Foxboro, 1 @ Canton, 1 – Final – Click here for a photo gallery from this game. – Foxboro took the lead in the first half but Canton scored in the second half to split the points. PJ Frost played in Dylan Barreira, who finished on a tight angle to put the visitors ahead 1-0. Bulldogs senior Alejandro Correal, who played goalie for the majority of the game, tied the game with a terrific strike off the underside of the crossbar in the second half.

Milford, 7 @ Sharon, 2 – Final – Milford senior Pedro Araujo scored five goals as the Hawks cruised to a big win on the road. Araujo blocked a clearance in the opening minute and went in to score, finishing with four in the first half as Milford built a 4-1 lead by the break. Leo Coelho (three assists) and Lucas Da Silva (assist) each scored once while Joao Pedro Da Silva and Carlos Terrinha each recorded an assist in the win.

North Attleboro, 3 @ Stoughton, 0 – Final – North Attleboro scored twice in the first half and added a late insurance tally to pick up two points on the road at Stoughton. James Sales found Joey Coscarella on a through ball in the seventh minute and Coscarella finished to put the visitors up 1-0. Sales made it 2-0 in the 26th minute, heading in a corner kick from Dylan D’Ercole. Matt Mordini added the third goal in the 75th minute, heading in a cross from Coscarella. Kyle Briere made six saves to get the shutout for North while Andrew Tolfa and Alex Pfeffer had strong games in the midfield for the Rocketeers.

Oliver Ames, 3 @ Taunton, 0 – Final – Oliver Ames junior Colin Milliken scored once and had an assist to lead the Tigers to a win on the road over Taunton. Matthew Nikiciuk opened his account for the season while Kevin Louhis added a goal in the win. Keanu Lakay and Josh LaBrosse each recorded an assist while Drew Nickla notched his second shutout of the year.

Girls Soccer
Mansfield, 2 @ Attleboro, 0 – Final – Olivia Salisbury made three saves to secure the first clean sheet of her career and Mansfield got goals from Tarynn Smith and Kaylee Smith to earn its first win of the year. Bella Lennon and Kerrin Sears recorded the assists for the Hornets. Attleboro coach Steve Santos said his team played well in the first half and was unable to find transition opportunities and then the Hornets showed their tenacity to keep the Bombardiers off the board.

Foxboro, 6 @ Canton, 0 – Final – Foxboro exploded for four goals in the second half to notch a big win on the road over Canton. Jordyn Collins scored a hat trick to pace the offense while Kailee McCabe, Katelyn Mollica (assist) and Lizzy Davis each scored once for the Warriors. Kendra Wentling and Olivia Nicholson each had an assist in the win.

Sharon, 2 @ Milford, 3 – Final – Juliana France, Ashleigh Starks, and Isabella DeFronzo each scored to lead the Scarlet Hawks to a win at home over visiting Sharon.

Stoughton, 0 @ North Attleboro, 2 – Final – Regan Fein faced eight shots and three corners but came away with her second clean sheet of the fall, keeping the Rocketeers perfect on the young season. North got two goals in the second half. Abi Slaney scored the first, assisted by Lily Cameron, and Ari Rice opened her varsity account, assisted by Alex Moulson. Lydia Hershey, Jordan Sullivan, Taylor Ward and Colette Petit headlined the defensive effort for North and Olivia Wells was a constant two-way threat, according to North coach Bill Wallace.

Taunton, 0 @ Oliver Ames, 4 – Final – Oliver Ames sophomore Camryn O’Connor scored once and had two assists to lead the Tigers to a win at home over Taunton. Erin Holmberg, Allison Evin and Abby Hodges also scored in the win for Oliver Ames.

Stoughton, 182 @ Milford, 183 – Final – Stoughton sophomore Patrick Smith earned match medalist honors with a low round of 43 to help the Black Knights earn a win at Hopedale Country Club. Max Huminik added a round of 45 for the Black Knights. Ed Madden and Nick Wimette each shot 44 for Milford.

Attleboro, 182 @ Sharon, 183 – Final – Jack Handy and Brian Houle both shot 44 to help Attleboro edge Sharon by a stroke on the road. Senior Ben Wood added a 46 for the Bombardiers. Sharon’s Eric Carter was the match medalist with a low score of 43, Andrew Glaser added a 44, and Nathan Daley shot a 45 for the Eagles.

Canton, 157 @ Taunton, 202 – Final – Canton’s James O’Keeffe, Chris Lavoie, and Will Gefteas all carded rounds under 40 as Canton picked up a win over Taunton. O’Keeffe was the match medalist with a round of 38, Lavoie and Gefteas both shot 39, and Thomas Singleton chipped in with a round of 41.

Foxboro, 203 @ North Attleboro, 204 – Final (5 cards) – After being tied at 161 apiece through four cards, Foxboro prevailed with a one-stroke win on the fifth card. Noah Hicks led Foxboro with a team-low 39, carding six pars on the day. North Attleboro’s Jillian Barend was the match medalist with a low-round of 35, carding birdies on four, eight, and nine for the Rocketeers.

Mansfield, 146 @ King Philip, 153 – Final – Mansfield junior Ryan Dow started the day two over par but finished with an eagle, par, and back-to-back birdies to shoot a 32, earning match medalist honors. Jason See, who shot a 35 for the day, also had an eagle, a pair of pars, and a birdie in the last five holes. Nate Morreale added a 38 and Joseph Gormley carded a round of 41 for the Hornets.

Oliver Ames, 167 @ Franklin, 161 – Final – Franklin junior Jack Paterson earned medalist honors, carding a low round of 38 to lead the Panthers to a tight win over Oliver Ames. Brian Sandham added a 40 and Sean Connolly shot a 41 for the Panthers. Tate Hadges led Oliver Ames with a team-low round of 40.

Breanna Atwood, Senior – Franklin

Franklin has had a good run with goalkeepers and that is continuing with Breanna Atwood. The senior netminder played all 18 games for the Panthers last season and has emerged as the top shot stopper in the league. A HockomockSports.com Best XI performer last season, Atwood recorded nine clean sheets and helped Franklin finish the season with a league-low 10 goals allowed. Tall and athletic, Atwood dominates the penalty area, which will be important this year as the Panthers have an almost completely new back line, and she is capable of getting to shots that other goalies in the league don’t. With the inexperienced defense in front of her, Atwood could be busier this year, but the Panthers will be confident that if opponents do get scoring chances that they have a goalie to make the necessary stops.

Jordyn Collins, Junior – Foxboro

The Warriors were the top scoring team in the league last season and junior forward Jordyn Collins was one of the main reasons why. She had a breakout year, putting together her speed and athleticism with clever footwork and clinical finishing to score a team-high 17 goals and five assists. A physical forward with a deft touch, Collins was able to hold the ball up and bring in the Foxboro midfield and if the defenders got close she would roll them and break free into space. Her volleyed goal off a corner in the playoffs against Medfield was the perfect example of her growth as one of the premier strikers in the Hock. Foxboro is still a relatively young team, but coming off the program’s first league crown since 1993 and with Collins continuing to lead the line expectations are high for a second straight title and an even deeper tournament run.

Abigail Hodges, Senior – Oliver Ames

Defense has long been a strength for the Tigers and this season will be no different with an experienced back line coming back and senior Abigail Hodges will be the leader of that group. A versatile player, who can play in the back line or move forward to play in the center of the pitch, Hodges is strong and confident on the ball and can match up physically with the league’s top attackers. Her experience in different positions has developed her ability to read opposition’s attacks and cut things out before they get dangerous. OA has a young roster overall and Hodges will be one of the experienced players that the Tigers will count on to guide the team up the Kelley-Rex standings and to another state tournament appearance.

