Canton, 52 @ Archbishop Williams, 33 – Final – Canton senior Brian Albert notched his first career double-double as the Bulldogs finished the season with their ninth win. Albert had 10 points and 10 rebounds, Tony Harris led the team with 17 points while hauling in seven rebounds and Devin Foster chipped in with 12 points and seven assists.

Stoughton, 56 @ Foxboro, 68 – Final – Foxboro senior Mark Clagg poured in a game-high 23 points while junior Joe Morrison added 16 points to claim the Warrior Classic championship. Morrison was named tournament MVP and Clagg was named to the all-tournament team. Jamaine Few added 10 points for Foxboro. Stoughton’s Cam Gomes had a team-high 14 points and was named to the all-tournament team.

Franklin, 70 vs. Dorchester, 53 – Final – Josh Macchi was named the Franklin Winter Classic tournament MVP, leading the Panthers with 15 points. Connor Peterson and Connor Goldstein each added 12 points for the Panthers. Sophomore Jalen Samuels was named to the all-tournament team.

King Philip, 60 @ Framingham, 53 – Final – King Philip sophomore Shannon O’Connor led the way for the Warriors with 23 points, including a 10/12 effort from the free throw line. Freshman Chloe Layne stepped up to add 14 points while Christina Hathaway and Julia Leroux both had strong defensive efforts for KP.

Foxboro, 69 vs. Randolph, 58 – Final – Foxboro had a strong third quarter, turning a five-point lead into a double-digit advantage (57-45) going into the final quarter. It was a balanced scoring attack for the Warriors with four players scoring in double-figures. Senior Andrew Block led the way with 14 points, freshman Brandon Borde added 12 points and Joe Morrison and Joe Bartucca each scored 10 points. Mark Clagg added nine points and Jamaine Few finished with eight points.

Franklin, 70 vs. Cardinal Spellman, 66 – Final – Franklin was impressive in the first three quarters, building an 18 point lead before Spellman closed the gap in the final quarter. Franklin senior Josh Macchi registered a career-high 22 points while junior Paul Mahon added 15 points and sophomore Jalen Samuels finished with 14 points.

King Philip, 87 @ Somerset-Berkley, 44 – Final

Milford, 73 vs. Medway, 46 – Final – With its back against the wall, Milford put on a dominant performance to qualify for the state tournament for the second straight year. Scarlet Hawks seniors combined for 52 points to lead the way. Anthony Arcudi had a team-high 18 points while Nate Davila had 14 points, Zack Tamagni had 13 points and Alex Macek chipped in with seven points. Junior Kayden Kelley had 11 points and 17 rebounds in the win.

Oliver Ames, 66 @ Walpole, 53 – Final – Oliver Ames finished the regular season on a high note, taking the consolation game in the Rebel Classic at Walpole. Junior Jack Spillane poured in a team-high 25 points to pace the Tigers while Carter Evin added 15 points and Dylan Mahoney chipped in with 12 points. OA now awaits seeding for the D2 South tournament.

Sharon, 62 vs. Xaverian, 58 – Final – Sharon won the 2017 Walpole Hoop Classic win a win over Xaverian, ending the 2017 campaign on a four-game win streak. Junior Malik Lorquet was named tournament MVP, scoring 12 points and adding 14 rebounds. Junior Jimmy Fitzhenry was named to the all tournament team after scoring 14 points. Senior Ricardo Ripley finished with a team-high 17 points, eight assists and seven rebounds.

Stoughton, 64 vs. Tantasqua, 59 – Final – Stoughton junior Cam Andrews dropped a team-high 20 points and senior Cam Gomes chipped in with 13 points as the Black Knights advanced to the finals of the Warrior Classic to play Foxboro.

Girls Basketball
North Attleboro, 51 @ Attleboro, 47 – Final – The Rocketeers avenged an earlier loss to the Bombardiers. Emily Schromm was the top scorer for North with 13 points and fellow senior Samantha Taggart scored 12. Attleboro was led by Sarah Deyo’s 22 points.

