Mansfield junior Anna Buckley has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for March 28 through April 3. Buckley is the 17th player chosen as Player of the Week for the 2020-21 school year and fourth in the fall II season.
Buckley has had a great start to the dual meet season, earning five first-place finishes and a second place through the opening two meets of the fall II season. She has been a standout in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, and long jump for the Hornets as they faced Milford last week and a season-opening tri-meet with Franklin and Taunton.
Against Milford at Alumni Field, Buckley took first place in the hurdles and the high jump and was second in the long jump. In the hurdles, Buckley finished in a time of 16.7, almost a second faster than the second-place finisher. She cleared 4’10 in the high jump, more than six inches higher than second place, and she jumped 16’9 in the long jump, two inches shorter than Milford’s Kerry O’Connor.
Earlier this season, Buckley finished first in the 100m hurdles against Franklin and Taunton, had a three-way tie for first in the high jump with a leap of 5’, and jumped 16’1 in the long jump. In the Hockomock’s grade level meet that opened the fall II season, Buckley took ninth in the 100m with a personal-best 13.2 and was third in the high jump at 4’10.
The Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, is selected by the HockomockSports.com staff. Nominations can be submitted throughout the week up until Saturday night at midnight. There may be a poll posted on every Sunday with the nominations. The results of the poll influence the selection but do not strictly dictate the decision.