Chloe Layne, Senior – King Philip

King Philip senior Chloe Layne has been one of the league’s most dynamic attackers for the past three seasons and is one part of the Hock’s top attacking unit. The University of Hartford-commit and 2017 HockomockSports.com Underclassman of the Year has unmatched skills on the ball, dancing through defenders whether she is lined up as a forward or dropped back into the midfield. Defenses are forced to back off when she has the ball because if they get too close then she can pull off a move to leave them in her wake. Layne scored 20 goals last season and assisted on 13 others, despite being moved from the front line back into the center of the pitch to act as a playmaker. She was third in the league in scoring, just one point behind teammate Avery Snead. This year, KP comes into the season with sky-high expectations and trying to stop Layne in the final third, whether creating chances for herself or her teammates, will be a difficult task even for the experienced defenses in the Hockomock.

Kailee McCabe, Sophomore – Foxboro

Lily Sykes was the first player (in any sport) to be on the first team of this site’s end of season awards for all four years. When she graduated, Foxboro was left with a big hole in the midfield, but sophomore Kailee McCabe stepped in last fall and the Warriors didn’t miss a beat. The reigning HockomockSports.com Underclassman of the Year was a box-to-box threat, breaking up an opposing attack on one end and then driving forward to create an attack on the other. McCabe scored 12 goals and had five assists for the Davenport champions, showing off the physicality and the skill to control games in the Hockomock. Even though she was just a freshman, McCabe became the engine that spurred the Warriors to a first league title in 25 years. Her dominance in the center of the pitch opens up the field for her teammates and helped the Warriors have one of the top attacks in the league and enter the season as the favorites to make it two straight league titles.




Katie Miller, Sophomore – Mansfield

Mansfield comes into the season with 18 of the 24 players on its roster new to varsity and only one player with more than a single season of experience. The Hornets are going to rely on youth if they are going to win a fourth straight league title, but some of those younger players have already proven capable of playing at this level. Katie Miller had an impressive freshman campaign, trusted with marking some of the league’s top midfielders and proving to be a standout in an already loaded lineup. While she has the defensive skills to help cover the defense, Miller also has the skill on the ball to push the Hornets forward quickly and the ability to pick out the right pass to free a teammate. After a solid freshman season, Miller’s all-around development will be crucial to the Hornets continuing their run as one of the top programs in the league.

Olivia Rodman, Junior – Canton

Canton prides itself on a quick passing game and the ability to breakdown the opposition. Junior forward Olivia Rodman has been one of the keys to the Bulldogs’ success in the attack for the past two seasons. A forward who likes to drift out to the left wing, Rodman has impressive skill on the ball and close control when running at speed, which makes her a terror for fullbacks to have to try and mark. Able to cut inside on her right foot for a shot or take the ball down the wing to get off a cross to a teammate, particularly classmate Elisa Diletizia, Rodman has a number of ways of causing the defense problems. As a freshman, Rodman scored 14 goals assisted on seven others. While those numbers dipped a little last year, it shows the potential that she has to create scoring chances and she is poised for a bounce-back season to help the Bulldogs make a run at the Davenport title. Canton remains a relatively young roster, but Rodman now has the experience of two years facing the league’s top defenses and that could translate to a big season for the Providence College-commit.

Isabella Salviati, Junior – Attleboro

The Bombardiers have taken a big jump forward offensively in the past two years, going from single digits in goals scored to more than 20 in each of the last two seasons. The arrival of forward Isabella Salviati has certainly been part of that big leap in the attack. The junior scored 12 goals, half of the team’s overall total, and assisted on seven others, proving to be a vital component of everything that Attleboro did in the final third. Quick and unafraid of the physical play of league defenders, Salviati is capable of creating space for a shot or to pick out the cutting pass that will open up scoring chances for her teammates. Despite drawing most of the attention from opposing defenses, Salviati consistently put herself in position to score. As Attleboro continues to search for its first playoff appearance since making the move to the Hock, Salviati has developed into the top attacking option and the kind of offensive threat that will make the Bombardiers competitive with the league’s top teams and clear that state tournament hurdle.

Avery Snead, Senior – King Philip

A three-year standout, King Philip senior Avery Snead has been one of the league’s top players since the first moment she walked onto the pitch in Wrentham. The 2016 HockomockSports.com Underclassman of the Year and 2017 Player of the Year and reigning two-time MVP was dominant last season, scoring 20 goals and recording 14 assists (putting her one point in front of teammate Chloe Layne). She received All-New England honors for her season and the Providence College-commit looks ready for even more this fall. A towering figure on the pitch, Snead has one of the league’s most powerful and accurate shots and is just as much of a weapon in the air as with the ball at her feet. Snead has the quick feet to dribble around or through defenses and only needs a sliver of space to create a chance. She is also versatile, playing through the midfield or back in defense depending on the circumstances of the game and the opponent. The Warriors won the South title two seasons ago and this year’s group has the potential to match that accomplishment, thanks in part to having one of the league’s most dynamic talents leading the line.

Ashleigh Starks, Senior – Milford

Milford senior Ashleigh Starks is a player with all of the tools to succeed in the Hockomock and the versatility to succeed in multiple positions, which will be critical for the Hawks to push past being a team with potential and to challenge the top teams in the Davenport. Starks can play up top or drop back into the midfield and her combination with classmate Juliana France in the center of the pitch gives Milford back line protection and sparks counterattacks. She cuts an imposing figure in the midfield and is not afraid of mixing it up physically, making tackles and winning the ball back. Starks also showed a keen eye for a pass and the ability to find the little spaces to get the ball forward into the final third. Milford has been a team with promise and Starks is one of the players that second-year coach Lou Colabello will be hoping can take the Hawks to the next step and get them back in the playoff hunt.

2019 Davenport Girls Soccer Preview

Canton

2018 Record: 8-9-2
2018 Finish: Reached Div. 2 South Preliminary Round

The Bulldogs finished third in the Davenport division last season and made it back to the state tournament, despite carrying a relatively young roster. Now, a year later, Canton brings back a strong corps, especially in the attack, and will look to take steps forward to try and challenge for the league title.

The best form of defense may be the attack for the Bulldogs, who will pair juniors Olivia Rodman and Elisa Diletizia again in the forward line. The classmates are a dynamic pairing and critical to Canton scoring 52 goals last season, which was the fifth-best total in the league. Senior Morgan McCabe and sophomore Gabriella Herivaux add depth to the forward line.

In the midfield, sophomore Allie McCabe is coming off an impressive rookie season as a playmaker and will be the engine in the heart of the pitch. Sarah Collins will be tough to replace in the defense, but seniors Alexa Maffeo, Caroline Tourgee, and Kerstin Hansen are back. Sophomore Elyse Broderick is back to take over between the posts and will be the anchor of the defensive unit.

“I think the key for us this year will be consistency,” said Canton coach Kate Howarth. “Our girls are bought in and want to find ways to win! I think we will find ways to win some tough games and get better every single day! That’s always our goal. Every time we step out onto that field, improve and get better. If we do that, we will put together a great year.”

Foxboro

2018 Record: 15-2-3
2018 Finish: Reached Div. 2 South Quarterfinal

Last season, a young Warriors roster brought home the program’s first league title since 1993 and it could start a run of success for Foxboro, which graduated only four players from last year’s team that led the league in scoring and allowed less than a goal per game. Adding a year of experience could make this year’s team even more of a threat not only for a division crown but for a deep tourney run.

Youth was on display all over the pitch last season, particularly up front. Junior Jordyn Collins had a breakout season putting her speed together with clinical finishing to become one of the league’s most dangerous forwards. There is plenty of help for the forwards from the midfield, senior Lizzy Davis and junior Kailtyn Mollica are both dangerous on the wings, creating chances and the odd goals as well.

The lynchpin last year was a freshman. Sophomore Kailee McCabe, the reigning HockomockSports.com Underclassman of the Year, had a remarkable rookie season. She controlled the midfield and drove forward to add scoring punch. Senior midfielder Kendra Wentling also adds a layer of protection for the defense, which will miss the graduated Alex Stamatos but has experience in senior Yara Fawaz and junior goalie Morgan Sylvestre.