Foxboro, 54 vs. Whitman-Hanson, 39 – Final – Recently named league MVP Ashley Sampson led the way for the Warriors with 27 points and senior Kristen Bortolotti added 12 in the win. Foxboro will face Lincoln-Sudbury in the final of the Warrior Classic on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Stoughton, 8 @ Foxboro, 2 – Final – Junior forward Brendan Campbell scored a career-best four goals to lead the Black Knights. Sophomore Sean Doherty netted a hat trick and classmate Luke Bainton found the back of the net once.

King Philip, 1 @ Norwood, 4 – Final

Taunton, 3 @ Mansfield, 5 – Final – Mansfield scored three goals in the third period to earn two points and qualify for the state tournament. The teams were level 1-1 after the first period, and then 2-2 during the second period. Tim Arnold gave the Hornets the lead in the third period on assists from Chad Piotti and Cullin Anastasia. Freshman Chris Jenkins gave Mansfield a 4-2 advantage on the power play, taking a feed from Anastasia. Taunton cut the deficit to one but Matt Farragher scored a shot handed goal off an assist from junior Tyler Oakley. Joe Olsen scored in the first period on assists from Farragher and Oakley while Farragher scored in the second on an assist from Olsen.

Attleboro, 67 @ Oliver Ames, 61 – Final – Oliver Ames made a push in the second half with 24 points in the third quarter, and took a 53-46 lead, but the Bombardiers battled back to get the win an earn a postseason berth. Nate Douglas scored a career-high 16 points while Jake Dunkley also added 16 points for the Bombardiers. Lucas Boucicaut added 13 points in the win. Oliver Ames senior Nick Welch had a game-high 20 points while Jack Spillane and Carter Evin each had 13 points and Dylan Mahoney added 11 points.

Milford, 48 @ Foxboro, 55 – Final – Milford took an 11-10 lead after the first quarter but it Foxboro seized control in the second quarter and never looked back. The Warriors took a 29-25 lead by halftime but then relied on a late surge in the third quarter to create separation. Andrew Block dropped a career-high 20 points, including two threes late in the third. Mark Clagg also hit a three in the third to help the Warriors get the separation. Joe Morrison added 12 points and Jamaine Few chipped in with 11 points. Milford’s Anthony Arcudi had a team-high 17 points while Zack Tamagni and Kayden Kelley each had 10 points.

King Philip, 63 @ Taunton, 64 – Final – Taunton freshman Dante Law hit a three pointer at the buzzer to lift the Tigers over the Warriors. Law (18 points) took a pass from sophomore Luis Vendrell (13 points), who drove the lane before kicking it out to Law. Vendrell had the tying bucket for the Tigers, converting an outlet pass from Tommy MacLean (12 points) to knot the game with 12 seconds to play. KP’s Seth Sullivan scored a pair of free throws to put the Warriors ahead but Law’s buzzer beater.

North Attleboro, 66 @ Stoughton, 56 – Final – North Attleboro had its two leading scorers come alive in the final quarter. Brent Doherty (six rebounds) scored 11 of his 21 points and Jonny Friberg (10 rebounds) netted eight of his 21 points in the fourth quarter as the Rocketeers qualified for the postseason for the first time since 2011. North Attleboro took a 43-42 lead into the final quarter but outscored the Black Knights 23-14 in the frame. Senior Kyle McCarthy (10 rebounds) helped carry Big Red in the middle quarters, totaling 10 of his 12 points between the second and third quarters. Stoughton’s Cam Gomes had a team-high 17 points while Matt Valle added 14 points and Ryan Sullivan finished with 10 points.

Girls Basketball
Oliver Ames, 55 @ Attleboro, 50 – Final – Oliver Ames junior Kayla Raymond scored 20 of her career-high 31 points in the second half to lead the Tigers to a season sweep of the Bombardiers. Oliver Ames held a 25-19 advantage at half but Attleboro took a slim lead early in the fourth quarter. But Oliver Ames was able to battle back to earn the win. Raymond also had 10 rebounds while Hannah Carroll added 12 points and Niyera Mitchell registered 12 rebounds. “It was a great defensive effort,” said OA head coach Laney Clement-Holbrook.

Foxboro, 54 @ Milford, 33 – Final – Ashley Sampson led the way for the Warriors with 19 points and Lily Sykes added 12 for Foxboro, which remained in a first place tie with North Attleboro.

