Boys Soccer
Franklin, 1 @ Attleboro, 2 – Final – Esvin Morales set up the tying goal and scored the game-winner just minutes later as the Bombardiers rallied to take a win over Franklin. With the win, Attleboro moves into a first place tie in the Kelley-Rex division with Mansfield. Franklin opened the scoring just before the half hour mark. Tyler Powderly used his speed to get down the right wing and play in a cross. The initial ball was cleared but only as far as junior Max Tobin, who one-timed it into the top corner to put the visitors ahead. Attleboro’s best chance of the first half came in the 17th minute when senior Yianni Skordas forced a turnover and pushed forward, centering to Morales. Morales cut back to evade a defender and the keeper but his shot on goal was denied by Franklin senior midfielder Terry O’Neill. In the second half, Cashel Stuger played the ball to Morales, who turned and played a ball over the top of the defense and sophomore Alex Vecchioli finished the half volley from a step inside the area to bring the hosts level. Four minutes later, after Franklin was whistled for a handball, Morales stepped over the ball and placed a shot on frame while the Panthers were setting up the wall and it just beat the diving keeper for the game-winner.

Milford, 2 vs. Hopedale, 0 – Final – Milford scored a pair of second half goals to earn a win over local rival Hopedale. John Borges had two assists for the Scarlet Hawks, setting up both goals. First, Borges found Eduardo Santana to put the hosts in front and then Borges assisted on a goal from Chris Tocci.

Girls Soccer
Attleboro, 1 @ Franklin, 3 – Final – Senior Riley Fitzpatrick scored a pair of goals to lead the Panthers to a win at home over the visiting Bombardiers. Fitzpatrick had a beautiful header off a free kick from Norah Anderson and scored her other goal off a pass from Anya Zub. Zub had two assists in the win, setting up senior Stella Regan for the other Franklin goal.

Foxboro, 1 vs. Bishop Feehan, 1 – Final

Sharon, 4 @ Milford, 5 – Final – Dani Atherton had a hat trick and an assist to lead Milford to a wild win over Sharon. It was Milford’s second win in the past three days. Paige Caldon added her second goal in as many games and Cailyn Paccico had one for the Hawks. The Eagles got two goals apiece from Wendy Wooden and Carly Pinnix. Olivia Soby had two assists and Sofia Goclowski had one for Sharon and Amber Marcus-Blank played well defensively.




Field Hockey
Attleboro, 5 @ Mansfield, 1 – Final – Madison Ellis scored a hat trick to pace the Bombardiers to a big win on the road over Mansfield. Attleboro recevied a great defensive effort from Trinity Harrison and the Bombardiers transitioned from defense to offense smoothly due to the strong play of Jordan Croteau. Olivia Hillman had a strong game on the right side for the visitors and scored once.

Foxboro, 0 @ Canton, 1 – Final – Canton’s Ellie Bohane scored late in the fourth quarter to give the Bulldogs a win over Foxboro, stretching their unbeaten streak to eight. Bohane converted a pass from Sierra Abbott for the lone goal of the game while Carolyn Durand made key saves down the stretch to preserve the shutout.

North Attleboro, 2 @ Oliver Ames, 2 – Final – Four different players found the back of the net, two from each team, and Oliver Ames and North Attleboro split the two points in a 2-2 draw. Tyla Delamere and Georgia Costello each scored for the Tigers while Julia Maclaine and Costello each had an assists. Caroline Rolan (from Emily Burnham) and Zoe McKeon scored for the Rocketeers.

Sharon, 0 @ Stoughton, 1 – Final – Zofia Bangs scored the lone goal of the game as Stoughton picked up a win on Senior Night.

Volleyball
Attleboro, 0 @ Mansfield, 3 – Final – Mansfield earned a key division win in the form of a 3-0 sweep (25-15, 25-5, 25-15) over the visiting Bombardiers of Attleboro. Julia Kelly had a big game with 11 kills, five aces, and a pair of digs, Nicole Santos added seven aces and four kills, Lexie Scibilia chipped in with three kills, three blocks, and a pair of aces, and Christina Lydon and Izzy Flint combined for 21 assists. For Attleboro, Julia Leonardo recorded eight kills while Brianna Frissora had a great game at the net.

Foxboro, 0 @ Canton, 3 – Final – Canton bounced back from a tough five-set loss to Westwood with a clean 3-0 sweep (25-8, 25-17, 25-22) over visiting Foxboro. Jess Wright continued to lead the offense for the Bulldogs with 12 kills and added eight digs. Taylor Reynold dished out 22 assists to go with six aces, Syd Gallery added five kills and two aces, and Anna Verille continued to shine defensively with 15 digs and two kills.

Franklin, 2 @ King Philip, 3 – Final – Click here for a Photo Gallery from this match. – The battle between the top two teams in the Hockomock League lived up to the hype as King Philip rallied from a two-game deficit to stun Franklin, 3-2 (23-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-23, 15-12). Sami Shore, Ahunna James, and Emily Sawyer all played well at the net for KP in the comeback win while Samantha Asprelli and Gianna DeLorenzo anchored the back row in the win. Sofia Riedel had a big day at the service line for KP with 11 service points and three aces. For Franklin, Brigid Earley (two blocks) and Taylor Lacerda (22 digs) each had 14 kills while Lindsey Tarantola added nine kills and eight blocks.

Milford, 3 @ Taunton, 2 – Final – In an incredibly close match, Milford prevailed with a 3-2 win (27-25, 25-22, 18-25, 22-25, 15-11). For Taunton, Hayley Krockta and Mikayla Cleary each had 11 kills while Anna Abouzeid dished out 28 assists.

Oliver Ames, 0 @ North Attleboro, 3 – Final – In a match tighter than the final score shows, North Attleboro secured an important 3-0 win (25-22, 26-24, 25-20) win over Oliver Ames. For the Tigers, junior Maddie Homer recorded 25 digs, senior Hadley Rhodes dished out 26 assists to go along with five kills, sophomore Sarah Hilliard added 14 kills and 10 digs, and sophomore Claire O’Rourke chipped in with eight kills and three aces.

Golf
Attleboro vs. Dighton-Rehoboth, 2:30

Foxboro, 157 @ Oliver Ames, 152 – Final – Oliver Ames earned its 10th win of the season by taking down Foxboro in a close match at Pine Oaks. Senior captain Jake Kaplan shot a medalist round of 35 to lead the way for the Tigers. Junior Michael McGinnis and sophomore Aden Ashley each shot a 39 to count for the scoring for the first time in their careers. Sophomore Lucas Riley and junior Daniel Paul both added a 40 in the win.

Sharon, 171 @ Canton, 147 – Final – Sophomore Mekhala Costello capped a tremendous week with another medalist round, this time a one-over par round of 35 to lead the Bulldogs to a big win at home over Sharon. The win clinches at least a share of the Davenport division title for Canton. Mike Loenetti added a 36 in the win, Conor Hunter chipped in with a 37, and Will Gefteas finished with a 39 for Canton. Eric Carter led the way for Sharon with a round of 41, Owen Kevorkian added a 42, and Nathan Daley, Noah Glassman, and James Spoto all shot a 44 for the Eagles.

Canton, 5 @ Sharon, 2 – Final – Canton pulled away late to grab a road win. Gabriella Herivaux led the way for the Bulldogs with a brace. Sofia Goclowski scored for Sharon on an assist by Olivia Soby. Amanda Hu also found the back of the net for the Eagles, assisted by Wendy Wooden.

Stoughton, 0 @ Norwood, 3 – Final – Shayla Ford played well in the loss for Stoughton, but couldn’t finish her chances. Mia Rivera also had a decent game in goal for the Black Knights and Sofia Issa continues to impress in the midfield.