“I am so excited about this team and what we are capable of this season,” said Foxboro coach Katie Stalcup. “I know if we stay focused and work together we will do great things.”

Milford

2018 Record: 5-12-0
2018 Finish: Missed Playoffs
Coach: Lou Colabello
This is the second season in charge for Milford coach Lou Colabello and he is hopeful that his team will build a comfort level with his expectations and systems to try and get the Hawks into the state tournament picture and push up the Davenport division standings. With a strong core of returning players, many with two or three years of experience on varsity, Milford has the opportunity to make a leap this fall.

The midfield will be a strength for the Hawks with seniors Juliana France and Ashleigh Starks are capable of breaking up opposition attacks and turning those quickly into attacks. Freshman Daniella Atheron will jump right into the attack and is expected to contribute goals this season. Defensively, the Hawks have experience in the form of seniors Maddie Boyle and Annie Flanagan and can count on solid play from both goalies, senior Olivia Marshall, and junior Carly Ferreira.

“We are really excited about our opportunities this year,” Colabello said. “With a heavy nucleus returning on defense and in the midfield, we hope to improve offensively. With a good mixture of experience and youth, I feel that we will make a vast improvement from last year.”




North Attleboro

2018 Record: 12-3-4
2018 Finish: Reached Div. 1 South First Round
Coach: Bill Wallace
North Attleboro is entering a transition season after graduating 14 seniors, including nine starters, from last year’s Davenport division runners-up. The Rocketeers will especially have to cope with the loss of leading scorer, and 2018 HockomockSports.com Player of the Year Ashlyn Gaulin, but there is hope that the new faces will be able to step in and rise to the challenge this fall.

The attack looks very different this season with junior Tess Collins, who is battling a preseason injury, taking on the responsibility of leading the line along with Steph McKenna. There have been promising signs from that duo during the preseason. Midfield is more experienced for North this year, with seniors Alex Moulson, Abi Slaney, and Lily Cameron back from last year, while Olivia Wills and Abby Noreck are making the jump from JV. The defense is mostly new, but senior Lydia Hershey is back and will offer much-needed leadership, while senior Regan Fein has the starting job in net.

“Right now we have six players who have been unable to practice preseason with injuries,” said North Attleboro coach Bill Wallace. “Once we get everyone healthy we should iron out some assignments and figure out our rotations.”

Sharon

2018 Record: 2-15-1
2018 Finish: Missed Playoffs
Coach: Catherine Sullivan
Second-year head coach Catherine Sullivan will have a lot of new faces to work with this season after graduating 11 seniors from last year’s roster and she is hoping that the Eagles can use an experienced midfield to create more scoring opportunities and continue to improve over the course of the season.

The midfield combines technically-sound players with energy and speed. Seniors Marika Fillion sets the tone with her work rate and senior Bella Berger is one of the team’s top playmakers. Junior Amelia Scappaticci adds skill to the team’s passing game, while freshman Olivia Soby is expected to provide an attacking spark in the middle of the pitch. Up front, junior Emily Griffin will try to use her speed to create chances. In the back, junior goalie Cass Barbera got a lot of experience between the pipes last season and she will count on classmate Molly McAlevey to hold things down in front of her.

Sullivan said, “I’m excited about the mix of strong returning players and new talent stepping in this season. It’s a great group of kids who are dedicated to improving our style and speed of play, and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together.”

Stoughton

2018 Record: 0-17-1
2018 Finish: Missed Playoffs
Coach: Tara Daniels
It has been a decent preseason for the Black Knights and head coach Tara Daniels hopes that they carry that over once things kick off for real. Stoughton has been building cohesion for the last several seasons and Daniels believes that there is the right mix of upperclassmen and newcomers to make the Black Knights a competitive team this fall.

Senior Nicole Weir has found a spot in the back line and will provide the vocal leadership that the defense needs. Senior Brianna Buckley has won the starting job in goal this year after earning time between the posts last season. Junior Mackenzie Manning is the key to the Stoughton midfield, having led the team in points in each of her first two seasons on varsity and continuing to be the team’s primary playmaker. Freshman Shayla Ford will step into the attack this season and there is hope that she can make an instant impact with her speed and finishing ability. One of the most important developments of the preseason is the growing understanding between Manning and Ford going forward.

“This year we have a strong core of returning upperclassmen that have worked the past few years to help shape and strengthen this overall program, with the level of play I am seeing from this group of upperclassmen and the freshman class, it is going to be an extremely competitive season for the Knights,” said Daniels.

2018 Davenport Girls Soccer Preview

Canton

2017 Record: 10-6-2
2017 Finish: Reached Div. 2 South First Round.
Coach: Kate Howarth

Canton has been on the cusp of getting back to the top of the Davenport division in recent seasons and on their day the Bulldogs can be very difficult to play against. As one of the favorites for the league title this fall, consistency will be the biggest challenge for Canton as it tries to unseat North Attleboro at the top of the Davenport standings.

To get the attack in gear, Canton will be turning again to its youth. The Bulldogs will look to sophomores Olivia Rodman and Elisa Diletizia to run at opposing defenses and continue developing a partnership that was one of the most potent in the league last fall. Senior defender Sarah Collins will be the leader of the Canton defense, which will look to improve on the 34 goals allowed from last season. Junior Morgan McCabe will be stepping into a larger role this season, with her versatility as a forward or midfielder, and senior Julia Hamilton adds tenacity in the center of the pitch.

“I think this is going to be an exciting year for us, with strong players returning and some exciting new talent stepping in,” said Canton coach Kate Howarth. “Our goal as a group is to push passed being a really good team and become the great team we know we can be. The Hock is such a strong league and every team pushes each other to become better.”

Foxboro

2017 Record: 10-9-0
2017 Finish: Reached Div. 2 South First Round.

Last year was a transition season for Foxboro under first-year head coach Katie Stalcup, as a group of talented young players made their debuts at the varsity level. The Warriors improved over the course of the season, made the playoffs, and now with a year of experience for a young squad there is a lot of buzz about Foxboro this fall.

The graduation of Lily Sykes, who was one of the league’s top players for all four years of her career, leaves big shoes to fill, but Foxboro has a number of players with potential to make up some of her production. Senior Mackenzi Fraser will be the main striker for Foxboro this year but sophomore Jordyn Collins will add speed on the wing and freshman Kaitryn Franchino will contribute up top as well. Junior Kendra Wentling returns in the midfield and freshman Kailee McCabe is a player to watch in the center of the pitch. Defensively, Foxboro has a lot of experience in senior Alex Stamatos, who will be joined in the back line by junior Yara Fawaz. Sophomore Morgan Sylvestre will be in net again this fall.

Stalcup praised the team’s tenacity and speed. She added, “I am very excited about this season. Even though we are still a young team, I think we will do very well. We have a team full of hard workers and great attitudes.”

Milford

2017 Record: 6-10-2
2017 Finish: Missed Playoffs.
Coach: Lou Colabello

For the past several seasons, Milford has been on the verge of getting back to the playoffs and now new coach Lou Colabello, who formerly coached at Douglas, will look to push the Hawks up the league standings with a number of experienced players in key positions.

The midfield will be patrolled by seniors Siena Pierce and Cassie Probert and junior playmaker Juliana France, who was named a league all-star as a sophomore and demonstrated the ability to cover a lot of ground in the middle of the pitch. The Hawks scored only 24 goals last season, so the attacking unit will be hoping to step it up this year, including senior Hannah Martin and junior Ashleigh Starks. The defense also has plenty of experience with junior Olivia Marshall back in goal and her classmates Maddie Boyle and Annie Flanagan in front of her to keep things organized at the back.

Colabello said, “We should have a solid midfield and many other players who can play different positions,and we expect big things from our returning goalkeeper. I feel this team is capable of competing with some of the elite teams in the league. There work ethics and attitude have been outstanding,thus I expect it will be a rewarding season and hopefully a playoff berth.”

