King Philip senior Ahunna James has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Nov. 6 through Nov. 12. James is the 10th player chosen as Player of the Week for the 2022-23 school year.
James put together a stellar week to help King Philip sweep Nashoba and Westwood and reach the Div. 2 Final Four for the second straight season. James had 25 kills between the two matches, helping the Warriors dominant both sides of the net and make it seven straight wins without dropping a set. KP will now face No. 6 Melrose this week in the state semifinal.
“Ahunna continues to be a big part of the teams success,” said King Philip head coach Kristen Geuss. “She is a six-position player and makes an impact on both offense and defense.”
After a sweep of Notre Dame Academy in the Round of 32, James had one of the best overall matches of her career in the win over Nashoba. She finished with 15 kills, six digs, and four blocks, as the Warriors held of Nashoba in the opening set 28-26 before more comfortably winning the final two games. Her impressive play at the net continued against the Wolverines. James had 10 kills in the win, most of them smashed through the Westwood defense. She also added three digs to help the KP defensive effort in a 25-19, 25-17, 25-17 victory.
