Attleboro, 1 @ North Attleboro, 0 – Final – Harry Lancaster scored the lone goal of the match, heading home a set piece service from Zach White for Attleboro.

Franklin, 1 @ Canton, 1 – Final – Franklin’s Farley Asmath opened the scoring off an assist from Nitin Chaudhury to give the visitors a lead but Canton’s Ben Waterhouse tapped in Jake Verille’s free kick with 14 minutes to play in the first half to bring the Bulldogs level.

Taunton, 0 @ Foxboro, 4 – Final – Senior Anthony Barreira netted a brace and Shane VandenBoom and AJ Bubencik each scored once as Foxboro earned its first shutout win of the season and second consecutive shutout.

Oliver Ames, 1 @ Milford, 1 – Final – Milford’s Pedro Sampaio scored opening goal early in the second half off an assist by Andre Oliveira to put the Scarlet Hawks ahead. OA junior Jack Sheldon netted the tying goal halfway through the second half, scoring off a corner kick. Milford head coach Brian Edwards had high praise for his keeper, Danny Zwonik, saying “He played an incredible game in net for us.”

King Philip, 2 @ Stoughton, 0 – Final – The Warriors of King Philip netted a pair of first half goals and scored their ninth shutout of the season in the win. Senior Cam Mullins won possession at midfield and played a through ball to junior Tyler Mann, who finished at the far post in the 17th minute. KP doubled its lead when Jack Bush sent Nils van den Boogaard in and he finished at the far post in the 30th minute.

Girls Soccer
North Attleboro @ Attleboro – Postponed to TBD

Canton, 0 @ Franklin, 2 – Final – Halle Atkinson and Miranda Smith netted second half goals to lift the Panthers. Nadia Havens and Atkinson registered assists for Franklin.

Foxboro, 4 @ Taunton, 2 – Final – Mackenzie Fraser scored two goals and recorded an assist for the Warriors.

Milford, 1 @ Oliver Ames, 2 – Final – Kiana Lozzi scored the opener in the first half for the Tigers. After Milford tied the game in the second half on a goal from Maggie Boyle, Abby Reardon scored the game-winner for OA in the final minute.

Stoughton, 0 @ King Philip, 8 – Final – King Philip’s Avery Snead and Logan Greenberg each scored twice, Abby Baker and Chloe Layne each registered one goal and one assist, Maddie Smith and Rachel Hogan both netted a goal apiece and Emma Corcoran recorded three assists in the win.

Attleboro @ North Attleboro, 4:45

Franklin, 1 @ Canton, 3 – Final – Canton won the first two sets, lost the third but sealed the victory with a big win in the fourth set, 25-19, 25-15, 26-28, 25-12. Canton middles Casey Shea and Emma Murphy both had strong nights to lead the Bulldogs, putting down eights kills with just one error apiece, and combined for five blocks. Head coach Pat Cawley said Nicole Poole did a great job distributing the ball, finishing with 26 assists, 11 digs and three kills. Canton’s defense of Julia Panico, Maria Mackie, Erika Lum and Emily Lynch was strong throughout the night. Franklin’s Erin Skidmore had 13 kills, three aces and 10 digs, Maddie Kuzio finished with 34 digs, Lauren McGrath had 31 assists and Meaghan Maguire had six kills and a block for the Panthers.

Taunton, 3 @ Foxboro, 2 – Final – In a seesaw affair, Taunton won the first, third and fifth set to earn the win, 26-24, 20-25, 25-21, 17-25, 15-9. Taunton head coach Toby Chaperon said Emily Moor had a fantastic all-around game with 16 kills, 15 digs and six aces. Abby Waldron nine digs, eight kills and four aces and Kayli Fagan set up the offense with 31 assists.

Mansfield, 3 vs. Brockton, 0 – Final – Mansfield landed a sweep against the Boxers, 25-19, 25-15, 25-14. Jess Haradon had 18 digs and 15 service points for the Hornets while Jacey Anderson had 10 service points and Meg Hill added eight kills.

Oliver Ames, 3 @ Milford, 2 – Final – Oliver Ames won the first, third and then edged Milford in the fifth set to earn the win on the road, 25-21, 18-25, 25-22, 20-25, 16-14. “This game was hands-down the best game we’ve played all season and a great way to fight for the win and earn every point,” OA head coach Chelsea Correira said. Sadie Homer led OA with 16 digs, “dominating in the back row,” according to Correira. Bridget McCarthy had 31 assists and two aces, Kayla Raymond added11 kills, three blocks, two aces and Maya Fetcho had six kills and a block.

King Philip, 3 @ Stoughton, 1 – Final – King Philip picked up the road, 25-21, 23-25, 25-23, 25-16. Carly Adams led KP with 25 service points and 23 assists, Sydney Phillips added 13 kills and 17 service points, Amanda Loewen had 12 digs and 14 service points and Angela Vellante chipped in with 20 service points and four digs. Stoughton’s Val Whalen had a game-high 15 kills while Christina Gelin and Riley Bagley combined for over 60 digs for the Black Knights.