North Attleboro

2017 Record: 14-3-3
2017 Finish: Reached Div. 1 South Quarterfinal.

North Attleboro will need a number of players to step into bigger roles this season, if the Rocketeers are going to make it three league titles in a row. North graduated 14 seniors and eight starters from last year’s team, but there are a number of familiar names and big contributors who are back and aiming for a three-peat.

The Rocketeers scored 60 goals last year and senior Ashlyn Gaulin contributed on 27 of those (17 goals and 10 assists). She will be the focal point of the attack this season, after the graduation of 100-point scorer Haley Guertin, and her sister Emma will try to provide the assists from the midfield. Seniors Kayla Pasquel and Haley Ferris will add to the experience in the center of the pitch for North and classmates Morgan Silver, Liz Smahi, Lexi Sinacola, and Lauren Pezzi will add depth in the midfield and defense. Seniors Sam Hawkins and Brieann Westcott will be at heart of the defensive unit with classmate Emma Noreck in goal.

North coach Bill Wallace said that sophomores Lydia Santos and Tess Collins will be contributors this season in midfield and attack. He added, “This group is a pleasure to work with, they want to work hard and get better.”

Sharon

2017 Record: 3-13-2

Coach: Catherine Sullivan

Sharon alum Catherine Sullivan takes over the program this season, as the Eagles look to rebuild and work towards a return to the state tournament. With the graduation of Ali Filipkowski, Sharon lost a lot of firepower but Sullivan is excited about the potential and the growth of the team during the preseason.

One of the key returning players is senior goalie Lydia Chase, who is a fearless shot stopper and her distribution will be important for the Eagles’ transition game. In front of Chase, senior Rose Wald is back in the heart of the defense and will partner with sophomore Molly McAlevey, who is a newcomer to the varsity but already showing a lot of composure on the ball. The midfield engine is senior Maxine Gordon, who will drive the Eagles forward, and junior Bella Berger will add playmaking and vision in the center of the pitch. Senior Bridget McManus will be the main forward and she will be expected to not only provide goals but also set up her teammates and get others involved in the attack.

“As a Sharon graduate, I’m really excited about the opportunity to once again represent the maroon and gold,” said Sullivan. “I think this team has a lot of talent and athleticism, and we will be striving to create a cohesive group that can consistently compete at a higher level.”

Stoughton

2017 Record: 0-15-3
2017 Finish: Missed Playoffs.
Coach: Tara Daniels

Although Stoughton was unable to pick up an elusive league win last season, Black Knights coach Tara Daniels felt that there was progress from the team, particularly in attack. A group of speedy, young attackers made Stoughton a more dangerous team and that experience has Daniels hopeful for even more in 2018.

Speed on the edges is going to be a key strength for the Black Knights this season led by senior outside back Cintia Khouzami and sophomore Nikki Anderson, who has gained a lot of confidence after playing a lot of minutes as a freshman. In the heart of the defense, senior Corina Kavanagh will be the leader of the group, ensuring everyone is organized. Sophomore Mackenzie Manning is another player who grew a lot over the course of her rookie season and will again be the primary playmaker for the Black Knights and a key to keeping possession. Senior Gabriela Diaz played a lot at the back last season, but this year her speed will be utilized up front to create even more opportunities.

Daniels said, “Our strength this year is our speed; our team has many players that excel on the track in the off-season. Last year we made big strides offensively and this year we plan on using the speed of many players to help us continue the offensive push we need.”

CANTON, Mass. – Canton had a chance to cut North Attleboro’s lead in the Davenport division to just a single point last week, but a loss to the Rocketeers on Friday opened that lead back up to five points and made each of the remaining league games a must win if the Bulldogs were going to keep up the race for a title.

On Monday night, the Bulldogs bounced back with a strong overall performance in a 3-0 win against Milford, sparked by a pair of unassisted goals from freshman phenom Olivia Rodman and a composed defensive effort.

Milford started the game well, combining well in the midfield to create opportunities in the final third. Sophomores Ashleigh Starks, Juliana France, and Annie Flanagan passed their way through the Canton midfield in the opening few minutes and Maggie Boyle and Hannah Martin each forced saves out of Canton keeper Briana Murphy.

“They connect passes really well,” said Canton assistant coach Sarah Handman of Milford. “I think we weren’t winning the 50-50 balls in the first 15 minutes and from then on that’s what made the difference.

The Hawks only struggle was finding the right pass to turn half chances into goals. Milford coach Jay Mastaj said, “That’s been our struggle all season, we’re playing with everybody but then the ball gets into the final third and we’re missing that little extra. We had our chances.”

The Bulldogs started to get a foothold in the game and in the 19th minute Rodman changed the momentum completely. The freshman ran onto a ball down the far touchline and cut infield onto her right foot before unleashing a rocket just under the bar and out of the reach of freshman keeper Carly Ferreira.

The goal turned the game on its head and the confidence started flowing for the hosts, who took control. Three minutes after the goal, Riley Duserick saw a 25-yard free kick smack off the crossbar and out and then right back Leianna Brune intercepted a pass on the right and sent a perfect early cross to an unmarked Rodman on the edge of the six, but the shot went over the bar.

“That’s where we start,” said Handman. “We work on building on the outside from the back.” In addition to Brune down the right side, central defender Sarah Connolly and left back Sarah Collins frequently stepped forward in possession and created space for the midfielders and forwards to take advantage.

Milford’s best chance of the game arrived in the 25th minute when sophomore Madeline Boyle lined up a 35-yard free kick and forced a stretching save out of Murphy, who managed to catch the ball just under the bar.

Madeline Boyle showed off her defensive ability a few minutes later when she reacted first to a low cross from the left to deny Lilah Sullivan a chance at the back post and then Rachel LeBlanc stepped just in front of Rodman to deny a goal scoring opportunity.

The chances kept coming for Canton with freshman Elisa Diletizia showing her strength to shoulder aside her defender and run onto a through ball from Juliana Agnitti before sending in a hard cross that Rodman just missed getting a foot on.

Diletizia had chances to extend the lead either side of halftime but sent both shots wide. Sullivan had another shot when Rodman’s run deflected off a defender’s leg and fell to the senior inside the box but Ferreira came up with one of her seven saves (six in the second half alone).

“The defense has been playing great all year,” said Mastaj. “Carly is a freshman goalie and being a freshman and stepping up to varsity isn’t easy and I think she’s been good back there.”

In the 54th minute, Rodman sealed the win for the Bulldogs. Diletizia sent a through ball over the top and Rodman got fortunate as she raced to the ball with Ferreira, as the ball deflected off her leg and rolled the ball past the keeper. Rodman hustled to the end line to keep the play alive and was able to cut the ball back towards the goal from an acute angle and, with the help of a defender’s foot, into the net.

Canton nearly added a third in the 74th minute but Brianna Braza cleared a Morgan McCabe shot off the line at the near post and then got up to block a shot from Lauren Fitzpatrick as well. The third did finally arrive with the final kick of the game, as McCabe finished a breakaway with a well-taken shot on the run.

Handman said, “Our goalkeeper only had to make two or three saves in the second half and I think we could have scored three or four goals with our runs up top. We had really good chances.”

Canton (7-4-2) is three points behind league leader North Attleboro with three league games remaining. The Bulldogs will try to stay in the title race on Thursday when they travel to Sharon. Milford (4-8-2) needs eight points from its remaining four games to get into the state tournament and will start its closing stretch with a trip to Foxboro on Thursday.

Shane VandenBoom, Nic Biegel, and Matt Rongione each scored to give the Warriors a 3-0 lead. VandenBoom converted a penalty kick in the second half for the final tally. VandenBoom also had an assist, as did keeper Bobby Harrison.

