Burke made a nice adjustment to haul in for a 35-yard catch, earning a first down on 3rd and 20.

Junior Jake Queeney got open and drew a pass interference call two plays later, and then moved the chains with an 11-yard catch. Sophomore Anthony Girolamo (11 carries, 30 yards) scampered for 13 yards to move inside the 10-yard line, and two plays later junior Christian Ais extended at the goal line for a 6-yard touchdown.

Rahaman connected with senior Anthony Pizzano for the two-point conversion to make it 14-8 with 1:14 left in the second quarter.

A good return from Rivera and a run from Hagan got Canton into scoring position with under a minute to go, but Ais came up with an interception in the red zone to put an end to the drive.

Neither team moved the ball to open the second half as Canton punted after a three-and-out, and Stoughton did the same after going backward. Field position benefitted the hosts again as they started at the Stoughton 29-yard line. Canton moved into the red zone but a holding penalty pushed them back and Burke broke up a pass in the end zone.

The Bulldogs settled for a 28-yard field goal from Lehane to make it 17-8 with 7:46 left in the third quarter.

While Canton’s offense tried to establish itself in the second half, the defense came it plenty of chances. Stoughton’s first four drives all resulted in punts and totaled -14 yards. Its fifth drive didn’t yield any yards and ended with an interception two plays in.

“The defense has been outstanding all year,” Bohane said. “We played great against Stoughton the first time too. We had a couple of lapses but Coach Eckler did a great job with his adjustments at halftime and we really never had any issues with the defense the rest of the way, it was an outstanding performance.”

Stoughton senior Savion Scott put an end to Canton’s next series with a terrific diving interception but the Bulldogs were back in business on their next series. Starting at their own 47-yard line, the Bulldogs needed just four plays to extend the lead.

Fitzgerald sprinted for a 19-yard gain, junior Cam Sanchez took a handoff for six yards, Hagan kept it himself for 20 yards, and Rivera capped the drive with an 8-yard touchdown and a 23-8 lead with 1:41 left in the third.

The Bulldogs’ defense picked up a lot of contributions from linebackers James Murphy, Ben Guerini, and Robbie Gallery, as well as linemen Matt Connolly and Nnamdi Onyemelukwe. Senior Vicki Revanche earned time on the offensive line in the fourth quarter.

Canton started its next drive at the Stoughton 33-yard line, and back-to-back runs from Sanchez and Rivera moved the sticks. Back-to-back penalties put Canton into 1st and 26, but Hagan delivered a pass to Allen right to the marker for a first down. Three plays later, Hagan hit Allen on the slant for a 7-yard touchdown and a 30-8 lead.

“When we lost last year, it was tough,” Gallery said. “Throughout the year, we were all looking forward to the Thanksgiving game and getting payback, that’s what it’s all about. It was a good win and it’ s nice to go out on a high note.”

Bulldogs Blitzed By Holliston in D5 South Final

CANTON, Mass. – After struggling to gain any traction on offense for the majority of the game, the Bulldogs looked they were just about to get back on track.

Trailing 14-7 to Holliston with just under 10 minutes left in the game, the Bulldogs quickly moved into Panther territory and even converted a fourth down that seemingly put the momentum with the hosts.

But two plays later, Canton fumbled in its backfield and Holliston pounced on the loose ball to put an abrupt halt to the drive.

It was just one of those nights for the Bulldogs, who dropped a 27-14 decision to the visiting Panthers in the D5 South Sectional Final. Canton also hurt itself with nearly a dozen penalties.

“We kind of flirted with that all year, I take full responsibility, we were kind of an undisciplined team and got away with it for many games,” said Canton head coach Dave Bohane on his team not helping themselves with penalties. “Tonight, in a game like this when you get to the sectional championship, we had some bad penalties and we paid for it. I don’t want that to take away from Holliston though, they executed very well like we thought they would. I thought our defense didn’t do a bad job, we just didn’t do enough to move the ball.

“[Holliston] is a good team and they’re going to do well going forward. I’m just super proud of my guys overall. Just an outstanding two years, it’s been great to be apart of it. It’s a sour taste to lose in the final twice but I don’t want to lose sight of all the accomplishments along the way.”