Franklin, 37 @ Mansfield, 59 – Final – The Hornets sealed the outright Kelley-Rex division title with the victory. It is the third league title in program history and first time that the Hornets have won back-to-back championships. Meg Hill scored 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Mansfield, while Jen Peel scored 18 points and had six assists and Ann Maher scored 11 points. Franklin was led by freshman Ali Brigham’s 11 points and also got nine points from senior Carli Koffinke.

Taunton, 30 @ King Philip, 54 – Final – KP was led by sophomore Julia Leroux, who finished with 18 points, and classmate Shannon O’Connor, who tallied 11 points. Jess Regan was the top scorer for the Tigers with nine points.

Stoughton, 25 @ North Attleboro, 48 – Final – Caroline Collard had 13 points to lead the Rocketeers, who stay in a first place tie with Foxboro with the win. Val Whalen was the top scorer for Stoughton with 11 points.

Boys Gymnastics
Attleboro @ State Championships (@ Newton North) – Attleboro placed fifth overall with a score of 142.95.

Law, Vendrell Help Taunton Bounce Back At Stoughton

STOUGHTON, Mass. – Taunton sophomore Luis Vendrell kept his team afloat in the first half and freshman Dante Law took control in the second half to lead the Tigers to an 80-61 win at Stoughton.

Vendrell scored 11 big his career-high 17 points in the first half as the Tigers took a 32-29 lead into half. Law – who drained a three before the halftime buzzer to give the Tigers that slim lead – went on to score 15 of his career-high 22 points in the second half.

It was a stark comparison in performances for Taunton, who were limited to just 36 points on Monday in a game at Franklin.

“It was better [than Monday] but we are just not doing a good job rebounding,” said Taunton head coach Charlie Dacey. “With our size, OK that’s an issue but still you have to lay a body on someone and keep them off the boards. It’s almost like they saw our game on Monday, decided to sell out on the boards and send six, seven guys on the boards.”

After a back and forth first quarter – a period that featured five lead changes and three ties – the Tigers held 14-11 lead. A three from Tommy MacLean (nine points, eight assists, four steals, four rebounds) stretched Taunton’s to six but Stoughton rattled off a quick 6-0 run to tie the game again.

The teams traded baskets until the final seconds, when Law drained his free throw just before the buzzer off an inbounds play.

The teams stayed within possession or two of each other for the first half of the third quarter and Colin Sanda’s (career-high 13 points, five rebounds) bucket brought Stoughton within three, 40-37 with just under fourth minutes to go.

But that’s when Taunton was able to gain some separation, rattling off a 14-4 run to conclude the quarter. Freshman Naz Kenian (11 points) got the run going, Law drained a three and Vendrell drove the lane for a quick 7-0 spurt. Stoughton freshman Ajahn Rue converted a three point play for the Black Knights but Vendrell got back to back baskets inside the final minute and Law beat the buzzer once again with another three to hand Taunton a 54-41 lead through three.

“The threes loosened it up a bit for us,” Dacey said. “But our gym is such a comfort zone for us. We play so differently. This gym and Attleboro are the two bugaboos for us.” Taunton shot just 6/22 from three (26/45 from 2PT).

The Tigers had their best offensive quarter of the game in the fourth, dropping 26 points.

Stoughton cut the lead to nine with three minutes to play but Taunton responded with a 9-0 run to put the game out of reach. Kenian drained a three, Lens Esquil (14 points, 10 rebounds) converted a layup and a pair of three throws and Vendrell his a pair of free throws to put the Tigers up 73-55.

Matt Valle added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Black Knights while sophomore Josh Cocchi chipped in with a career-high 10 points. Cam Gomes had eight points and eight rebounds.

Taunton boys basketball (12-6 overall, 7-6 Hockomock) is scheduled to be back in action on Friday when they host King Philip. The Warriors won the first matchup 70-51. Stoughton (3-12, 2-11) will host North Attleboro on the same night.