Field Hockey
Attleboro, 2 @ King Philip, 3 – Final – Attleboro scored a pair of second half goals to level the match but King Philip sophomore Kelly Holmes scored on a beautiful aerial shot with just over two minutes to play to give the Warriors the win. Sophomore Mara Boldy opened the scoring in the first quarter on an assist from Sydney O’Shea and then Holmes scored to make it 2-0. Emma Briggs cut the deficit in half with a third quarter goal and Sarah McMahon tied it with under six to play before Holmes deposited her shot over everyone and into the far corner off of a penalty corner. Senior defenders Haley Izydorczak and Molly Piller both played outstanding in the win.

Canton, 7 @ Sharon, 0 – Final

Foxboro, 2 @ Oliver Ames, 4 – Final – After trading goals in the first half, Oliver Ames’ Erin Cottam scored twice in the second half to give the Tigers a key division win over Foxboro. Junior Tyla Delamere opened the scoring with her first career goal midway through the first quarter but Jenny Gallagher responded with just over a minute left in the period to make it 1-1. Georgia Costello put the hosts ahead just over a minute into the second but Gallagher answered again just over a minute later to send the teams into the halftime break knotted at 2-2. Cottam got her first goal of the game late in the third off a feed from Lily Gaskill. Cottam tacked on a second one with 9:48 to play to secure the win. Both Gaskill and Ava Costello played well in the midfield while Olivia Stevens had a strong game on defense for the Tigers.

Franklin, 8 @ Milford, 0 – Final – Franklin scored twice in each the first and second quarters and put it out of reach with three more in the third in a win on the road at Milford. Kaitlyn Carney scored four goals and had one assist to pace the offense, getting assists from Sophia Cuneo, Ella Aldred, and Ella Mahoney while Kendall Jones scored twice in the win (one assisted by Haley Wernig). Sydney Rogan tacked on a pair of second quarter goals for the Panthers.

Mansfield, 2 @ Taunton, 2 – Final – Taunton built a two-goal lead in the second half but Mansfield struck for a pair of second half goals, including the gaming one with less than a minute to go to grab a point on the road. Jillian Edmond (from Kaysie DeMoura) broke the deadlock with a goal with just over four minutes to play in the third. DeMoura recorded her second assist by finding Caelen O’Leary early in the fourth quarter. Mansfield scored with 20 seconds left to tie the game. Em Gannon had a big game in net with 16 saves while Jasmine Lucier and Kylie Thorpe both played well.

Attleboro, 0 @ King Philip, 3 – Final – King Philip’s offense was hitting on all cylinders as the Warriors rolled to a 3-0 sweep (25-7, 25-17, 25-9) win at home over the visiting Bombardiers of Attleboro. Middles Sami Shore (11 kills, three blocks) and Emily Sawyer (10 kills) both had strong showings while Ahunna James (seven kills, five digs) played a strong all-around game. Samantha Asprelli added 12 digs and Stella Bailey recorded 18 service points and 26 assists.

Foxboro, 0 @ Oliver Ames, 3 – Final – Oliver Ames took care of business on Friday evening, knocking off division foe Foxboro in straight sets (25-7, 25-13, 25-18). Junior Courtney Raymond played well in the win with eight kills and two blocks, senior Shannon Willard added 14 assists, senior Hadley Rhodes dished out 12 assists and added four kills, and sophomore Sarah Hilliard recorded 10 kills and five aces.

Canton, 3 @ Sharon, 1 – Final – Canton bounced back from a one-set deficit to take three straight on the road for a 3-1 victory (18-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-15). Sydney Gallery had one of the best performances of her career with 13 kills, seven digs, and three aces to lead the way. Anna Verille anchored the defense for the visitors with 25 digs and added an ace and a kill while Talya DeGraw turned in a strong all-around performance with nine kills, 14 digs, and an ace.

Franklin, 3 @ Milford, 1 – Final – Milford fought hard to avoid the sweep with a win in the third set but Franklin proved to be too much as the Panthers secured a 3-1 (25-16, 25-22, 20-25, 25-16) win over the Hawks. Junior Meghan Linkkila anchored the defense with 15 digs and had a strong showing at the service line with seven aces while sophomore Taylor Lacerda was nearly unstoppable at the net with 19 kills to go along with 11 digs and a pair of aces.

Mansfield, 3 @ Taunton, 1 – Final – After dropping the first set, Mansfield rallied to take three straight, including a vital third set, to knock off Taunton, 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-12). Christina Lydon dished out 17 assists in the win with Nicole Santos (six kills), Elyssa Buchanan (six kills), and Julia Kelly (five kills) pacing the offense.

Golf
North Attleboro, 201 @ Attleboro, 197 – Final (5 cards) – Attleboro grabbed its sixth win of the season and got back to .500 with its second close win over rival North Attleboro this year. Carter Shelton and Leo Lombardo led the way after both shooting a 37, Brendan Raymond added a 39, and Dane Holske, Parker Sackett, and Jackson Sweeney all came in at 42 for the Bombardiers. Tyson Laviano led the visitors with a medalist round of 36 while Jake Gaskin added a 38.

Mansfield, 161 @ Sharon, 170 – Final – Mansfield finished the week a perfect 4-0, capping it off with a win over Sharon at the Norton Country Club. After a solid showing in his varsity debut, junior Drew Urban had a hole-in-one on the seventh hole to highlight the win. Cian Goulet had a team-low round of 39, Brendan Vokey and Hunter Tang each shot a 40, and Ryan Doherty and Urban both came in with a 42.

Wednesday’s Schedule & Scoreboard – 09/29/21

Boys Soccer
Taunton, 0 @ Mansfield, 4 – Final – Mansfield built a 2-0 lead by halftime and then doubled its advantage inside a five-minute span in the second half to land a big win over visiting Taunton. Danny Rowe, Andrew Bain, Dan Checkoway, and Matt Hyland all scored, getting on the end of a service into the area. Rowe opened the scoring off of a feed from Hyland in the 12th minute, and then Hyland set up Bain off a throw-in from Michael Caridi in the 28th minute. Checkoway scored the first goal of the second half on a cross from Bain, and Hyland made it 4-0 four minutes later on another service from Bain. Jack Lasbury-Casey recorded the shutout with eight saves.

Girls Soccer
Mansfield, 7 @ Taunton, 0 – Final – Tarynn Smith recorded a brace for the third time in a week and helped Mansfield to its fourth straight win. Katie Miller, Avery Hawthorne, Carly Devine, Kara Santos, and Aniela Diieso (first varsity goal) also found the back of the net for the Hornets. Abby Jean had a pair of assists.










Field Hockey
Attleboro, 9 @ Stoughton, 1 – Final

King Philip, 0 @ Canton, 1 – Final – Canton scored midway through the first half and the Bulldogs turned in one of their best defensive performances of the season to knock off King Philip. Carolyn Durand posted the shutout in net while senior Carly Fitzgerald, Junior Sierra Abbott, and Sophomore Laura Valkanas all played well defensively. Sarah Cunningham finished off a pass from Erin Lane for the lone goal of the game.

Franklin, 6 @ Foxboro, 1 – Final – Franklin found the back of the cage three times in each half to pick up a win on the road in Foxboro. The Panthers built a 2-0 lead in the first quarter with goals from Raena Crandall and Shaw Downing (from Crandall), and extended the advantage to 3-0 on a goal from Kaitlyn Carney (from Ella Mahoney) midway through the second quarter. Payten Crandall, Haley Wernig, and Downing all scored goals in the second half.

Mansfield, 3 @ Sharon, 0 – Final

Milford @ North Attleboro, 6:00

Taunton, 1 @ Oliver Ames, 4 – Final – Oliver Ames’ Georgia Costello scored twice and added an assist as the host Tigers took care of business against visiting Taunton. Erin Cottam opened the scoring in the first quarter for OA, who scored once in each quarter, with Lily Gaskill on the assist. Costello tacked on an unassisted goal int he second and then set up Gaskill for a goal in the third. Costello made it 4-1 by scoring in the fourth on a pass from Cottam. Sophomore Casey O’Leary scored for Taunton with an assist from senior Braeley MacDonald.

