Oliver Ames junior midfielder Francesca Calabraro has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week for Oct. 11 through Oct. 17; the sixth player chosen in the 2015 season and second girls’ soccer player. Calabraro scored 11 goals to lead the Tigers to four wins this week.
Calabraro, the reigning HockomockSports.com Underclassman of the Year, started the week with a hat trick against Attleboro and then added two more in a 3-0 win against division rival Foxboro. She scored another hat trick and had an assist against Stoughton before adding her third hat trick of the week against Brockton on Saturday.
“Chez can change the outcome of a game in so many ways,” said OA coach Britt Sellmayer. “She can strike it from 30 yards out, take defenders on one-on-one in the box and is one of the most dangerous players in the air near the goal (five of the goals this week were off headers).”
In addition to her goalscoring, Calabraro has been a versatile weapon for the Tigers who have used her up front more recently but also dropped her deeper in the midfield against teams such as Franklin or Mansfield to try and win the aerial battle in the middle of the pitch.
“The great thing about Chez for such a great player she is always had a team first attitude,” added Sellmayer. On the season, Calabraro leads the Hockomock with 22 goals and 26 points.
The four wins this week moved Oliver Ames to 11-1-2 overall this season and 9-1-2 in the Davenport, which is two points ahead of second place Canton. OA will host the Bulldogs on Tuesday afternoon at Muscato Stadium.
Player of the Week is selected by the HockomockSports.com staff. Nominations can be submitted throughout the week up until Saturday night at midnight. There will be a poll posted on every Sunday with the nominations. The results of the poll influence the selection but do not strictly dictate the decision.