Oliver Ames, 4 @ Franklin, 1 – Final – Matt Alvarado scored his first of two goals in the first half and Oliver Ames added three more in the second half to grab two points on the road. Alvarado’s goal, assisted by Nathaniel Cardoza, gave the visitor’s a 1-0 lead at the break. Michael Nikiciuk put OA up 2-0 before the Panthers cut the deficit in half at 2-1. Alvardo and James Gillespie added goals to give the Tigers insurance. Cardoza finished with three assists while Brandin Osborne had one.

Mansfield, 4 @ Taunton, 0 – Final – Mansfield scored three goals in the second half to turn a close game into a big win on the road. Cullin Anastasia opened the scoring on a Luke Savoie corner in the 34th minute to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead at the break. Sam Hyland converted off another Savoie corner in the 58th minute to make it 2-0. Four minutes later, Anastasia grabbed his second on a penalty kick. Jackson Murphy capped the scoring in the 70th minute on an assist from Colin Caridi. Nick Ferraz made three saves for his fourth shutout of the season.

Milford, 2 @ Stoughton, 0 – Final – Milford scored once in each half to pick up two points on the road at Stoughton. Sophomore Walisson de Oliveira kept his hot streak going, opening the scoring in the first half on a volley on a feed from Joey Madden. Anthony Salvadore added an unassisted tally in the second half for the Scarlet Hawks. MHS head coach Brian Edwards said freshman Leo Coelho and sophomore Bryan Traya both played great in the midfield.

Girls Soccer
Attleboro, 1 @ King Philip, 6 – Final – The Warriors got a combined five goals and six assists from sophomores Avery Snead and Chloe Layne to stay in a tie at the top of the Kelley-Rex standings. Makayla Griffin opened the scoring in the second minute off a Layne assist and then Layne added her first 14 minutes later on a Snead assist. Four minutes later, Layne set up Snead for a third goal. Julia Hayes scored off a 20-yard free kick for Attleboro’s lone goal, but KP added three in the second half. Layne scored on a Snead assist five minutes after the break and then the same combo added another four minutes later. In the 58th minute, Snead added an unassisted goal to wrap up the scoring.

Canton, 0 @ North Attleboro, 4 – Final – North Attleboro set the tone early, scoring the opener less than three minutes into the game. Big Red then added one late in the first half and two more in the final five minutes of the game. Kayla Pasquel netted the opener on an assist from Aine Mendonca in the third minute. Haley Guertin, assisted by Leah Jette, made it 2-0 with just two minutes to play in the first half. Emma Gaulin made it 3-0 in favor of Big Red with four minutes left in the game off an assist from Ashlyn Gaulin and then Guertin finished the scoring on a feed from Haley Ferrin with just a minute to play. Emma Noreck earned the shutout in net – “with a smothering defense in front of her,” said NAHS head coach Bill Wallace.

Foxboro, 6 @ Sharon, 0 – Final – Foxboro took a 2-0 lead into halftime and broke the game open with four goals in the second half. Mackenzie Fraser netted a pair of goals for the Warriors while Lily Sykes, Shaina Abbott, Katelyn Mollica and Yara Fawaz each scored once. “We played with a lot of energy and passion today,” noted Foxboro head coach Katie Stalcup.

Franklin, 1 @ Oliver Ames, 2 – Final – Jackie Mills scored a last-minute goal, her second of the game, to secure a dramatic two points for the Tigers. Franklin had a chance from the penalty spot in the second half, but OA defender Maggie Ault stepped in between the pipes (starting goalie Regan Benton was forced to the bench with a yellow card) and made the save. Anabella Walsh and Abby Reardon had assists for the Tigers.

Taunton, 0 @ Mansfield, 4 – Final – The Hornets stayed in a first-place tie atop the Kelley-Rex behind a Stephanie Kemp brace. Cassidy McMahon added a goal and two assists and Emily Vigeant scored one for the Hornets.

Stoughton, 1 @ Milford, 5 – Final – Milford senior Leeanne Kibbee and Ashleigh Starks each scored a pair of goals as Milford cruised to a win at home. Senior Maggie Boyle also found the back of the net while freshman goalie Carly Ferreira notched her first career win. Mia Greene had the goal for the Black Knights.

King Philip, 3 @ Attleboro, 1 – Final – King Philip bounced back from an opening set loss to earn a win on the road, beating Attleboro 19-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-9. Sydney Phillips led the offense with 11 kills, Michaela Palumbo had five kills with five service points, including four aces and Rachael Veillieux had 18 service points, including eight aces. Kat Kmetz added 10 service points and five kills and Grace Ely chipped in with five kills.

North Attleboro, 3 @ Canton, 2 – Final – Despite falling behind 2-0, North Attleboro rallied with three straight wins to pick up a big division win on the road (20-25, 22-25, 25-15, 25-8, 15-8). Amelia Murphy led the offense with 22 kills and four blocks while classmate Kezia De La Cruz had 15 kills and four aces. Leah Marceau put the offense in motion with 28 assists. For Canton, Nicole Brown had 20 assists, 11 digs, and four kills, Hannah Jerrier had 10 kills, and Megan McDonough had 15 digs and a pair of aces.

Oliver Ames, 0 @ Franklin, 3 – Final – Franklin junior Lauren McGrath spread the ball around in the Panthers sweep of the Tigers, recording 29 assists as well as three kills and two aces. Canton, 170 @ Sharon, 176 – Final – Canton’s Thomas Singleton and Sharon’s Corey Carter shared match medalist honors, each carding a round of 40 but the Bulldogs came away with a close win. Joey Vaughan shot a 41 whole Chris Lavoie added a round of 44 in the win. Matt Grosser shot a round of 44 for the Eagles.

Franklin, 168 vs. Medway, 170 – Final

Oliver Ames, 145 @ King Philip, 159 – Final – Oliver Ames seniors Ryan McGarry and Mark Bissonette earned co-medalist honors, each carding a low-round of 35 to lead the Tigers to their 12th win of the season. Nolan Donze shot a 37 and Matt Kelley added a round of 38 in the win.

Taunton, 100 @ New Bedford, 73 – Final (Stableford) – Taunton picked up a win on the road, beating New Bedford in a match decided by Stableford points system. Jack Patneaude led the way with a 42 for the Tigers while Spencer Andrews shot a 43 and Jack Giebel carded a 44.

Stoughton, 2 @ Canton, 7 – Final – Freshman Olivia Rodman scored a hat trick and recorded an assist for the Bulldogs to keep Canton in a tie for second place in the Davenport. Fellow freshman Elisa Diletzia added a brace for Canton. Sarah Collins and Morgan McCabe also scored in the win. Chinazo Odunze scored the first for the Black Knights off a Mackenzie Manning assist and Manning scored the second from the penalty spot.

North Attleboro, 4 @ Foxboro, 1 – Final – Ashlyn Gaulin had a hat trick for the Davenport leaders and Haley Ferrin added the fourth. Haley Guertin had a pair of assists, while Rachel Labonte and Kayla Pasquel each added one. According to North coach Bill Wallace, Emma Noreck led a “strong defensive effort” and he noted the solid play of Emily Chiasson, Lauren Dow, Sam Hawkins and Julia Tolfa. Lizzy Davis had the lone goal for the Warriors and Foxboro coach Katie Stalcup said that Alex Stamatos had a “great game” in the Foxboro defense.

King Philip, 4 @ Franklin, 2 – Final – King Philip scored four times in the opening 20 minutes of the game and held on after Franklin scored two to halve the deficit before the break. Avery Snead scored twice and assisted on another, while Chloe Layne added a goal and an assist. Emma Corcoran had an assist and Ally Stanton added the fourth goal for the Warriors.

Mansfield, 2 @ Oliver Ames, 1 – Final – Emily Vigeant scored a penalty kick that turned out to be the game-winner for the Hornets. Stephanie Kemp had the other goal for Mansfield.