Attleboro, 1 @ Franklin, 1 – Final – Ahijah Joseph gave Attleboro the lead with an 18th minute goal, an advantage the Bombardiers took into the halftime break. Franklin senior Hatim Brahimi found the equalizer in the 69th minute to level the scoring.

Canton, 3 @ Foxboro, 2 – Final – Canton sophomore Paolo Ruggeri scored in the final minutes of the came to complete the Bulldogs’ comeback. Foxboro’s Anthony Barreira and Jeff Melo scored goals in the first half as the Warriors took a 2-0 lead into halftime. But Canton senior Ben Waterhouse cut into the lead with a goal in the 52nd minute and sophomore Paul Corcoran tied the game in the 55th minute. Ruggeri was able to convert with under two minutes to play for the game winner.

King Philip, 2 @ Mansfield, 0 – Final – Sophomore Tony Bozza netted his first career goal in the opening minutes of the contest off an assist from Thomas Lugten and Lugten doubled the lead before the halfway mark of the first half to lead King Philip. Bozza used a one time finish off a pass from Lugten to put KP up 1-0 in the 2nd minute. Lugten then took a flick from Colby Koch and tucked his chance into the net from inside the area. KP head coach Nick Gale said his back four of Jack Bush, Cam Mullins, Ryan Coulter and Larsen Keys had a strong defensive game in front of goalie Eli O’Neill, who had a strong game against Mansfield’s set pieces.

North Attleboro, 0 @ Milford, 2 – Final – Pedro Sampaio netted a pair of second half goals to lead the Scarlet Hawks to their second straight win. Sampaio converted a penalty kick to put Milford up 1-0 and then carried possession across the edge of the area before firing in his second of the game.

Taunton, 0 @ Oliver Ames, 2 – Final – Joe Cerqueira and Nathaniel Cardoza each scored in the first half for Oliver Ames. James Gillespie assisted on Cerqueira’s goal and Chris Lawrence set up Cardoza’s goal.

Stoughton, 2 @ Sharon, 4 – Final – Sharon cashed in on a pair of corner kicks to build a 2-0 lead at halftime and converted on a free kick for a 3-0 advantage early in the second half. Andrew Reyes Jones opened the scoring, converting a corner from Michael Baur. Jeffrey Gao doubled the lead, finishing off another corner from Baur. Ben Stamm headed home a free kick from Ian Camilli to make it 3-0. Stoughton responded with a pair of goals with sophomore Fabio Ponce De Leon finishing a lofted pass from Tyler Melo coming first and Jordan Asnes finishing a cross from Goddy Fombe to make it 3-2. Camilli iced the game with his second point of the game with a strike from just outside the area to cap the scoring.

Girls Soccer
Franklin, 3 @ Attleboro, 0 – Final – Miranda Smith scored twice and assisted on the third goal for the Panthers. Jess Kroushl added a goal and an assist and Emily Mastaj had an assist for Franklin.

Foxboro, 0 @ Canton, 2 – Final

Mansfield, 5 @ King Philip, 1 – Final – Emma Oldow scored once and had two assists, Allee Bezeau netted a pair of goals and Emma Goulet and Steph Kemp each scored once and had an assist in Mansfield’s win. Avery Snead scored for King Philip.

Milford, 1 @ North Attleboro, 1 – Final – Milford converted a corner kick to pick up a tie on the road at North Attleboro. Nicole Dahlgren scored off of Maddie Boyle’s corner for the Scarlet Hawks. Milford head coach Jay Mastaj praised the two-way play of Ashleigh Starks and Maggie Boyle.

Oliver Ames, 3 @ Taunton, 1 – Final – Anna Tempestoso, Kiana Lozzi and Abby Reardon were the goal scorers for OA and Zoe Chazon added two assists for the Tigers. Samantha Tichelaar scored for Taunton.

Sharon, 11 @ Stoughton, 1 – Final – Sharon’s Alex Rabb registered her third hat trick of the season to lead the Eagles while Ally Filipkowski, Jessie Tarnoff and Amanda Klayman each scored two goals apiece. Ally Steinberg and Maxine Gordon each scored once for Sharon.

Olivia Broyles had nine blocks and four kills for the Hornets while Chloe Peters added 20 service points and Jess Haradon and Jacey Anderson combined for 20 digs. Oliver Ames’ Bridget McCarthy had 27 assists and five aces and Maya Fetcho added 11 kills.

Milford, 3 @ Sharon, 2 – Final – Sharon junior Jess Allan led the Eagles’ offense with nine kills and Cori Jermyn added seven kills.

Sharon, 181 @ Stoughton, 192 – Final – Max Avratin was the match medalist, shooting a low-round of 44 to lead Sharon. Cam Doherty and Zach Gay led Stoughton, both shooting a round of 47.

Taunton, 191 @ Milford, 154 – Final – Three Milford golfers broke 40 on the day to pace the Scarlet Hawks to the win. Ryan Tomaso carded a low round of 35 while Anthony Arcudi shot 38 and Tylor Renaud carded a round of 39.

Canton, 153 @ North Attleboro, 149 – Final – Four different golfers shot under 40 for the Rocketeers to edge Canton in a key Davenport division showdown. Robbie Congdon shot a 36, David Colasanti shot a 37 and Dylan Kane and Tyler Sinacola both shot 38 in the win. Canton’s Matt Minichiello was the match medalist, carding a low round of 35.