Canton’s fumble summed up a frustrating night on offense for the Bulldogs, who had to punt five times, turned the ball over on downs twice and finished with a pair of turnovers.

The Bulldogs had just forced Holliston’s high-powered offense (entered the game averaging over 30 points per game) to a three and out and started at their own 40 with 9:14 left in the game, trailing just 14-7.

Senior Johnny Hagan (11/26, 124 yards) hit classmate Jace Emma for eight yards on third down, and senior tailback Kyle Fitzgerald (18 carries, 101 yards; four catches, 26 yards) barreled his way for three yards on fourth and one to give the hosts the ball at the Holliston 44-yard line.

But after the fumble with 6:26 left, the momentum swung in favor of the Panthers and they cashed in on their chance. The Bulldogs defense did its part to force Holliston into a fourth and seven from the Canton 34-yard line, but the Panthers elected to go for it.

Matt Arvanitis dropped back and floated a pass up the middle to a wide-open Kevin Lyons, who had released off the line of scrimmage, and the play went for a touchdown to give Holliston a 21-7 advantage with just 3:58 left in the game.

In true Bulldog fashion, the hosts refused to go away without a fight. Canton orchestrated its best drive of the entire game, marching 73 yards on nine plays to find the end zone for the first time on the offensive side of the ball.

Hagan connected with Gersom Rivera for 32 yards on a fourth-down play to keep the drive alive early and then linked up with Cam Sanchez for 22 yards on third down to move deep into Holliston territory. Two plays later, Fitzgerald made a terrific diving catch in the end zone for a 17-yard touchdown, bringing the hosts back within a score at 21-14 with 2:09 left in the game.

Canton elected a squib kick up the middle with their entire kicking unit charging but a Holliston player was able to handle the play and the Dogs were whistled for a penalty on the hit, giving the Panthers possession at the Canton 36-yard line.

Holliston running back Tristan Benson (14 carries, 138 yards, two touchdowns) put an exclamation point on a superb second half, running for 28 yards on first down to get inside the 10 yard line, and two plays later plunged into the end zone from three yards out to restore the Panthers’ two-score lead, up 27-14 with 1:44 to go, securing the D5 south crown.

“I think Holliston had a lot to do with the outcome of the game,” Bohane said. “I don’t think we played our best but I don’t want to take anything away from the opponent that played great tonight and deserved to go on to the next round.

“These kids that have played for us have left an incredible mark on the program. I can’t say anything but great things about all of them, it’s been a pleasure to coach them. It’s been such a fun ride for me personally. I’m a proud coach and I just feel bad because they are crushed. We thought we could move on.”

The majority of the game played out as a defensive chess match with the teams trading stops. Holliston had to punt on two of its first three drives and had its other series come to a screeching halt when Robbie Gallery read a screen pass and hauled an interception.

Canton’s offense didn’t fare much better, turning it over on downs on the opening series after starting in Holliston territory, and then had to punt on its second series. Canton moved the ball on its third series, using nine plays to cover 44 yards but there was another big momentum swing when Holliston blocked a 43-yard field goal attempt. The ball ended up in the hands of Holliston’s Teddy Ratcliffe and he returned it all the way to the Canton 32-yard line.

With good field position, Holliston’s offense went to work and found the end zone two plays later. Arvanitis dropped a perfect pass to Christian Schneeloch, who hauled the pass in despite strong coverage, for a 6-0 lead with 9:45 left in the second quarter.

Canton’s next drive was slowed down early by a holding call but Hagan hit Emma down the left sideline for 26 yards to keep the drive alive. The Bulldogs converted another fourth down and moved into the red zone but a pair of incomplete passes resulted in a turnover on downs at the 11-yard line.

Canton’s defense came up with a big response on the next series though. On 2nd and 10 from the 21, senior linebacker Ben Guerini came flying in and landed a monster sack, jarring the ball free. Senior Jahmi Aldin scooped the ball up at the 12-yard line and raced into the end zone for a touchdown. Owen Lehane’s extra point gave Canton a 7-6 lead late in the second, a lead the hosts took into the halftime break.

