Milford was able to keep pace with Mansfield in the first quarter and took a one-point lead into the second quarter, but the Hornet defense clamped down. Mansfield outscored Milford 16-4 in the second quarter and never looked back.

Mansfield sophomore Brendan Hill and junior Rocky DeAndrade both had 17 points in the win, while senior David Mercier led Milford with 21 points.

“We’re getting everyone’s best,” Mansfield head coach Mike Vaughan said. “It was a great atmosphere. I said to my guys when they called their first timeout at 13-13, ‘they just threw their biggest punch, and we’re still tied.’”

The second half was similar to the second, as Mansfield increased their halftime lead of 11, to 16 after 3, to the final deficit of 24.

Mansfield also received contributions from Greg Romanko (13 points), Ryan Boulter (12 points), Kevin Conner (9 points) and Michael Boen (8 points).

Michael Tracy and Michael Titlebaum scored 8 and 7 respectively for Milford.

Both teams will now return to play on Friday in key divisional match ups. Milford will host Oliver Ames while Mansfield will host Taunton. Both teams are the top two teams in their respective divisions.