CANTON, Mass. – In a game that featured aggressive pressing in the midfield and disciplined back lines that maintained their shapes and proved hard to break down, scoring chances were always going to be at a premium.

Canton took advantage of a set piece opportunity to take the lead in the first half, as Paolo Ruggeri flicked home a free kick for the lead, and the Bulldogs got a full stretch save from Abe Garber with eight minutes remaining to pull out a 1-0 victory on Saturday evening against Milford at World War II Veterans Memorial Field.

“I thought we played really, really well,” said Canton coach Danny Erickson. “Milford played a lot of guys at the back…they were very disciplined and were hard to break down…I thought goals were going to be hard to come by after 10-15 minutes and we were right.”

The Bulldogs had the game’s first chance in the opening two minutes but Jake Verille‘s shot from distance was deflected and easily held by Milford keeper Danny Zwonik. Five minutes later, Milford had its first shot on goal when Marcello Panno’s header from a corner was tipped over the bar by a back pedaling Garber.

In the ninth minute came the break through. Canton had started the game well and pushed the Hawks back, which led to a foul on the left side of the box. Griffin Roach served the ball into the box and it was side footed towards goal by Ruggeri. The ball hit the underside of the bar, landed and then was headed home by Ben Waterhouse, but the official said that the initial shot had crossed the line.

“We worked on restarts yesterday, so we’re really happy about that,” said Erickson.

The game settled into a midfield stalemate for the majority of the first 40 minutes. Milford absorbed the Canton pressure and kept the Bulldogs from getting the ball into dangerous areas. In the 25th minute, Verille sent in a corner that was met at the far post by Dillon Anderson but his shot was saved by Zwonik. Two minutes later Zwonik got down well to his left to keep a long free kick attempt by Verille from sneaking inside the post.

Milford had one great chance with three minutes to halftime. Garber’s mis-hit goal kick surprised his defender Matas Leveckis and allowed Mike Webber to cut in and intercept. The Milford forward pulled his shot just wide of the post.

The Hawks started to find more space in the second half with Pedro Sampaio, Tiago Carvalho, and Panno getting on the ball more often and being able to create. Milford also started to find success with diagonal balls towards the fullbacks that got its playmakers in one-on-one situations rather than the crowded midfield.

A long throw by Joey Madden in the 47th minute was headed on by Panno but Carvalho nodded his shot wide from the middle of the box. In the 69th minute, Panno again rose above the defense but his headed chance from Sampaio’s corner was easily held by Garber.

Canton’s two best chances to that point in the second half had both fallen to Roach but he had sent his shots narrowly past the post with Milford keeper Luke Capobianco at full stretch both times. In the 71st minute, the Bulldogs had another opportunity when left back John Agnitti’s long diagonal found Paul Corcoran on the edge of the box. After a touch to create room, Corcoran’s shot was saved by Capobianco.

According to first-year head coach Brian Edwards, Milford’s defensive effort was the perfect response to the six goals that the Hawks gave up to Stoughton on Tuesday.

“I have no complaints defensively,” Edwards said. “After the performance we had on Tuesday, this was a completely different team. I’m happy with the performance if not the result…These guys have great character, so I wasn’t surprised by the reaction.”

Milford would create its best chance of the game in the 72nd minute. A throw-in on the near sideline (at a spot that was disputed by the Canton bench) found Sampaio, who turned his defender and found room on his left foot at the edge of the box. He unleashed a shot that looked destined for the bottom corner until Garber dove to his left and got a strong hand to turn it around the post.

“Great, great save by the keeper,” said Edwards.

Erickson added, “They certainly could have had a goal at the end but Abe came up with a big save. Abe didn’t have to do anything until he needed to and that’s what you need from a goalkeeper.”

Canton was able to run out the clock and take home the two points, but the losing coach was pleased with what he saw from his team, particularly in the second half.

“I actually thought we played really well,” Edwards said. “We weren’t able to get the ball in the net but I thought we created a good number of chances. At first we had a hard time dealing with the physicality they brought but I thought we adjusted…we just weren’t able to finish today.”

Canton (2-2) will host Sharon on Monday night, while Milford (1-4) will try to get back on track with the visit of Foxboro.

Treichler’s Late Goal Gives Attleboro First Win

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – As the final minutes of Saturday evening’s game between Attleboro and Canton ticked down, it looked as though the teams were destined for a scoreless draw.

But with just under six minutes to play, Attleboro senior Tyler Treichler got on the end of a set piece service and used his head to tuck the ball on the inside of the post and give the Bombardiers a 1-0 win in both team’s first game of the season.

Senior Harry Lancaster and Treichler teamed up throughout the game to stifle the Bulldogs’ offense while Canton center backs Danny Hartnett and Matas Leveckis limited Attleboro’s chances.

As the game ticked into the 75th minute, the Bombardiers earned a free kick near the corner flag. Junior Zach White played it short, only to get it back immediately. He drove a cross to the back post and Treichler was able to jump up in a sea of players and get his head to the ball, putting it just inside the post, making it nearly impossible to stop.