Mansfield, 66 @ Attleboro, 56 – Final – Mansfield erased a four point deficit in the fourth quarter, closing the game with a 14-0 run to earn the win on the road. Mansfield senior Benjamin Albanese connected on a trio of three pointers and finished with a career-high 13 points to help the Hornets. Christian Weber hit four three-pointers for a team-high 18 points while Sam Goldberg had 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Attleboro freshman Bryant Ciccio scored 14 points while senior Jake Dunkley netted 11 points.

Milford, 36 @ Canton, 46 – Final – Canton used a 20-point second quarter to build a 31-15 lead at halftime and then held the Scarlet Hawks to just six points in the final quarter to earn the win. “It’s nice to see focus and execution,” said Canton head coach Ryan Gordy. “We had a game plan coming in and what we practiced carried over into the game. When we are focused we can be a dangerous team. Milford is explosive so we new we had to defend for four quarters.” Junior Tony Harris led the Bulldogs with 16 points and 11 rebounds while classmate Jake Verille added 13 points for Canton.

Stoughton, 47 @ Foxboro, 62 – Final – Foxboro built a 10-point lead in the first quarter and held onto that lead the rest of the way. The Warriors went up 22-12 at the first and 35-22 at halftime. Foxboro used a 7-0 run to begin the fourth quarter to put the game away. Senior Jamaine Few tied a career-high with 17 points while Joe Morrison added 16 points and freshman Brandon Borde chipped in with nine points. Stoughton senior Cam Gomes had a team-high 11 points.

King Philip, 52 @ Oliver Ames, 63 – Final – Oliver Ames moved within a win of qualifying for the state tournament with a win over King Philip. Senior Nick Welch scored a team-high 19 points while junior Jack Spillane chipped in with 13 points for the Tigers.

Foxboro, 65 @ Stoughton, 49 – Final – Kristen Bortolotti scored 19 points to lead the Warriors, who moved a half-game in front of idle North Attleboro at the top of the Davenport division. Grace Tamulionis added 14 points and Ashley Sampson had 12 for Foxboro.

Franklin, 49 @ Taunton, 29 – Final – Bea Bondhus had a team-high 14 points for Franklin and freshman Ali Brigham added 11 as the Panthers made it three straight wins and seven wins in the last nine games.

Oliver Ames, 51 @ King Philip, 35 – Final – Oliver Ames limited the Warriors to just 12 points at halftime, rolling to a 51-35 win on the road. Kayla Raymond dropped a team-high 19 points for the Tigers while Niyera Mitchell chipped in with 10 points.

Hockey
North Attleboro, 3 @ Oliver Ames, 1 – Final – Connor Ford put North Attleboro up 1-0 in the first period and Erik Clements scored his first goal of the game early in the third period to give the Rocketeers a 2-0 lead. Oliver Ames’ Eric LeBlanc cut the deficit in half midway through the final period and the Tigers had a couple of chances to tie the game with the goalie pulled, but Clements got his second of the game with an empty netter to ice the game. OA freshman goalie Owen Connor made 27 saves in his first start.

King Philip Rides Fourth Quarter Run Past Stoughton

STOUGHTON, Mass. – In a game in which the largest lead either side had was four through the first three quarters, it was only a matter of time before one side rattled off a game-changing run.

That run came from the King Philip Warriors, who went on a 10-0 spurt that took less than two minutes in the final quarter to pick up a 62-51 win over Stoughton.

The teams were tied at the end of the first quarter (15-15), separated by just two at halftime (29-27 Stoughton) and again knotted through 24 minutes of play (42-42). The largest lead at that point was when the Black Knights led 25-21 late in the first half.

Stoughton scored on its first two possessions of the fourth quarter on baskets from Cam Gomes (12 points) but wouldn’t add another field goal the rest of the way. Nolan Bradley started the run, taking a pass from Pharoah Davis to tie the game at 46 with 5:44 to play.

Seth Sullivan (14 points) took in a defensive rebound and went coast-to-coast for a layup on back to back possessions to give the Warriors a 50-46 lead. Sophomore Kyle Layman (21 points, six rebounds, three blocks) hit a jumper and then found Sullivan on a cut up the middle for a layup to cap the 10-0 run with four minutes to play.