“That defense kept me up late all week long, a lot of hours,” said Holliston coach Todd Kiley of the Bulldogs’ defense. “There is no weakness on that team, they are a phenomenal football team, one of the best ever I’ve had to prepare for. We’ve been through a lot of games with this program. That team, that coaching staff has done a phenomenal job, we just made a couple more plays than them.

“Our guys dug down and we made a big play when we needed to. Tristan Benson was huge in the second half, he kind of just took it over. Our line did awesome, and how about our defense today? It was just a total team effort. I’m going through all of our kids that made plays tonight, and it’s a long list.”

The Bulldogs had a chance to add to their lead on the opening drive of the second but went backward and had to punt. Holliston started with good field position at the Bulldogs’ 40-yard line and once again took advantage of the strong starting spot.

After throwing for the majority of the first half, the Panthers turned to Benson. The tailback’s speed gave the Dogs trouble, as he had runs of 12 and 19 before plunging in for a 5-yard score, and then the two-point conversion for a 14-7 lead.

Canton’s ensuing series ended with a three and out after Hagan and Fitzgerald just missed linking up on third down. On the next Canton series, Hagan had a 14-yard scramble erased by a holding call but responded to move the sticks. However, four plays later, a 38-yard pass and catch to Fitzgerald on third down was taken off the board after another hold, and Canton had to punt two plays into the fourth.

“I think they were just a little better in the middle than we thought,” Bohane said. “We’ve been able to stay the course and stay the course, and eventually wear teams down. But in a game like this, kids dig real deep and I give [Holliston] a lot of credit, they are very well-coached. They played hard, and I thought our kids played hard too. It was a good game that got away from us a little bit. [Holliston] does a lot of things offensively to put pressure on you.”

Canton football drops its first game of the season to push its record to 9-1. The Bulldogs will host rival Stoughton (8-2) on Thanksgiving at 10:00 AM.

Outlook:
Canton had its best season in recent memory a year ago, but the 2019 squad is aiming to take it one step further.

With starters back at almost every position, Canton is aiming to defend its Davenport division title and get back to the sectional final for the second straight season. Johnny Hagan is back under center this season and has all of his weapons back. The Bulldogs ran a mix of Wing-T and spread offense a year ago so Hagan is comfortable running whatever is needed this year. Kyle Fitzgerald, Gersom Rivera, and Cam Sanchez are all talented backs that can help grind down opposing defenses while Hagan makes a lot of plays with his feet as well. Jace Emma was one of Hagan’s favorite targets last year and he will be joined by David Allen as options in the passing game. The offensive line will be anchored by senior Jack Connolly, who missed a good amount of last season with an injury. Matt Connolly, Derrell Brown, and Lucas Bryant return to the line as well while Carson Campbell and Brandon Baran are in the mix for the final spot.

A lot of the same names will make plays on the defensive end as well with Jack Connolly and Matt Connolly teaming up with Nnamdi Onyemelukwe to provide size on the line. The strength of the defense will once again be with the linebackers as the Bulldogs have James Murphy back in the middle alongside junior Lucas Ragusa. Owen Lehane and Robbie Gallery both had strong seasons coming from the outside. The entire secondary is back for the Bulldogs with Rivera and Sanchez handle the corners and Fitzgerald and Allen provide physicality from the safety spots. And for special teams, Lehane handles kicking duties, Allen returns as the punter, and Rivera and Fitzgerald handle return duties. The Bulldogs will look to build some depth with so many two-way players in the lineup.

“We have a lot of experience with a lot of guys that have played at this level, and we had the playoff run so that should definitely help us down the road,” said Canton coach Dave Bohane. “We are focused on Dighton-Rehoboth, focusing on one game at a time. We have a lot of competitors that don’t quit.”

Foxboro

Outlook:
Foxboro’s biggest win of the season came in its final game, a thrilling overtime win over rival Mansfield at Fenway Park two days before Thanksgiving. If the Warriors are able to carry any of that momentum into the 2019 season, Foxboro will certainly be in the mix for the Davenport division title.