“We’ve been sending the two guys from the back up for corners and set pieces because they can head the ball, so that paid off,” Attleboro head coach Peter Pereira said. “We have a good team and the kids are working hard, that’s what we we are. We’re young but we work hard.

“The freshmen are giving everything they have and that sets the tone for the other kids. We have a while to go though, this is most of the kids’ first ever game playing together because of the ages are so different. I was happy with the performance and of course the points are even more important.”

Each team had just once serious chance in the first half. Lancaster’s low free kick to the near post was deflected to freshman Michael Russo in the 8th minute, but his shot on frame went right at Canton goalie Abe Garber.

Canton nearly took the lead just seconds later off when Paul Corcoran took off down the right flank, centering a pass for Ben Waterhouse but Attleboro goalie Nick Hasenfus came off his line and just got in front.

The Bulldogs started off on the front foot in the second half, finding a chance in the 47th minute, Corcoran sent in a low cross to the near post, where Cole Duserick got a touch on but the ball spun just out of the reach for Waterhouse to get a clean shot and it slipped wide.

Attleboro had a chance midway through the second half when Devin Andre combined with Ahijah Joseph at the top of the area but Andre’s shot went over the bar.

Canton’s Jake Verille made a nice run in the 65th minute into the final third but his shot was saved by Hasenfus. Two minutes later, White played Connor Dunn wide and his cross was met at the far post by Nick Lawrence, bit his bid back across goal went wide. Lawrence’s shot three minutes later was stopped by Garber as well.

That led to Andre going for a 50/50 ball on the right sideline, earning a free kick just by the corner. That led to White’s service and Treichler’s winner.

“Attleboro played great, I thought they they had the territory in the first half. We actually had the possession in the first half but we kept the ball in our end so it didn’t do anything for us,” Canton head coach Danny Erickson said, also praising Attleboro’s defensive effort. “They were really dangerous, keeping the ball that first half. I thought we turned it around and had the ball down their end the whole second half, they had a couple glimpses and then they took advantage of a set piece and scored a really nice goal. I don’t think he was completely open, I thought we were on him but he scored a great goal. I thought we gave them a great fight in the second half though but it’s onto the next one.”

Attleboro’s defense was bolstered by Lancaster, who has made the switch from an attacking option to a center back for his senior year. It seemed anytime that Canton had something going in the final third, Lancaster was there to cause a problem.

“Harry is doing well for us. He was playing midfield but I felt like I needed someone back there,” Pereira said. “He’s got the speed, he’s got the experience. He’s covering for everyone back there. With Treichler next to him, he’s learning with Harry too. Then we rotate four sophomores in the wings and we’re hoping they’ll do the job.”

Attleboro boys soccer (1-0-0) will look to make it two in a row with a trip to Stoughton (0-1-0) on Tuesday. Canton (0-1-0) will be back in action on Friday when they travel to King Philip (1-0-0).

Canton

2015 Record: 3-10-4
2015 Finish: Missed playoffs

For the first time in a decade, the Bulldogs missed out on the postseason last year but with a large group of experienced players returning, the 2016 team is looking to start a new playoff streak. Canton graduated just two starters from last year’s team and looks to be in the mix for the Davenport division title this season.

Canton will look to its four captains for guidance with the quartet spread out nicely on the field. Junior Jake Verille and senior Ben Waterhouse will bring skills and versatility to the midfield. Senior Danny Hartnett is experienced and will anchor the back line while classmate Sammy Papakonstantino will be relied upon to be a catalyst up top for the Bulldogs.

“We think we have the technical ability this fall to play some good soccer,” head coach Danny Erickson said. “We were competitive last Fall but couldn’t figure out how to get the ball in the back of the net and get a result. I’m confident that we are ready to take the next step and see the positive results come this Fall.”

Erickson added there is a battle for the starting goalie spot right now between senior Sean Mitchell and junior Abe Garber.

Foxboro

2015 Record: 15-2-3

It will be far from easy for Foxboro to replace the 2015 HockomockSports.com Player of the Year Devante Teixeira (20 goals, 16 assists), who graduated, and two-time league all star Joe Morrison (eight goals, 15 assists), now playing full-time with his academy team. But senior Anthony Barreira (18 goals, 12 assists) is back for his fourth year on varsity and the Warriors get former league all star Jeff Melo back to bolster the back line, which will make the transition easier.

Barreira is set to be a top striker in the league and Melo showed during his sophomore year that he can be one of the best defenders in the area. AJ Bubencik’s conversion from a defender to a midfielder will be key for the Warriors this season as well. Sophomore Nic Beigel had a great rookie campaign and will be a key piece for Foxboro this season along with juniors Shawn McNamara and Ryan Kelley. Aaron Wentling and Bobby Harrison will fight for the starting spot in net this season.

“We are not the same team as last year but the quality is still here and my expectations are to win games,” head coach Joe Franchino said.

Milford

2015 Record: 4-13-1
2015 Finish: Missed playoffs

Milford had a strong debut when it joined the Hockomock League in 2013 but were able to capture just seven league wins over the past two years. Brian Edwards has taken over at the helm of the Scarlet Hawks and is looking for a bounce back season in his first year.