Volleyball
Attleboro, 3 @ Stoughton, 0 – Final – Attleboro picked up its sixth win of the season after taking a 3-0 sweep (25-18, 25-21, 25-15) on the road at Stoughton. Freshman Julia Leonardo led the way for the Bombardiers with 11 kills and four aces while Brianna Frissora had a standout game at the net. Lilly Boedeker anchored the defense for the visitors.

Franklin, 3 @ Foxboro, 0 – Final – Franklin rolled to its seventh win of the season, this time in the form a 3-0 sweep (25-15, 25-20, 25-6) win on the road at Foxboro. The Panthers, which have only dropped one set all year, were led by Lindsey Tarantola, who had 10 kills and three blocks in the win.

Taunton, 0 @ Oliver Ames, 3 – Final – Oliver Ames defended its home court by taking down visiting Taunton with a 3-0 sweep (25-18, 25-15, 25-14). Sophomore Sarah Hilliard led the charge for the host Tigers with a strong all-around game with 10 kills, 12 serve receptions, and 16 digs. Attleboro, 157 @ North Attleboro, 158 – Final – After losing its last two matches by a combined three strokes, Attleboro ended on the right side of a close match with a win over rival North Attleboro at Heather Hill. Leo Lombardo led the way for the Bombardiers with a team-low round of 37, Carter Shelton added a 39, and Brendan Raymond and Parker Sackett each shot 41 in the win. Tyson Laviano was the match medalist with a low-round of 36, Aaron Levesque came in with a 40, Jake Gaskin added a 41, and Dillon Harding shot a 42 for the Rocketeers.

Foxboro, 158 @ Stoughton, 188 – Final – Foxboro’s Jack Rounds fired a medalist round of 38 and the Warriors went on the road and picked up a win at Easton County Club. Jack Watts added a 39 for Foxboro, Dylan Pothier added a 40, and Matt Fossella finished with a 41 in the win. Joseph Rush shot a team-low round of 44 for the Black Knights.

Canton, 154 @ Sharon, 173 – Final – Mike Leonetti was the match medalist for the Bulldogs and Canton stayed undefeated with a win on the road at the Cape Club of Sharon. Leonetti’s low-round of 37 led the way while Mekhala Costello added a 38, Will Gefteas shot a 39, and Conor Hunter came in with a 40. Nathan Daley paced the Eagles with a 40, Eric Carer and Noah Glassman each shot a 44, and Rosie Leonard chipped in with a 45.

Taunton, 197 @ Mansfield, 164 – Final – In the front end of a home-and-home matchup with Taunton, the Hornets secured a win at Norton Country Club over the Tigers. Hunter Tang was the match medalist with a round of 39, Cian Goulet added a 40 for the Hornets, Ryan Doherty chipped in with a 42, and Brendan Vokey added a 43.

Milford, 175 @ Franklin, 165 – Final – Junior Jack Hagerty birded on the seventh hole to help earn medalist honors and help the Panthers take care of Milford at Franklin Country Club. Hagerty finished with a low-round of 39 while sophomores CJ Steel and Brendan Collins, along with freshman Ben Paterson, all came in at 42. Nate Lawrence led Milford with a round of 40.

Foxboro, 1 @ Attleboro, 2 – Final – After trading goals in the first half, Attleboro went back ahead early in the third quarter and then denied a comeback bid from the Warriors in the fourth quarter. Emma Briggs scored both of the Bombardiers’ goals, putting the hosts ahead midway through the first quarter. Kaelin Connors tied the game shortly before halftime for Foxboro. Briggs scored the game-winner less than five minutes into the third and Attleboro held on.

Canton, 4 @ Taunton, 0 – Final

North Attleboro, 0 @ Franklin, 9 – Final – Holding a 1-0 lead through the first 15 minutes, Franklin exploded for four goals in the second and three more in the third to pull away for the win. Kaitlyn Carney (from Kendall Jones) opened the scoring in the fourth minute and tacked on two more in the second quarter. Shaw Downing and Raena Crandall also scored in the second quarter as the Panthers took a 5-0 advantage into halftime. Downing, Raena Crandall, Payten Crandall, and Emily Carney added goals in the second half. It was the first career goal for both Raena Crandall and Carney. Haley Wernig recorded two assists in the win.

Sharon, 0 @ King Philip, 7 – Final – King Philip senior Sydney O’Shea opened the scoring in the game by opening her account on the season while underclassmen Mara Boldy and Makenzie McDevitt each had multi-point games in the win. O’Shea scored a pair of goals, Boldy found the back of the net twice and had an assist, and McDevitt found the back of the net once and had an assist. Seniors Anetka Nowakowski and Haley Keller each scored their first goals to round out the scoring.

Stoughton, 0 @ Mansfield, 4 – Final

Oliver Ames, 4 @ Milford, 0 – Final – Oliver Ames dominated time in the attacking zone on the Woodland Turf field, taking home two points via a 4-0 win. Sophomore Erin Cottam bookended the scoring for the Tigers, opening the scoring off an assist by Georgia Costello and closing it with a goal on a penalty stroke. Costello and Julia Maclaine, who assisted one another on the middle goals for the Tigers, both had outstanding performances according to head coach Sharon Lawrence, who also noted the strong play of the Milford goalie (14 saves).










Volleyball
Foxboro, 0 @ Attleboro, 3 – Final – Click here for a Photo Gallery from this match. Attleboro beat Foxboro 26-24, 25-17, 25-14 to sweep the season series with the Warriors. It is Attleboro’s fourth win of the year, which ties the program’s most wins in a single season since the Bombardiers entered the Hock. Freshman Julia Leonardo led the way for the hosts in the opening set, recording five kills. The Warriors battled back in the first to tie the set at 24 apiece, but Natalie Brojek’s tip and Leonardo’s kill closed out the first. In the second set Gabby Bolduc stepped up for Attleboro, with a long stint at the service line opening up a five-point advantage that the home team never relinquished. The third set was all Bombardiers. Brojek started the third with five aces, as Attleboro scored the first eight points. The Bombardiers opened up as much as a 15-1 lead and cruised to the win.

Canton, 3 @ Taunton, 0 – Final – Canton’s Fatima Sidibay had one of the best matches of her career and the Bulldogs rolled to a 3-0 sweep (25-6, 25-18, 25-19) on the road at Taunton. Sidibay put down nine kills and turned in four blocks to pace the Bulldogs’ offense. Taylor Reynolds did a great job distributing the ball with 28 assists along with three aces and a pair of kills. “The offense was a total team effort,” said Canton head coach Pat Cawley. Zoe Scibelli and Anna Verille anchored the defense with a combined 20 digs.

North Attleboro, 0 @ Franklin, 3 – Final – Franklin continued its unbeaten start to the season, rolling to a 3-0 sweep (25-17, 25-4, 25-20) win over the visiting Rocketeers of North Attleboro. Junior Cate Roberge and sophomore Taylor Lacerda each registered five kills while Georgia Harvey played well defensively with 15 digs.

Sharon, 0 @ King Philip, 3 – Final – King Philip had a strong showing at the net for its sixth win of the season, recording a 3-0 sweep (25-10, 25-12, 25-14) against the visiting Eagles of Sharon. Middles Sami Shore (13 kills) and Emily Sawyer (nine kills) led the charge the Warriors while outside hitter Ahunna James added eight kills and four digs. Stella Bailey continued her strong serving this season with four aces and a total of 15 service points.

Stoughton, 0 @ Mansfield, 3 – Final – Mansfield took care of business at home, winning a close first and completing a sweep against Stoughton (25-20, 25-22, 25-18). The Hornets had a strong all-around team effort in the win starting with six aces, six kills, and five digs from senior Julia Kelly. Nicole Santos added a pair of kills and four blocks while Christina Lydon (nine assists) and Isabella Flint (seven assists) split the setting duties in the win.