The Warriors return a good amount of talent from last year but will need to find a replacement for Liam Foley, who came on strong at the end of last season. Senior Shayne Kerrigan and junior Cam Prescott have both taken reps this preseason so longtime coach Jack Martinelli and his staff will have two good options to work with under center. Last year’s leading rusher Mike Luong also graduated so there will be an opportunity for someone to take on carries out of the backfield. The Warriors have good skill options in Brian Derba (three touchdown catches last year) and split ends Elijah Lewis and Ryan Hughes. Foxboro has some experience on the line as well as Zach Jenkins and Aidan Dow are both returning starters at the guard position.

Foxboro’s defense has returning players at all three levels so the Warriors will likely rely on that side of the ball, especially early on against two strong non-league foes. Anton George, a HockomockSports Hock 5 selection for defensive line, is back and will be a force to deal with for opponents. Austin Read will be key in Foxboro’s run defense from the defensive tackle spot. Mike Sheehan returns to anchor the linebackers group after a standout junior season. The secondary should be one of the top units in the league with a lot of experienced playmakers. Derba and Kerrigan made a lot of plays defensively last year and Michael Devlin could be poised for a big year for the Warriors.

“With a challenging scrimmage schedule and formidable non-league opponents, we should be prepared for the Hock grind,” Martinelli said “We have several key components returning to make this possible, but it’s one game at a time.”

Milford

Outlook:
Milford just missed out on the playoffs last season but the 2019 Scarlet Hawks are determined to get back to postseason play.

There is a lot of experience on both sides of the ball, and maybe most importantly, at key positions both offensively and defensively. The Hawks have Colby Pires back at quarterback after a big junior season that saw him toss 22 touchdowns, second most in the Hockomock League. But the challenge will be developing chemistry with a brand new set of receivers. Brendan White (12), Sean Lehane (5), and Shapel Feaster (5) all graduated so Milford is looking for new names to step up and make plays offensively. Junior Carter Scudo is a terrific athlete and will be one of the top options while Max Martin, Matt Varteresian, Herrick Louis, Kevin O’Connor, and Xavier Hilton are all battling to get reps on the field. Milford does bring back its leading rusher in Luke Rosa (seven rushing touchdowns), a very powerful back that will help the Hawks pound the ball. Juniors Nick Yohn, Dom Schofield, Mario Lee, and Dom Stallbaum provide a physical yet athletic offensive line.

The linebackers will be the heart of the Hawks’ defense this season. CJ Cerrella had a breakout junior year and will be on the top linebackers in the Hockomock League this season. He will be joined by Rosa, Louis, and O’Connor. A lot of the offensive line will see action on the defensive side of the ball as well while Scudo returns as a top defensive back at the safety position. Look for Martin, Varteresian, and Hilton to factor into the secondary as well for Milford this season.

“We have a very focused, determined, and excited team this season,” said head coach Anthony Vizakis. “They are a hard working group of guys with their eyes on one goal, one mission, and they are determined to do it together.”




North Attleboro

Outlook:
The Rocketeers have won four straight league titles, the last three in the Davenport division, and will be looking to make it five straight this year.

If North Attleboro does make it five straight, they will need some new players to step up into new roles to do so. The Big Red graduated a lot of talent in almost every position but the Rocketeers are a program that doesn’t rebuild, they reload. The strength of the offensive will start with the offensive line as there are three returning starters. Ethan Mottinger (6’6, 294), who committed to UMass over the offseason, and John Kummer (5’11, 256) man the tackle positions while Ethan Friberg (6’5, 252) adds additional protection from the tight end position. Senior Casey Poirier, junior Matt Penta, and sophomore Tyler DeMattio are locked in a healthy battle at quarterback with each bringing a unique skill set to the offense. North lost almost all of its skill position players but there are a variety of versatile junior backs battling for time. Friberg, Russell Dunlap, and Robbie Donovan will be options in the passing game.