The Scarlet Hawks will be relying upon its three captains to make the turnaround. Senior Marcello Panno is one of the most versatile players in the league with Edwards referring to him as a ‘swiss army knife.’ Edwards expects Panno to play roles both offensively and defensively. Defensively, senior Danny Mendoza is going to be tasked with handling top strikers from around the league. Edwards credited Mendoza’s work rate and his ability to make those around him better. Junior Andre Oliveira will be a major part of Milford’s attack this season. Oliveira will be one to watch, especially on the counter attack.

“We expect to see a focus on technical skill and ball movement as opposed to direct play,” Edwards said. “This is an attack which will be geared towards moving the ball in tight spaces against high pressure.”

Edwards also noted the team will focus on a team defensive effort, with an effort to deny opponents space in the final third.

North Attleboro

After a rough couple of years, the North Attleboro Rocketeers are hoping a switch to the Davenport Division could be the perfect platform to launch a turnaround. With a good amount of players that saw either starting minutes or valuable time off of the bench back, the Rocketeers will look to ramp up their play, especially on the offensive side of the ball.

Juniors Noah Barney and Zach Matracia saw a lot of minutes as outside backs last year and will look to bring that experience back this year. Senior John Brennan will try to anchor the back line from the center of the pitch while the Rocketeers look to find the right fit in the middle to complete the defense. Junior Brendan Matracia will occupy the goalkeeper spot with a good amount of minutes played from his sophomore year under his belt.

“We have gone from being young and green to being a group of seasoned varsity players,” head coach Geoff Burgess said. “It should be a resurgence for the program.”

Offensively, senior captains Leo Charlebois and Conor Danahey will be two of the main options up top. Burgess noted that junior Josh Rodriguez had a strong summer and will be a playmaker this year. In the middle of the pitch, junior Gabe Pinhancos will be complemented by classmate Ryan Pasquel and sophomore Marcus Costa.

Sharon

2015 Record: 10-7-1
2015 Finish: Reached D2 South Second Round

Even though Sharon lost a strong group to graduation, the Eagles are relying on a new crop of seniors to lead them in 2016. The Eagles also expect to get contributions from juniors, sophomores and freshmen in different areas of the field.

Senior captains Ian Camilli and Shali Patel will lead from the heart of the field at center midfield while fellow captain Benjamin Stamm will be a viable attacking option. Sophomore Ethan Kantor will take over the starting job for Andrew Filipkowski, a 2015 HockomockSports.com Best XI selection that graduated. Shubojit Roy-Chowdhury will be the anchor of the back line as a center defender. Head coach Bryan Kelly is looking for breakout seasons from Oliver Hu, Jacob Tevin, Jeremy Cabral, Marques Benton Jr., Spencer Hall, Andrew Reyes-Jones and Michael Baur.

“[On top of our seniors and juniors] there will be several sophomores and freshman called up throughout the season who will only add to the strength of the team,” Kelly said.

Stoughton

2015 Record: 9-8-3
2015 Finish: Reached D2 South Second Round

After another successful campaign, the Black Knights are hoping to push their postseason streak to three straight years. Stoughton will face the challenge of graduating seven seniors, including some key pieces from each part of the field, but there the group of returning players should give the Black Knights plenty of optimism.

Stoughton has scored over 30 goals in back to back seasons (38 in 2014, 31 in 2015) and will look to make their offense a strong suit again this year. The Black Knights are returning three of their top four scorers, including sophomore Fabio Ponce De Leon (eight goals, two assists), Jordan Asnes (five goals, five assists) and Loubensky Lucas (five goals, one assist). Lucas has been finding the back of the net for three years and head coach Aaron Salter notes he’s had a strong preseason thus far.

“I felt last year we didn’t kill off enough games and left teams with life still in them,” Salter said. “This year we will be hoping to close out games much easier.”

Defensively, the Black Knights are hoping experience will help anchor the back line. Tyler Melo will be a factor in the midfield while Goddy Fombe and Noah Schulze both emerged as strong options on defense last season. Salter admitted there were players in new spots last year but now with a year under their belts, they have developed the awareness and look strong in the preseason.

Stoughton, 1 @ Foxboro, 6 – Final – Foxboro sophomore Joe Morrison scored once in the first half and then twice in the second half and also added an assist for the Warriors. Senior Devante Teixeira scored once and assisted on four goals while Hussein Kafel and Mike Moses each scored second half goals. Stoughton’s Jordan Asnes scored the Black Knights’ lone goal off an assist from Loubensky Lucas. 

Franklin, 4 @ Taunton, 1 – Final – David Stowell scored a pair of goals, Austin Kent scored once and had an assist and Farley Asmath netted Franklin’s other goal as the Panthers snapped a two-game skid.
Mansfield, 3 @ North Attleboro, 0 – Final – Senior Chris Elsner set up classmate Brad Eames for what turned into the game winner in the 26th minute. Less than 10 minutes later, junior Max Gurnon set up senior Charlie Rogers to double the Hornets’ lead. Sophomore Sean Lanzillo capped the scoring in the 54th minute off an assist from classmate Sam Hyland. Junior Evan Christo made his varsity debut in goal and made five saves for the shutout. 