Milford, 3 @ Sharon, 0 – Final – Juliana France scored a pair of goals and Ashleigh Starks had one for the Hawks to end the team’s three-game winless streak and move Milford within a point of second place in the Davenport. Sharon coach Brad Furnival said that his team had its fair share of chances, including a Sabrina Robbins free kick that struck the bar, but that the Eagles “weren’t clinical enough. He added that the second Milford goal was “fantastic,” a 25-yard half-volley into the top corner.

Taunto, 3 @ Attleboro, 1 – Final

Canton, 2 @ Stoughton, 1 – Final – Canton’s Maggie Malloy and Kaitlyn Goyetch each found the back of the net as the Bulldogs held off Stoughton in a tight affair. Allie Howe scored Stoughton’s lone goal of the game.

Oliver Ames, 3 @ Mansfield, 3 – Final – Oliver Ames erased a pair of one-goal deficits in the second half to earn a draw on the road. The Tigers took the lead behind a goal from Hannah Stryke, assisted by Kayla Lozzi, but Mansfield stormed back with goals from Ann Maher (unassisted) and Brooke Downey (from Heather D’Ambra) to take a 2-1 lead at the break. Lozzi tied the game before D’Ambra put the Hornets back up on a feed from Emily Ierardo. Stryke netted her second of the game, on an assist from Maggie Woods, to tie the game. OA goalie Caitlin Grant made 11 saves in net.

Sharon, 0 @ Milford, 9 – Final – Shannon Cormier netted four goals to lead the Scarlet Hawks to a big win over visiting Sharon. Danielle Fokas added three goals and Colby Bowers netted her first career goal in the win.

Nicole Brown paced Canton with 20 assists and four kills, Taylor Harris had nine kills and Megan McDonough played great defense with 13 digs and a pair of aces.

Foxboro, 0 @ North Attleboro, 3 – Final – North Attleboro got stronger as the match went on, notching a 25-17, 25-12, 25-6 sweep against visiting Foxboro. Tori Melanson had a strong day at both the net (seven kills) and serving (five aces) while Amelia Murphy finished with eight kills. Kezia De La Cruz had her best serving performance of the year, finishing with nine aces to go along with five kills.

Franklin, 1 @ King Philip. 3 – Final – It was a strong team performance for King Philip, picking up a 25-17, 25-17, 20-25, 25-20 win over Franklin. Sydney Phillips led the way offensively with 18 kills, four digs and two blocks while Michaela Palumbo added nine kills and 10 service points and Grace Ely chipped in with six kills and two blocks, Kat Kmetz had a strong day serving with 19 service points while Elise Pereira had four aces and seven digs. Rachael Veilleux had a strong all-around day with 34 assists and 12 service points, including five aces.

Oliver Ames, 2 @ Mansfield, 3 – Final – Trailing 8-7 in the deciding fifth set, Mansfield’s Katie Dardinski (11 service points) served six straight points to put the Hornets ahead for good. Mansfield won the match 17-25, 25-22, 25-22, 17-25, 15-9. Meg Hill had a strong day at the net with 23 kills while Lexi Gardner added nine kills and 20 service points. Julia Harrison added seven kills and 12 digs for the Hornets. For Oliver Ames, sophomore Ally Kemp had 35 assists to go along with five kills while Katie Flynn (14 kills) and Kayla Raymond (nine kills, six blocks, four aces) paced the Tigers’ offense. Junior Sadie Homer finished with 19 digs and three aces for OA.

Golf
King Philip, 172 @ Mansfield, 163 – Final – Mansfield junior Jake DiSangro and freshman Nathan Morreale each carded rounds of 40 to lead the Hornets to a key division win over King Philip. Freshman Brian See added a 41 while senior Brendan Loomer carded a round of 42 in the win.

Milford, 176 @ Stoughton, 186 – Final – Milford’s Riley Lynch and Stoughton’s Brendan Campbell shared medalist honors, each carding a round of 42. Milford’s Andrew Fauerbach added a 44 in the Hawks’ win.

Franklin, 162 @ Attleboro, 167 – Final – Attleboro’s Corey McKenna and Franklin’s Bryan Woelfel earned co-medalist honors at Highland Country Club, but Matt D’Errico’s round of 40 and Gerard Collins and Jack Paterson both for 42 to help the Panthers earn the win. Jack Handy added a 41 for the Bombardiers.

Sharon, 165 @ Oliver Ames, 137 – Final – Oliver Ames’ Thomas Walsh birdied on five of his last six holes to shoot an incredible four-under-par round of 30 to lead the Tigers to a win. Walsh sank a 20-foot put on the last hole to finish at 30. Walsh’s round, which may be a school record, was complemented by Ryan McGarry’s par round of 34, Mark Bissonette’s round of 36 and Eric LeBlanc’s round of 37.

Nathaniel Cardoza put the Tigers ahead on an assist from Chris Lawrence while Michael Nikiciuk doubled the lead, on an assist from Brandin Osborne. OAHS head coach praised the play of Cam Vella, Mason Galbato, Matt Campbell and Colin Evin.

Sharon, 0 @ Canton, 2 – Final – Canton junior Griffin Roach continued his strong start to the season, netting a brace in the win. Roach scored once in each half.

Mansfield, 3 @ Franklin, 2 – Final – Mansfield built a 3-0 lead over the first 25 minutes of the game and then held off a late push from the Panthers. John Cooney opened the scoring on an assist from Sean Lanzillo in the eighth minute and just three minutes later, Jared Gabrilowitz made it 2-0 on a feed from Cullin Anastasia. Nick Wisnieski converted a chance from Gabrilowitz in the 22nd minute to make it 3-0. Franklin got on the board when sophomore Sam Stowell converted a penalty kick in the 38th minute. Sophomore Lucas Mauro netted Franklin’s second goal off an assist from Nasir Brahimi. Nick Ferraz made six saves in net for Mansfield.

King Philip, 1 @ Taunton, 0 – Final – King Philip Connor Mullins converted a cross from Thomas Lugten inside the area in the first half to give the Warriors the win.

North Attleboro, 4 @ Stoughton, 0 – Final – North Attleboro built a 3-0 lead by halftime and converted a set piece in the second half to earn two points on the road. Sophomore Dylan Corrigan grabbed his first goal of the game in the sixth minute, and made it 3-0 in the 30th minute, burying a rebound chance after a terrific save from Stoughton keeper Carter Gerome. Girls Soccer
Oliver Ames, 2 @ Attleboro, 1 – Final – Maeve Hogan put OA in front with a header off a Sophia Cox corner. Briley Harnois tied the game late in the first half, but Abby Hodges popped up with the game-winner midway through the second half, off a Jackie Mills cross.

Sharon, 1 @ Canton, 2 – Final – Freshman Elisa Diletzia scored with a header off a Riley Duserick cross in the closing minutes to nab the win for the Bulldogs. Freshman Olivia Rodman scored the first for Canton off a Lilah Sullivan assist.

Foxboro, 1 @ Milford, 0 – Final – Lily Sykes scored the lone goal of the game with a shot from outside the 18. Katie Huether assisted on the goal for the Warriors. According to Milford coach Jay Mastaj, Olivia Marshall played well in goal with a number of saves to keep the Hawks in it and Ashleigh Starks and Juliana France both had strong games as well.

Taunton, 1 @ King Philip, 5 – Final – King Philip sophomores Avery Snead and Chloe Layne linked up for three goals in King Philip’s win at home. Layne (three points) scored twice, both on assists from Snead, who scored once and had another assist for a total of four points. Abby Baker scored an unassisted tally and Jenna Hitchen also scored once. Samantha Tichelaar scored the lone goal of the game for the Tigers, while Grace Pimenta made 12 saves for Taunton.

Stoughton, 0 @ North Attleboro, 5 – Final – Ashlyn Gaulin had a brace and an assist for the Rocketeers, while Haley Guertin, Aine Mendonca, and Mackenzie Rosenberg each scored one in the win. Leah Jette, Samantha Hawkins, and Kayla Pasquel each had assists. North coach Bill Wallace said that Coley Flynn, Meg Slaney and Ally Blaisdell “had excellent games.”

