Sharon senior Brandon Mauricio has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Sept. 5 through Sept. 11. Mauricio is the first player chosen as Player of the Week for the 2022-23 school year.
Mauricio had a brace in the season-opening win over Taunton, helping the Eagles turn things on in the second half to start the season on a high. The striker scored either side of halftime, including the game-winner to spark the 5-1 victory.
With the game seemingly destined to go into halftime scoreless, Mauricio took a pass from freshman Vlad Shkolnikov, cut it back onto his right foot and fired a shot inside the far post for the 1-0 lead. Shortly after the break, Maricio got his and his team’s second of the day. Adam Eastman’s free kick was headed to the back post by Rhys Davis and Rishi Shetty responded first to play it back across goal. Mauricio showed off a poacher’s instinct to prod the ball home from close range.