Oliver Ames, 1 @ Sharon, 0 – Final – OA’s Chris Romero scored the lone goal of the game in the 38th minute. Andrew Fillipkowski made nine saves for the Eagles, five in the first half alone. OA goalie Jack Carroll made three saves, including a sliding block on Sonny Somdah when he was clean through with 12 minutes remaining.
Girls Soccer
King Philip, 2 @ Attleboro, 0 – Final – Maddie Smith smith scored twice in the second half for the Warriors, converted on a through ball in the 59th minute and then again on a corner kick in the 80th minute. Attleboro head coach Steve Santos said Paige Medeiros and Cassie Vivar both played a great game and goalie Madison Brown had a couple of big saves to keep the game level in the first half. 
Milford, 1 @ Canton, 2 – Final – Milford’s lone goal was scored by Kristen Franzini off an assist from Katie Brown. Milford head coach Jay Mastaj said midfielders Maggie Boyle and Francesca Shipperd both played well. 
Foxboro, 2 @ Stoughton, 0 – Final – Lily Sykes and Hailey Maling each scored once for the Warriors while Jalissa Allen picked up the win in goal. 
Taunton, 0 @ Franklin, 3 – Final – The game was scoreless into the final 20 minutes. Freshman Halle Atkinson broke the deadlock off an assist by Bailey Knous. Atkinson then assisted on a goal by Jess Kroushl. Alexis Stowell wrapped up the scoring off an assist from Victoria Stowell.
North Attleboro, 0 @ Mansfield, 2 – Final – Lindsay Dalton and Jackie Carchedi scored first half goals for the Hornets. Emily Gaumond recorded the clean sheet. 

Sharon, 0 @ Oliver Ames, 9 – Final – Oliver Ames junior Francesca Calabraro netted a first half hat trick and classmate Lauren Wright added a pair of goals in the opening half. Kiana Lozzi, Sam Bamford, Annabella Walsh and Abby Reardon each scored once for the Tigers.

Attleboro, 0 @ Taunton, 3 – Final – Taunton picked up a 25-11, 25-15, 25-12 win over Attleboro. Tatum Speicher led the Tigers with 30 assists, three kills and an ace, Emily Moor led Taunton with 11 kills while Amy Kistner added 10 kills and four aces.
Canton, 3 @ Oliver Ames, 0 – Final – Canton picked up its second straight win with a 25-22, 25-13, 25-15 win over OA. Elizabeth Hamilton had 12 kills, 10 digs and two aces and Sarah Reissfelder had nine kills. Head coach Pat Cawley said Olivia Devoe, Erika Lum and Kehla Minkin played great defense.

Foxboro, 0 @ Milford, 3 – Final – Milford picked up its second sweep in as many days with a 25-16, 25-17, 25-11 win. Jill Powers led the Scarlet Hawks with 12 kills, Kara Halpin added eight kills and Kayla Antonellis and Kelley Reichert each had seven kills. Lauren Zouranjian had 35 assists in the win. 
King Philip, 3 @ North Attleboro, 2 – Final – King Philip battled back from five points down in the fourth game (26-24) to force a fifth game, a set in which they dominated (15-1). King Philip won 17-25, 25-13, 16-25, 26-24, 15-1. In the fifth set, Gwen Uyrus had 13 straight service points, including six aces to give the Warriors the big boost. Emma Lopez had five aces and three kills, Josie Rowean finished with 20 kills and Molly Citarell had six digs for KP.
Sharon, 0 @ Stoughton, 3 – Final – Stoughton picked up its first sweep of the season with a 25-17, 25-22, 25-10 win over Sharon. Stoughton sophomore Val Whalen had five blocks, seven kills, five digs and six service points, Ariana Riske added 11 digs and 12 service points and Ava Siegel had 10 digs and 11 service points.

Attleboro, 2 @ King Philip, 2 – Final – Attleboro and King Philip went into halftime tied 1-1 and finished in a deadlock when the final whistle blew. Emily Houle scored in the first half for Attleboro before KP tied it up off a corner by Courtney Foley on an assist from Casie Curtin. Grace Mayer scored off a penalty stroke in the second half to put the Bombardiers back ahead but a goal by Caitlin Donahue, assisted by Liz Furfari, knotted the game again. 

Canton, 2 @ Milford, 2 – Final – Canton took a 1-0 lead into halftime but Milford battled back twice, scoring its first ever goals against the Bulldogs since joining the Hockomock League. Nicole Fokas tied things up off an assist from Jessica Palmer. Canton went up again but a goal from Shannon Cormier leveled things again.

Canton, 157 @ Stoughton, 179 – Final – Canton sophomore Jack Goyetch shot an even part 36 to lead the Bulldogs to their sixth straight win. Senior Griffin Jerrier carded a 38 and senior Steve Gorham shot a 41 for Canton. Stoughton’s Josh Roos shot a team-low 43 for the Black Knights. 
Mansfield, 171 @ Taunton, 170 – Final – Taunton edged Kelley-Rex rival Mansfield by a stroke. Mario Wilson shot a 39 and Justin Proto carded a 42 for the Tigers. 