Senior Jackie Kandar had a strong game defensively for the Tigers and added four kills and two aces. Emma Petrillo added 12 kills and Katie Flynn finished with 10 kills.

Canton, 3 @ Sharon, 0 – Final – Canton picked up a sweep on the road, notching a 25-12, 25-18, 25-15 win. Erin Devine had a great match with eight kills without any hitting errors (.727). Nyah Claiborne chipped in with three aces and great defense. Sofia Connor had 12 digs and Nicole Brown added 16 assists.

Mansfield, 0 @ Franklin, 3 – Final – Franklin had a strong, well-rounded attack to pick up a sweep against Mansfield. Ellie Wisniewski (ace), Meaghan Maguire (block) and Hailey Sanders all had eight kills apiece while Maggie Doyle (three blocks) added four kills. For Mansfield, Meg Hill added eight kills, Julia Harrison had six kills and Mikayla Kearney chipped in with 10 digs.

Jackson Murphy opened the scoring for the visitors, converting a chance from Sean Lanzillo to take a 1-0 lead into the break. Murphy then set up Anastasia for Mansfield’s second goal and John Cooney recorded to assist on the final tally. Nick Ferraz recorded his third shutout in net.

Canton, 0 @ Milford, 2 – Final – Milford junior Anthony Salvador scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the first half, and then drew a penalty late in the second half to help the Hawks record a shutout win over visiting Canton. Wallison De Oliveira converted the penalty kick to seal the win. MHS head coach Brian Edwards praised the defensive efforts of senior Jacob Balzarini.

King Philip, 1 @ Oliver Ames, 4 – Final – Oliver Ames scored a pair of goals in each half in a key division win over visiting King Philip. Senior Michael Nikiciuk opened the scoring while classmate Brandin Osborne made it 2-0 by half. Mason Galbato converted a flick from Nathaniel Cardoza off a long throw in by Chris Lawrence to make it 3-0 and minutes later, senior Matt Alvarado made it 4-0. In the final minute of play, KP junior John Cullen played a through ball to freshman Camron Lawrence who played across to freshman Ajae Olsen for the finish.

North Attleboro, 2 @ Sharon, 1 – Final – North Attleboro took the lead inside the first 10 minutes and netted the game-winner midway through the second half to pick up a key division win on the road. Sophomore Dylan Corrigan opened the scoring in the sixth minute, converting a long goal kick from Zach Matracia. Gabe Pinhancos doubled the lead in the 63rd minute on a feed from Ryan Pasquel. Sharon sophomore Michael Baur converted a penalty kick in the 76th minute. NA goalie Brendan Matracia made three key saves down the stretch for the Rocketeers.

Girls Soccer
Attleboro, 1 @ Mansfield, 4 – Final – Stephanie Kemp scored a brace and Cassidy McMahon had a goal and an assist for the Hornets, who stayed perfect on the season. Attleboro battled throughout and cut the Mansfield lead to 2-1 midway through the second half on a goal by Julia Reyes, assisted by Alison Wall. As the Bombardiers pushed forward for an equalizer, Mansfield scored two more to seal the two points. Madison Brown made 12 saves in the loss and, according to coach Steve Santos, Jordyn Forte and Julia Hayes played well on defense.

Canton, 3 @ Milford, 3 – Final – Milford got a pair of goals from Juliana France and one from Maggie Boyle to earn a draw against the Bulldogs. According to Milford coach Jay Mastaj, Ashleigh Starks also played well for the Hawks.

Foxboro, 4 @ Stoughton, 1 – Final – Stoughton took the lead on the Warriors with a goal by Nicole Weir, assisted by Gabbi Diaz. Foxboro responded with four straight goals to get the win, including a pair of goals from Lily Sykes. Katelyn Mollica scored the eventual game-winner before halftime and Jordyn Collins scored early in the second half, before Sykes wrapped up the win with a shot from distance. According to Stoughton coach Tara Daniels, outside backs Cintia Khouzami and Sarina Hutchinson had “outstanding” games.

Oliver Ames, 2 @ King Philip, 1 – Final – Chloe Layne scored a penalty kick to give the Warriors the lead in the fifth minute, but OA bounced back with two goals before halftime to hand KP its first loss of the season. Abby Hodges scored off an Sophia Cox corner kick to tie the game and Erin Holmberg bent a corner directly in for what turned out to be the game-winner. Regan Benton made 14 saves for the Tigers and drew praise from KP coach Gary Pichel, who said that Benton was “clearly one of the best goalkeepers in the state.” OA coach Britt Sellmayer said that Maeve Hogan played a strong game in the OA defense.

Sharon, 0 @ North Attleboro, 5 – Final – It took North only 58 seconds to jump into the lead with a goal from Kayla Pasquel, assisted by Ashlyn Gaulin. Aine Mendonca made it two off another Gaulin assist and Leah Jette made it 3-0 off a Pasquel assist. Gaulin added a pair of second half goals, one off a Haley Guertin shot and the second on an assist by Mackenzie Rosenberg. Emma Noreck had the clean sheet for North and head coach Bill Wallace praised Aly Blaisdell, Felicity Monfils, Britta MacDonald, Haley Ferrin and Emma Gaulin for strong play on both ends of the field.

Field Hockey
Mansfield, 6 @ Attleboro, 1 – Final – Senior Ann Maher scored a hat trick to pace Mansfield to a win on the road. Heather D’Ambra, Brooke Downey and Haley Crawford each tallied once for the Hornets in the win.

King Philip, 5 @ Oliver Ames, 0 – Final – King Philip’s Christina Hathaway scored and had an assist in the first half, helping the Warriors build a 2-0 lead at the break. Hathaway scored on a feed from Nicole Conor and then set up a goal by Liz Furfari. Furfari made it 3-0 of a pass from Alli Meehan and then Meehan netted the final two goals, one set up by Olivia Kulesza. Abby Campbell turned away three shots in net.

North Attleboro, 8 @ Sharon, 0 – Final

Volleyball
Mansfield, 3 @ Attleboro, 1 – Final – After splitting the first two sets, Mansfield rattled off two wins to earn the victory on the road (25-23, 19-25, 25-16, 25-16). Julia Harrison had eight kills while Mikayla Kearney had seven digs and eight service points. Emma Ascoli added 14 service points and 24 assists for the Hornets while Jolie O’Neil chipped in with 10 service points.

Milford, 1 @ Canton, 3 – Final – Milford earned a win in the first set but Canton rallied back to win the next three and take the victory (21-25, 25-12, 26-24, 29-27). Nicole Brown ran the Canton’s offense with 37 assists, Taylor Harris had 13 kills and four aces and Rose Hazam and Erin Devine combined for 14 kills. CHS head coach Pat Cawley said Theresa O’Brien provided a spark off the bench with 14 service points.

Stoughton, 3 @ Foxboro, 0 – Final – The Black Knights stretched their unbeaten streak to six wins to start the season with a 25-14, 25-12, 25-14 sweep of Foxboro. SHS junior Hanna Holden had a strong game with 14 assists and 9 digs while senior Haley Stone and junior Mia Bennett were solid in the back row combining for over 30 digs. 

Taunton, 0 @ Franklin, 3 – Final – Franklin’s Ellie Wisniewski had a strong well-rounded game, leading the Panthers to a sweep at home. Wisniewski had seven kills, five aces and two digs while Meaghan Maguire added eight kills and Lauren McGrath finished with 24 assists, three digs, three aces and two kills.

Sharon, 0 @ North Attleboro, 3 – Final – North Attleboro survived a late push from visiting Sharon to complete a sweep (25-11, 25-12, 26-24) and move to 5-0. Senior Kezia De La Cruz had 13 kills and two assists, senior Amelia Murphy added nine kills and senior Leah Marceau paced the offense with 20 assists and four aces.