A free throw from Stoughton’s Cam Andrews (17 points, seven rebounds, three assists) followed by two more from Craig Goodrich brought the Black Knights within five (54-49) with 3:08 to play but Justin Vine answered on the other end for KP. After a stop defensively, KP missed on the other end but Will Weir grabbed the rebound and Sullivan converted two free throws with just under two minutes to play to make it 58-49.

“The wins are huge at this point in the season,” said KP head coach Mark Champagne said. “We have to win 11 [to qualify for the tournament] because we have the 21 games. It’s a really good win and we really needed the win too.”

“I think [the run] was all driven by their defense,” said Stoughton head coach John Gallivan. “They just stepped it up a notch and took it to a level that we didn’t have an answer for. A six point lead seemed like 26 when it’s been that kind of game. They stepped it up and we stepped it back, and that’s what happens.”

After missing time in the first half because of an eye injury, Sullivan gave the Warriors a big boost in the second half. The senior scored all of his 14 points in the second half with 10 of them coming in the final quarter.

“We had a lot of adversity int he first half with Seth out, [Tom] Madden sick – I thought he sucked it up and played well – and Noah Goodwin isn’t even here, he’s got the bug. Every team is going to go through the flu,” Champagne said. “That was a good, gritty win. We were tied after three, down two at halftime. We came out and did a good job against their pressure. I thought we scored off of it a lot. Down the stretch, it was a little scary with some of the decisions we made playing against the clock but they had to foul just to get the bonus so that wasted more time.”

Both Layman and Andrews had strong starts for their respective sides. Layman was 4/7 from the field to net nine points in the opening quarter while Andrews was 3/5 (2/2 FT) to lead the Black Knights with nine points as the teams were tied 15-15.

Both sides got help from the bench in the second quarter. While Adrian Castillo and Bradley provided a spark for KP, Stoughton got four points from Izon Swain-Price and two points apiece from Justin Ly, Luis Monteiro and Matt Gallagher to take a 29-27 advantage into the break.

Although King Philip won the game, the Warriors were held without a three point field goal (0/10).

“Seth wasn’t in the game as much, [Justin] Vine stepped in on one he made – Justin did a good job down the stretch and Pharoah was in foul trouble in the first,” offered Champagne. “I thought Adrian Castillo and Nolan Bradley did a great job off the bench. Bradley only had seven points but they were big points.”

The win marked the second time Layman, just a sophomore, went over the 20-point mark this season. He scored a career-high 24 points earlier this month in a win over Taunton.

“It’s becoming more consistent, and as it should be,” Champagne said. “Just like Cam Andrews is for them, he’s a very good player. I think it’s a matter of confidence for a sophomore. Sophomore year is an interesting year but he’s done a great job for us.”

King Philip (4-8 overall, 3-6 Hockomock) will look to make it two in a row when they welcome Sharon to Wrentham on Friday night. Stoughton (3-8, 2-7) tries to bounce back the same night with a trip to Franklin.

Second Half Adjustments Push Milford Past Stoughton

STOUGHTON, Mass. – After 16 minutes of play, Milford head coach Paul Seaver knew he needed to change something.

Although his Scarlet Hawks trailed by just one, the defense was having a tough time stopping Stoughton junior Cam Andrews, who had 17 points by the halftime break.

The change came in the form of an intensified defensive effort with a full court 2-2-1 press, a switch from man-to-man to a 2-3 zone and a strong focus on getting offensive from down low.

Those changes resulted in a strong second half for the Scarlet Hawks and a 56-50 win over the Black Knights in both teams’ first Davenport clash of the season.

“It’s good to start the division games off on the right foot,” Seaver said. “It was a frustrating non-league loss on Wednesday. To bounce back two days later shows a lot of resiliency from the guys. We finally get to go home next week after five of our first eight on the road. But we have to turn the page and have a good practice tomorrow.”

Stoughton jumped out to an early lead but Milford chipped away and took its first lead, 11-10, behind a layup from Zack Tamagni (17 points) in the final minute.

Andrews (20 points, seven rebounds) took control of the second quarter – a frame that saw five lead changes in the first minute alone before Stoughton held a slim lead the rest of the way. Andrews shot 4/5 from the field and 4/4 from the free throw line for 13 points in the quarter. Tamagni helped keep the Scarlet Hawks close, registering eight points in the frame while Zach Tomarro hit a late three to bring Milford within one, 27-26, at halftime.