Oliver Ames, 3 @ Milford, 2 – Final – In a see-saw marathon battle, Oliver Ames came home with the win after a thrilling 3-2 (20-25, 25-12, 25-17, 22-25, 15-11) win at Milford. The Hawks got off to a good start with a win in the first set but it looked like the Tigers would take three straight after a pair of dominate sets. Milford bounced back nicely with a win in the fourth set but it was OA that prevailed in a hard-fought fifth set for the win. Sophomore Claire O’Rourke had a standout game with 13 kills, 10 digs, and eight serve receptions. Senior Hadley Rhodes put the offense in motion for the visitors with 38 assists and five aces, junior Maddie Homer notched 35 digs and 30 serve receptions, and sophomore Sarah Hilliard anchored the offense with 20 kills and 16 digs.

Mansfield, 187 @ Foxboro, 172 – Final – The Warriors used home course advantage to pick up one of their biggest wins of the season, knocking off Mansfield at Foxboro Country Club. Jack Rounds paced the way for the hosts on the Par 36 Front 9 at FCC, carding a match-low round of 41. Jack Watts added a 42 in the win while Matt Fossella added a 44 and Matt Sullivan came in with a 45. Hunter Tang paced the visitors with a team-low round of 44 while Ryan Doherty added a 45 in the win.

Milford, 177 @ Canton, 154 – Final – Sophomore Mekhala Costello took her turn as the match medalist as the Bulldogs rolled to another win, this time at Blue Hill Country Club against visiting Milford. Costello fired a one-over par round of 35 to lead the way, Will Gefteas added a 39 for Canton, and Mike Leonetti, Ryan Doucette, and Charlie Cohen all shot a 40. Anthony LaPierre paced the Hawks with a 41, Jacob Hipolito carded a 43, and Nate Lawrence came in with a 44.

North Attleboro, 169 @ Stoughton, 185 – Final – Jake Gaskin earned match medalists once again for the Rocketeers, this time on the road at Easton Country Club to help the Big Red knock off the Black Knights of Stoughton. Gaskin fired a 39 to pace North Attleboro, Tyson Laviano added a 41 in the win, Dillon Harding carded a 44, and Ryan Kohli came in with a 45. Anthony Hern paced Stoughton with a team-low round of 40 in the tri-match.

Sharon, 163 @ Stoughton, 185 – Final – Consistency was key for the Eagles on Thursday with all four of its scorers within a stroke in a win on the road over Stoughton. Reid Nierman was the match medalist at Easton Country Club, firing a team-low round of 40. Eric Carter, Rosie Leonard, and Nathan Daley all shot a 41 for Sharon. Anthony Hern paced Stoughton with a team-low round of 40 in the tri-match.

Taunton, 0 @ Franklin, 9 – Final – Franklin scored three goals inside a six minute span in the first quarter to set the tone and the Panthers never looked back in a win over visiting Taunton. Kaitlyn Carney, Sydney Rogan, and Payten Crandall all scored for Franklin with the latter also assisting on the second goal. Carney went on to add three more goals, two assisted by Emily Carney in the third quarter. Shaw Downing and Haley Wernig also had first half goals while Sophia Cuneo tacked on a goal in the fourth quarter. Megan Sullivan had the shutout in net for the hosts.

King Philip, 2 @ Mansfield, 0 – Final – After a scoreless first half, King Philip scored once in each quarter of the second half to get a win on the road over Mansfield. Sophomore Mara Boldy broke the deadlock with a goal midway through the third quarter and sophomore Kelly Holmes put the game away when she found the back of the cage with three minutes to play. Junior Haley Bright turned away three shots to earn the save while seniors Molly Piller, Christina Gifun, and Lily Brown all had strong games for KP. KP head coach Lisa Cropper praised the “outstanding game” of freshman Abby MacDonald, who made her first varsity start at left midfield.

Oliver Ames, 6 @ Sharon, 0 – Final – Oliver Ames set the tone in its road game at Sharon with three goals in the first quarter, stretching the lead to 5-0 by the halftime break. Erin Cottam opened the scoring off an assist from Georgia Costello less than a minute into the contest and then doubled the Tigers’ advantage off a feed from Tyla Delamere. Costello then made it 3-0 with just under five minutes to go in the first quarter. Julia Maclaine and Ava Costello scored by halftime while Lily Gaskill had two first half assists. Georgia Costello (from Cottam) aded the final goal in the third quarter.










Volleyball
Attleboro, 3 @ Milford, 1 – Final – Attleboro erased a one-set deficit by winning three straight to earn a win on the road over the Scarlet Hawks, 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-18). Summer Pereira had a strong performance at the net with 12 digs, Natalie Brojek dished out 30 assists, and freshman Julia Leonardo finished with 14 digs and 18 kills. Gabby Bolduc and Tigin Bombardier both played well at the night for Attleboro.

Stoughton, 0 @ Canton, 3 – Final – Canton grabbed its second win in as many days, this time sweeping neighboring Stoughton, 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-12). Anna Verille had a standout performance for the Bulldogs, recording 12 digs, eight aces, and a kill. Taylor Reynolds dished out 21 assists while Kelly MacDonald had a perfect night at the service line and played solid defense.

Taunton, 0 @ Franklin, 3 – Final – Franklin senior Cailyn Mackintosh did it all to lead the Panthers to a win at home, a 3-0 sweep (25-11, 25-9, 25-20) over Taunton. Mackintosh had 21 assists, 10 digs, four aces, and three kills in a strong all-around performance while sophomore Taylor Lacerda added 10 kills an an ace in the win.

King Philip, 3 @ Mansfield, 0 – Final – King Philip went on the road and earned a win in hard-fought battle, walking away with a 3-0 sweep (25-17, 25-16, 25-16). The Warriors had a balance attack at the net led by Sami Shore’s 10 kills, Ahunna James’ nine kills, and Emily Sawyer’s six kills. Samantha Asprelli added 11 digs to anchor the defense while Stella Bailey shined at the service line with 17 service points, including seven aces.

Oliver Ames, 3 @ Sharon, 0 – Final – Click here for a photo gallery from this match – Oliver Ames took care of business in the first two sets and then fended off a strong fight from Sharon in the third to complete the 3-0 sweep (25-12, 25-14, 25-23). Hadley Rhodes dished out 20 assists, Maddie Homer recorded 22 digs, and Sarah Hilliard (12 kills) and Courtney Raymond (five kills, five aces) paced the offense. Franklin, 20 @ Attleboro, 43 – Final – Attleboro’s Lee Casstevens won the race but the next seven runners to cross the finish line were all Panthers. Casstevens crossed at 17:15 for first overall followed by Franklin’s Griffin Sieczkiewicz in second and Clancy Golden in third. Stephen Rontiris, Tyler Apicella, Michael Farrow, Connor Kucich, and Will Boozang all finished in order to round out the top eight spots.

King Philip, 46 @ Taunton, 17 – Final – Taunton senior captain Ryan Strawbridge ran a personal best time on his way to a first place finish at home, helping the Tigers win big on senior night. Strawbridge shaved seven seconds off his previous best, setting a new mark at 17:15 in the win. Sophomores Brayden Cali (17:16) and Andrew Cali (17:41) rounded out the top three for the Tigers, freshman Cam Dorr set a new PR by over 30 seconds for fifth overall, and junior Sam Dennis took sixth overall in his varsity debut. Junior captain Jack Pawlowski also set a new PR by over 30 seconds and took seventh overall.

Mansfield, 23 @ Milford, 32 – Final – Mansfield picked up its second win in a row to start the season, this time taking down Milford on the road. Collin Stevens was the Hornets’ top finisher, clocking in at 17:28. Sophomore Talon Johnson had a strong showing in his debut race, crossing the finish line at 18:34 for sixth overall.

King Philip, 27 @ Taunton, 28 – Final – Taunton had the top two runners but King Philip took the next four spots plus a ninth place finish to edge out Taunton by a point. Taunton freshman Emersyn Deponte tied the Tiger record for dual meet wins in a season by taking first in her second straight race, this time in 21:10. Classmate Colby Dunham was just seconds behind for second overall in 21:32. Also scoring for Taunton was junior Kiley Quinlan (22:16), junior Phylicia Dias (23:06), and eighth grader Tori Corrao (23:55).