Sharon, 229 @ Foxboro, 232 – Final – The match was tied at 182 through four cards and Sharon took the when their fifth score was a 47 compared to Foxboro’s 50.

Foxboro, 5 @ Attleboro, 3 – Final – Foxboro took a 3-1 lead into half before the Bombardiers came back to tie things up with just over 10 minutes to play on a goal from Zach Rodrigues. However, Foxboro’s Devante Teixeira scored his third and fourth goals inside the final 10 minutes to lift the Warriors. Anthony Barreira assisted on all four of Teixeira’s goals and scored a goal himself. 
Canton, 2 @ North Attleboro, 2 – Final – The Rocketeers rallied from a two goal deficit with a goal midway through the second half and then in the final seconds to secure a point. Canton senior Joey Basile put the Bulldogs up on an assist from sophomore Ben Waterhouse just over 10 minutes into the game and then freshman Griffin Roach netted his first career goal to make it 2-0 Canton. North replied just two minutes later behind a goal from Zach Matracia and then Gabe Pinhancos knotted the score at two in the final seconds on a free kick.

Oliver Ames, 2 @ Franklin, 0 – Final – OA sophomore Cameron Vella and senior Chris Romero scored second half goals to lift the Tigers. Max Bamford and Romero each had an assist in the game. Head coach John Barata said Keegan Nutt and Nathaniel Cardoza played great in the middle. Jack Carroll recorded his first career shutout for OA.
Sharon, 2 @ King Philip, 4 – Final – King Philip’s Tyler Mann opened the scoring on an assist from Clay Geuss and then added another goal to give the Warriors a 3-2 lead at the break. Will Weir had the other first half goal for KP on an assist from Cam Mullins. KP’s Paul Kelley scored the lone goal of the second half. 
Milford, 0 @ Mansfield, 1 – Final – Mansfield’s Jack Reilly scored the lone goal of the game for the Hornets to open the season with a win. Six minutes into the second half, Mansfield’s Brad Eames’ corner found Chris Elsner, who deflected it on to Reilly for the tap in. 
Stoughton, 1 @ Taunton, 1 – Final – Taunton’s Sean Crowley put home side up a goal in the 13th minute. Stoughton’s Will Peoples converted from the penalty spot for the Black Knights in the 40th minute to level the game.

Mansfield, 2 @ Milford, 0 – Final – Mansfield’s Jen Kemp scored a brace as the Hornets opened the season with a shutout win. Kemp headed home a corner in the first half and then chipped the keeper for the second goal. Milford coach Jay Mastaj said Nichole Dahlgren played well defensively and Emily Duquette made eight saves in net.

Taunton, 1 @ Stoughton, 0 – Final – Abby Small scored her first goal of the season and the Tigers picked up a season-opening win. Kayla Wentworth had eight saves for the shutout in net. Stoughton’s goalie Marissa Williams also made eight saves in goal.

Canton, 3 @ North Attleboro, 1 – Final – North Attleboro picked up a win 28-26 in the first set but the Bulldogs rallied to get care of business the next three sets (25-8, 25-15, 25-16). Elizabeth Hamilton slammed home 15 kills and had 14 digs, Rye Verille had seven kills and four blocks, Nicole Poole had 34 assists in her first start at setter and head coach Pat Cawley said Olivia Devoe had an “outstanding” debut at libero with 24 digs. 

Oliver Ames, 1 @ Franklin, 3 – Final – Franklin senior Hannah Chase had six aces and three kills, Aubrie Kutil had six kills, sophomore Meaghan Maguire collected four blocks and Dayna McCue had six digs and an ace. 
King Philip, 3 @ Sharon, 0 – Final – King Philip swept 25-17, 25-18, 25-30. Josie Rowean had 11 kills and a pair of aces, Gwen Uyrus had 10 kills and four aces and Carly Adams had 11 assists.

Stoughton, 186 @ Milford, 160 – Final – Anthony Arcudi had the best day for the Scarlet Hawks, shooting a 37. Ryan Tomaso shot a 38 and Zach Tammaro carded a 39 for Milford. 
Taunton, 160 @ Canton, 155 – Final – Senior Jim Jenkins carded a match-low 36 for the Bulldogs while sophomore Jack Goyetch shot a 39 for Canton. Taunton’s Ryan O’Berg and Mario Wilson each shot a 39 for the Tigers.
Sharon, 164 @ Oliver Ames, 148 – Final – OA’s Brady Allbritton shot a team-low 35 for the Tigers while Brian Lambert and Mark Bissonette each carded a 37. Sharon’s Max Avartin shot a round of 35 for the Eagles. 

Boys Soccer: 2015 Davenport Division Preview

Canton

2014 Record: 9-7-2
2014 Finish: Reached MIAA D2 South First Round
Coach: Danny Erickson
The Bulldogs punched a ticket to the postseason for the 9th straight year and 2014 and with a good crop of returning and experienced players, a 10th straight trip is in the cards. Seniors Pat Hession and Joey Basile both have a good amount of experience and were key contributors to last year’s squad.
Although the Bulldogs will have the fill the void left with Hockomock League MVP Damian Kozak graduated, coach Danny Erickson seems to always have his team playing at a high level. Junior Sam Papakonstantino emerged as a strong threat last year and sophomore Jake Verille had a breakout rookie season and could become a top target for the Bulldogs.
Erickson said he hopes to keep possession better in 2015 and aim to pressure high to force mistakes from opponents. Sophomore Ben Waterhouse is someone who would be a big player this season while freshmen Griffin Roach and Paul Corcoran could make an impact in their first season.