With the changes installed to start the second half, the first four minutes when nearly as perfect as Seaver could have hoped for. Milford’s zone disrupted the rhythm of Stoughton’s offense as the Black Knights went 0/5 from the field and had four turnovers in four minutes.

“Even when we got open looks, we didn’t him them and we were tentative,” Stoughton head coach John Gallivan said. “I thought a lot of that started at the far end with their full court stuff. Even if they didn’t get a steal, they made everyone think twice before you do one thing. Sometimes if it was between ‘A’ and ‘B’ and we chose ‘A,’ it should have been ‘B.’”

Meanwhile on the other end, Milford’s game plan to get junior Kayden Kelley (16 points 11 rebounds) touches was working. Kelley went 4/6 to start the quarter, including a put back off a miss for an 8-0 run of his own to start the second half.

“Cam Andrews ate us up in the first half so that’s pretty much why we needed to go zone,” Seaver said. “[Getting the ball down low] was a focus for us and [Kayden] wanted the ball, he was demanding the ball tonight and he did a good job and that’s what he needs to do,” Seaver said. “He’s an upperclassman now, he’s been on the team for a couple of years. Tonight might have been his best offensive game of his career.”

Cam Gomes (13 points, 10 rebounds) converted a traditional three point play to break Stoughton’s scoreless skid but Kelley came back down the other end with another post basket. Stoughton’s Matt Valle (eight points) drained a three late to cut the deficit to four but a pair of free throws from Milford’s Brendan White gave the Scarlet Hawks a 41-35 lead going into the final quarter.

Tamagni had four points in the first three minutes of the final quarter while Gomes had a pair of free throws. With Milford leading 45-37, Tammaro stepped up to bury a three on back-to-back possessions and the Scarlet Hawks took a 51-37 lead with four and a half minutes to go.

“I thought the kids played hard, I thought they did a nice job of executing our defensive game plan,” Gallivan said. “Milford has some tough guys out there, they have a lot of weapons. If you focus too much on the three-point line, and you saw what happened in the third quarter with Kelley, he was a beast in that quarter. You choose your poison and sometimes its not pretty either way.”

Milford was able to keep a 10 point cushion for the rest of the way until Stoughton scored four points in the final 30 seconds.

Milford boys basketball (4-3 overall, 2-2 Hockomock) return to action on Tuesday with a visit from Canton. Stoughton (1-5, 0-4) will try to bounce back on the same day when it hosts Foxboro.

Late Rebounds Help Stoughton Land Win At Randolph

RANDOLPH, Mass. – Through three quarters, Randolph held a significant advantage on the boards and a four point lead on the scoreboard.

But over the final eight minutes, on the back of senior captain Ryan Sullivan, Stoughton dominated in the rebound category, which translated into a 60-56 win over the Blue Devils.

Trailing 56-55 with less than a minute to play, Sullivan came down with his fourth offensive rebound of the quarter off a missed layup. Instead of going right back up in traffic, Sullivan spun around and found a wide open Colin Sanda, who drained the go-ahead three pointer with 30 seconds to play.

Sanda came down with the rebound on the other end off a missed three from Randolph, who had to foul. Stoughton missed both free throws with 12.8 seconds to play but Sullivan muscled his way to his fifth offensive rebound of the quarter. He quickly found Cam Andrews, who was fouled. Andrews drained two free throws with 7.8 seconds to play to ice the game.

Sullivan finished with 10 rebounds, seven of which came in the fourth quarter. Stoughton and Randolph finished with 28 rebounds apiece despite the Blue Devils holding a 24-16 advantage through three quarters.

“The toughness factor, at times, has been missing…Sullivan came through,” Stoughton head coach John Sullivan said. “Sanda doesn’t get to shoot that three without Sullivan getting that rebound and making a great decision to kick it out an open shooter instead of forcing it up against a guy who already had blocked a couple of shots. We were really pleased with how the kids finished the job, down to Andrews hitting his free throws, it’s obviously nice to have that four point lead.”

While Stoughton’s offense stalled over the final couple of minutes, the Black Knights relied on an extended 3-2 zone, keeping the Blue Devils scoreless over the final three minutes of the game. Stoughton had kept Randolph in check with the zone through the first half but switched to man-to-man in the third quarter.