Mansfield, 22 @ Milford, 33 – Final – Mansfield sophomore Anna Moore won the race and the Hornets got key points following some great pack running in a win over Milford. Moore clocked in at 20:12 for first overall, followed by Milford’s Sydney Kalil (20:27), Mansfield’s Meghan Johnston (20:42), and Milford’s Jillian Araujo (20:47). After splitting the first four spots, Mansfield’s trio of junior Devin Anderson, senior Sophia Allen, and junior Alanna Conley finished in that order within a 10-second span to take the next three spots and help the Hornets get the win.

Stoughton, 194 @ Sharon, 175 – Final – Sharon defended its home turf with a win over Stoughton at the Cape Club of Sharon. Eric Carter earned match medalist honors after shooting a 43 to lead the Eagles. Rosie Leonard, Chance Hanna, and Noah Glassman all shot 45 to round out the scoring for the hosts. Anthony Hern had the low-round for the Black Knights, shooting a 44 on the day.

Conor Hunter was the match medalist, shooting a low-round of 35 to pace the visitors. Will Gefteas added a 36 in the win while both Mike Leonetti and Nate MacDonald shot 40. CJ Steel fired a team-low round of 40 for the Panthers, Brendan Collins and Tyler O’Brien each shot a 41, and Liam Lewandowski came in with a round of 44.

North Attleboro, 168 @ Foxboro, 170 – Final – North Attleboro did just enough on the front nine at Foxboro Country Club to take home a two-stroke victory over division foe Foxboro. Jake Gaskin continued his strong play this season, this time coming in with a one-under par round of 37 to earn match medalist honors. Dillon Harding added a 43 in the win while both Tyson Laviano and Aaron Levesque finished at 44. Foxboro’s Jack Rounds had a team-low round of 40 while Matt Sullivan was just a shot behind at 41. Matt Fossella added a 44 and Jack Watts chipped in with a 45.

Mansfield, 150 @ Oliver Ames, 151 – Final – Mansfield returned home with a hard fought win, taking a one-stroke victory on the road at Pine Oaks against Oliver Ames. Hunter Tang fired an even par round of 34 to earn medalist honors for the Hornets, Cian Goulet added 38 in the win, and both Cody Nieratko and Ryan Doherty shot a 40. For Oliver Ames, senior captain Jake Kaplan had the team-low round of 36, both Jo Jo Gaultier and Daniel Paul shot 38, and Brendan Connelly and David Rodgers each finished at 39.

Taunton, 196 vs. New Bedford, 212 – Final – Taunton earned its first win of the season by knocking off New Bedford, splitting the season series with the Whalers. Loran Corcoran led the Tigers with a team-low round of 47 while Jack Gobin and Shawn Murphy each shot 48 for Taunton.

Sophomore Brayden Cali paced the Tigers with a second-place finish in 17:13 while senior captain Ryan Strawbridge was third overall in 17:22. Sophomore Andrew Cali (fifth, 17:47), freshman Cam Dorr (sixth, 18:29), and junior Jack Pawlowski (seventh, 18:30) also scored for the Tigers. Attleboro’s Lee Casstevens won the race in 16:48 while Ethan Sylvia (17:29) was fourth overall.

Canton, 26 @ Stoughton, 29 – Final – Canton took three out of the top five spots, including first, to earn a close win over Stoughton. Senior Kyle Downing was first overall to lead Canton while sophomore Luke Darling was fourth and Max Kupferman took fifth overall.

Mansfield, 25 @ Franklin, 31 – Final – Mansfield took the top two spots at Dacey Field on its way to a close win over Franklin. Attleboro, 48 @ Taunton, 15 – Final – Taunton had one of its best races since joining the Hockomock League, sweeping the top five spots for the first time since joining in 2013. Freshman Emersyn Deponte took first in 21:23 and was followed by freshman Colby Dunham (21:31), senior Nia Mainer-Smith (22:15), junior Kiley Quinlan (22:24), and junior Phylicia Dias (22:47). Attleboro’s top finisher was Taylor DeCristoforo in 25:37.

Canton, 19 @ Stoughton, 36 – Final – Canton had the first three runners cross the finish line to pick up a win on the road at Stoughton. Senior Kiara Cerruti led the way, coming in first overall followed by classmates Corinne Campbell and Hannah Fidas.

Mansfield, 44 @ Franklin, 19 – Final – It was an an impressive showing from the Panthers in the first race of the season, taking eight of the top nine spots in the race against the Hornets. Franklin senior Charlene Peng won the race in 20:56 while Mansfield sophomore Anna Moore clocked in four seconds later with a PR time of 21:00 for second. Senior Sophia Allen, junior Devin Anderson, senior Megan Johnston, and senior Alana Conley also scored for Mansfield.

Kearns was the match medalist, shooting one-under par on the fifth, sixth, and eighth holes for a round of 38. Riley added a round of 39 after birdies on five and eighth while Gaultier came in with a 39 with an eagle on six. Daniel Paul rounded out OA’s scoring with a 40. Attleboro senior Brendan Raymond had a team-low round of 39.

North Attleboro, 173 @ Franklin, 163 – Final – Franklin sophomore CJ Steel was the lone golfer to come in under 40, earning match medalist honors while pacing the Panthers to a win at home. Steel shot a low-round of 38 while Brendan Collins added a 40, Caroline Woelfel (birdie) added a 42, and both Anthony Lampasona and Tyler O’Brien (43) shot a 43. North Attleboro’s Jack Gaskin and Tyson Laviano each shot 40 while Dillon Harding came in with a round of 43.

Milford, 189 @ Mansfield, 162 – Final – Mansfield senior Cian Goulet fired a team-low round of 37 to lead the Hornets past visiting Milford. Hunter Tang added a round of 40, sophomore Nathan McClean shot a 42, and both Ryan Doherty and Jordan Tavares finished at 43.

Zofia Bangs, Senior – Stoughton

Stoughton was just a win shy of .500 last season, but the Black Knights graduated 20 seniors, so this could be a year of transition. Bangs is one of the players that is back and she is coming off a prolific junior season. She was among the league’s top scorers with 10 goals and four assists and she gives Stoughton a consistent threat at the top that will keep the opposition busy this fall. Her quickness, accurate shot, and willingness to get into the dangerous spot in front of goal make her a constant thorn in the side of opposing defenses, and her combination play with classmate Mia Allie is going to be critical to the Black Knights staying in the running for a playoff spot. There is a lack of varsity experience in the Stoughton roster, but if Bangs can continue firing in the goals then there is potential for a successful season.

Ellie Bohane, Junior – Canton

The Bulldogs will certainly miss the creativity of last year’s co-leading scorer Maria Femia, but there is a lot of attacking talent returning that looks poised to step up and fill that void. Bohane is a three-year varsity player and has shown flashes of her finishing ability and playmaking over the past two years. This fall, she looks ready for a breakout year as one of the team’s primary weapons. A speedy winger with the ability to carry the ball into the dangerous areas, Bohane can put herself into positions to score or create spaces for her teammates to get free in the circle. She also has the vision to find the killer pass and the athleticism to get away from her marker and get into spots for teammates to find her. The Bulldogs were two points away from back-to-back league titles. Canton will be looking to get back on top in the Davenport and Bohane could be the forward to fire the Bulldogs to a league title challenge.










Kaitlyn Carney, Junior – Franklin

Carney has been a dominant force in the Franklin midfield for each of the past two seasons. Last year, Carney took advantage of the extra space on the field and scored a league-high 15 goals (tied with teammate Amanda Lewandowski) and seven assists. Carney dominates with her aggressive play on both ends of the field, willing to throw her body into the way to prevent attacks and then to do what it takes to get into the dangerous places in front of goal. She plays with an attitude that gives her an edge and her energy is hard for opponents to match, but Carney also has great stick skills and the vision to turn a few feet of space into a great scoring chance for herself or a teammate. With Carney growing into her role in the center this fall, Franklin will be looking to make it three straight league titles.