Foxboro

2014 Record: 15-5-1
2014 Finish: Reached MIAA D3 South Semifinal

With only two starters from last year’s Davenport Division winning team gone, the Warriors are in good position to repeat and make a deep playoff push.
Foxboro has a new coach in Joe Franchino, who made 162 appearances for the New England Revolution, but don’t expect a lot to change with the Warriors. The 2014 HockomockSports.com Underclassman of the Year Joe Morrison is back to control the midfield and has the chance of being the best player in the league this year.
“I’ve inherited a great squad and they have worked really hard so far,” Franchino said. “They are making it difficult for me to pick a starting squad.”
The entire back four is back with Jeff Melo and Rob Lowey anchoring the middle while two-time Hockomock League All Star Devante Teixeira and his speed and skill will make it very hard for opponents to handle both him and Morrison. Franchino expects that they will get everyone’s best effort this year but with so much returning talent and a couple new faces, the Warriors are in good shape.

Milford

2014 Record: 5-11-2
2014 Finish: Missed Playoffs

The Scarlet Hawks started off last season by going undefeated in the first four games but only earned two more wins the rest of the way. With a strong group of seniors set for this season, Milford will look to get back in the playoff picture.
Mike Da Silva returns for his fourth year patrolling Milford’s net and two-time captain Justin Borges, who is one of the more versatile players in the league, will be a player team’s will have to worry about coming forward from the midfield. On defense, senior Luis Goncalves is back to help and try limit the opportunities from opposing offenses.
Milford will also get Sttarley Flores back after missing the entire 2014 season with an injury while seniors Matt Fornaciari and John Martins and junior Marcelo Panno will all play vital roles for coach Jim Asam.

Oliver Ames

2014 Record: 13-6-2
2014 Finish: Reached MIAA D2 State Finals

After reaching the D2 State Finals in 2014, the Tigers have plenty of returning talent back for this season. Chris Romero is one of the more tenured players in the league and is also one of the most versatile while fellow captain senior Keegan Nutt showed just how skilled he was last season in his first year.
“We are hoping to get into the MIAA tourney and we expect every game to be an all out battle,” head coach John Barata said. “We hope to compete well and get better everyday.”
Another experienced player back this season is junior Thomas McCormick, who has seen varsity time since his freshman year, as well as seniors Max Bamford, Jared Mallers and Max Ahearn. Sophomores Nathaniel Cardoza, Cam Vella, Matt Campbell and Jack Sheldon all saw a good amount of time as freshmen, with Cardoza emerging as one of OA’s best players. Although Foxboro is the favorite for the Davenport, the Tigers will likely be in the mix right until the end.

Sharon

2014 Record: 7-8-4
2014 Finish: Reached MIAA D2 South Preliminary Round

After just two wins two years ago, the Eagles made it to the playoffs in coach Bryan Kelly’s first year in charge. With a good amount of returning talent, the Eagles will have a chance to compete for the Davenport title.
“This year we have a wealth of experience in all positions and returning players will be a major contributing factor,” head coach Bryan Kelly said. “We are a team that doesn’t have just one star but rather has 23 guys that will sub a lot and not lose skill in any position. This year will be an exciting year for Sharon soccer.”
The Eagles are hoping to improve their offense as they struggled to find consistency when it came to finding the back of the net. Senior captain Daniel Bender is back after missing all of last year and his presence in the center of the midfield could be a huge boost. Senior James Dunlea will also big a factor in the midfield and senior Sam Weidig will anchor the defense in the middle. HockomockSports.com Second Team goalie Andrew Filipkowski is back for his senior year while fellow varsity returnees Lucas Allaria and Mark Bloom will look to add some scoring punch. Kelly is hoping their speed will help give opponents fits while juniors Jake Teven, Ian Camilli and Shalin Patel are all new faces that could make a big impact.

Stoughton

2014 Record: 11-8-1
2014 Finish: Reached MIAA D2 South First Round

Over the past couple of seasons, the Black Knights have been headed in the right direction with the team making the playoffs last year for the first time in a decade. Aaron Salter takes over the program this year and will look to continue the push.
Salter will have a lot of experienced weapons back this season to continue the program’s upward trend. Goalie Kyle Silverman is back and Josh Mitchell, Will Peoples and Goddy Frombe will be key pieces in the middle of the field. All three have a lot of varsity minutes and their experience could be vital for Stoughton. Loubensky Lucas, who had an injury plagued sophomore year, will look to return back to the form he had during his freshman year (five goals). Another player to keep an eye on is Noah Schulze, who played a little bit of everything last year and could take on a much bigger role this year.
The Davenport is full of talent and might be one of the most competitive years since the split happened, but the Black Knights have enough talent that they won’t get lost in the mix.