Gallivan elected to go back to the zone with just under four minutes to play and Randolph scored just four points.

“We were hoping just to get a turnover, like a travel or a ball thrown out of bounds,” Stoughton head coach John Gallivan said. “[Randolph] is too well coached to stay in one thing all game. [Randolph head coach] Kalon [Jenkins] is going to pick it apart eventually, and they did. So we thought maybe we could go back to it and it’d take them awhile to make the adjustments. When they hit Robinson in the middle, the zone looked awful but when they couldn’t hit him, it looked great. It was a risk and it paid off.”

The Knights got that turnover with just under a minute to go, with led to the sequence of Sullivan’s rebound and Sanda’s three point.

It was Sanda’s second triple of the game. After Stoughton went just 2/15 in the first three quarters, Sanda stepped up early in the fourth quarter. With Randolph up 46-42, Sanda hit a three to cut the lead to one with just under seven minutes to play.

Randolph’s Davon Robinson (22 points, 10 rebounds) gave the Blue Devils their largest lead at 52-47 with five minutes to play. But Stoughton answered right back as Cam Gomes (nine points, six rebounds) drew a double team and found a wide open Matt Gallagher (four points, three assists, three steals) for an easy layup to get within a possession.

Gomes hit two free throws to get within one but Robinson answered with a bucket inside. Andrews (21 points, five rebounds) came back with a traditional three point play to tie the game, 54-54, with 3:15 to play.

“Colin hit those threes when we really needed them too,” Gallivan said. “I thought Gomes was terrific too, recognizing when he got it on the block, there was a double and someone was open and he hit Gallagher on the weak side for a layup so I thought his recognition skills were terrific. And Andrews, I thought he sucked it up through a lot of thing being throw at him. He played AAU for Kalon so he knows him as well as we do. I knew it’d be a tough game for him but he hung there and was productive.”

Stoughton boys basketball earned its first win of the season with the victory, improving to 1-4. The Black Knights first four opponents had a combined 17 wins entering Friday night’s games.

“The longer it goes the more frustrating it gets and little things become big things,” Gallivan said of the tough start to the season. “But strength of schedule being what it is, there isn’t a team on that list of losses that anyone would say “we want to play them.” There’s no easy games on the schedule. We have to make it ugly, we have to make it a rock fight…and bring enough rocks.”

Franklin, 69 vs. Danvers 29 – Final – Franklin turned a four point lead at the end of the first quarter (11-7) into a big advantage (35-16) at halftime. By the end of the third quarter, the Panthers were up 59-26. Paul Mahon led Franklin with 20 points, Matt Elias added 12 points and Jalen Samuels had nine points.

Mansfield, 81 @ Key West (FL), 49 – Final – The Hornets made a splash in their first game in Florida, putting up 50 points in the first half on their way to a big win. Sam Goldberg scored 13 of his game-high 19 points in the opening quarter to pace Mansfield. John McCoy added 11 points and Kristian Conner scored 10 points in the win. Twelve different players scored in Mansfield’s win.

North Attleboro, 66 vs. Fitchburg, 51 – Final – Senior Jonny Friberg had another dominating performance as North Attleboro claimed the Lincoln Sudbury Warrior Winter Slam title. Friberg earned tournament MVP honors after scoring 20 points and hauling in 11 rebounds. He averaged 17 points and 14.5 rebounds in the two games. Chad Peterson, who was named to the all-tournament team, scored 18 points and had six rebounds. Senior Brent Doherty also had 18 points and six rebounds.

Sharon, 47 vs. Tewksbury, 58 – Final – Ricardo Ripley led the Eagles with 16 points while Malik Lorquet notched his first double-double of the season with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Both Ripley and Lorquet were named to the Wilimington all-tournament team.

Stoughton, 67 vs. Boston Latin Academy, 70 – Final – Stoughton junior Cam Andrews tied a career-high with 24 points as the Black Knights fell just short to BLA. Cam Gomes added 16 points for the Black Knights.