Kate Collins, Senior – Foxboro

For a young team that is missing last season’s leading scorer, the Warriors are going to rely on the experience and playmaking ability that Collins will bring to the center forward position. Collins led the team with eight assists last fall (and added four goals) and she brings a dose of dynamism and creativity near the circle that should create openings for her teammates. A strong, aggressive player who can carry the ball through traffic, Collins also has the speed to pull out to the wings and give defenses a different look in transition. Foxboro likes to defend as a team and the forward line is included. Collins doesn’t just lead the line on the attack but will also be the first line of defense, making it difficult for the opposition to get out on the break. Foxboro has been among the league’s most consistent programs and while there are a lot of players who will be learning on the job this year, the Warriors will look to Collins and the other seniors to keep them in the title mix throughout the season.




Georgia Costello, Senior – Oliver Ames

It was a title-winning return to the Davenport for Oliver Ames last season. The Tigers won the league by two points. It was the third straight season that OA won the division, separated by four years in the Kelley-Rex. If OA is going to repeat as champion, then Costello is going to be a key player. The team’s leading scorer from a year ago, Costello scored 10 times and had four assists. She was a strong finisher in the circle, with a hard, accurate shot, but also a strong passer capable of picking out teammates in dangerous areas. Costello’s quickness and quick thinking make her hard to mark. She finds small spaces in the defense and her stick skills allow her to get by the initial line of defense. Costello also drops deep to get possession from the midfield and can carry the ball forward. OA has title expectations again this year and Costello will be one of several attacking threats that have the Tigers thinking about going back-to-back at the top of the Davenport.

Madison Ellis, Senior – Attleboro

Attleboro’s program has come a long way over the past few years and the Bombardiers have a large, talented senior class that could take the next step and challenge for the division title this season. Ellis, a three-year varsity player, has been one of the team’s top attacking threats for the past two years (third on the team as a sophomore and tops with five goals and four assists as a junior). With her skill in possession, strong physical running, and her ability to find the open spots in an opposing defense, Ellis is hard to mark. The attention she generates then opens lanes for her teammates to run into and open spaces in the circle. Ellis is also a strong runner, who leads the Attleboro press, starting the team’s defensive effort up top and providing a lift in the midfield. The Bombardiers are a darkhorse to win the Kelley-Rex this season and Ellis’ goals and leadership could be the reason that Attleboro makes its best title challenge since entering the Hock.

Emily Gannon, Senior – Taunton

Gannon has proven to be one of the top shot stoppers in the league over the past few seasons. Even with an abbreviated 2020, she was able to showcase that ability to make the difficult save in a pair of ties against Mansfield and holding free-scoring Franklin to just three goals. Gannon uses her agility and quickness to cover a lot of ground and make saves even when it looks like she may have been beaten. She is a solid one-on-one goalie, and her aggressiveness allows her to cut out dangerous situations before it results in a shot on goal. Gannon is also a vocal leader at the back, which will be important for a Tigers team that is relatively inexperienced in the defensive corps. Although Taunton was forced to shorten its season considerably last fall, the Tigers will come into the new season with hopes of putting together a run to the postseason and challenging the Kelley-Rex’s perennial powers.




Molly Piller, Senior – King Philip

King Philip has a lot of experience coming back this fall to make a run at the Kelley-Rex title and the defensive corps should be particularly seasoned this year. Piller will be the last line of defense, working as the sweeper for the Warriors and cleaning up any of the chances that make it through the pressure. She is a strong, physical presence in the heart of the KP defense, but also has a strong reading of the game to see the danger and find the right spots to prevent scoring chances. An accurate passer out of defense, Piller can turn situations around quickly and get the Warriors into the attack. She is also quick and willing to get into the mix in front of goal, doing what it takes to prevent a chance. All of the Warriors’ losses last year were to league champ Franklin, so this year KP will be determined to turn that around and Piller’s leadership in defense will be a key to slowing down the Panthers and regaining the league crown.

2021 Hockomock Field Hockey Players to Watch

Julia Puccio, Junior – North Attleboro

The Davenport division title race was a three-horse race last season, but right behind those top three was North Attleboro, thanks in large part to Puccio’s emergence as a top scorer. As a sophomore, Puccio led the Rocketeers with 12 goals and four assists, accounting for more than half of the team’s 26 goals. Another player that took full advantage of the extra space on the field last year, Puccio used her speed to get into the transition game and she proved to be a strong finisher around the cage, finding ways to score from different angles. She also showed strong stick skills and an extra burst of energy that allowed her to keep going when the field opened up and the game started going back-and-forth. North will be looking to move into that crowded title race and also to make a playoff push this fall and Puccio will be one of the players that the Rocketeers will hope can continue developing into consistent performers against the league’s best.

Lola Varricchione, Sophomore – Mansfield

Mansfield won back-to-back titles in 2014-15 but for the past five seasons the Hornets have watched rivals King Philip and Franklin split the titles. There are seven seniors on this year’s roster that will provide leadership, but it may be Varricchione, a sophomore coming off an impressive rookie campaign, who may provide the attacking spark that puts the Hornets back in the title mix. Last year, Varricchione showed a nose for the ball, finding good spaces to run into or tracking back and pressuring on defense. She has good stick skills and a willingness to crash the circle, while also providing a willing outlet in the midfield. Varricchione’s versatility will be an important part of the team effort that Mansfield is looking to put together this fall to not only return to the tournament but also to the top of the division.

Attleboro

2020 Record: 5-3-6
Coach: Lindsey Antunes
With a large senior class full of experience, the Bombardiers are looking to make the tournament and a run at the Kelley-Rex division title. Attleboro has players back all over the field and could be a serious contender for the division crown.

The offense starts with returning All-Hockomock selection Madison Ellis, who enters her third year with the team. Ellis has been one of the best attackers over the past two years, leading the Bombardiers during last year’s abbreviated season and was third on the team as a sophomore. Classmate Sarah McMahon should see an expanded role this year and will be tasked with helping pace the offensive attack for Attleboro.

Defensively, the Bombardiers have senior Ava Haggerty back in the cage and that is a big boost for the defense. Haggerty has started since her sophomore year and is one of the most experienced goalies in the league. Stand out defender Emma Briggs will anchor the defensive unit in front of Haggerty. Senior captain Emelia Westwater and classmate Jordan Croteau highlight the midfield unit for Attleboro.

“We are looking forward to transitioning back into the 11v11 model and a more traditional season,” said head coach Lindsay Antunes. “We have a great senior class, who has been working diligently in the offseason which we feel will positively impact our program and our overall season.”

Canton

2020 Record: 8-2-2

After missing out on back-to-back league titles but just two points, Canton graduated a host of long-serving players. Despite those graduations, the Bulldogs return several key players who are looking to step into bigger roles and help the team get back on top in what should be another difficult Davenport division title race.

Canton will obviously feel the loss of the league’s co-leading scorer, Maria Femia, but the Bulldogs have a lot of attacking talent that should be able to make up for at least some of those goals. Junior forward Ellie Bohane is a three-year varsity player and her quickness on the wing and finishing ability have her poised for a breakout year. Senior Erin Lane has been a playmaker from midfield and classmate Payton McDonough is a skillful, physical presence in midfield or inside the circle. Senior Sarah Cunningham and junior Audrey Koen will also be factors in what remains a dynamic attack.

The defense will be a young group this season. Senior Carly Fitzgerald is the lone returning starter and will be the backbone of the defensive unit. Junior Carolyn Durand and Jackie Smith are vying to take over the goalie position and there are several younger players that look capable of jumping into the defense and contributing right away. Sophomore Maggie McCready will be one of the newcomers to keep an eye on this year.

“Offensively we have some versatility with several players with scoring potential,” said Canton coach Chrissy O’Connor. “While we have several slots to fill on defense, we have our returning starter Carly Fitzgerald, who will undoubtedly be the backbone of our defense.”

Foxboro

2020 Record: 7-3-2

Foxboro slipped to third place in the Davenport last fall, but was only four points back of first-place Oliver Ames and went into the final week of the regular season with a shot at the title. The Warriors were impacted by graduation and transfers, so there will be some new faces in new spots this season, but there is still confidence that the pieces will come together for another division title challenge.