The strong suit of the Rocketeers’ defense will be in the front seven with several returning lineman and senior captain Tom O’Neill anchoring the linebackers. Friberg will be on one end while Montrel Jackson will see time at the other defensive end position. Kummer is joined by Trevor Hewett at defensive tackle to give North a strong, experienced defensive line. Owen Harding and Jacob Silva are in the mix to join O’Neill at linebacker while North will look for some new names to step up in its secondary alongside Jared and Matt Penta. DeMattio returns as the kicker after a standout freshmen campaign (32-for-35 PAT, 3-for-4 field goals).

“We will need to find a way to stay healthy and quickly develop some depth,” said North Attleboro head coach Don Johnson. “With the inexperience in the skill positions, we expect there to be some early growing pains, but we are hopeful that the great attitude and work ethic that has been displayed in the preseason will help us overcome the lack of experience.”

Sharon

Outlook:
Sharon might not have as many players as some of the other programs in the league and might not match up in terms of size, but the Eagles have plenty of fight and are looking to showcase that this year.

The Eagles are going to look to capitalize on their team speed this year. Junior Nic Morrero was strong on both sides of the ball last season and will likely feature in the backfield this season for the Eagles. John Saab is another returning play that should pick up carries for the Eagles this year. Junior Kiran Chadrasekaran looks set to take over under center for the Eagles and will have a couple of experienced players to work with in senior receiver Alec Filipkowski and junior tight end Ike Ogbonnanze while junior receiver Owen Conway will likely see an expanded role this season.

Senior Jaden Williams-Thomas returns to anchor both the offensive and defensive lines and will be joined by junior Shea Letendre. Williams-Thomas will handle defensive tackle duties and should be a big part of the Eagles’ defense this year. Marrero anchors the linebackers alongside Saab and Ogbonnanze while Filipkowski and Conway will see time in the secondary.

“We have a great group of relentless players that have the right attitude and understand that they have a ton to prove,” said Sharon head coach Dave Morse.

Stoughton

Outlook:
Stoughton didn’t have the season it wanted in terms of record, but the Black Knights were competitive in just about every game last year and are hoping to get back in the hunt for the Davenport crown this year.

Despite finishing 4-7, Stoughton beat both Davenport champions in North Attleboro (21-10) and Canton (28-7 on Thanksgiving) during the year. If the Black Knights are able to string together those type of performances throughout the year, they will definitely be competing for their first division crown since 2015. Offensively, Stoughton has a good battle at quarterback with junior John Burke and senior Clayton Rahaman. Both saw time last year so head coach Greg Burke has two experienced options to start under center. The offensive line should be a strength for Stoughton with a good group of seniors that includes Oluwole Fabikun, Jaden McCall, Carlvin LaGuerre, and Jerry Brisson. Having a strong and experienced line will set things up nicely for the Black Knights strong run game, which will feature Savion Scott, Christopher Ais, and Christian Ais. Tight end Anthony Pizzano, junior Jake Queeney, and track star David Peters will provide options in the pass game.

Stoughton is often known for its defense and will be looking for that to continue during the 2019 season. Kelven Rodrigues will be a big part of the defensive line for the Black Knights, joined by Brisson, LaGuerre, and Fabikun. Georges had a very strong season on the end last season but will mostly line up as a linebacker this year, alongside Scott and Christopher Ais. Stoughton will have a hard hitting secondary once again this season with Burke, Pizzano, Christian Ais and Kamari Grant all likely to see time.

“We hope to stay healthy and be competitive in the league, all of our athletes improved their strength and conditioning,” Burke said. “We have many juniors also playing and will be a big part of the team. We will need help from all players and try to improve depth.”

Lucca Terenzio won the 110M hurdles (16.8) and took second in the triple jump (42’), and Jonathan Chery won the 200M (22.9). The Bulldogs swept the relays, with the 4×100 (Gersom Rivera, Cam Sanchez, Terenzio, Chery) finishing in 45 seconds and the 4×400 (James Vo, Nate Rose, Mike Mazzola, Zach Goldstein) clocking in at 3:44.7.