Taunton, 59 @ Durfee, 50 – Final

Girls Basketball
Attleboro, 68 @ Cranston East, 51 – Final – Attleboro wins the Cranston East Holiday Tournament title.

King Philip, 65 vs. Tiverton, 24 – Final – Shannon O’Connor and Sophia McLaughlin, who hit four threes, each scored a team-high 13 points for the Warriors. Julia Leroux added 12 points to help pace the offense. “We shot the ball very well tonight,” KP head coach Marty Crowley said. Warriors advance to face Ponaganset in the tournament final at 6:45 on Thursday night.

Mansfield, 40 @ Duxbury, 36 – Final – Mansfield built a double-digit lead, up 33-21, through three quarters and held on in the fourth quarter to win the Duxbury Holiday Tournament final. Jen Peel and Ann Maher each had a team-high 14 points for the Hornets.

North Attleboro, 54 vs. Westwood, 46 – Final – Ashley Ahern led the Rocketeers with 17 points. North Attleboro will play host Hingham in the final of the holiday tournament on Friday at 7:30.

Sharon, 52 vs. Holliston, 47 – Final – Sophomore Emma Eberhardt paced Sharon with a team-high 19 points while junior Shira Stoller chipped in with 14 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks as the Eagles picked up their third win.

Stoughton, 53 vs. Wellesley, 70 – Final – Freshman Shyanne Trinh scored a team-high 20 points for the Black Knights while junior Val Whalen chipped in with 16 points and six blocks.

Hockey
Attleboro, 5 vs. Bellingham, 3 – Final

Canton, 2 vs. Coyle & Cassidy 1 – Final (OT) – Jackson Maffeo opened the scoring for the Bulldogs in the second period but Coyle answered back with only seconds left in the period. The game went to overtime where Bubba McNeice scored two minutes in to seal the victory for Canton in the Gormley Cup at Gallo Arena. The game counts as a 1-1 tie in the overall record.

Foxboro, 4 vs. Norton, 5 – Final

Franklin, 3 @ Mount St. Charles, 5 – Final

Mansfield, 1 vs. Norwood, 2 – Final – Matt Farragher scored a power play goal in the second period to tie the game but Norwood scored an early third period goal to get the win.

North Attleboro, 3 vs. North Smithfield 1 – Final – North Attleboro jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on its way to a win over North Smithfield. Junior Drew Wissler opened the scoring and senior Zach McGowan made it 2-0. North Smithfield cut into the lead late in the first period but Jason McNeany put Big Red ahead 3-1 on an assist from Will Yeomans in the second period.

Taunton, 1 @ Stoughton, 1 – Final – Stoughton took a 1-0 lead into the third period off a goal from Sean Doherty but Taunton’s Cam Carnes scored the equalizer in the final period.

Wrestling
Lowell Holiday Tournament (Canton, Foxboro, Franklin, Stoughton) – Foxboro’s Matt Kelley had the best finish in the tournament, coming in third at 132. Foxboro’s Brian Kelley (138) was fifth and Matt Mullally (160) was eighth overall. The Warriors finished in 12th overall as a team with 111.5 points. Franklin’s Jordan Carlucci (106) finished fifth and TJ Remillard (126) came in sixth as the Panthers finished 17th with 94.5 points. Canton was 34th with 53 points and Stoughton was 61st with 27 points.

Marshfield Tournament (Mansfield, North Attleboro, Oliver Ames, Sharon) – North Attleboro had a pair of winners en route to a fifth place finish as a team with 162.5 points. Nick Gould picked up a 6-3 win in the 152 final and Brad White earned a pin in the second period to win at 220. The Rocketeers also got placements from Brady Folan (106), who finished third, Mattuez Kudra (195) and John Kummer (285) each in seventh and Zach Gould (138) in eighth. Mansfield was 14th overall with five wrestlers coming in the top eight. Antonios Sevastos (106) came in second, Vinnie Holmes (170) came in fourth, George Glaropoulos (152) came in fifth and Will Stratton (126) and Jayden Curley (160) each came in seventh. Oliver Ames was 19th with 69 points, led by a second place finish by Liston Funai (132). Eric Berardi (152) and Billy Tat (170) each came in eighth. Sharon’s Yosef Ellis-Rech was fourth in the 126 bracket.