Even with the transfer of leading scorer Dylan Rappoli, the Warriors still have a lot of firepower up top. Senior Kate Collins will be the focal point at the center forward position, coming off a season in which she led the team with eight assists. Junior Mya Waryas and sophomore Mary Collins will be in the forward line and both have shown the ability to get into good scoring positions in the circle.

Midfield will be led by senior Paige Simoneau, who will bring much-needed experience. Alongside Simoneau will be junior Mia DiNunzio, who adds club experience to her time on varsity and adds a burst of energy. Sophomore Val Beigel is another dynamic player who can be counted on at both ends of the field. The midfield will play a big role in Foxboro’s team defense, but the Warriors can also count on two strong goalies. Senior Lilli Jones returns from varsity last year and Katherine Ferguson will make the jump up from JV and is expected to see some time this year as well.

“We’re looking good,” said Foxboro coach Melissa Bordieri. “We’ve got some new players and some returning players, so I’m feeling good about it. Trying to put players in the right position to get the maximum out of the team. I think, as a unit, we’ll be a competitor in our division for sure.”

Franklin

2020 Record: 11-0-2 (Kelley-Rex division champions)
Coach: Michelle Hess
Franklin has won back-to-back league titles and enters the season on a run of 30 league games unbeaten (26-0-4) going back to 2018. After graduating 11 seniors from the Hock Cup champions, the Panthers will be inexperienced at several spots this season, but there is confidence in the new players that they can step in and keep Franklin’s impressive run going this fall.

It is in attack that the Panthers will have a lot of new faces, but Franklin coach Michelle Hess sees a lot of skill from the new group, and a willingness to get into dangerous positions. Junior midfielder Kaitlyn Carney is back after tying for the league lead with 22 points last year (15 goals and seven assists). Her aggressive personality will be a major factor in getting the Panthers into the attack. Defensively, Franklin is quick and experienced. Seniors Kate O’Rourke and Kendall Jones are both returning to provide leadership at the back. Senior Jill Fenerty is carrying an injury into the season, but the Panthers will hope she returns quickly.

“We are looking forward to defending our 2-year title and working hard towards a three-peat as champions,” said Hess. “Although we are inexperienced and have some positions to fill from last year, I feel we have players that will step up nicely into their new roles and do a great job.”

King Philip

2020 Record: 8-3-3
Coach: Lisa Cropper
King Philip lost three games last season and all three were to league champ Franklin, by a combined four goals, including a one-goal loss in the Hock Cup final. The Warriors graduated their three starting forwards from last year, but return a roster that is as experienced (15 seniors) as any in the league and KP coach Lisa Cropper will be hoping that they have enough experience to end her former team’s two-year run at the top of the Kelley-Rex.

While the three all-stars are no longer leading the line for the Warriors, there is still plenty of firepower up top. Seniors Sydney O’Shea and Jen Daniels will be expected to take on bigger responsibilities and get into good goal-scoring positions. Sophomore Mara Boldy and freshman Makenzie McDevitt are a pair of newcomers to watch and could provide an instant burst of energy in the KP attack. Sophomore Kelly Holmes will run things from the center of midfield and senior Christina Gifun provides support for both the attack and defense.

The strength of the team should be an experienced back line. Seniors Morgan Cunningham, Lily Brown, and Haley Izydorczak are strong on-ball defenders and, if anyone gets through the first line of pressure, senior Molly Piller is always there at sweeper to clear the ball. Junior Haley Bright will be stepping in to be the new starting goalie.

“We should have some good depth and play about 14 kids rotating thru the lineup,” said Cropper. “Losing all three starting all-star forwards and goalie to graduation, we have some big shoes to fill at both ends of the field, but we should be solid in the midfield and on defense with a senior-heavy team.”

Mansfield

2020 Record: 2-7-3
Coach: Theresa Nyhan
Mansfield will be leaning on its senior leadership this season but it will need to be a complete group effort as the Hornets are looking for key contributions from both its juniors and sophomores on the roster. There are seven seniors on the roster with captains Celia Puleo (striker) and Caitlin Dumouchel (defense) leading the way on each end of the field.

Puleo spearheads a veteran offensive unit as she is joined by classmates Sadie Mello and Maddie Brown, giving the Hornets a trio of experienced players in its attack. Dumouchel is the anchor of the defense with senior Bethany Sears and junior Hallie Popat currently in the mix. Head coach Theresa Nyhan expects to see some new faces emerge both offensively and defensively as the season progresses throughout.

Senior Grace Bertolino is just one of six players back from last year’s team and is going to control the midfield for the Hornets, getting up the field to get involved with the attack while also transitioning back to help solidify the defense. Junior Danni Cuzzi and sophomore Lola Varricchione look to fill out the midfield for the Hornets. Junior Lily Danehy made the switch from the field to the cage last season and returns as the starter this year.

“The Hornets are excited to get back to the traditional field hockey format,” Nyhan said. “Team play, fluidity and communication will be tenets of Hornet success!”

Milford

2020 Record: 0-9-2
Coach: Tim Dowd
The Hawks will be putting a major emphasis on defense this season, hoping to establish a solidified front and work their way up the field against the always tough Hockomock League competition.

Senior captain Maddie Hunt returns in the cage for the second straight season, and she has played against a lot of tough competition already. Her experience will be key as the Hawks look to improve each game. Seniors Emma Tredeau and Stephanie Wong are also captains for the team and they’ll be counted on their leadership both on and off the field.

Head coach Tim Dowd is not only counting on his captains to lead the way but the entire senior class. Carmela Bon Tempo, Ashley Maldonado, Gill Meaney, and McKenna Smith will all play key roles for the Hawks this season. Tredeau and Smith will be the focus of the offense alongside Tessa Scrimgeour and Stella Portes as Milford looks to build cohesion on the offensive end of the field. Newcomers Sam Fazo and Lindsay Casman will be in the mix as well.

The midfield could be the strength of the team with dynamic players Jordan Douglas and Ashlynn Ringo — both juniors — ready to take a big step forward this year after getting experience at the varsity level last year. Bon Tempo will be joined by Sophia Soares and Hailey Beagle to help strengthen the defense in from of Hunt.

“We’re looking forward to a great season and getting back to the normal rules of play,” Dowd said. “As a team, we’re going to be focused on defense first and try to give our goalkeeper as much help as we can. We’re also going to try to work hard as a team and stay positive.”

North Attleboro

2020 Record: 3-10-0
Coach: Karen Folan
Expectations are high for the Rocketeers this season with a strong mix of experienced seniors and juniors back in the fold. With key players back at all positions, North Attleboro is looking to get back into the mix for the Davenport title.

North Attleboro will try to be on the front foot this year, using speed and skill to apply pressure to opposing defenses. Senior captain Zoe McKeon is back for her second year up front and will be a target for the Rocketeers’ talented midfield unit. Senior captain Kelsey Briere will provide key leadership both on and off the field and will be joined in the midfield by junior Julia Puccio, the team’s leading scorer last season and All-Hockomock selection. Puccio is among the top players in the league and will be an important link in the transition game for North.

The midfield also will feature junior Caroline Folan, another two-year member of the varsity program. Her speed will help North get the ball up the field as the Rocketeers push from defense into offense, setting up teammates in the circle. Junior Ava Mckeon will add a strong defensive presence to the midfield while still firing drives on net from the top of the circle.

“We have high expectations for ourselves this season,” said head coach Karen Folan. “With a core line up of experienced players that mesh well, there is a drive to generate lots of offensive pressure. We will look to keep the energy on the field high by utilizing the depth on our roster.”

Oliver Ames

2020 Record: 9-1-2 (Davenport division champions)
Coach: Sharon Lawrence
Oliver Ames edged Canton and Foxboro to win the Davenport title in 2020. In each of the last three seasons that the Tigers have played in the division, they have come out on top. OA will have a challenge to make it four straight titles, as the Tigers graduated 11 seniors (eight of which were two-year starters), but there is a lot of talent returning to keep the expectations high going into the new year.