Williams won the 110M hurdles (16.5), the long jump (20’11”), and the high jump (6’2”), Comer crossed the line first in the 100M dash (11.5) and the 200M (23.0), Mike Mullahy was the winner in the 1 Mile (4:48.5) and brother Owen secured first in the 2 Mile with a time of 10:43.1. Colby Eason won the shot put by more than five feet (50’2”) and other winners for the Hornets included Dan Rapoza in the javelin (140’9”), the 4×100 team (Ethan Thevenot, Joe Cappelletti, Vinnie Holmes, Jack Barry;45.9) and the 4×400 relay team (Jack Moussette, Stephen Saba, Chris Verros, Raffi Marzella). Sharon, 4 @ Canton, 1 – Final – Sharon emerged with a 4-1 win in a match that Eagles coach Diane Micheroni noted the score doesn’t reflect how close it was. Nupur Shukla earned a 7-5, 6-1 win at first singles, Valeria Barajas notched a 6-3, 6-3 win at second singles, and Charlize Martinez picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at third singles for the Eagles. The team of Maikala Cheung and Lauren Glass won 6-3, 6-0 at first doubles for Sharon. Canton’s Nyah Claiborne and Rose Hazam picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win at second doubles.

Stoughton, 0 @ Foxboro, 5 – Final – Foxboro didn’t drop a game in any of its singles matches and won both doubles matches in straight sets to beat the Black Knights. Pam Nelson, Sarah Prag, and Julia Muise each won 6-0, 6-0 at first, second, and third singles, respectively. The team of Kendall Milender and Paige Krockta secured a 6-2, 6-1 win at first doubles while Lindsey Young and Maria Shehata earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at second doubles.

Franklin, 0 @ Taunton, 5 – Final – The Tigers defended home court with a sweep over visiting Franklin. Jillian Pagliuca won 6-0, 6-0 at first singles, McKenzie Lucie earned a 6-1, 6-0 decision at second singles, and Jocelyn Pagliuca won by default at third singles. The team of Sam Martin and Brianna Fevrier didn’t drop a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win at first doubles while Ogechi Ariguzo and Cayeesha Charles earned a 7-5, 6-0 win at second doubles.

Mansfield, 4 @ Oliver Ames, 1 – Final – Click here for a photo gallery from this match. – Mansfield won a pair of matches in singles action and swept doubles action for a win on the road over Oliver Ames. Lizzy Elsner earned a come from behind 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 win at first singles while Aryana Khosravani battled to a 6-4, 7-5 win at third singles. The team of Hannah Podolske and Sam Sternburg picked up a 7-5, 6-3 victory at first doubles while Alex Burnham and Lauren Hobaica secured a 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 win at second doubles. Oliver Ames’ Maura Kiernan picked up a 6-1, 6-3 win at second singles.

Attleboro, 58 @ Oliver Ames, 78 – Final – Oliver Ames’ Aaron MacDonald was a quadruple winner and the Tigers swept the relays to earn a victory over Attleboro. MacDonald won the 400M (52.8), the 200M (23.0), the long jump (19’10”), and the triple jump (40’11”) for the Tigers. Chucky Akanegbu, Jared Boone, Collin Williamson, and Ashton Hart teamed up for a win in the 4×100 relay (47.5) while Sean Flaherty, Nate Reservitz, Alex Ramirez, and Zane Reservitz (3:46.1) won the 4×400. Flaherty also won the 400M hurdles (59.8) and Zane Reservitz earned a victory in the 1 Mile (4:48.7). Other winners for OA included Kyle Sarney (2 Mile, 10:11.6), Quinn Proudler (shot put, 41’6″) and Ryan Tamasanis (high jump, 5’8″).

Stoughton, 94 @ Canton, 42 – Final – Tommy Pulcini and Cam Sanchez took first and second, respectively, in the discus with both posting big PRs for the Bulldogs. Sanchez also had a third place finish in the 100M while Deyontai Dennis had a four second PR to qualify for divisionals in the 400M hurdles, while adding a third place finish in the high jump. Junior Sainvil won the 100M dash while taking third in the long jump and the 200M for Canton.

