Franklin junior Sarah Dumas has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Feb. 5 through Feb. 11. Dumas is the 20th player chosen as Player of the Week for the 2022-23 school year and eighth in the winter season.
Dumas won two individual titles at the annual Hockomock League Indoor Track Championships, held last week at the TRACK at New Balance. She won the 55-meter hurdles and the high jump, helping the Panthers take first place as a team. Franklin finished with 115.50 points, which was 45 more than second-place Oliver Ames.
“Sarah has been an outstanding performer all indoor track season,” said Franklin head coach Paul Trovato. “She is a premier hurdler in the state and is an accomplished Pentathlete. Sarah was a two event winner at the Hocks winning the high jump and the hurdles. Sarah has qualified for the MIAA D1 Championship in the hurdles, high jump, and long jump. She is a ‘Super Qualifier’ in the hurdles and will automatically compete at the Meet of Champions. She has qualified for the National Meet in the Pentathlon and 4×400 Relay.”
Dumas claimed her first title in the hurdles, sprinting into first place with a time of 8.69, which was 0.30 better than Maude Kilmer of Sharon. The junior followed that up with first place in the high jump. She cleared 5-00.00 to grab the title, edging out Stoughton’s Gabriele Julien and Franklin’s Abigail Griffith, who also cleared 5-00.00, by taking less attempts to reach the winning height. Dumas also competed in the long jump, taking sixth place with a leap of 16-04.00. In addition to winning the title at the league meet, Franklin was also the Kelley-Rex dual meet champs, winning all five of their meets this season.