With nine returning seniors, eight juniors, and two sophomores that saw significant minutes last season, OA has reloaded to take on the league’s best. The key for the Tigers will be rebuilding the defense, after graduating an entire back line. Junior Maddie Proia will be the anchor on that end of the field. Senior Ava Costello will be the driving force in the midfield, which is loaded with experienced seniors, and she is a key to the Tigers getting forward into the attack.

Senior Georgia Costello is the team’s top returning scorer and the combination between the twin sisters will give OA plenty of chances in transition. The Tigers will also return junior Julia Maclaine and sophomore Erin Cottam, who were both vital to OA’s title run last year. The speedy wingers give the Tigers a consistent outlet and both showed a nose for the goal. Depth will also be a strength, as OA coach Sharon Lawrence believes her bench can step in to produce and give fresh legs.

“We are a brand new team this year with lots of re-positioning,” Lawrence said, “but we are improving every day and building on our passing game. There is magic in the air with our season back on track, and I know good things and lots of goals are in our future this fall.”

Sharon

2020 Record: 0-11-0
Coach: Paulina Kosmadakis
Sharon has four captains this season and they will be leading the way as the Eagles look to improve each and every game, getting better as the season progresses.

Seniors Abby Gott, Rachel Glass, Ashley Young, and Shiraz Becker are all captains for the Eagles this team with Young back in the fold after missing last season due to injury. Young and Glass will help in all areas of the field while Becker and Gott will make up a strong forward line for the Eagles. Head coach Paulina Kosmadakis has been impressed with the captains’ heart, determination, and “true grit” so far.

Junior Natalie Kessler will start in the cage for the Eagles, who are looking to improve on the defensive end as they tackle an incredibly tough schedule against Hockomock foes. Sophomore Jane Hendrixson joins the varsity squad this year and will be an important piece of the Eagles’ defense.

“The girls have been working hard to try and be more of an offensive team,” Kosmadakis said “Sharon’s defense has always been strong but as an overall team, we are looking forward to playing both sides of the field this year.”

Stoughton

2020 Record: 5-7-0
Coach: Dan Mark
Varsity experience will be in short supply for Stoughton this season. The Black Knights graduated 20 players from last year’s team and return only four starters. This will be a season of transition, as a host of new faces get acclimated to playing against Hockomock competition, but with hope that the talent could carry the team to a playoff spot.

Senior Zofia Bangs scored 10 goals last season and she is back to give the Black Knights a consistent goal-scoring threat. Senior Mia Allie is also back at forward and will be looking to step into a bigger role and take advantage of more chances this season. Seniors Kate Bulger and Sydney Menz will bring athleticism to the midfield and senior Melody Casna will be stepping into goal this season. Although the Black Knights will have 11 seniors on this year’s roster, the vast majority will be getting their first varsity appearances.

“We lack experience at many key positions,” said Stoughton coach Dan Mark, “but the [returning] players will supply stability and experience for less experienced players.”

Taunton

2020 Record: 0-2-8
Coach: Liz Hathaway
Taunton are another team that will be turning to youth this fall. The Tigers graduated eight seniors from a team that only saw the field four times in a very abbreviated season. There will still be plenty of speed and athleticism on display for Taunton, which has consistently proven over the past few seasons to be a tough team to beat even for the top teams in the league.

Senior forward Ashley Amaro scored three times in four games last year and will lead the line for the Tigers, using her ability to carry the ball and her speed to stretch the opposition. Junior Caelen O’Leary is a newcomer to the attack, who will offer Amaro a good partner up top. Senior Kylie Thorpe returns in the midfield and has been an important player supporting both the defense and the attack. Senior Emily Gannon is back in goal and will once again be one of the league’s top shot stoppers. Junior Thalia Nogueira is going to be a key player in the Taunton defense, with her aggression and leadership needed in a young group.

“We do have some returning speed and ball handlers that we will be really counting on,” said Taunton coach Liz Hathaway. “Our returning players do demonstrate a good field awareness that translates well both offensively and defensively.”

Tied 1-1 after the first quarter, the Bulldogs built a 5-3 lead by halftime and pushed it to 9-6 after three quarters of action. For OA, sophomore Ben Reardon paced the offense with four goals while junior Wyatt Fritchman added a pair of goals and an assist. Sophomore Noah Isleib made 19 saves in the cage while Brendan Cross, Michael Branagan, Drew Nickla, and Landon Grothe played well defensively for the Tigers.

Franklin, 15 @ Billerica, 7 – Final – Franklin used a stellar defensive performance to pass one of its toughest tests of the season, allowing just two goals in the second half to secure a win on the road over Billerica. The Panthers pumped in five goals in the opening quarter and staked a 9-5 advantage at halftime. Jack Maguire had a strong game in net while Zach Harvey, Kyle Palmieri, and Ben Harvey all played well on close defense. Sophomore Luke Davis led the offense with eight points, scoring five goals to go along with three assists. Senior Matt Lazzaro added four goals and three assists while sophomore Jayden Consigli registered six assists in the win.

Girls Lacrosse
Oliver Ames, 14 @ Canton, 13 – Final (OT) – Oliver Ames senior Emma Pereira won the draw to start overtime and set up Catie Wilson for the game-winning goal nine seconds into overtime as the Tigers grabbed an overtime win on the road. Pereira and Hailey Bourne paced the offense for the Tigers while Georgia Costello was also a big factor in draw controls for OA. Taylor McAndrew had a big day defensively with five pass interceptions. Jess Widdop was one of the stars of the game for the Tigers, shining in net by making key saves throughout the contest.

Milford, 9 @ Taunton, 15 – Final – Taunton senior Alana Tavares had a hand in 11 of the Tigers’ goals and Tasia Lajoie was involved in six to help the hosts split the season series against visiting Milford. Tavares scored a team-high eight goals and added three assists while Lajoie found the back of the net five times with one helper. Freshmen Cali Melo and Jillian Emond each scored once in the win, senior Rosemary McGrath added an assist and junior Emily Gannon turned away 10 shots.

Boys Volleyball
Taunton, 3 vs. Durfee, 0 – Final – Taunton defended home court with a 3-0 sweep (25-16, 25-11, 25-16) to clinch the South Alliance League championship, finishing the regular season at 16-1. Senior Tyler Stewart registered 10 kills and seven blocks, Mattia Casagrande added nine kills and a pair of aces, Faisal Mass chipped in with four kills, and Jakob Thorpe had three kills, two aces, and a block to round out a well-balanced attack. Daniel Medina (two blocks) had 15 assists in the win while Travis Nunes anchored the defensive side of the ball.

The Panthers scored 10 times in the first quarter, jumping out to a 10-1 lead, and never looked back, remaining unbeaten and moving a step closer to another league title. Kaitlyn Carney led the way for the league leaders, scoring four goals. Katie Jones (two assists) and Stella Regan (three assists) both recorded hat tricks and Kenzie Baker tallied twice. Katie Peterson, Kate O’Rourke, Ali Socci, Katherine Ryan, Lindsay Atkinson, Anna Grasso, Payten Crandall, and Maura Cogavin each scored once for the Panthers. Alana Tavares scored twice and Anastasia Lajoie scored once for Taunton and Emily Gannon was busy in goal, making double-digit saves.

Sharon, 6 @ Oliver Ames, 15 – Final – OA got back to .500 in league play with a dominant win over visiting Sharon. Emma Pereira scored four goals to spark the OA offense. Reese Pereira and Georgia Costello helped the Tigers control the draw and win extra possessions for the Tigers. Emma O’Donnell was strong in the cage for OA, allowing only one goal in the second half.

Milford, 6 @ King Philip, 17 – Final – KP had four players record five points and extended its win streak to three games. Julia Marsden and Haley Izydorczak each scored five goals for the Warriors, while Morgan Cunningham had three goals and two assists and Lilly Brown had two goals and three assists.