Foxboro, 28 @ Milford, 99 – Final – Milford’s Tyler Giroux won a pair of events as the Scarlet Hawks raced past visiting Foxboro. Giroux took first in the 400M hurdles (1:05.5) and the discus (106′ 7″). Other winners for Milford included Anton Luckett (high jump, 5’4), Pedro Moura (100M, 11.1), Joey Madden (1 Mile, 4:37), Rafaell Feliciano (400M, 53.2), Max Manor (800M, 2:05.7), Hugo Lopes (200M, 22.9), Nick Yohn (shot put, 38’4), and Max Martin (long jump, 19’4).

Franklin, 50 @ Mansfield, 86 – Final – Mansfield’s Andrew Williams won three events, anchoring a sweep in the high jump, to help the Hornets get a win over Franklin. Williams took first in the high jump (6’2) with Ethan Thevenot (5’10) and Drew Rooney (5’6) taking second and third. Williams also won the long jump (16’2) and the 110M hurdles (16.6). Greg Waters was a double winner for Mansfield, taking the 100M dash in 11.1 and the 200M in 23.2 with Anthony Comer taking second in both events. Other winners for Mansfield included Danny Knight (400M, 51.9), Jason Windvogel (800M, 2:00.4) and Danny Rapoza (javelin, 144′ 2.5″).

Stoughton, 62 @ Canton, 54 – Final – Canton’s Maddie Rousseau went unbeaten for the second straight dual meet, earning wins in the 100M, 200M, long jump, and triple jump to pace the Bulldogs. Rousseau qualified for the 200M with her win. Sarah Collins also notched two wins, taking first in the 400M hurdles and 400M. Chloe Pennacchio added first place finishes in the 1 Mile and 2 Mile and Annie Hoban used a strong final kick to take first in the 800M. Bronwyn Mahoney took first in the discus and grabbed second in the shot put while freshman Talya Mendez-DeGraw placed third in the 100M and qualified for divisionals with a leap of 4’10” in the high jump.

Foxboro, 57 @ Milford, 70 – Final

Franklin, 54 @ Mansfield, 82 – Final – Mansfield senior Amanda Mangano shined, winning four events to help the Hornets beat visiting Franklin. Mangano won 100M dash, 200M dash, long jump, and the high jump for the Hornets. Freshmen Anna Darlington (400M) and Megan Johnston, (2 Mile) each won an event while classmate Anna Buckley broke the school record for freshman in the triple jump and the high jump. Senior Julia Hill won the triple jump while taking second in the 400M hurdles and the long jump.

Milford, 3 @ Bellingham, 0 – Final – Milford cruised to a 3-0 sweep (25-8, 25-19, 25-4) win over Bellingham, who is in their first year at the varsity level. Charlie Vo had a team high seven kills for the Hawks while Nathan LeBlanc paced the defense with 20 digs.

Canton, 37 @ Milford, 50 – Final – Tied at 19 at halftime, Milford used a dominating second half to pull away from visiting Canton. The Hawks outscored the Bulldogs 18-7 in the third quarter to build a double-digit lead that it held on to for the win. Sophomore Jordan Darling and senior Danny Corsini each had a team-high 13 points for Milford while Brendon Sailer added 10 points. Devin Foster scored a game-high 15 points for Canton.

Foxboro, 53 @ North Attleboro, 42 – Final – Holding a one-point lead after threw quarters of play, Foxboro limited North Attleboro to just seven points in the final quarter to pull away with the win. The Warriors led 36-35 heading into the fourth but used a 7-0 run to create some separation at the beginning of the final period. Junior Brandon Borde scored 20 points in his first game back from injury while sophomore Kevin Gallagher added 18 points for the Warriors, who hit nine three-pointers. Josh Montague had a team-high 13 points for North.

King Philip, 64 @ Oliver Ames, 69 – Final – Oliver Ames led 52-41 entering the final quarter and never surrendered the lead, hitting free throws down the stretch to clinch the win. OA senior Sean O’Brien scored 14 of his career-high 19 points in the second half senior Ethan Eckstrom added 15 points, and Harry DeChellis and Jay Spillane each chipped in with 11 points. King Philip’s Alex Fritz scored a career-high 21 points while Bruce Saintilus added 18 points.