King Philip, 3 @ Oliver Ames, 0 – Final – King Philip went on the road to pick up a sweep of the Tigers, 25-19, 25-11, 25-12. 2017 Davenport Girls Soccer Preview

Canton

2016 Record: 10-8-2
2016 Finish: Reached D2 South Semifinal
Coach: Kate Howarth

For each of the past two seasons, Canton has finished second in the Davenport division and, with only three seniors graduating from the 2016 roster, the Bulldogs are poised to make another run at a league title this fall. Enthusiasm is also high after a strong closing stretch to last year, which included a draw with Kelley-Rex champ Mansfield and playoff victories over Greater New Bedford and Milton.

Senior Riley Duserick is the focal point of the Canton midfield and her ability to open space, pick out the right pass, and shoot from distance gives the Bulldogs a consistent threat in the attack. Junior Julia Hamilton emerged last season as a solid counterpoint to Duserick in the heart of the midfield with her tenacity and speed adding even more cover to the back line. Sophomores Lauren and Morgan McCabe will be added to the midfield options after strong rookie seasons. Lauren Fitzpatrick could see more time up front to replace the graduated Hannah Link and Tessa Cudmore and head coach Kate Howarth expects several freshmen to contribute as well.

The defense had inconsistent moments early in 2016, but the Bulldogs seemed to figure things out midway through the season and with the back four all returning defense should be a strength for Canton. Seniors Sarah Connolly and Carly Hutchinson will lead the defensive unit and junior Sarah Collins brings energy and speed from her right back spot.

“We are working really hard every day to get better at the little things that will push us beyond being a good team this season,” Howarth said. “I think our biggest weakness last year was consistency, so if we can get ahead of that right away we will be in a much better place than we were last year.”

Foxboro

2016 Record: 11-9-0
2016 Finish: Reached D2 South Quarterfinal

Foxboro had an inconsistent 2016, but demonstrated the talent in the program by beating perennial power Notre Dame Academy in the first round of the playoffs and nearly going on the road to beat Medfield in the second round, only to fall in a penalty shootout. The Warriors have seven returning players, so this will be a young team in 2017, but new head coach Katie Stalcup will be familiar with those players after her stint as the JV coach last year.

The Warriors will be able to count on senior Lily Sykes. The four-year starter is one of the most dynamic players in the league and is capable of dominating the midfield by beating a defender off the dribble or picking out a defense-splitting pass. Senior Shaina Abbott will be one of the forwards that Sykes will be looking to set up, while senior Olivia Dantona adds speed on the wings. Senior Mackenzie Cusack is also back to lead the defensive unit along with junior Alex Stamatos.

Stalcup is counting on a number of young players to step in and contribute right away. Sophomore Lizzy Davis played for Stalcup on JV last year and brings speed and physicality to the forward position. Among the freshmen that will be on the roster are midfielder Katelyn Mollica, forward Jordyn Collins, and defender Emma Dahl.

“I am very excited about being the new varsity coach this year,” said Stalcup. “We have seven returning varsity players, four seniors who are all captains and five very impressive freshmen on the team for this season as well as some great players coming up from JV. We are a young team, but I am excited to see how well we can play together.”

Milford

2016 Record: 5-9-4
2016 Finish: Missed playoffs

Milford is looking to bounce back from a five-win season to challenge for a spot in the state tournament this fall. The Hawks have a roster filled with youth and bring the majority of the starting lineup back and head coach Jay Mastaj is confident that the talent is there to make a push up the table and compete with the top teams in the league.

The Hawks are deep and experienced on the back line and the defense could be a real strength for Milford this season. Seniors Rachel LeBlanc and Brianna Braza will be the leaders in the heart of the defense and will try to keep everyone organized. Senior Leeanne Kibbee will lead the attack and will be counted on to finish off chances created by senior Maggie Boyle and sophomore Ashleigh Starks, who will look to create from the center of midfield.

Mastaj said of the attackers, “The combination brings strong skills, familiarity and solid varsity experience.” He is also excited about the younger players and what they can bring to the table this year, including sophomores Madelyn Boyle, Julianna France, and Annie Flanagan.

“This season we expect to be very competitive across the entire league,” Mastaj added, “and with a little bit of luck we believe we can challenge for the top of the Davenport.”

North Attleboro

2016 Record: 14-4-2 (Davenport Division Champions)
2016 Finish: Reached D1 South Quarterfinal

Despite changing coaches midway through the 2016 season, North Attleboro rolled to its first league title in its first season in the Davenport division. The Rocketeers racked up 14 wins and a goal differential of plus-40. Expectations are even higher coming into this fall with North returning a roster filled with experienced upperclassmen.

URI-commit Haley Guertin is the player to watch for the Rocketeers, as the senior forward is both a goal threat and also a playmaker who consistently opens up opportunities for her teammates. Her 37 career assists is tied for the most in program history. Head coach Bill Wallace said that there is a change in systems coming up front, but with Leah Jette and Ashlyn Gaulin joining Guertin, North will have a formidable attack.

In the midfield, Aine Mendonca returns to hold things down in the center of the pitch. Her poise in posession and ability to break up opposing attacks is critical for the Rocketeers. Of course, if anyone gets through, HockomockSports.com Best XI defender Rachel LaBonte and fellow senior Emily Chiasson are on hand to clean it up. North also returns both Nina Beauvais and Emma Noreck in goal.

“We should be up tempo and have a lot of depth,” said Wallace. “These kids have played together for years and generally care about each other. As always, the Hock is a ‘bear’ of a league and for us to continue last years success we are going to have to work hard and continue to improve!”

Sharon

2016 Record: 7-9-2
2016 Finish: Missed playoffs
Coach: Brad Furnival

Sharon narrowly missed out on reaching the playoffs last season under first-year head coach Brad Furnival. This year, making the playoffs could be even more difficult after the team lost nine seniors and seven starters from last year’s team. The Eagles will be building with youth this fall and gaining experience for a number of new faces.

One returning player that the Eagles will be counting on is senior Ally Filipkowski, who is coming off an exciting summer that saw her named to the U-20 Puerto Rican national team. The George Washington-commit is one of the most talented players with the ball in the league and she will be tasked with creating most of the chances for the Eagles. Senior Sabrina Robbins will step into a leadership role at the heart of the Sharon defense this fall and will be counted on to organize a young group.

Among the new faces to watch is junior Maxine Gordon, who will be starting in the attack this fall and is hoping to build off her experience from last season to be a consistent goal scorer. Sophomore Bella Berger is another player that Furnival believes could be in for a strong season. Berger will be influencing the game from the center of midfield.

“This season will be more of a transition season for Sharon girls,” Furnival said. “We have a very young team so the vision for this team is a couple of seasons down the line. We are hoping to continue playing an attacking brand of soccer and are looking forward to coming up against some top opposition that the Hock will pit us up against.”

Stoughton

Stoughton has been in a rebuilding mode for the past couple of seasons, but entering 2017 head coach Tara Daniels is making changes to the formation and counting on an experienced back line to get the Black Knights moving up the table in the Davenport division.

The leader for Stoughton is senior Sarah Widrow, who was the team’s lone league all-star last fall and impressed during the HockomockSports.com Charity All-Star Game. As an attacking fullback, Widrow pushes the Black Knights forward and adds vocal leadership to the back line. She will be joined at the back by the speedy Gabriela Diaz, who was converted from striker to defender. Senior Mia Greene will be the focal point in the midfield to try and keep possession for Stoughton.

Sophomore Chinazo Odunze returns from a injury-shortened season to lead the line for the Black Knights attack. She had a strong start to her freshman campaign before her injury and Daniels calls her combination of speed and physicality a “game-changer” for the attack.

Daniels said, “This season we are trying a new formation to give us more offensive opportunities…Staying healthy and in good shape is key to a successful season. We are looking to step up our possession game and having more of an offensive push this year.”