Mansfield, 83 @ Taunton, 67 – Final – Mansfield junior Sam Stevens poured in a career-high 35 points to pace the Hornets to a win over visiting Taunton. Stevens connected on 13 field goals, including seven three-pointers, and hit both of his free throws to help the Hornets earn the win. Mansfield led by five at the end of the first (23-18) and then extended its advantage to 17 by the halftime break (44-27). Tommy Dooling and Matt Boen each added 13 points in the win. Taunton senior Mike Quinn scored a career-high 27 points while John Martins added 17 points for the Tigers.

Stoughton, 77 @ Sharon, 64 – Final – Stoughton scored 22 points in the third quarter to create a large enough cushion to secure a win on the road at Sharon. The Black Knights led 21-11 after one and took a 39-31 lead into the locker room. Stoughton junior Obinna Ugwuakazi led the Black Knights with 22 points and 13 rebounds while classmate Tahkwan Gates Brown also had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Ben Kaplan scored a career-high 19 points to pace Sharon.

Attleboro, 28 @ Franklin, 58 – Final – Ali Brigham was the top scorer for the Panthers with 24 points and Bea Bondhus scored 12 to keep Franklin unbeaten in the league.

Milford, 22 @ Canton, 55 – Final

North Attleboro, 42 @ Foxboro, 57 – Final – Katelyn Mollica scored 14 points and Abby Hassman added 11 as the Warriors bounced back from their first loss of the season with a division win.

Oliver Ames, 66 @ King Philip, 54 – Final – Oliver Ames led by just two at halftime but opened its lead up with a strong second half. Freshman Caroline Peper had a team-high 16 points while senior Alex Sheldon added 14 points and sophomore Caroline Flynn finished with nine points. Shannon O’Connor scored 18 points to lead a KP team that was missing a couple of players due to illness, including leading scorer Faye Veilleux. Emma Glaser chipped in with 10 for the Warriors.

Taunton, 21 @ Mansfield, 49 – Final – The Hornets shut out Taunton in the first quarter and held the Tigers to just 10 points through three quarters to pull out the win. Emily Vigeant knocked down four threes and scored a game-high 14 points. Maggie Danehy added 11 points and 14 rebounds and Becca Hottleman had seven points, four assists, and three steals. Lily Patneaude had five points and Alexa White had four in the loss.

Attleboro, 37 vs. Mansfield, 63 – Final – After falling behind 33-30, Mansfield went 1-2 in shot put (Colbey Eason, Nico Holmes), took first and third in the high jump (Andrew Williams, Ethan Thevenot), and swept the 2 Mile (Mike Mullahy, Cullen Lancaster, Trevor Flint) to clinch the win before winning both relays. Mansfield’s 4×200 relay team of Aidan Sacco, Greg Waters, Joe Cappelletti, and Jack Rivard ran the top time in the Hock so far this season.

Franklin, 66 vs. Oliver Ames, 34 – Final

Canton, 35 vs. Stoughton, 65 – Final – Canton junior Christopher Rota took first in the 1 Mile (5:09.59) and freshman Kyle Downing was first in the 2 Mile (11:24.65) and second in the 1 Mile but the Bulldogs fell to Stoughton. Sophomore Cam Sanchez won the 55M dash while the 4×400 relay team of James Vo, Zach Goldstein, Mike Mazzola, and Deyontai Dennis clocked in at 3:48.39 to take first.

Attleboro, 21 vs. Mansfield, 79 – Final – Mansfield improved to 5-0 in dual meets and claimed the Kelley-Rex division title with a win over Attleboro. The Hornets got strong performances from its seniors, including Amanda Mangano, who won three events. Senior Alexis Kiyanda won the 300, senior Bryn Anderson took first in the 100, and senior Zoe Plante won the 55M hurdles and took second in the 55M dash. Sophomore Tessa Lancaster ran a PR in the mile to take first and freshman Maria Sevastos earned first in the 600M.

Canton, 34.33 vs. Stoughton, 65.66 – Final – For Canton, Chloe Pennacchio was a double-winner, taking first in the 1 Mile (5:56.01) and the 1000M (3:30.68), Liz Bickett earned first in the high jump (4-06.00), and Bronwyn Mahoney finished with the top throw in the shot put (30′ 1.5″).
